A New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Elle Kennedy grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario, and holds a B.A. in English from York University. From an early age, she knew she wanted to be a writer, and actively began pursuing that dream when she was a teenager.
Elle currently writes for various publishers. She loves strong heroines and sexy alpha heroes, and just enough heat and danger to keep things interesting!
Pretty blonde, brown-eyed, curvy San Diego nurse Marley Kincaid (27), is trying to deal with a devastating betrayal from her former fiance of 5 months, Patrick Grier. Seems he was not the free-lance web-designer he claimed to be, but a drug dealer and a suspect in the murder of a DEA agent! Now he's on the run and the cops aren't so sure that Marley is all that innocent. They think she may know where her ex is hiding out, or that he may come back to get her. So a couple of DEA agents have set up in the house next door to Marley's watching her every move on surveillance cameras, and hoping that Grier will show his face. One of the men, tall dark and sexy Caleb Ford (31), doesn't think Marley is still involved with her ex, and can't help be attracted to her, especially when he watches her practicing her yoga moves, stretching her limbs and flexing her pelvis...
Marley...
Caleb...
Marley was stunned and devastated by Patrick's betrayal--she had no idea what he was really up to. It's been 3 months, and now she just wants to move on, and put her past with Patrick behind her. But her confidence has been shaken--how can she trust her judgment or her instincts about men again?
Marley's renovating her old Victorian, and one day while cleaning the gutters, she has an accident and nearly falls from a ladder. But who is there to catch her before she falls? Caleb watches in near horror as he sees (from the surveillance monitors) Marley's accident, and rushes out to help. Yes, his cover may be blown, but he can't let her break her neck!
Marley...
Marley is attracted to the quiet, sexy, reserved Caleb, even if he has trouble expressing his feelings. He tells her he's a writer, working on his first novel, and even though he seems a bit nervous, she buys it. Since Caleb's cover is nearly blown, he decides to strike up a friendship with Marley to see if there's a slim possibility that she does know where the man who killed his best friend is hiding out. But when his feelings for Marley become stronger than lust, he wishes he can admit the truth to her and tell her who he really is. Marley is definitely willing to take a chance on Caleb, but would it be right for Caleb to sleep with her without her knowing who he really is? Wouldn't that just be another betrayal for Marley to deal with? But how can Caleb walk away from Marley--she needs him to protect her from Grier, especially if he turns violent like he has in the past. Oh Caleb, what should you do...?
Oh, this was an enjoyable little quick read--I knocked it off in about 3 hours, it was that hard to put down! I really enjoyed Marley--she was so sunny, so optimistic, and just seemed like a good (if somewhat naive) person. It seemed like she always looked for the best in a person, wasn't one to hold a grudge or hold back with her feelings.
Caleb, because of his background in foster care, was a lot more reserved. He never had a long term relationship with a woman, had never been in love, and didn't seem to be in touch with his feelings. Work was his whole life, and he didn't have many friends. But something about Marley got him in touch with his feelings, and slowly but surely he started to open up to her, and started to see there was a whole world out there to enjoy, and a beautiful woman who 'got' him wanted to experience it with him. But there was that little lie getting in the way...
If you're looking for a fast paced read with a healthy dose of romance (and some hot sex), enough backstory to make the characters 'real', a little bit of suspense (with a rather inept, yet dangerous criminal who got tripped up over his feelings for Marley) and a nice little HEA, Witness Seduction fills the bill. Not only does Elle Kennedy give you two very likable characters to root for, but she sets up an intriguing possibility that I'd like to see happen--a story for Caleb's tatooed, biker-ish partner AJ? I think sexy AJ needs a story of his own, too! 4 1/2 stars
I have not read anything by Elle Kennedy before, but I enjoyed Witness Seduction so much I want to read her entire back list.
Marley Kincaid is a strong woman. A nurse who loves to renovate her house and keep herself busy after a disaster with her ex-fiance, Patrick. Marley started to doubt herself in trusting her instincts when her ex wasn't who he said he was, a benign web designer, but a drug dealer who has murder on his hands. Marley since then has kept to herself and kept busy with improving her house. Unfortunately, she has a penchant for falling off of ladders.
Caleb Ford is a DEA agent, his current assignment is to watch Marley and determine if she is helping Patrick evade capture from the law. He poses as a next door neighbor, but leaves her alone until one day he was watching camera monitors and sees her hanging from a ladder. Not willing to let her hurt herself, Caleb makes contact.
Right away Marley trusts Caleb, who poses as a writer renting a neighbor's house for the summer. Caleb has had a rough life as a kid and due to his job he is not one to open up or be emotional with others. Marley is the exception, the two build a relationship and ultimately become lovers. And I must say that Kennedy's loves scenes were very steamy. I have not read many Harlequin Desires, but this one was on the steamer side, the way I prefer it.
