I’m Brandon Sanderson, and I write stories of the fantastic: fantasy, science fiction, and thrillers.

The release of Wind and Truth in December 2024—the fifth and final book in the first arc of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive series—marks a significant milestone for me. This series is my love letter to the epic fantasy genre, and it’s the type of story I always dreamed epic fantasy could be. Now is a great time to get into the Stormlight Archive since the first arc, which begins with Way of Kings, is complete.

During our crowdfunding campaign for the leatherbound edition of Words of Radiance, I announced a fifth Secret Project called Isles of the Emberdark, which came out in the summer of 2025. Coming December 2025 is Tailored Realities, my non-Cosmere short story collection featuring the new novella Moment Zero.

Defiant, the fourth and final volume of the series that started with Skyward in 2018, came out in November 2023, capping an already book-filled year that saw the releases of all four Secret Projects: Tress of the Emerald Sea, The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, and The Sunlit Man. These four books were all initially offered to backers of the #1 Kickstarter campaign of all time.

November 2022 saw the release of The Lost Metal, the seventh volume in the Mistborn saga, and the final volume of the Mistborn Era Two featuring Wax & Wayne. Now that the first arc of the Stormlight Archive is wrapped up, I’ve started writing the third era of Mistborn in 2025.

Most readers have noticed that my adult fantasy novels are in a connected universe called the Cosmere. This includes The Stormlight Archive, both Mistborn series, Elantris, Warbreaker, four of the five Secret Projects, and various novellas, including The Emperor’s Soul, which won a Hugo Award in 2013. In November 2016 all of the existing Cosmere short fiction was released in one volume called Arcanum Unbounded. If you’ve read all of my adult fantasy novels and want to see some behind-the-scenes information, that collection is a must-read.

I also have three YA series: The Rithmatist (currently at one book), The Reckoners (a trilogy beginning with Steelheart), and Skyward. For young readers I also have my humorous series Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians, which had its final book, Bastille vs. the Evil Librarians, released in 2022. Many of my adult readers enjoy all of those books as well, and many of my YA readers enjoy my adult books, usually starting with Mistborn.

Additionally, I have a few other novellas that are more on the thriller/sci-fi side. These include the three stories in Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds, as well as Perfect State and Snapshot. These two novellas are also featured in 2025’s Tailored Realities. There’s a lot of material to go around!

Good starting places are Mistborn (a.k.a. The Final Empire), Skyward, Steelheart, The Emperor’s Soul, Tress of the Emerald Sea, and Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians. If you’re already a fan of big fat fantasies, you can jump right into The Way of Kings.

I was also honored to be able to complete the final three volumes of The Wheel of Time, beginning with The Gathering Storm, using Robert Jordan’s notes.

I really enjoyed the conclusion to the Legion trilogy. So much so I do not want it to end, I keep trying to think of new ways he could come back, or what his future holds.

Legion gets a message from his past that will definitely affect his future. He is given the choice of his life, but to find peace he must first face his nightmares.

It was awesome seeing these characters evolve and grow, I know Legion' s pain. Though the characters are not real I will miss them. A great story a bit on the short side with a more bitter the sweet ending. Legion the series might be finished but but he will be remembered.

I waited nearly four years to read this book to have it all come to...this? Really? I mean, REALLY?



But hey, I guess I can't complain. At least I didn't buy the book as soon as it was released and therefore didn't get totally ripped off by paying 10 bloody shrimping euros for 100 miserable pages. So go me and stuff.

Our Lord Shrimp knows, Mr Sanderson and I have had our, um, differences, in the past. Nothing, um, major, mind you. Just slight, um, disagreements, about the, um, quality, of his writing abilities and stuff. Ever wonder why the whole world members of the Sanderson Cult put a bounty on my head, or why they eat shrimps for breakfast? Because they're a heartless, intolerant bunch? There is that, yes. But I think it mostly has to do with the fact that they start convulsing whenever someone DNFs gives a 2-star rating rates one of Mr Sanderson's wonderful books anything less than 5 stars. Told you they were heartless.

Anyway, my point is (because yes, there is a point), if you see me actually adding one of Mr S.'s creations to my to-read shelf, it should tell you something. Yes, it should. What should it tell you, you ask? That said creation might perhaps possibly not be entirely crappy (unlike the rest the stuff Mr S. usually writes). As it happens, this little series right here may or may not be one of my mostest favoritest ever (but don't tell the Sanderson Freaks Cult, or I'll never hear the end of it). So when I saw that we were finally getting a new instalment in this series, I went all like…



I know that losing one's lower jaw in public isn't very polite, but you have to understand, I've been waiting for this story to be published for three bloody shrimping years!

So off I went to pre-order my copy (please refrain from mentioning this to the Sanderson Freaks Cult, too. I'm afraid it wouldn't be good for their heart pressure and stuff). And I saw the price. And I went all like…



10 bloody stinking euros for a 100-page novella? You know what this is called, in technical terms? A bloody fishing rip-off, that's what. Stephen Leeds, I lurves you and stuff, but not THAT much. Also, I have plenty of harem slaves boarders to take care of entertain me while waiting for your overly overpriced price to dramatically go down, so I'm sure time will fly in the meantime and stuff.

