This sequel to the excellent Dance of the Tiger: A Novel of the Ice Age escaped my notice earlier, not being linked by Goodreads to the same author. Just as well though, as it proved to be a dud unfortunately, and unexpectedly too, as the other works I've read by this paleontologist are quite well done. Where the first book brought novelty to the idea of interactions between modern humans and Neanderthals, with beautifully described Ice Age landscapes and fauna, this one just dragged along with the descendants of the original characters and their uninteresting and inconsequential existence. Other than just one dramatic bison hunt near the beginning, the rest of this thankfully short novel was boring, with the fight between two one-tusk mammoths just a few pages and a mere highlight near the end.
