Based on the hit Netflix show from the head writer of The Last Airbender , this humorous, in-world notebook has everything a fan needs to know about the magical world of The Dragon Prince ! Things •Stats on the ELVES, DRAGONS, and other creatures they've met on their journey •All the cool places they've been in KATOLIS and XADIA•Funny things that happened! •RUNES, SPELLS, and other stuff Callum needs to know about PRIMAL MAGIC (and DARK MAGIC, too) And MUCH, MUCH MORE, including whatever Ezran, Rayla, Claudia, and Soren add when they steal this notebook from Callum! Features original concept art not found anywhere else -- a must-have for any fan of the show!

The guide to go along with Dragon Prince, featuring fun facts, information about the show, and gorgeous art.
I haven’t seen Dragon Prince yet (but was planning on watching) so a lot of spoilers for me, but I don’t mind. If anything, thanks to this book, I want to watch the show more, so I guess very soon when I have time/am doing some fitness/exercise (I love watching shows while I do sports) I will go to Netflix to watch this show, thankfully it is on the Dutch Netflix.
This is a delightful and gorgeously illustrated guide to the show. We learn about various things that happened, about the travel that these characters went on and the people and countries they came across, we read about characters (and OMG there is a sweet LGBT couple there), about elves and what kinds there are and how people think about them, about the countries and their rulers, the history of the land, magic, and more. It was a delight and the world seems amazing and so much fun. I just wanted to dive into the book, into the world.
I can also honestly say as someone who never watched the show that this isn’t a problem at all. I never felt like I should have watched the show first or know more about the characters. The writer has a way to pull you in, and the art also helps.
The art is absolutely gorgeous and I was just a big big fan of it. The sketches, the finished works. WOW. And I loved that they made it seems like the MC drew it all.
Kindle edition-Worth it, if you love books of this nature! Even a casual fan would enjoy this.
This is a cute books that's (mostly) intended for a younger audience, however, it's very cute and has some incredible illustrations from creatures, to places, to people.
I recommend this book of you like reading about the character's lives and the world they live in.
This was a great purchase on the Kindle! 5 stars for the amazing art, and the cute notes on the cast from the cast. A good read, almost exactly as the summary described. ☺
As with the graphic novel, also learned about this book from a client ordering everything The Dragon Prince related, and this was also a really fun experience!!! I liked this one just a little bit less, because it lacked a storyline, but I know I would have loved and read this book a million times as a kid!!! It's a really interesting overview of the world and all of these characters, I was reminded of a few things I had forgotten over the years... and then as always I really love the relationships between the family here, and especially between the two brothers, and between Callum and his stepdad. This was just a really fun encyclopedia for the show, and great for any kid or fan of this show!!!
I haven't seen the Dragon Prince yet so this was kind of spoiler-y, but I read this to see if I was interested in the series and now I know that I'm definitely going to watch it!
This was a super cute refresher of the series while we (im)patiently await the next season. It was basically just information on the characters, places, creatures and magic types in the series as written in Callum's spellbook. The only thing that got me was that after watching the show, it didn't seem like it was Callum that was writing it. The voice of the writing just sounded like a much younger person writing it than Callum. There were a few extra informational bits and a little bit more about the more side characters that I must have missed while watching the show. I think I will rewatch the show soon and now I will have a little bit more background info!
If you love the Dragon Prince and want to see a cute children’s book fill with info on the charactera as if Callum was annotating this , you’ll enjoy this. It covers Season 1-3
1/5/25 Finished 2024 with a book featuring a character voiced by Jack De Sena (Sokka), started 2025 with a book featuring a character voiced by Jack De Sena (Callum). (Also technically Dante Basco but #spoilers)
Anyway.
*deep breath* *screams*
Having all of the Context™ of seasons 1-7 made reading this quite the emotional roller coaster, honestly.
There's no plot to this, aside from vaguely covering what happens in seasons 1-3, not including what happens at the end of season 3. It's still fun to learn little bits about characters that we don't learn in the show (Pyrrah's name [which is not said in canon until season 6, I believe], Gren not carrying a weapon, Opeli liking the beach, Corvus liking scavenger hunts... etc.)
The art for the different types of elves in here is just. Amazing. It's interesting to see where some of the concepts started vs seeing some of the actual elves in Arc 2.
