Fireman Mike would really like it if the rest of the crew would stop teasing him already. The lady who keeps calling him to come get her escaped cat is not helping.
Laurie Baxter has degrees in both puppetry and screenwriting because let’s face it, majoring in English would have been no more useful and way less fun. She loves chocolate, ice cream, chocolate ice cream, dogs, New York City, old movies, modern architecture, all kinds of theater, and music from before she was born. Her eighth grade English teacher told her to become a writer, so she did.
This was such a cute and funny quick read, where a fireman is constantly being made fun of by his fellow firefighters and it doesn’t help his case when a woman calls up the fire station to ask for help in rescuing a stuck cat. Reluctantly he goes to help and Mikey and Janine have an instant connection, there’s chemistry and some banter between the two of them. Janine then posts online Mickeys heroic rescue; he’s expecting more backlash from his colleagues but is surprised when there’s a different outcome… they’re suddenly starting to respect him now.
Although I did enjoy ‘The Rescue’ I would have liked it to be longer, i think it could have served a better purpose as a novella instead of a short story. So for that reason I’m giving it 3.5 stars!
Super cute super quick short read. The famous cat? I could not stop laughing. I’m glad Mikey was able to redeem himself with his crew. But come on? Making fun of him because of the “dog”. So mean! I would definitely be swooning.
Mikey, a firefighter who’s often teased by his colleagues, faces more ridicule when he gets a call to rescue a cat stuck in a tree. Reluctantly, he goes to help, where he meets Janine. From the moment they meet, there's an undeniable chemistry and playful banter between them. After the rescue, Janine posts about his heroic act online. Expecting more teasing from his fellow firefighters, Mikey is surprised when the response is the opposite—they start showing him newfound respect.
This is a sweet, short book, and it definitely could have benefited from being a bit longer. The characters are simple: Mikey seems like an interesting and cute guy, and Janine is really persistent but also a bit clumsy in a way. For a short book, it’s quite well-developed, and in some parts, it's really sweet.
Good little romantic comedy I enjoyed this very short romance that can be read in less than an hour, but in a few lines, sets the mood in which the firefighter Mike Harris works. It is very well described and it helps to understand that his colleagues can be annoying toward him, and making fun of him. Also, it is partly humiliated when it is to him that is entrusted the task to untie the cat which Janine had the guard in a theater. Then, there are a series of pretty funny situations in which is placed Jeanine and that Mike must solve I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Mike is the newbie at the fire station and everyone's making fun of him for rescuing a toy animal. When a crazy lady calls to have a cat rescued and the chief sends Mikey, they're joking about him even more. The whole situation turns around when the crazy cat lady creates a donation.. and Mikey becomes the star of the fire department.
It was a funny short story but I enjoy a full length novella better.
I received an advanced copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review but I bought this short story to have my review verified.
If you need a quick escape from the grind, I recommend The Rescue by Laurie Baxter. This is truly short (36 pages Kindle says) but will definitely put a smile on your face. This is definitely a Meet Cute scenario. All I will say is that there is a young fireman, a harried lady and a prima donna cat. This story was very entertaining.
I enjoyed this quick read about a rooky firefighter, Mike, being teased by his coworkers after rescuing a dog that turned out to be a stuffed animal. When he gets a call to rescue a famous live cat, he earns respect after his photo with the cat raises a lot of money for the fire station. This is cute and funny and is my voluntary and honest review.
Cute short story. This is book one of 5 books series I believe it’s 5 books! I will be starting book 2 today and short stories so I hope to finish this whole series that I started today!! Thank you Laurie Baxter for the free series, I am enjoying so far! I will continue listening to book two and do more chores.
The Rescue is a truly cute "meet-cute" short story with a very likeable hero (I seriously felt bad for Mike(y) with the relentless teasing by his colleagues) and a funny damsel in it-seemed-a-good-idea-at-the-time distress.
I really enjoyed this story! It's amazing that you can get such a complete story in such a small number of pages. The characters are likable and fun. It was exactly what I needed to read in between other books! I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If Melody Anne is the writer, I definitely want the book. She never fails to write great books that are fun and romantic. Her characters are so believable and likable. Her plots are always enjoyable and enjoyable. This is one of her best.
The Rescue is a delightful Cute Meet Shorts book. A fireman, a cat and a heroine needing help.... all shouts 'read me'. The perfect short story to read when taking a break with a cuppa and cookies. I definitely recommend this short but sweet book.
The crazy cat lady does not help Mike with the firehouse crew. He is constantly being teased and the crazy cat lady makes it so much worse. The life of being the new kid on the block, until things change and unexpectly so.
short romance, romantic comedy. super quick read .. sometimes it is fun to read a book that doesn't take a long time to read ...gives u a quick get away ... an escape/vacation away. will read more from Laurie soon enough. great style.
This is a cute, light short story that takes place over a couple of days. There is no depth to the story but it is a sweet story with a happy ending. The characters were all likable and this was a nice change from some of the other reading I've been doing.
A very short and very cute little story! If you want something to read in a lunch break then this short story is the one, it will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. I wont go into the story or the characters because it's all been described well in the many other reviews.
A cute story. I could feel the humiliation that the crew subjected Mikey to. And the concern that Janine felt. The attraction between the two was palpable.
Totally whimsical and outlandish. Enjoyed every silly moment. Exquisite tour de force. Love Laurie's romantic sweetness. Love snarky cats who know just who to nuzzle.
I was mad when I start reading the book because I don't like to make fun of others special when you're making the other person uncomfortable and mad... but in the end, I was glad that Mike's coworkers got some kind of pay back.
A lighthearted, fun, quick read. Will leave you with a smile on your face. Enjoy I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
Terrible book. It’s a short novella, only 30 pages but I just couldn’t finish it. It’s soo terrible and the mmc is so annoying and a little bit of an asshole
This was such a cute little story. I was laughing out loud quite a bit. Especially with the name of the cat. That was really clever, but also hysterical!!
