Today, a missionary couple came to my church. It just so happened that Joi Copeland also writes my genre of choice: Christian, Historical Fiction! Whaaaat?!
It's true!
She and her husband also live with two of their 3 sons in Ireland 😯🥳. Be still my 💚. My Irish roots have been traced back to the 1600s (thanks Daddy!).
Anyway, when I went home & joined her newsletter, I was gifted this novella which I immediately sat down & read. I really enjoyed it & even shed some tears. It's a gritty Western but points the reader to Jesus & His redeeming love. Sheriff Cord is also the preacher, all set to meet his mail-order bride. Patience plans to deliver the bad news her twin, Prudence, had other plans, & isn't coming. Some REALLY bad men rob the stage & things take quite a turn.
Not only do I have a new author I am excited about, but now I have a lovely new friend I am looking forward to getting to know better.

Cord and Patience
This is a sweet loving mail order bride tale written by Joi Copeland. Cord is a young man needing a bride. He is the town pastor and also the town sheriff. He places an advertisement for a bride and Prudence accepts the offer. She has a twin sister, Patience and she believes she is to accompany Prudence to marry her groom and then return to Texas. Before they reacher Cord Prudence confesses she has already married an man her sister doesn’t know and now Prudence expects her to show up pretending to be her and marry Cord. Oh what a tangled web we weave when we deceive! Prudence leaves Patience to continue the journey and she joins her new husband in Oregon. Only before Patience reaches the town where Cord is waiting the stage is robbed and all are killed but her. She is left wounded and presumed dead by the thieves. You will greatly enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

A sweet novella with a small bit of suspense
This novella is a sweet Christian romance set in the old west. Patience’s sister, Prudence, is a mail order bride. They are traveling together to meet the groom, Cord, who is a preacher and sheriff of a small town. But Prudence tells Patience that she’s already married and is going elsewhere to meet her husband. Patience continues the journey to tell Cord the news in person. While short, the story was well written and the characters were well written. I plan to read more from the series.

I love Joi Copeland as a friend and now as a writer. The Preacher's Surprise surprised me. The story ended with a twist I never would've imagined.
Patience Adams, twin sister to Prudence, accompanied her sister to Twin Bluffs. Prudence was to be married to the town preacher, Cord Holloway. But plans changed and Patience found herself married to Cord, who also served as the sheriff. Nothing worked as expected and Patience encountered frightening danger.
The story has a lovely spiritual message as well as entertains the reader.

The Preacher's Surprise is a fabulous read. It is very short at under one hundred pages. It had me captivated from beginning to end. I loved this sweet and clean historical. I highly recommend it and give it five plus stars.

Inspiring
I enjoyed the story. Although it was shortish, it had enough to be an interesting and engaging story. I especially loved the God bits, they make the story for me! Like the style, will need to try more of her books if they are like this one.

The Preacher's Surprise. I enjoyed this book! It was very interesting. The story is full of adventure, suspense, and it kept me anticipating what the characters are going to do next. I am ready for the next book!

patience for the preacher
I’m not a huge fan of mail order bride stories, but this one was awesome! The twists in this one, along with the suspense and powerful message made it so. Very well done!!!

Although this is a novella, it is packed with adventure along with sweet and funny moments. Definitely would love to read more about the couple or even how Prudence's marriage turned out, but it was still entertaining and inspirational.

Enjoyed reading this book very much. It was a short read but filled with all the best things needed. Clean, Christian, surprise, and adventure.
