Mr. Right was a myth from the pits of hell. There was no way men could offer anything beyond fairytales and dick. I thought I’d constructed a fool-proof way to snag the man of my dreams. I thought my book of standards would weed out the unworthy fuck boys. But I struck out one too many times. Maybe there wasn’t anyone out there for me. I was ready to accept my fate until… I kissed him. He was an arrogant pain in the ass and I was perfectly fine hating him. Hating him was what I knew. But I didn’t know anything once he tipped my world upside down. I was falling hard and fast. I’d have to let go of my issues if I wanted to keep him. But that would be easier said than done.
Danielle James is a wife and mother of two, who has written and published over twenty romance novels. Danielle’s work spans from sweet and romantic to dark and taboo. She prides herself on writing bold romance for bold readers. Her books are sexually charged with alpha female characters that leap off the pages. Each book sucks you into an entirely different world with steamy scenes, drama, and amazing plot twists along the way. Her goal is to hook you and keep you addicted so you'll come back for more.
Female rivalry, slut shaming, rudeness everywhere and even a praise to Chris Brown (who hit Rihanna enough to get her to the OR) :( Very disappointing, I expected more
What a fun read. This enemies to lovers story checks all the boxes while adding a constant stream of laugh out loud banter between Max and Kyle as well as a 90's soundtrack that will have you pumping up the volume.
Danielle is clearly inspired by 90's sitcoms and it comes across clearly in the set up and the pacing of this delightful novel. As you flip from chapter to chapter, it's like streaming episode after episode of your favorite sitcom. Of course, with Danielle, this sitcom will have to play on Netflix because she brings the heat as well.
Now excuse me as I turn up my speakers, Heavy D is calling.
So! Check this out I didn’t have anything to read because I’ve read everything so I decided to have a look through my kindle unlimited list and I stumbled across I new author to me! Lemme tell you I do enjoyed this book! It’s I can’t think of one negative thing to say about it I love everything about it the characters Max,Kyle, Namia and Candace!! Ohh! Let me not forget Owen with his freeloading self! Lol I love Kyle and Max listen to the 90’s music and binge watching all the shows from the 90’s I love me some Living Single ! Shit I felt like I was in the room with them watching this book play out I could hear them listening to all the 90 hit! I jus loved it and I’d mos definitely recommend this book to my peeps!! Check her out if you haven’t already!!!
I'm circling back to do justice to this book because I actually really liked it. I still hold the same sentiments but I felt I should divulge further.
I think what Nathaniel did to his brother was trash, Owen was the cutest and realist guy in Max's circle. Also Max had no friends, not even one from work.
The friends becoming a couple will never not be enjoyable and we got double dose even if details weren't given about Cadence & Naima, which is okay because they aren't the protagonists.
The author was not coy with the details okay, if adult is what you seek, chile that's exactly what you will get like almost every chapter was just as wild and detailed like DETAILED. The sexual chemistry never died, not once, sparks were flying.
We see some character development, how they both grow out of this "I'm not equipped for love" or "I can't trust anyone"
Kyle and Max were frenemies. They fed off rude banter, but managed to enjoy each other's company. Both previously had some rough relationships and struggled with trust issues. This made the story relatable. I loved that they showed the vulnerable side of Max, not all men are fu$% boys sometimes a situation makes them protective of their heart and they do that by detaching. Kyle, sweet Kyle didn't want to face her past so she made a list of impossible standards to avoid dealing with her issues. Without realizing it they had built a partnership and it was explosive once they realized it. I loved this book because it was a reflection of life and I always love a story that I can relate to as a black woman.
Kyle & Max's story was like my favorite 90s sitcom couple, but so so much more! That Kyle and her book of standards was a trip! I mean, she actually had a BOOK of standards! 😂 I loved Kyle & Max's frenemies dynamic. But it was also fun to watch them fall for each other. This was a fun, engaging book from start to finish! Kind of like binge watching a couple of seasons of one of the 90s sitcoms Kyle & Max enjoyed so much!😁
Great read this goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. Max was hurt deeply in his past which is why he reacted the way he did towards women. Kyle experienced a horrible ending to her situation as well. So with them being frenemies made them closer and open up about what they went thru although they fussed through the process of being together. Great ending with room to grow more books...wink wink
This is my first time reading this author book but it will not be the last. I absolutely love this story the name says it all. Max and Kyla our neighbors who have a unique relationship it turns into love. I believe everyone will enjoy the nice pace we take with them as they develop this relationship. This book is funny and sexy. This is my first book this will definitely not be my last. Great job mrs. James.
First of all, Living Single is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. The entire time I kept envision Max and Kyle from.the show interacting as Maxwell and Kyla were. I knew something was up with Cadence and Naima. This story of frenemies to lovers was amazing from.beginning to end. I loved it when Max distracted Kyla to the point were she forgot her wig and when she got to work, her boss didn't care at all!!
Some authors are gods and this woman is one of them. Kyle/kyla and Max are the best cat and dog you can ever get knowing full well behind all those insults and their inability to not miss one night watching 90's tv show re-runs is gonna daen on them. I loved this story, I laughed, I shook my head at Kyle's dramatics and loved her and her bff's. This story is so well rounded, and the backstories are juat as sad showing why these two became so cynical in a way. But loooooove wins.
I really liked this book. It drew me in from the very beginning. I was ready to be aggravated by the twist on Living Single and the name swap, they even had the right jobs but it never came. This was a great play from that storyline. I loved Kyle and Max and their immediate chemistry. It felt inevitable for them to blossom into something more.
I loved this book from start to finish, mainly because Kyla and Max were super relatable. I especially loved how they started out as friends and slowly built into something more. This was the first time I'd gotten to experience a book my this author but definitely not my last
I really felt this was Living Single in reverse especially with the names Max and Kyle even though they were on the opposite sex. But the underlying magnetism among all the scathing remarks was there. It worked for the story line though and I enjoyed seeing the succumb to the inevitable.
This story is a great read. It was a a joy to watch Kyle struggle with her feelings for Max and visa versa. It broke my heart to hear the reason behind both of their issues. This is a story that I could read multiple times over
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This was my first read by this author. I liked the pace and the back and forth banter between Kyle and Max was hilarious. Great job. Now let me explore some of her other books
Funny, sexy story with a 90's flair that made it extremely entertaining. Owen-the-Moocher was a stand-out character and I loved how he brought the heroine down to reality (just a peg or two). This was my first time reading a novel from this author but definitely won't be my last. Great story!
DNF 40% i didnt like the girl at all:( i hated her personality, and everything she said or did.. and with this being said, i didnt care anymore how she and Max end up as a couple sorry but it was a no for me
As someone raised in the 90s I love that era! The reference to living single with Kyle and Max is genius! This is my first time reading this author I will be trying more books by her as well! I love a good enemies to lovers especially rom com style!
I really enjoyed this book. The story was funny and well-edited, and had good character and story development. Interested in reading more stories from this crew.
The story was a recommended book by a trusted friend. And she was right. The author told this story from both character's point of view. The intimate way this coup!e interacted as friends was more than frenemies. It was love and lust and genuine love. Excellent Book!
Predictable but very well written...I enjoyed the plot and relatable characters...would definitely recommend and read another book! Overall, 8 out of 10
