Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.
He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.
All my gals are here!! Hermes is a babe!! Foo Fighters is a delightful weirdo!!! Jolyne continues to be the best!!! Also that extra chapter with Rohan was so great, I loved seeing that dumbass again
Maybe I'm just not very creative, but Jolyne's uses for Stone Ocean have me popping off. That little bridge she made was such a clever use of those powers. Great grandpa Joseph would be proud. The mystery of which person was an enemy was pretty fun as well. I'm surprised that sort of mystery hasn't come up more often, since anybody could be a stand user. And then Jolyne just starts punching people because that's easier than figuring out. She's a Joestar, alright. I loved the moment where she takes off for the warehouse, leaving Hermes to move the wristband. No hesitation- just pure confidence in her friend. It's a powerful case of actions speaking louder than words which isn't dwelled on. It was a really great moment.
I'm not sure I understand Foo Fighters, though. It's basically a zooplankton that has a stand and mind. And it looks like it has two discs, so it got both from them? Foo Fighters itself claims to be conscious thanks to an inherent intellect in all living things- intelligent design, but the designer is within every organism. It's not really clear which rules about how it works are from it being humanoid plankton and which are just the stand's rules.
Regardless, I appreciated the references to philosophy. Always nice to see outside influences pop up in manga. And if a manga can teach me things about the real world, even better. Pucci is interesting in that regard. He believes that what separates humans from animals is the desire to go to heaven. You may infer from this that he's actually referring to humanity's ability to plan for the future, or maybe to aspire for some idea of purity. Which is an interesting take. I don't want to get more into it before I learn more about this character. But needless to say, Pucci has me interested.
What matters more than the "how" behind Foo Fighter is what is done with the character. While I didn't buy into the face turn for the character or how casually Jolyne and Hermes are about it inhabiting somebody's corpse, Foo Fighters definitely won me over. It's childlike enthusiasm is really charming. And I can always appreciate some enthusiasm about drinking water. Stay hydrated, folks.
To follow up on a point I made earlier, the needless provocative posing has definitely died down in this volume. Jolyne in particular gets some cool as hell power poses, reminiscent of her dad.
And finally, I would like to draw your attention to Marilyn Manson; the world's first fuzzy stand. I repeat, we have laid eyes upon a fuzzy stand. It's a Christmas miracle, folks.
This volume primarily concerned itself with the Foo Fighters fight and setting up the Debt Collector fight. I think F.F. was an interesting stand, especially since learning that it has no stand user. The limitation that the stand must stay near water was a good premise to work around, and Araki seemed to have had fun setting the fight in a marsh, and having a hose in the warehouse. I'm super curious to know what Jolyne is going to do with Star Platinum's stand "disc". Still not sure what she's even able to do, but looks like she also need her fathers soul disc to fully revive him.
I love that our gang recruited F.F. to join our side, and I'm interested to see what more they can bring to the table for the fights and for the story.
We also got a glimpse at White Snake's user, who seems to be in some position of power at the prison. His stand power seems totally OP, but not in direct combat (that I know of, for now). Encapsulating stand powers in discs is super cool. Will it be possible for someone to gain more than one stand power at once? What is White Snake stockpiling stand powers (and souls) for?

FOO FIGHTERS!!! i love them. they are so so funky and i loved the shift from “intellectual” plankton f.f. to foo trying to be human. such a strong character. and the white snake reveal!! the character design is immaculate, but araki never fails in that regard.
i’m gonna keep my manga volume reviews about this length because it’s almost like reviewing a chapter in a full book so i think this format works.
FF I FUCK WITH YOU. I RIDE FOR YOU. you are a little freakbob but like... yeah HELL YEAH IN FACT> literally girl trio ASF. FUCK THE MEN. (we will get back to that because ... Yes Fuck The Men Indeed) BUT UGH LOVE MY QUEENS
