Tobin’s questioning everything he was ever taught.
War is coming.
Having encountered the wild-Fade – The Shroud – in the deeper Dark, the Arclight prepares to make humanity’s last stand against the nanite horde that began inside its walls. Marina’s Fade-family helps where they can, but their own fight is coming. When unexpected faces appear at the gate, no one knows if it’s the first sign of hope or destruction.
I burned through this trilogy, pun intended, but nothing will really top the first book and the big reveal.
I still enjoyed the second book, but this third one became Honoria's story (which, i love her so it's fine i suppose) but it was an interesting direction. The main character really didn't do much but emote and talk to herself and make way for other people, including Cherish, to be cool. Honoria really was a superhero in this. Over time i stopped caring about marina and Tobin (he got real flat real quick) and cared about essentially anyone else. (Evergreen, Mr. pace and his love life, Sykes, etc)
Several times I had to go back and read what just happened because things didn't always make sense. "Oh! We're outside now?" And "who's talking and feeling this way?" Were questions i asked a lot. I respected the metaphoric writing with being a Fade and experiencing feelings in a multi-dimensial manner, but sometimes the meaning of what was being said was lost or seemed too flowery and distracting.
Would definitely re-read the first book though, for kicks and giggles now that i have more context and know what to look out for.
P.S. Ann Marie grew on me big time. Love the Snow White angle.
I waited for this book for a long time. I really enjoyed the series. Horizon made for a great ending, and I enjoyed the author's imagination and writing style. She draws you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole read. I highly recommend this series to anyone who reads YA.
