John Crane #4

Aftershocks

Rate this book
“These men are strong and cruel, and you aren’t. Don’t try to fight your enemy on his ground, with his weapons. You’re smart. That’s your power. If you want to help, do something smart.” Georges Benly Akema was a technical genius with a bright future until a moment of sudden violence tore it apart and shattered his family. To fight back, he needed a hero. He found John Crane. Georges armed Crane with sophisticated weapons and technology and sent him out to battle the evils he couldn’t fight on his own. He thought he’d found a new place in the world and put the past behind him. But Crane’s world is a dangerous place to be, especially when Georges is lured out of his workshop and into the field. And the past is never really gone. The effects of that one savage moment linger, warping lives years later and halfway around the world. Now, with Georges’ family in crisis and hostile forces closing in, they must combine their skills and stand together against their common enemies. They must find a way to mend what was broken before the aftershocks destroy them both.

About the author

Mark Parragh

10 books23 followers
Growing up in rural Virginia, Mark Parragh seized on stories—spy stories in particular—to escape the isolation and monotony of real life. He grew up with a deep love for old James Bond movies and Mission Impossible reruns on TV, and survived on a cache of forgotten paperbacks he discovered in the attic. He devoured books by Alistair MacLean, Eric Ambler, and Robert Ludlum when he was clearly too young and impressionable to be reading such things.

Mark Parragh is the author of the John Crane series of spy thrillers. He currently lives in a much less rural part of Virginia with his wife and young daughter.

I have really enjoyed reading the John Crane series, and I am looking forward to more. In this volume we are introduced to a new player, Georges; and another one is not around for this story. Some of the story line from the end of John Crane #3 is not followed up, but Mark Parragh does good in keeping our mind off of that. From Los Angeles to Germany to Iceland to Cameroon -- this story is a world wide adventure. I particularly enjoyed the time that Crane spend in Iceland (and if you read the story, I think you will to). If you decide to enter the fun of the John Crane series, I think that you will like the adventures of John, Josh, and Georges. Although, I am still baffled how the writer intends the information from #3 into the story lie.

This is another winner in the John Crane series.

This story beginns by introducing Georges who lives in Cameroon. His family is targeted by a mob because the father does not want to do the one thing the the leader wants. Violence ensues.

Georges and his family make it to America where he meets Josh, John Cranes boss, and starts working for him. Georges works with John on a mission to recover a data card. The mission became quite dangerous for both.

John and Georges also return to Cameroon to find Georges sister, Romy who had returned to settle a score.

The ending is well done and I recommend this book highly.

Funny where life takes you.

Upfront information: This is part of a series of books about John Crane. There is violence and adult language.

John Crane is constantly pulled from mission to mission with very little preparation. Georges is thought to be a genius needing some place to serve. Josh is the person who brings them together. Will this trio be able to solve the issues before them with luck, talent, and dare I say it, money?

I enjoyed how Mr. Parragh introduced a new main character and some intriguing villains. Plenty of action and heartache to go around.

A thoroughly enjoyable thriller, featuring a very capable special forces hero who is teamed up with a technical specialist who has something to prove.
Some great action sequences and clever storylines, actually two separate but connected stories, kept me involved to the end. I also thoroughly enjoyed the locations, which are very well described.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author, but have voluntarily reviewed it.

Aftershocks

Mark has another excellent story dealing with John Crane and the assorted problems he finds trying to do the right thing. Can’t wait for the next Crane novel. The hero is not perfect, but he never stops trying to help ordinary people!
