A PERILOUS MISSION. AN IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE. ONE UNEXPECTED DISCOVERY.
Escaping Tatum City was all Lune wanted. Now that she’s out, freedom is beyond her reach more than ever. Her adoptive father knows her weaknesses. And if she fails to find Bren and complete her mission, he won’t hesitate to exploit each one.
To complicate matters further, Ryker, her wildly unpredictable companion, has a mission of his own. Lune quickly discovers that he'll do whatever is necessary to see it through too.
As the dangers of the outside world threaten to undo her, Lune must adapt to survive every new challenge. Because everything she knows, everything she’s been fighting for, is about to change.
Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games, Divergent, and Shatter Me series, THE ELITE TRIALS trilogy is the gripping story of Lune “Tatum” Avery as she fights for freedom in a futuristic dystopian world plagued by danger, secrets, and betrayal. An emotional, action-packed journey of resilience, second chances, and fierce love.

I just finished reading Adaptive again, and since I’m marinating in all the feels, I think it needs its very first review. So here goes. “This is the story of a girl learning to believe in herself. Of a boy rediscovering what matters most. In a world on the brink of change, hope and far-reaching love blooms, carrying them through new challenges and dangers. The future is uncertain, but they continue to fight—for a better tomorrow.” Adaptive’s story in particular pierces my heart because it symbolizes some of the changes I’m currently going through in my own life. Many of the themes were pulled from my experiences, hopes, pains, sorrows, and my dreams. I hope it resonates with a few of you too. On a less serious note, if you enjoy snarky characters, guess-the-movie references, and relationship angst with a little (or maybe a lot of) steam, this book is for you!
"Never apologize for loving someone. It's the greatest gift you can give them."
Adaptive by Becky Moynihan is the heart-stopping sequel to Reactive (The Elite Trials). It is a dystopian romance set in a world where the choices are limited and only the bravest of all can overcome the cruelty of the reality. In this sequel we follow Lune after the events of Reactive and it immediately picks up where we left our heroes.
Okay can I please fangirl now because I am utterly traumatized by the events taking place in Adaptive. My heart was torn from my chest and is currently being held captive in the clever hands of Becky Moynihan.
First of all, let me tell you that I ADORED every part of this sequel. If you loved Reactive, you will fall head over heels for Adaptive. The story takes to a slightly different undertone here as our genius author incorporated sci-fi elements making the series Neapolitan ice-cream which is the best kind of ice cream!!!!!!(SCI FI,ROMANCE,YOUNG ADULT, DYSTOPIAN BEAUTY).
Lune Avery is my main girl and is solidly dwelling in my heart. This girl needs a break because she goes through so much. Trials are not over yet, my friends!!!! Lune is seeking answers and discovered new group of friends who hold some answers. However, not everything is clear here. I NEED MORE ANSWERS. I am legit scared for these characters.
Now on to the main dish..... BRENDAN BEARON! This boy was the highlight of this book. I don't think I can get over how swoony and utterly breathtaking is Bren. His heart is so pure and so big, beating for Lune and oh my Lord, I am shipping them so hard. Becky bestowed upon us some spicy scenes and I highlighted them to back to and have my fill whenever I feel down. Yes, I am obsessed with Bren. This boy deserves the stars and he better get those freaking stars in the next book. :O
"She's everything I'm fighting for. Redemption. Hope. Peace. Joy. All the things I can't have until I right the wrongs I've made."
Gah!!!! BRENNNNNN <3
There are many characters I have come to love throughout the story and I am patiently waiting for their story to unravel. I know the journey is rocky and it will get worse until it gets better but I am hopeful. This series is worth it. Is is one of my favorites and I hold this characters very close to my heart.
Thank you Becky for creating Lune and Bren, thank you for gifting us your creative grace.
So everyone knows how much I loved book one because I literally never shut up about it. I got the chance to beta read this book and wow. I enjoyed it even more than book one!
This story follows Lune as she ventures outside of her walled city. The terrain is dangerous, her partner is dangerous, the other people on the outside are dangerous. But you know our girl Lune. She literally doesn't give a crap.
I absolutely loved how this book expanded the story's world. As Lune steps outside of her bubble, we learn that there's a lot more to this world's politics and lore than we previously knew. There are also a bunch of new characters that I'm in love with. Moynihan seriously has a gift for character creation.