Unfortunately Patrick is watching Marley and recognizes Caleb. He goes ballistic and wants Marley to pay. And he won't go away from her life as easily as she hoped. Caleb and Marley's relationship is tested when she finds out that Caleb's profession was all a lie, hurt and feeling sorry for herself as being duped again, she pushes him away. Only this doesn't just hurt her, but Caleb as well. For the first time in his life, he is able to care and love someone but wants to do the honorable thing. He gives her space, but will still protect her despite her protests.
The events surrounding Patrick escalate and Marley is put in the situation to rescue her brother and father from Patrick's crazy clutch. I did like both of these supporting characters. End the end everything works out and Caleb and Marley have the HEA together. I enjoyed Kennedy's writing and recommend this one to others who like suspense with their contemporary romance. As well as those who love a strong sexy man who will do anything to protect the love of his life.
I enjoyed this book! I noticed that this is Elle Kennedy's old work and although her writing is not as smooth as now, I'm still feeling her classic vibe in this one. I love how feisty Marley is and how Caleb is our usual protective Hero. Look forward to read more from Elle Kennedy! ♡
I understand that it's a novel but WTF was that? I’m sorry, but I had high expectations for this author, and that was just not good. So cheesy and boring. I very rarely give 2🌟, but I couldn't help it
A sexy read. Though the story has been done before, hero keeping an eye on the heroine because he wants to catch her ex, I enjoyed it because of the smoking hot chemistry. We see the hero who has always liked being by himself fall hard and fast and then scared out of his mind about losing her because of her deception. Short & sexy.
I hadn't read any of Ms Kennedy's books in the past but this is the second Harlequin Blaze title that I have read in the last few days and have been impressed so will go in search of her other work :)
DEA Agent Caleb Ford was on a mission, and part of the job was to keep his eyes on Marley Kincaid.. And he's really got his eyes on her, alright, not for her beautiful physique nor breathtaking beauty. He's got surveillance all over her house and knew when she was going to do yoga or may be have her bestfriend over. Hey, it's all part of his job.. And he was doing damn fine with it.. Until she was about to fall from the roof while she was cleaning the gutters. And fall she did right into his arms.
Big mistake. Because Agent Caleb Ford wasn't supposed to get in contact with the subject. Because he was supposed to be spying on Marley who could be aiding and abetting her ex-boyfriend turned drug dealer turned murderer. Yes, he wasn't supposed to touch her...
Because one touch meant he would never be able to resist her again.. and again.. and again.
Witness Seduction is a great read! I didn't know that this was a reprint of one of Elle Kennedy's old novels. I find this high-octane, action-packed book very entertaining, thrilling and definitely seductive. And when it's from Elle Kennedy, expect it to be steamy, hot and blazing!
Two days prior to reading this, I was so emotional and overwhelmed by the books I've read, so I decided to read Witness Seduction. I already expected it to be hot and fiery... What I didn't expect was my lips getting scalded when sipping a hot cup of coffee while reading about Agent Caleb Ford and his unsuspecting subject. Damn him and his way with a lady.. So smooth and brusque at the same time. I wouldn't mind getting my hands cuffed by this agent. Hmmm.. hmm.
Can't wait to get my hands on another Elle Kennedy book again soon!
Side splitting blurb, and then a side stitching story with a straight jacket. In short, not funny, not engaging. It's annoying how Harlequin romances have such a standard template. The story has to follow a set of instructions, cover certain milestones in certain chapters and only then will the get published. And keeping in mind the kind of authors they have, it really strips off the imagination and inventiveness from the authors' minds. Elle Kennedy has had a much better run in the following years with The Deal and following books. I'll be extra cautious about reading Harlequins in the future. Not had a great experience with them.
Quick and easy read that featured a hunky FBI Agent, Caleb, and sexy nurse, Marley. If you are looking for something simple with a very light plot and slightly steamy, this may be for you.
I wasn't dazzled by the writing, plot or characters, but it was okay and fit my mood at the time.
For me, Marley came on as too aggressive and if she hadn't put the moves on Caleb (more than once), the book would have been very dull.
A little more "umph" and this could have easily been turned into a great read!
Witness Seduction by Elle Kennedy is a sexy and sweet title from the Harlequin Blaze line that released on August of this year. Seeing a fantastically done review of this little number up on Goodreads certainly whetted my appetite for more and here I am finally, 2 months afterwards writing my review for a book that proved to be quick, entertaining and sexy read that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. And a point worthy of mentioning is the fact that it was with the review of an Elle Kennedy book that I started this blog, that being her novella Heat of the Storm.