Also, for the longest time I was so confused about Callum and the Key of Aaravos and all of the notes/drawings he kept making in his spellbook in the show and this finally cleared that up for me, haha.
Anyway, go watch The Dragon Prince so we can get Arc 3.
If you love The Dragon Prince, I definitely recommend giving this a read. It's fun!
✧˚.⋆ this tv show will always be my favorite forever <3 finishing this series put a giant hole in my heart that can only be filled by rewatching the show and reading any adjacent novels (YES GRAPHIC NOVELS COUNT. WE LISTEN AND WE DONT JUDGE). my favorite thing about this show will always be the characters. the world of xadia is soooo magical but like claudia, soren, terry, ezran, bait, zym, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY CALLUM AND RAYLA will always be my favorite thing this show offers 🤍🤍
✧˚.⋆ this was so cute because i liked seeing what callum thought about everything in xadia. i think the only thing i would’ve wanted more is some rayllum content. this journal of sorts leads up to about halfway through season 3 SO RAYLLUM WAS A THING, and i get it it’s for kids BUT SO IS THE SHOW SO….
anyways, if you haven’t seen this show, please do 🙏🙏 it’s on netflix and it completely changed my brain chemistry forever 💌 (also if you have seen the show, please comment below!)
Callum's Spellbook is basically a summary of The Dragon Prince series.
Although it was presented as a journal in the beginning, it feels like it was written all at once. It has a glossary-like format (places, people, etc.). Written from Callum's perspective with occasional contributions from other characters, it lacks the sense of Callum's growth throughout the series.
I did enjoy the inclusion of Callum's sketches, but the snippets from the show further disrupted the illusion of it being an authentic journal.
Surprising delights: - The strawberry jam tart recipe, which I definitely want to try. - The sign language alphabet.
This was...fine, but not what I hoped for. I was expecting something more creative—maybe an actual scratch-and-spell book with magical insights or fun interactive elements. Instead, it’s mostly a summary of the first season with basic descriptions of characters and places.
While it’s a decent companion for new fans of The Dragon Prince, it didn’t really add anything exciting or fresh for me as someone already familiar with the show. A bit underwhelming, but it has its moments.
It's hard to rate books like these because I wish the book had more info, but it's both aimed at a young audience and it's written from Callum's POV. So, everything is filtered through what Callum knows. Still, it gives a decent recap of much of the knowledge learned throughout the show, and it also gives a little bit of new knowledge.
What seems odd to me is that this book covers some of what happens in season 3 but acts like they haven't accomplished their goal yet (plus skipped over a few important details). I get you want to give people a reason to check out the show, if this book is their first exposure to it, but since each season drops all at once and this talks about events from season 3... It was a little bit weird of a decision to make.
What's even weirder is omitting one of the spells Callum learns. I mean, this book talks about the desert, talks about Nyx, but then doesn't mention the spell Callum learns during the episode. It's a spoiler, yes, but there's bigger spoilers this book mentions!
Then we come to when the book talks about Rayla's home. This is Callum recounting his journey through an info perspective, but it's odd there's zero mention of the consequences for Rayla being the only survivor. That was also kind of odd.
I really wish this book had covered more of Viren and Aaravos--but, again, this is all from Callum's POV (other than a few notes written by friends).
However, for what this book is, it actually covers quite a bit of info and is a great refresher to the world/characters. Also, I love that this book keeps Callum's art style from the credits of the show. It's great to have that consistency, even with a different medium. It also truly sounds like Callum was the one who wrote this book, and that he wrote much of it as he was journeying (and some after meeting up again with various friends).
Overall, I'm glad I decided to pick this book up--not only for the bits of new info we get, but also because it's a great in-world item. It can be difficult to bring an in-world book into our world, as they often end up simpler than they should be, but this book does great at it. It's enjoyable, I love the art, and it's nice to have a quick guide to the world/characters.
The only things that truly bother me are the three omitted details, but the first one makes sense in a weird way. The other two really should have been included.
There were a lot of really cute pieces of character backstory, as well as lore in this book, however, I wouldn't say it's a must-read. I loved hearing about Callum's life in the castle; traditions he and his family had growing up, his relationship with Harrow, everything similar to that.
The rest of the book, however, just felt like a recap of the series and characters we already know well, which made it feel a bit pointless at times, cute and well-illustrated as it was.
