The Rise Of The Sadecs #1

Surrendering To Her General

Rate this book
Kenzi was a submissive who'd never quite worked up the courage to tell any of her lovers about her fantasies. She'd never dared to explore her need to be disciplined and dominated, but all that changed when the aliens arrived. Now submissives and masochists of all kinds are a premium product that can be traded to the sadistic Sadec race in exchange for their incredibly advanced technology.

Her life will benefit the entire planet, and her sacrifice will be rewarded in numerous ways. In return, all she has to do is surrender, giving up all freedom and choice for five long years. No safewords, no escape, no changing her mind – once she signs the paperwork, she belongs to whomever buys her.

Tal never intended to keep Kenzi for himself, but once he tastes her sweet submission, he finds that he can't let her be auctioned off to just any crew member on his ship. He'll share her with others, whether she likes it or not, but she will belong only to him. His woman. His pet. And if he has his way, she won't be returning to Earth at the end of five years.

Publisher's Note: This is a dark, steamy sci-fi romance with elements of power exchange and is intended for mature readers.

Definitely Not Human👽

I found this book a mixture of a fascinating taboo human subject👋 and ideas, and sci-fi, which makes the whole storyline acceptable. Maybe!

Since aliens👽 are not humans, they can have very different ideas and social norms that are definitely not human. Read at your own risk!

The first part of the book had me almost ready to not finish it. There was way too much time spent on explaining the what and why of the human woman Kenzi💃, and her desire to be a pain receiver in a Master/slave relationship.

The extremely long narrative was clinical in nature and also explained the sadistic nature of the Alien Sadecs👽 and how they appreciated young women like Kenzi💃.

Finally, the author got into the actual story. I have no problem with the book, but there are many Sci-fi Romance readers who will because of the sharing by Kenzi's owner, General Tal👽. He shares her favors with other warriors aboard ship. This is definitely a no 👎no in Adult Sci-fi Romance.

I've read hundreds and hundreds of books in this genre and this is a first! I am trying to explain as best I can and not get censured by Amazon's review policies! It's tough to write a G rated review of a XXX rated book!

ARC Received from Booksprout🌱
I also got the book with KU.

The long narrative at the beginning hurt the overall book. The strange customs and social norms of the Sadecs👽 will probably turn off many readers. It is hard for me to rate the book because it is outside the genre norm. Maybe that's a good thing?!

Enjoyed the story. Kenzi comes to Tal as a pain receiver slave for five years and ends up permanently mating with him. The story is well written and entertaining. I would recommend this book as a great read.

First story for an Extremely Promising Author
If you want to read a story with a lot of fluffy goodness, that is cookie cutter to thousands out there, this is not a story for you. In this story, there is a completely different world out there. How humans are, about aliens watching Earth, options for humans to be with aliens. It is a totally different world! This story not only had a totally different world, it really gets into some fantastic characters. You get into their head and understand what they are feeling and why they are feeling a certain way.

I sometimes compare stories to food. Some stories are like fast food. Quick and light without a whole bunch of deep thought in it. Sometimes the story is like a fancy 7 course French meal. Deep story, characters and it lasts a long time. This story is deep. It isn't something you will read in 2 hours. You will be enjoying it for at least five hours and you will get into it. I am really looking forward to more stories by this up and coming author!

In this story, Aliens have been watching Earth for thousands of years. A planet has to reach a certain level of maturity before they will be contacted by aliens and offered membership. It is also kind of like a science experiment that can't be messed with until it is completed. The time has come for aliens to integrate with humans, giving humans some of the scientific and technology benefits. Of course, they want something in return. One such alien race, the Sadec race, wants Pain Receivers. These are humans who enjoy pain. Not drastic pain, but they get excited with pain. Being that the Sadec race is a bunch of warriors, the only way to combat their warrior ways is to inflict pain on another, either in battle or in the bedroom. They have made a deal with Earth that for any humans who pass a whole battery of tests, they will get a brand new adult body of their choice in exchange of five years as a Pain Receiver, a slave. There aren't many Pain Receivers so they are considered priceless and precious. They also share their Pain Receivers with others, depending on the Master's status. The higher the status, the less sharing. But in their society, when you cherish or value something, you share it more, not horde it.

