Piper Maclane wants a pet so badly, but she’s allergic to everything. So she creates her own . . . out of slime!
Piper wishes she could have a pet to care for and snuggle with and take to school for show-and-tell. All of the other kids have one. But she’s allergic to every animal imaginable! So instead, she makes her own pet out of slime, with big eyes, a little mouth, and two arms just long enough for hugs. It would be the perfect pet for Piper, if it were real. When a strange turn of events brings her slime to life, Piper learns how fun, challenging, and messy it can be to care for a pet . . . especially one made out of slime!

My Pet Slime is the first in a new series of early chapter books. It was a cute story, but as it is introducing a new series and characters, it had parts that might be a bit boring to young readers. Piper has always wanted a pet but is allergic to everything. The kids at Table B are talking about Show and Tell and that they should all talk about their pets. Piper doesn't have a pet and is a bit down. When she goes home, she makes slime to play with and models it into a pet to play with. When she accidentally opens some space dust she received fro her grandmother, an employee of Astroblast Explorers, it comes to life but can only be seen by children. She names him Cosmo and brings him to school. When she checks on him after lunch, he is missing. Piper accuses her classmate, Claire of taking Cosmo and they work together to try and find him.
This seems like it will be a good series for young readers. Piper is in grade three with normal kid problems. She can be a bit naughty and not listen and her parents consequence her which is nice to see. She has issues with some of her classmates, but is learning to deal with them. I think young readers will enjoy reading about Piper, Cosmo and her friends. This book ends on a cliffhanger which will entice readers to read the next one to see what happens. The back of the book also include a recipe for slime, so you can make some at home to play with and create your own Cosmo, without the space dust. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

I'm sure many readers can relate to Piper Maclane's wishes to have a pet of her own. Since she is allergic to just about every animal imaginable, she can't have one and has nothing to share with her classmates. All that changes when she somehow--with the help of a little space dust--brings a slime pet to life. Although it's wonderful to be able to share her life with her new pet, some problems ensue when she brings her pet to school, including some drama with a classmate. This one isn't my cup of tea, but some young readers will enjoy it and look forward to more books featuring Piper and her slime.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Slime is a huge thing for kids today. Our neighbor kids make their own so it was great to see the recipe at the back of the book for making slime. A great early chapter book/reader, full of a bit of science space dust, friendships, and zany fun. Imagine creating your own pet from slime and by adding a bit of space dust to the mix, your little creation comes alive. Just that alone would be enough for me to read this new series, full of exciting and lively characters, many relatable moments and adventure to keep the pages turning.
This book is full of cute illustrations in full color and compliment the story. The print is large and the sentences not too long. This is a great book for those little readers who are just beginning to read longer stories.
Promising to get creative imaginations going, this new series will surely please those in grades two and three, to even grade four. It can be read by both boys and girls.

My Pet Slime by Courtney Sheinmel is a fun, light book and the illustrations were beautiful. I read this with my daughters and they LOVED it and can't wait for book 2. Great characterizations and perfect writing for ages 8/9 and under. This book was so much fun and the slime recipe included made this book more of an experience than just a read. We plan to try the recipe soon. This book was engaging, fun, and light. We loved it.

Allergies, parents, and landlords can be hard on aspiring pet owners. Piper is allergic to most critters, so she makes her own pet out of slime. This sounds dull. It isn't!
