Rate this book
On vacation from England to West Virginia, USA, Marianne Delaney's husband is killed in a car crash leaving her stranded and alone in the countryside of Mingo County. After stumbling into an Iroquois cave, she's catapulted back in time to 1897. When she discovers she can't return to her own time without paying a terrible price, Marianne's real nightmares begin. Struggling to adapt among strangers alien to her culture and beliefs, her skills as a midwife see her accused of witchcraft, and her growing attraction to Elias Wood, the eldest son of the family who offer her refuge, earns her the animosity and obsession of Singular Devereux, a man so consumed with hatred for Elias, he'll stop at nothing to make Marianne his own. All Things Eternal weaves supernatural forces and murderous jealousies into an adventure of time travel, tragedy and karmic love.

Inter-dimensional time travel romance.

I loved the idea of time traveling. Lately, I have read more books about traveling into the future so it was about "time" to read something else. The main part of the story takes place in 1897. I have very little knowledge about that time in the past. I didn't do any research either as I didn't think it was necessary. I just savored the story. I enjoyed every word, every scene, every twist. The novel is written in first POV and I felt Marianne, the main character, as being extremely real. There is nothing in the plot I would have changed. The description of the characters and places is well done. Some could think that there should be more questions in Marianne’s head because traveling from 2016 to 1897 is not a small deal. My thought is the author gave exactly as much as it was needed. It was obvious that some romance is going to take place between Marianne and Elias but there were some twists that made me think it was not going to have a happy ending. I couldn't predict somethings, such as Singular's role, and that made the reading experience more delightful. The most that I liked was the thing related to the scar behind Elias' ear. I won't reveal more not to spoil the fun of discovering it on your own.

Quotes from this book:

“It wouldn’t matter where she went, to which country, or to whom, she may as well have died in that car with her husband. She was alone, broke, with no prospects and unprotected in a lawless world where rape and murder went unpunished and nobody cared if you lived or died.”

“They sat in silence for a while as the lamps burned low on fuel. Solomon offered to refill them but Marianne said, ‘Let them burn down. I’d like to look at the stars awhile. It’s peaceful here. So silent. In the city, you’re never far from perpetual noise. You don’t even notice it until you move away.’ I ain’t been to no big city,’ Sol said. ‘You’re not missing anything. I never thought I’d say it, but I’d pick the serenity of the countryside over the madness of a city. There’s never any mental peace. Too many people and too much energy.’”

“He’d felt her soul reach out to his, a connection that felt older than their bodies; older than time. He couldn’t truly fathom it. It just was.”

A heart-thumping page turner

I couldn’t put this book aside until I’d reached the last page. Romance, paranormal time shifting, historical time period all woven together to create an engaging story. We follow Marianne as she survives a car accident that kills her husband. As she searches for a cellphone signal, she shelters in a cave...and wakes in a past century. Marianne is taken in by the Wood family, rescued by Elias the oldest son. Little did she know that she was about to become embroiled in feud that would endanger more than her life.
The pages flew as I feared and cheered for Marianne and Elias. I highly recommend All Things Eternal!

A satisfying tale of time travel, love and adventure.

As a time-travel author myself, I approached this book with some curiosity. I was pleased to find it was well written and readable, with an engaging heroine and a realistic cast of characters. The time-travel element was well handled, and the plot was nicely paced. There were a few occasions where it did feel a bit like an episode of The Waltons, but the climax and resolution were very satisfying. Overall a good read and highly recommended.