I still love Brandon Sanderson’s LEGION series and adore Stephen Leeds and his hallucinatory aspects, but “Lies of the Beholder” ... was kind of a letdown.

As “Lies of the Beholder” (the third and last novella in this series) begins, Stephen Leeds is giving a private interview to Jenny Zhang, a reporter who begins displaying far more insight into Stephen’s mental state and thought processes than he’s comfortable with. This uncomfortable interview is interrupted by a text from the long-missing Sandra that says, simply, HELP. Stephen is desperate to find Sandra, but her trail is elusive … and some of Stephen’s aspects are becoming alarmingly unreliable.

“Legion” and “Skin Deep” are both fun, fairly light reads with some intriguing psychological aspects. “Lies of the Beholder” is significantly different in tone. Without getting into spoiler territory, I admire Sanderson’s decision to take the final Legion story in a different, darker direction, but the final story felt like it needed more fine-tuning.

The concept and basic plot of “Lies of the Beholder” is a strong one and had several truly surprising ― even shocking ― moments. However, there are some significant plot holes here, and I didn’t think the various elements tied together in a way that was sufficiently logical within the framework of this universe. As a result, I was left feeling vaguely dissatisfied with the resolution of Stephen’s story. That dissatisfaction was underscored by a final wrap-up that suggested a far too simple answer to the problem of Stephen’s schizophrenia.

I’m still enthusiastic about the LEGION series as a whole. Stephen and his aspects are both original and appealing. This last story was almost great, but didn’t quite hold water for me.

While still a worthy conclusion to the series, I didn't love this quite as much as the other two novellas. For one thing, it felt like there were fewer fun interactions between Stephen's hallucinations, which I loved most about this series. For another, this was less of a sci-fi mystery than the first two novellas. Stephen was not Sherlock Holmes solving an unusual case but had to deal with more personal stakes. His main objective is tracking down the elusive Sandra, who once helped him control his hallucinations. Not only is he answering her cry for help, but because his aspects have started erratically, he hopes she will be able to help him again. You’d think because of the higher emotional stakes, I’d love this even more, but something of the old “formula” worked better for me as did the lighter tone.

All in all, I've incredibly enjoyed the Legion novellas and I really don't know why they don’t get more love. They are something wonderfully creative and fun, proving that Sanderson is not just an amazing fantasy writer. I really am going to miss Stephen and his projections – J.C. most of all.

This was a bit underwhelming, though it was a good conclusion to the series I expected more.

Stephen Leeds is still crazy despite denying it, his aspects are always fun to read about.

The world building and writing is great, I actually liked it.

“Who cares?” I said. “Yes, it’s all in my head. But pain is ‘all in my head’ too. Love is ‘all in my head.’ All the things that matter in life are the things you can’t measure! The things our brains make up! Being made-up doesn’t make them unimportant.”

The above quote is so accurate, every important thing in our life happens in our head.

I like all the characters, they are all well written, my favourite is JC.

The plot follows Stephen Leeds who has lots of hallucinations that he calls aspects, they all have different skills. Recently something is not right with them. There is one other person like him, Sandra, she taught him all he knows about how to use the aspects then she disappeared. She just resurfaced when he is loosing control of his, is she here to help or not.

I broke my fucking hiatus from goodreads to give my tow cents about this freaking book which is bad for me , me entering goodreads is like "Alec" entering wonderland i get lost pretty fast and for so long... Any who , i never thought i will be "dissing" a Sanderson's book in my life, but here i go: It felt so bad so shitty , near the end you have the impression that something is wrong that something is missing: it was just soo limp ,,, yes limp that's the exact word I'm looking for , it's like when someone is having sex and near the end his dick falls off or deflate or whatever ... WTF I'm saying , i don' know anymore, it's just that i liked this series so much, and to have it end in this pathetic manner is very awful AAAAGHh...

actually, i finished this book a few days ago, but i forgot to add it here because i was too busy distracting myself with  cute, short love stories. (after finishing it, i felt like i really needed a big distraction. 😭)

if you don't know, i didn't like the first book and was pretty sure i wouldn't like the whole series. then i read the second book, and i liked it a bit 😺.and now, after finishing the entire series, i can say that this will be one of my all-time favorites.

i usually prefer forming an emotional bond with the characters, and at the beginning, i thought this series would be a disappointment for me in that aspect (as i did in many ways). but when i started this book, the first thing i realized was how much i missed Steve-O and his hallucinations :"). and that also made me realize that i had formed a strong emotional bond with them <3.

i don't want to explain the plot because i can't do it without spoilers, ehehe. but i can say that i cried through most of it, especially the ending. "i am sane, but my hallucinations are mad."

if we set aside the author's zionist perspective, which was a big disappointment for me in the first book, i think the only flaw of this series is that it't too short. if these books had more pages, they could have reached a wider audience. i really hope it will be adapted into a TV show in the future!

i highly recommend this series to you. maybe you won't like the first one, but as the story progresses, i think you'll enjoy it as much as i did (or at least, i hope so!)