Kenzi signed up to become a Pain Receiver because she has been a closet submissive. She has never found anyone to be submissive with and when she can't control how she feels, she hurts herself, so she has scars she would like to get rid of. Her only living relative, her father, has passed so now she is alone. She feels that she can deal with the five years of slavery if she would have a brand new body to her specification. There wasn't a lot of information about what would happen if she passed all the tests, but it beats being on Earth.

Tal is the General on this ship. In their world, three of the highest Generals rule their world/society. His grandfather was one such Tri-General Ruler. His goal is to become one of these Generals and lead their people into the future. To do so, he needs to lead the way with the Pain Receiver trade. He wants to make sure that the people who actually pass and get their new bodies are worthy and to be able to share them with the most warriors so the warriors can settle down and be something more than fighters in the universe. When he was watching the testing of Kensi, he had to step in and do the testing himself. Something that was unheard of. He ends up buying her and training her.

I really liked how in depth the story got about the society and how they did things. I enjoyed the interaction between Kensi and Tal's grandfather.

This is a wonderful new book by a new author that I hope is going to be a series. It is set in the future of the human world and their integration with the rest of the universe. The Sadecs are a race that is very aggressive. They have learned that being with what they call Pain Receivers helps them control those urges. They contract with humans for five years of servitude as a Pain Receiver and in the meantime, Earth gets gifts of technology etc. from them. Kenzi has signed up and is taken as a submissive for the General. What she does not know is that their culture shares their submissives. When she is punished for disobeying and leaving his quarters, she is shared with the crew first for discipline only and then with others more intimately. But, Tal has a plan and there will be a HEA. I really enjoyed this story. The punishments are harsh, but there is consensual non consent. I give an enthusiastic 5 stars!

Sadie Marks is a writer whose career now I intend to follow. This was a 1st for me from her and it's very, very good. It's the typical setup--sexually dominant aliens want earth people for kinky sexy-time...BUT what I especially noted and appreciated is the inclusion of male *and* female subs, doms and switches, as well as a more realistically built and presented world where NO, two completely different species just can't automatically birth viable offspring, and yeah, earth culture has evolved a bit in a progressive direction around sexuality and other issue.

Just very well done, and hot. It seemed a bit intense to me early on--a little darker than I'm used to, but that early heightened sense of sexual anxiety got a big payout.

It ended kinda sweet, in its way. High recommend read from me.

Sadecs are an interstellar species of warriors who are inherently sadistic, and they’ve discovered that of all the species in the universe, human masochists are the perfect fit. Heh.

What starts out as almost slave/master ends up quite romantically. But still S&M.

Read the TWs. One hours-long ritual (pain but no p/v) involving much of the crew is definitely noncon.

