Best-selling text presents new and returning college students with practical, hands-on methods of increasing their performance inside and outside the classroom. It helps them make the connection between their academic efforts and their job and life skills. They learn a variety of personal productivity skills related to positive work and study habits, as well as creative problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
The new edition has been extensively updated to include an even stronger integration of the theme of "Self-Management", reinforcing the importance of character and personal responsibility. All the interactive exercises and assessments have been revised to promote critical thinking, and a new culminating chapter now focuses on exploring majors, career development, and service learning.
This textbook has many positive qualities and is a great book for students with strong reading skills who just need a bit of a boost to gain study skills, and a better understanding of the connections between school and future success to help them with motivation and deciding upon a career. It does not work as well, however, as a text for students who may have strong motivations to succeed, but are lacking in basic skills. I recommend it for students with strong reading skills, but not for students who need remedial instruction before they will be ready to work at college level.