The only two key takeaways that I would say are worth it to know were a recipe for the famous jelly tarts (which I can't wait to try out), and the statement that, whenever the key of Aaravos is rolled on the ground, it always leaves a trail of markings pointing in the same direction, which become more pronounced once it's in Xadia. I'm sure some fans picked this up during the show, but as someone who missed this detail, I was shocked to find that out (and the implications it has for future plot lines).
Overall, a cute, fun read that doesn't offer much new in regards to the series.
I LOVE the show, and this book was so good at fleshing out the world and explaining some things that would have been too complicated to explain onscreen (e.g. the different types of elves, all of the kingdoms etc.) I would recommend watching the show before reading this, as it contains some minor spoilers, but if you would prefer to learn about the world of The Dragon Prince before watching I completely understand. From the drawings of baby Rayla to explaining the colourful emotions of Bait (the best pet anyone could ever ask for,) this book is an incredible way to expand the world or introduce it to new fans!
I instantly fell in love with the show and I just had to get my hands on this book. While it is a quick read the amount of information it provides is amazing. I would have to say that if you haven't watched the series this book might be confusing. (And really if you haven't already watched The Dragon Prince then what are you doing with your life!!!!) The artwork is the same style as in the show so it really does feel like I stole it right out of the show! This is a must read for any fan of The Dragon Prince! (Oh, and the jelly tart recipe, it's delicious!)
I LOVE THE DRAGON PRINCE!! Callum is probably my favorite character and I love that I got to read from his spell book!! It’s so interesting to get into his head. There were details throughout that kinda made me emotional such as him scratching out “the king” and writing “dad” over it. It was a good overview of the world. You get to learn more about the different types of elves and Xadia. One of my favorite features is the map of the human realm and Xadia. It was interesting seeing the layout of the 5 kingdoms. There is also a recipe for jelly tarts!! I’ve got to make some!!
This is a really fun appendage to The Dragon Prince lore. It expands on some of the character histories as well as the mythos of Xadia and the five kingdoms, mostly written in Callum's voice. There are a few additions for the rest of the cast and it's all in a scrapbook format, so you don't feel like you're reading a text book of exposition. There are drawings by Callum(similar to those in the end credits of the show) as well as "photos." I'm not entirely sure how there are photos as there don't seem to be cameras in their world, but it makes for a beautiful book.
While this felt at times like a retelling of what happens in the first three seasons (mostly season one) of the show, there were some little insights that I really liked. And, there was information revealed in this volume that I definitely didn’t know (or at least didn’t quite pick up on)from just watching the show. My favourite section by far has to be the sections on the two different magic systems in the series. I hope they do a part two covering seasons four to six.
It was good. It was really cute with beautiful illustrations. It just gave the basic information of the Dragon Prince series and the world and characters that we know. It also gave a bit more information on things we didn't know about like the other types of elves, dragons, arcanum and more. I enjoyed it.
What can I say? I am a fan of TDP show and I am being starved of content until season 4 (hopefully) comes out. So this was a perfect appetiser for me, with lovely drawings and pictures and a lot more insight into the TDP world. I am tempted to knock a star off due to there being no Rayllum content, but I'll leave it for now. I'm still waiting on season 4 Netflix, I'm still waiting.
100% worth reading if you are a fan of The Dragon Prince. The book describes in greater detail a lot of things that show mentions but does not really expand on (such as the other primal sources, Startouch elves, etc.). It really helps fill the universe out a bit more and gives some useful background information.
When I was reading the description in the online store I bought it from I got a good idea what the book will contain - pretty much a summary of the progress in the show with some extra doodles and small "secrets" about characters and places.
And that's exactly what I got. I'm EXTREMELY happy with the balance of text and image amount inside as now I can use it as artbook and inspiration as well.
It’s a kid’s book. And I am not a kid. However, the beautiful art, concise presentation of the lore, glossy production, and tight editing make it well worth the price if you’re a fan of the show like I am! Season 4, please.
Loved this! Captured the humor and heart of the show while also giving some interesting background not covered in the series yet. Also a great summary of some of the more complicated concepts!
only a star off, I did make the tarts. So yummy but so tiny and didn't stay folded very well. Look up fan recipe interpretations! There is a good one out there, I remember seeing it just haven't tried it yet.