31 year old Caleb Ford has been a DEA agent for the past 10 years. His current mission is one that is personal to him, spying on the ex-fiance of a man called Patrick who is the reason for Caleb’s best pal’s death. Though he would like nothing more than to be detached from the woman he is spying on like every other mission he has been involved in to-date, something about the woman calls to him on a much deeper level.
27 year old Marley Kincaid wants to forget. Forget the fact that she had been duped so well by a man she had lived with for five long months and being none the wiser, forget that she had such poor judgement when it came to falling in love and giving up her heart. So she hides behind her job as a nurse and for the rest of the time works on renovating her house, not altogether amused by her best friend Gwen’s attempts at making her jump back into the dating world.
When Caleb and Marley’s worlds collide, she can’t help but be drawn towards the altogether too sexy and beautiful for words man who just seems to ignite a fire that burns hot and deep inside of her. Though Caleb feels not altogether too comfortable about making personal contact with the witness, he has no choice in the matter and he tells himself that he goes back to Marley in the name of the mission.
Before long Marley and Caleb together generates a fire that burns out of control, both unable to step back and away when it comes the burning sexual fire that has been between them right from the start. However, Patrick lies in wait, closer than either of them ever thought, biding his time until he can claim the one woman he is insane about, the one woman whose betrayal would bring the cards tumbling down.
Though a short story, Elle Kennedy has got a way with creating characters that are endearing and generate a passion between them that is scorching hot that reader cannot get enough of. Caleb’s character is not the type to ooze charm, which one would expect of him considering his movie star good looks and body. But he is taciturn at best, one who doesn’t find it easy to open up to other people. He likes his woman the way he likes his cars, fast and forgettable and Marley is definitely not that.
Marley’s character is such a sweetly endearing one. She is beautiful, cares about other people and has a way of drawing the inner person that lurks inside of Caleb that makes her such a great heroine. Caleb does betray her by lying about who he really is, and that hurts Marley more than she is willing to admit. And even then, she is intuitive enough to know, understand and believe that not everything that had conspired between them is a lie and is woman enough to forgive and accept Caleb back in her life, a man that completes her in every way.
I know that the term sweetheart is one that is used by heroes in a lot of books, but when it comes out of Caleb there is just something innately sweet and endearing about the term. And I found myself melting each and every single time he lets the term slip. With a cute little epilogue tucked at the end, I loved Witness Seduction and am hankering to find out whether Ms. Kennedy has any plans to write stories for some of the other colorful characters that we meet along the way.
Recommended for fans of Harlequin Blaze titles, fans of Elle Kennedy and for those that love a lil bit of mystery and action tied with passion of the toe curling variety.
REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK; JAN 13, 2014: DNF Narrator: Lola Holiday
Felt very Harlequin. Dated, even. I was at my hairdresser and didn't bother to bring my Kindle. Just listened to the audiobook on my iPhone and thought I was listening to one of the old Nora Roberts I'd uploaded on my phone. After awhile, I was thinking it didn't have Robert's voice, the story didn't feel like an NR and stopped it to check the minute I had an opportunity. Once I saw it was not an NR, I was both relieved and dismayed. Relieved because it meant Roberts was still Roberts and is recognizable even in her old books; dismayed because I'd just bought 4 other Elle Kennedy audiobooks!
However this is a Harlequin Blaze so I'm hoping the others, which are not category books, will be different in tone. I've only read one other Blaze many years ago. All I remember is that the heroine had a clit ring.
Marley Kincaid is done with men after her fiancé of five months turns out to be a murderous drug dealer. Now she’s semi-hiding in her house, under suspicion of the police, and under surveillance by the DEA.
The one doing the surveilling Marley is utterly unaware about, is Caleb Ford. And after a week of watching the sexy nurse doing yoga, he’s a little hot and bothered. Then, he has no choice but show himself, under false pretenses, of course, and things go a little out of control.
All that stands in the way of their happiness is Marley’s obsessive ex...And the pesky tidbit of Caleb’s true identity.
A short, sweet, and very hot read with a very rom-com premise and plot, two very likeable main characters, a conflict that doesn’t drag for too long, a nicely crazy villain, and very light (unfortunately) on suspense.
Ok, I really liked this one! This whole plot of a cover agent getting involved just gets me. Maybe because I'm one of those persons that likes to suffer a little, so I like when the characters face a challenge in their relationship like discovering that he was not her neighbor but an agent. It's also a hot book with loads of sexual tension even that is not that big of a book. I enjoyed the main character as well as the "little" suspense.