I very much enjoyed this erotic D/s alien romance. I deducted 1/2 star because (IMO) the author delved too deep into the history of the aliens, their politics, their agreement with Earth, etc (for me). I found I skimmed much of these portions, although I realize the author did put a lot of effort, imagination & work into setting up her world, the aliens & her characters, so many people may appreciate those portions more than I.
HOWEVER, that being said, I found the author's writing to be excellent, I came to care for Kenzi (h) very much. The author had a light deft touch in describing Kenzi's emotional floundering/confusion at suddenly attaining everything she wanted. Or did she really want what she got?
Kenzi was given a brand new flawless body per her personal & exacting specifications, & in return she was to be a sexual slave/submissive to the aliens (Sadec's) for 5 earth years. Simple, right?
But the Sadecs are sexual/physical sadists & need true masochists/submissives (Pain Receivers), which Kenzi knew she was. Well, more masochist than submissive but still, all her erotic dreams & fantasy's involved her being dominated by a stern & sadistic master. In order to ensure the Sadecs received the 'real' thing, all humans applying to receive a 'new' body went through rigorous tests & trials. Which Kenzi passed. But it is one thing to desire a fantasy & another altogether to live it.
Tal (H) is a high level Sadec who acquires Kenzi. Tal is strict, stern & loves imparting pain on his human 'slave/pet'. But the author never allows Tal to slide into abusive or evil, he does enjoy being a sadist but he isn't intent or harming Kenzi permanently either mentally or physically. He has more concerns than Kenzi is aware of or is able to conceive. She is unaware of much of the Sadec culture & is focused on trying to understand her own chaotic emotions when it comes to both Tal & his punishments & erotic encounters. Kenzi's body loves what Tal does & how, but her mind balks & fights her efforts to submit & even her desire to experience & enjoy the pleasure he gives.
And later in the story, Kenzi's ignorance of the Sadec culture & beliefs cause her to become depressed & confused about her intensifying feelings for Tal.
The author did a wonderful job in weaving a tale about a woman who achieves her deepest desires but finds she is overwhelmed & confused by the way she's flung into the situation without time to prepare & absorb her new 'reality'. The reader is drawn into Kenzi's journey to adjust, to assess & to ponder reality vs her fantasy & her path to finding herself while doing this. We come to realize Kenzi's gradual awareness of her growing feelings for Tal & her distress & sense of loss & abandonment at learning about certain requirements Sadec's have for any & all 'Pain Receivers' due to their rarity & how highly they are treasured. And that too is handled very well I thought, when Kenzi finds out exactly WHY the Sadecs do what they do with their Pain Receivers. Original, I felt, plus it made sense to me & did (IMO) elevate the Pain Receivers well above mere sexual slaves/pets.
A sexy, romantic, thought provoking alien scifi I found I very much enjoyed.

Not the Usual Sci-Fi Romance

Kenzi had to take care of everything, always in charge and getting whatever had to be completed.

She wanted to lighten her load be submissive, trusting someone else to make the decisions and do what needed to be done.

She had a fantasy of going to a BDSM Club or being in a BDSM relationship but never let her secret out.

The Sadecs need the volunteers to help curve some of their violent tendencies. Tal was especially fascinating because he is in leadership, plus he wanted to change the ways of his people gradually.

The day the Sadec came the opportunity to become a Pain receiver rose and so she to volunteers and eagerly signs up to become a slave to the Sadecs. Once she signed the paperwork, she belongs to whoever buys her, and there is no changing her mind.

Kenzi doesn’t know much about the Sadec cultures before she made her commitment and when she finds out she is devastated but its too late

The Sadecs make sure all humans they receive are really submissive (pain receivers) before they are accepted by giving them through tests. The last giving to her by General Tal himself. When he saw Kenzi and how responsive she was, he took her as his slave. He knew she was a virgin, and he had to have her.

She passed all with flying colors, so she was accepted and was given a new body from her specifications without a flaw or blemish. All she had to do is be a submissive slave for 5 earth years to the aliens.

Kenzi feels a sense of abandonment and loss when she learns of requirements for all Pain Receivers the Sadecs have in store for them.

The part about being shared with others was not my cup of tea, but it was explained very good. In my opinion, it would have been much better if Tal had given her time to come to terms with the idea and agree to it to please him.

This book is not what I expected at all. Sci-Fi books are one, but this book has a twist even for that niche. Full of intensity, quite interesting things with much darker aspects. The Sadecs culture and customs and how they got their name,

The reader is pulled right in by Kenzi’s reaction to every new experience while fully realizing her situation. It is full of surprises, hot and steamy, and she is considered General Tal’s latest and most willing slave.

Will Kenzi be able to handle her new life for the next five years?

Will Tal be able to convince her to stay?

Humans that meet the criteria are able to join the Sadec as slaves
Kenzi had always known she was somewhat different from other humans, she had always felt the appeal in D\s lifestyle but had not previously done anything about it.

However the opportunity to undergo a complete body restructure by literally growing a new one and then having her actual whole consciousness put into this specifically designed outer as she had requested. She had to undergo a plethora of tests to ensure that she would be an ideal candidate as their expectation s and desires were very specific and not a lifestyle to be entered into lightly.

She knew that the final test soul determine if she would be selected by the Sadec, it was a very important ability to be able to respond digitally during and after punishment, she was not in any way shy of retiring in nature she did however find submission and discipline very arousing.