You can really see Moynihan's growth as a writer with this book, and I'm so incredibly HYPE for book 3!! I need it in my hands right now.
Verdict: YOU NEED THIS SERIES IN YOUR LIFE. Recommend for dystopian lovers, especially Shatter Me series fans!
"Who will save us from ourselves? Having a hero complex forces us to distance ourselves from the ones we love, but what kind of existence is worth living alone?"
This sequel to Reactive opened up strong. The triangle with Ryker and Bren was interesting and I was all in. But the middle got a little murky for me. Just when I was really in with Luke and Ryker, the memory loss happens. I mean, I guess it worked for the purpose of the sequel and explaining where she came from and what her past was. But it sort of lost me. It just got a little slow for me and started to drag some. At a few points, I wasn't sure if this was a great book fit for me. Yet again, as with the first book, I just didn't relate to Lune's emotions or Bren's dialogue. I guess I like my men a bit more quiet and brooding (like Ryker perhaps). Which works great in books, but not as smoothly in real life! ;)
What the author does best is writing her action sequences. The Trials were my favorite part of the first book--which made me a little disappointed that this book took an entirely different direction--and this book was no different. The middle might have been a slow climb to get through, but the last quarter of the book was page turning. I'm glad I pressed on and kept reading. I'll definitely be reading the next in the series.
Looking forward

Ok, but really now. If you loved Reactive you're going to fall that much more in love with the characters and twists that Becky has placed in Adaptive. You get to see more of Lune and Bren, but you also get to see more of Ryker (thank goodness)!
This book opens Lune up to the outside world. Where she learns more about herself and her mission than she ever thought was possible. She creates friendships and causes strife in them as well. There are so many more elements that are added to create a new overarching theme that leaves you on the edge of your seat. This book, while similar to Reactive, is different... and man is it worth it. There is more romance, more action, and even more questions that need answers by the end.
This cliffhanger is heart wrenching and I am out sure I will be able to wait very long for the next one. Becky you're torturing us out here! Please read this series! It is so good.
I read this in one day.. once I started I couldn’t stop!
There’s twists and turns around every corner as you learn more about the characters and this world they are living in. Questions are answered and more are brought to the surface in this amazing sequel! With that ending.. IDK how my heart is going handle having to wait for book 3! 😭
I had the pleasure of Beta reading this a few weeks ago AND Y'ALL ARE IN FOR A TREAT. I can't even begin to explain just how epic this sequel is. It's perfection 😍 I need the 3rd book STAT.
Dystopian? Okay, me not so much. BUT. Sometimes I find a rare exception and The Elite Trials is EXACTLY that.
Adaptive is the second book in TET trilogy and yet again Moynihan showcases her skills not only with emotional narrative but also with her can't-stop-reading, action-filled pacing. Plus the romance; she definitely knows how to bring the heat. ;)
Now, fairly, I do think there was a bit of jumping in the later part of the book that wasn't for me. BUT the pacing continued well and the plot twists are absolute aces, so my hangups never lasted long. :D ___________
tl;dr: Adaptive does an excellent job showcasing the fast paced, romance-laden style that is becoming a trademark of the author. :D
This book is an incredible sequel! We got a glimpse out side the wall and so many more questions. The cliffhanger is awful! Here's hoping to epic and HEA ending.
........ what the hell just happened?!??!! I don't even know who's good and who's evil anymore. I don't know up from down. I can't trust my feelings or my normal book instincts. Did I even read these books or has it all been a dream?
Holy crap batman. Lune is finally slightly less paranoid... slightly. Love finally seemed to be in reach.... sort of. Friendships might have actually been formed. Peace could have been in reach.....
How is Lune going to get out of this one? I still have to believe there is hope for Ryker. I choose to believe love will prevail.
Who am I kidding someone vastly important is dying next book aren't they?!?! You are going to leave my heart crushed and my hopes broken aren't you?!?! I'm not sure you can be trusted anymore Becky. I'm not even sure whose side you are on. How long are you making me wait to find out? How can we be friends without trust?!?!
Lune Avery has survived the Elite Trials and escaped the clutches of her tyrant father, but her trials have only just begun. In the wilds beyond the city where she’s lived her whole life, she must face new challenges and dangers, many of which involve her friend and trainer Bren. Questions are answered, but these lead to even deeper mysteries.