So as she is faced by an actual alien male Tal and finds herself on the receiving end of his wrath after failing to do as requested this will be the determining factor regarding the next five years of her life.
Will she become a slave to one of more Sadec as they travel through the galaxy and possibly onto new worlds for the term of her contract, five years.
After today her future will be ascertained unless she fails to pass the most important test of her life, then who would have expected that after a fairly short time with her General "Tal" she would actually become more than his slave and more than simply his to command.
Perhaps this little human may in fact be the first human to see what only other Sadec's had seen before and now that the joining had taken place and they were mated it was something that had never happened before between these two races and it was hopeful that over the years Tal and Kenzie would change Sadec opinions.....
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Surrendering to Her General is the first book in the Rise of the Sadecs series. Kenzi has always known she’s a submissive and when the opportunity comes to volunteer to become a slave to the Sadecs, she signs up right away. Reality is much different than her expectations, especially with no experience, but she slowly develops a bond with General Tal, her master. But when she breaks a rule, her life changes again. Will Kenzi be able to handle this life for five years, and will Tal be able to convince her to stay?

Holy smokes, this book had me on the edge of my seat! I love alien romances, I love romances with a power dynamic, and when they’re together, my heart is definitely happy! Kenzi is absolutely fabulous, I loved how strong of a character she was, how she struggled with her pride, how expectations were different from her reality, and I loved the clash between the human and Sadec cultures! The Sadecs are so interesting because they need the submissive nature of the volunteers to help curve some of their violent tendencies. Tal was especially interesting to me because he was in a role of leadership, had visions of slowly changing his people and their ways, but also embraced the role Kenzi played in his life. There are some serious cultural differences between the two of them, naturally, that cause strife and contentment. While there are some punishment scenes, there’s also affection, friendship, and love that’s built within these pages as well. I’d be curious to see more interactions with the other humans on the ship, and I feel like there’s a huge emphasis in the beginning about her new human body, but later in the book, it’s barely referenced. I really enjoyed this book, I love stretching my imagination for sci-fi romances, and I look forward to reading more in this series and from this author!

A slightly different spin on the alien/human interactions in this romance. For Earth has been under observation by the alien council and finally varying species can meet the earthlings. For the Sadecs who are after human females willing to submit and be the masochist to their Sadist desires. At this price if one test well the payoff is huge, the perfect body can be designed for you and a full conscious move to it, with a five year servitude added.

Kenzi is such a female, for her adult life she has had yearnings of submission, but due to an upbringing where she was taught to fight and be strong she didn't enter into this on earth, but now things have changed and she has signed up. When she is chosen it is the Sadec who carried out her final test on earth she is contracted to.

As time goes by, will she learn the lessons he wishes to teach and is what they share, just for sharing or will they be something more than just a pain receiver for all the Sadecs on board Tal's ship?

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and hope to read more from this Author in future, i loved how the Sadec got their name it was very ept i thought.

Kenzi remembered the day the Sadec came, they called them the Sadec because they liked causing pain. There was nothing much of her life left so she decicded to sign up to become a Pain reciever. She had never been to a BDSM place before, but had heard of it and liked what she heard. When she was excepted she had to go though tests. One by one she passed the tests till she came till the last test, the last test was performed by the General himself. He knew he had to have her, knew she was a virgin. She passed the test, but what came next she really wasnt prepared for, but no matter what it seemed like her body always betrayed her, and her feelings well was she really becoming to love this man?

A well written book, and i thoroughly recommend it. Its an 18 and over book, and if you dont like spankings or anything with pain then please do not read. But for those who absolutely love all of the above then read till your hearts content.

The love that grew between them was strong and committed!
by sewsummore
This was an unusual story combining science fiction and dominant sexual activities associated with the BDSM life style. The aliens were a warrior race who in the past had taken women captives as a submissive, the urge to enforce their dominance had in the past caused many wars due to these actions. In this story, the women were encouraged to volunteer to become submissive. Kenzi was one woman who yearned to be mastered and this was her story, many of her experiences were painful to read but the love that grew between Kenzi and her dominant warrior General was strong and committed.