Incredible....such a rollercoaster with emotions and actions. Couldn't put the book down for the life of me since I was so intoxicated by this book. The ending was so powerful that I cannot wait to read book 3 of this trilogy. I hope Lune kicks some real ass in the last book. I know I would after everything she has been through. I do hope Bren is alive though since he is part of her other soul...
Loving someone is the greatest gift you can give them 😢 I want book 3 right now. It’s not fair to end the book with so many questions. I loved the book. I can’t wait for 2020. Bring it soon Becky ❤️ Still #TeamBren
*I received a free advanced copy of this book from the author for my honest opinion.*
Reactive was one of my favorite books of 2018, and I think it is safe to say Adaptive is going to make the 2019 list.
Dystopian has always been one of my favorite genres, but there are few series that stick with me. The Elite Trials will be one that does. It is already right up there with The Hunger Games, and if you know me, you know how big of a deal that is.
This series is so original and well thought out. It’s full of action and snark, but it also has romance. It’s a great balance overall. Nothing feels too fast or slow, and the characters feel real, despite the powers we learn more about in this book.
Adaptive gives a closer look into this world we had only seen a small corner of before. Without giving too much away, there exist a haven of sorts. People live freely there, and those with powers train. There are glimpses into how their world came to be, with references from today’s world like certain movies, which were fun to guess. Three were actually super easy because I’ve seen them a million times, but I’m still trying to figure out the superhero one…
I love all the characters, including the new ones. Lune still kicks butt. Ryker is grumpy, and both he and Bren are full of secrets we’re only just barely starting to find out. I miss Asher a lot, but now there’s Jaxon. He’s the funny best friend of Bren. He reminds me a lot of Kenji in the Shatter Me series, so obviously I love him with all my heart.
This book is so intense and amazing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, they’d change. There were twists and reveals all throughout, and it was hard not to sit and binge-read the whole thing in one sitting (stupid responsibilities!). I cannot wait until book three. The wait might actually kill me.
Adaptive by Becky Moynihan Book 2 of the Elite Trials Series Rating: 4/5
Becky Moynihan is back with her second installment in the Elite Trials series which blew me away with its action-packed scenes and heartfelt story. I was so excited to be able to read the next book because I couldn’t wait to read what happens to our heroine next!
Freedom was all that our main character, Lune, ever wanted. However, instead of true freedom, she is sent on a mission with Ryker to find Bren and make sure he fulfills his mission. Lune’s adoptive father also has a mission for Ryker who will stop at nothing to fulfill his end. Lune must face the untamed challenges of being outside the Tatum City walls. She has trained all her life for the Elite Trials but nothing has prepared her for what she finds outside those walls. The secrets uncovered and the loyalties tested will require Lune to be as adaptable as possible.
I can’t get enough of this series! The characters are so authentic and the reader has no choice but to root for them. The reader is not sure a happy ending can occur at times which is thrilling and frustrating at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel but I believe the first book was better due to the romance. This book has less of the romance but more action so it’s still a book I would recommend. The reader is transported beyond the wall and it is not something you’ll want to miss.
I highly recommend this book but you definitely should read the first book, Reactive, before picking this one up. It is NOT a standalone novel. This book is definitely for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent.
My thanks to the author for an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
>Book Review – Adaptive >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Elite Trials series and ends in a cliffhanger. Ryker and Lune have left the city and are tracking Bren. Ryker, Lune and Bren each have different and secret missions, keeping the reader unsure as to who is the good guy and who is not. There is a lot of action while Lune and Ryker struggle to survive. Lune suffers so much pain, but shows her courage by never giving up. >I love how Lune, now with amnesia, still falls for Bren. The scenes with Bren struggling with his feelings for a Lune that doesn’t remember him are heartbreaking. The odd powers that were hinted at are now explained. Lune seems to regain her humanity as she tries to adapt to her new reality with amnesia. She is not so alone with the friends she is making. >This book is appropriate for a new adult (18+) audience. While there is nothing explicit, romantic situations along with sexually abusive situations are mentioned. I am giving this book 5 stars. The characters are engaging and the storyline is amazing. The relationship between Lune and Bren is real and keeps the story going.