I almost didn't read this book because I was afraid that it would be too harsh (having recently read Jane Henry's The Bratva's Bride and The Bratva's Baby, and Megan Michaels' Hard Daddy and Rough Daddy, I've had my fill of "harsh," not "dark," mind you, but really, really unappealing). But this wasn't, though I do have mixed feelings, which made this hard to rate. Below are my likes and dislikes (of course, as with all reviews, this is my opinion).

Likes:
1) By and large, this was consensual, which is a deal-breaker for me. In today's culture, I'm not interested in anything that normalizes rape or non-consent, even in fantasy (scroll down to "dislikes" for what I mean by "by and large").
2) By and large, the acts represented were mutually-satisfying kinks; the author carefully outlines all the safeguards the Sadecs put in place to make sure that Kenzi was never harmed physically (such as having their version of a doctor stay with her during one ordeal, etc.); and the humiliation was kept to a minimum (ymmv) in that no one called her names, slut-shamed her, or insisted that she follow a lot of draconian rules (scroll down to "dislikes" for why I emphasize "physically").
3) When it came to discussions of , the Sadecs made it very clear that it was her body, her choice (again, in today's climate, I'm not interested in any book that doesn't, even in fantasy, which is why I gave Savages one star).
4) This was generally well-written, with proper grammar, few editing errors, sentence variety, detailed world-building, and character subjectivity. It's a sad comment on the general quality of these books that I even have to say this.
5) Though Kenzi is a masochist and submissive, she isn't weak and can defend herself. Again, it's a sad comment on the general quality of the heroines in these books that I even have to say this.
6) I liked that there were male and female doms/dommes, submissives, and switches. None of this "me man, you woman therefore you have to submit" that is so prevalent in far too many of these books, which can make some people look upon BDSM as misogynistic. Authors: I suggest if you don't want people to do this, you stop writing misogyny into your stories.

Dislikes:
1) I didn't like the fact that they used drugs on her. Even though it was carefully explained that the drugs only heightened her arousal, rather than creating it, it was still too controlling for me.
2) I really, really didn't like that she got a new and "improved" body in exchange for contracting as a slave. This was too close to body-shaming for my comfort. What's wrong with having scars? Blemishes? Brown hair? I really wish authors would stop creating characters that are young, beautiful, and thin. Ms. Marks: the message you're sending in a culture that already body-shames far too many girls/women isn't a good one.
3) I didn't like the fact that the H shares the h without her consent or knowledge. Exactly what her submission entailed should have been spelled out very, very clearly in the contract. Kenzi thinks she should have asked more questions, but the burden was actually on the Sadecs to be very clear -- particularly since they knew what would happen to her and she had no experience. Truthfully, sharing isn't my thing -- another reason I almost didn't read this book -- but I also had problems with the way it's presented here.
4) The author's entire discourse on what sharing meant in this culture was clear, but given Kenzi's and Tal's feelings about it, the author's overall attitude towards sharing was incoherent.

Overall, I would recommend this book, with the above disclaimers. 3 1/2 stars.

Wow. This book just built in its intensity as you read on, revealing way more layers than I expected to get. It has some very intense things, and some darker aspects as well. It was very interesting reading about the Sadecs and their very interesting culture and customs. I was surprised in the best of ways with how much more was in this book versus my initial expectations. There were plenty of surprises, especially towards the end that really sealed my enjoyment of this book. I really would love to read more in the series.

Slave or what

Kenzi signed up for five years as a pain receiver. She ached for something she could never bring herself to ask for from a human man. But with Tal, the Sadec general, she was required to give up total control. To be dominated and be submissive, is what she craved. But she discovered some hidden pains she had not resolved. It was freeing, in the realization that she loved Tal. But did he feel the same? Read the book! You can relate to some of the conflicts with both sides. This is definitely an adult only romance book! If you are squeamish, then don't buy this book! But I enjoyed reading it and recommend it to the like minded.