***I've received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*** Actual rating: 3.5
It was a ride packed full of action and romance. I would have probably enjoyed it more a couple of years ago but nowadays too much romance tends to annoy me in non-romance books. Still, it's a book that's hard to put down and while the first one reminded me of Scorpio Races x Hunger Games, the sequel is more like Shatter Me.
There was a sudden unexpected jump that changed everything about the plot and man, I didn't see that coming at all. I generally really loved the first half but I felt that the plot in the second half was more fragmented and jumping from one place to another which affected my rating. However, it wasn't anything major and it might be just a problem with an ARC.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
For a dystopian romance, this is packing a lot of punches.
Lune - poor thing - has gone through a lot, and still has much to understand about herself, her love interest Bren, and the mysterious Ryker, who knows so much more than he tells her. Losing her memory halfway through also puts a dampener on things, especially when she sees Bren looking at her. This book makes you want to laugh, cry, scream with rage, and smile giddily. There is so much packed into this story that it needs to be read to be understood.
Highly recommend - a must-read for dystopian readers.
This sequel was wonderful! Lots of times in a trilogy the second book feels like something that’s just dragging the story along, but this sequel was really well done! I loved the mystery, action, romance and intrigue that really was built in this second book. The pain and growth in this second book was easy for listeners and readers to connect with and felt very authentic. The society and world are changing and I appreciated how the characters each went through those changes. Definitely looking forward to book three!
Loved this book. I was a bit frustrated at first when she lost her memories but I ended up appreciate that piece of the story. The character was able to develop and it was interesting see how her subconscious worked to draw her toward things or away from others. Of course, another cliffhanger so I jumped into starting the next book right away last night. Sleep be damned! I am drawn into the characters and need to hear more of their story. More mystery uncovered and more is unfolding! Okay - more questions than answers but I love it!

Adaptive is the perfect Bridge between Reactive and the final book in The Elite Trial series. Becky has a way with words that let mould our current world beautiful in with the dystopian world she has created. The relationships forged, explored, and .....well you'll have to just read it to know more. I'm not going to say the book ended nicely, or perfectly, because..... Well, again, you'll have to read it. 😋
I adored this book! It picks up right where Reactive left off and dives into relentless action, and not a small amount of romantic tension. I couldn't put it down, and may have ignored my other responsibilities while I binged through it. If you haven't read Reactive, go read it at once. If you have, then you know you need to read Adaptive immediately so you don't need me to tell you to buy it! #teamryker
I found this series accidentally yesterday and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Sometimes with dystopian books I find it hard to picture these different societies and how they look but not with these books. I feel like I’m there and can totally picture it all. Great descriptions with believable characters. I can’t wait to read book 3 and see what happens next with Lune and Bren.
*I received an ARC of Adaptive from the author in exchange for an honest review.* And, I had to add the physical copy of this book to my collection too because if you loved Reactive, then you will love the sequel so much more. This is a must read if you love action, romance, and dystopian worlds. Plus, it is fast-paced, which is a must for me!
Lune and Brens epic story continued in this book with such a great pace. I absolutely loved it!
The extra characters are very cool too. I love Ryker, I can't wait to find out more on his reasoning and backstory. And of course see where the concluding book takes the story and characters. Bring on book 3!!!
WOW. I thought the first book was good but Moynihan just does better and better. I could NOT put this one down. I couldn't put the first one down either! So grateful that the last book in the trilogy was released.
Basically, I highly recommend this book to anyone obsessed with YA, Dystopian, Romance, and something with meaning.
Speechless.... I listened to the audiobook and I was just hooked listening to this installment as I was with the first book! I really feel like the narrator portrays Lune. Glad to see Bren was along for the ride too. The ending of the book just about did me in. What a hook. If you are looking for a action packed series check this series out.
A fantastic read that had me captivated from the first page to the last. This read had me on the edge of my seat. And had twists and turns everywhere. There is epic battles and, never a dull moment in the whole book. I definitely recommend. Shauna Joesten
Wow. It felt like I waited forever for this book after reading Reactive, and then I devoured the entire book in one day. Absolutely amazing! It was an emotional roller coaster. Becky Moynihan has a knack for getting you emotionally invested in these characters. Adaptive picked up right where Reactive left off, and drew me right back into this immersive world. I am absolutely loving the story, the world building, the characters, and the writing. Absolutely recommend!