Out of this world romance between Kenzi who signs up to be an alien Sadec submissive for five years and General Tal. Kenzi has always been in control and is martial arts trained. But she has always wanted to explore her submissive side. The relationship is rocky from the start as she keeps fighting her dominant side and need to control. It is hot, steamy and electric! It is well-written with a highly developed plot with sufficient history to flesh out the background and help the reader understand the hows and whys of the story. Both Kenzi and the reader are taken out of their comfort zone time and time again. I’m hooked and ready for the next book! Well done!

I couldn’t put it down...
Rise of the Sadecs - The Sadec people are sadistic by nature so when they discovered that there were masochistic people on Earth they opened up trade offering pain receivers like Kenzi five year contracts as their slaves. Kenzi is new to the bdsm lifestyle. She has always been drawn to it but was afraid to act on her desires. When General Tal saw Kenzi and how responsive she was he he decided to take her as his slave. There are parts of the Sadec culture that Kenzi didn’t know about before she made her commitment and she’s heartbroken when she finds out...

This is a new author for me and she certainly didn’t disappoint! I enjoyed the world building and the value Kenzie has as a Pain Receiver. It’s all very emotional and she resists even though she is getting exactly what she signed up for. Tal doesn’t soften at all but we see glimmers of caring. Even the sharing which Kenzie was opposed to turns out to be a bit cathartic for her. It was dealt with very well indeed. Very enjoyable!

This is a well written dark romance that has a lot of steam in it. Two different cultures, that of the human submissives and the Sadecs as alien masters came together in a way neither expected. There are a lot of possible triggers in this plot but for the most part it is written in an understanding way. There is total power exchange between the characters. It’s enjoyable read if you enjoy the darker romances. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book. The premise was original, as were the characters and their interactions. The growth in Kenzie and Tal and the change in their dynamic as the story progressed was well written. I really liked Tal's Grandfather. There were certainly elements that were outside what I usually enjoy, but they worked within the context of this story. I would recommend this to anyone who would likes steamy alien romances.

I was torn on rating this -
I really enjoyed it , it kept me engaged and I loved the characters. The story line was easy to follow with all the important bits included.
Lots of angst and self discovery. Just felt something was missing.
This is a M/s S/m relationship .. just know that going in.
If that isn't your cup of tea you may want to skip this as it is written without apologizes.

Sadie Marks has written a thoroughly interesting alien tale. The author created an intense alien environment for her characters to exist in. Kenzi’s feeling towards Sadecs customs versus what she expected kept the story jumping and enjoyable. Tal’s need to dominate Kenzi just adds spice to this tale. I loved this story and look forward to more from Sadie Marks.

Although I found this book a little hard to start I am glad I finished it. The story tells us about a woman who finally goes after what she wants in an unorthodox method. I would have liked a little more information about the development of the relationship between the characters but I think the author gave enough information that the reader can fill in the gaps for themselves.

OMG I'm in love!

This book is amazing! I struggle with BDSM books. I also don't like humans becoming slaves for aliens. But this book I enjoyed. The slavery is consensual which helped me get passed these hurdles. Now on to the review.. This book deserves 4.5 stars. It's a dark and fast paced love story between a human who volunteered to become a slave and an alien general. I hope to see more of this author and more books that continue along with this world!

Hardcore bdsm erotic alien romance Right out of the box you need to understand this is a bdsm love story of dark promise. Many people cannot wrap their heads around a masochist and a sadist in a loving respectful relationship. This may not be your cup of tea and that’s ok. But if you like it HOT and dark, this is the place to be. Add in hunky aliens and a servitude contract and you’ve got yourself a wham bam winner. Looking forward to the sequel.

Surrendering to her General is the first book of the Rise of the Sadecs series. Kenzi, who always dreamed of being dominated, is given to Tal in exchange for technology. Though she is scared, she is also secretly happy, because Tai is going to fulfill all her secret dreams and she loves to surrender to him.
The story was a very interesting read I enjoyed it very much.

Great start to a new series! Kenzi is a submissive and volunteers to become a slave to the Sadecs. Sparks begin to fly between her and her new master. This is a fast-paced sci-fi read wit loads of drama and suspense. Kenzi and Tal are great characters and the chemistry between them is steam. I look forward to more in the series.