Muy buen final. Anderson lo cerró todo muy bien, y con un final tan nostálgico, como realista.
La tercera parte me ha gustado tanto como la primera. Es una trilogía corta y no aburre. Tampoco hacen falta libros tan gruesos, si de ofrecer el conjunto de los elementos necesarios en una buena obra se trata, y este ha sido el caso.
La trilogía merece la pena, y el tema sobre la personalidad múltiple lo aborda con originalidad.😊👍

Nightmares didn’t follow the rules.

At first I liked the tone of the novel, dark to even represent horror for an instant (I even liked it more than the previous 2), but then all that crescendo was blurred, leaving a weak ending that he tried with good intention to give it a end to the trilogy.

Stephen goes to an interview to fulfill a commitment, and suddenly he receives the long-awaited news from his friend Sandra, asking for help. We soon found out that Stephen is having a crisis related to his hallucinations, his control is disintegrating.

Or where Stephen is not Neo, but not exactly The Little Prince either.

JC still is the best.

Al principio me gustó el tono que llevaba la novella oscuro hasta representar horror por un instante (incluso me gustaba más que las 2 anteriores) , pero después se desdibujó todo ese crescendo quedando en un final débil que trató con buena intención de darle un final a la trilogia.

Stephen va a una entrevista por cumplir un compromiso, y de pronto recibe las tan esperadas noticias de su amiga Sandra, pidi+endole su ayuda. Pronto descubrimos que Stephen esta sufriendo una crisis relacionada con sus alucinaciones, su control esta desintegrándose.

O donde Stephen no es Neo, aunque tampoco precisamente El Principito. ;P

10/02/20: Full Review Up!

Book number 4 and my first series from Brandon Sanderson done and dusted!! Yes, I am aware this is a short story/novella but I’m never getting used to the word ‘novella’ and I’ll stubbornly use the word ‘book’. So yeah.

I’d say this is a pretty great conclusion to the series. I’m not gonna say that I was super invested in the characters or the series bcz with a person like me, who unnaturally favors the longer books, it’s hard to actually feel connected with such a short series. But if I talk from the entertainment value standpoint, I think this is a pretty dang good series that you can devour in a very short time and get a win-win scenario by ramping up your book count and still getting an engaging read.

Overall, I think this series has given me a good chance to get acquainted with Brandon’s writing before I delved into his bigger and more appreciated series/works. I like how he writes, it’s breezy and still keeps the pace. The suspense was well maintained and the way he created his characters in such a small length, I think that was admirable.

I go confidently to Amazon to do a Sanderson-only book haul!

Rating - 7/10(Good) - RIP Hallucinatory friends :(

This is the final novella of this insane trilogy and I am really sad to say that this novella was really disappointing. I am going to go ahead and criticize this one completely.

The novel was a emotional journey for me and I felt more concerned about the aspects of Stephen Leeds (mainly Tobias :( ). The idea was avant-garde in my opinion and the psychological elements were addressed in an excellent manner.

But other than that the novel was not a great ending to this trilogy. There were many plot holes that were not addressed properly by the author. The ending of the novel was awful and bland. The main antagonist was annoying and Sandra was a complete jerk. If she hadn't been the plot element, this series would have gone smoother. But this is not the worst. The worst of all is the killing of the characters. Damn!! The author had to kill off all the aspects and just bring them back by typing on a computer (not clear if all the aspects are brought back to life though). Seriously? That was not cool man.

I get that the author was exploring different aspects of hallucination and it's psychology. But not providing a fine ending is just making me lukewarm. :(

SANDERSON DID IT AGAIN. I never meant to get attached with the aspects nor to actually really love this novella but why dafuq am I ugly crying????????? (Hahahah who am I kidding?)

This final novella was truly an emotional and turbulent read and to say that my heart is obliterated to a million shards in the ether is a fcking understatement. This was just so good especially the last parts. I do think that it's a Sanderson thing to spill all the fckload of emotions and plot twists by the end. Lies of the Beholder is the culmination of the inevitability of it all. This was painful and I LOVED IT.

Easily - EASILY - The best of the series.

For such short novellas, these pack quite the punch. I read this following the release of Sanderson's "Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds", which is a single volume containing all three of these novellas. This conclusion really rounds it all out and brought a sense of closure to a set of circumstances and characters that I really didn't think would end impressively. Well done.

These are by no means hefty, but they do require a good deal of attention to really appreciate the nuances and developments that Brandon makes throughout the series. Highly, highly recommend if you're in the mood for something quick to chew through in a day or two.

Not much to be said about this, it was decent enough but only lasted a few hours and didn't differ all that much from the other two that came before it. The narrator is good and manages the different voices well making each distinguishable from the other and the pacing is done nicely. There just wasn't masses of substance but then again it is a short story which I can struggle with.

The completionist in me made me listen to this one but I don't think it was necessary really.

Vee bir serinin daha sonuna geldim. Brandon Sanderson'dan okuduğum 3. seri Lejyon serisi olmuştu. Ocak ayında başladığım seriyi Lejyon Kayıp Suretler'le bitirdim. Her ne kadar kısa kitaplar olsa da yeterli hissettiren bir seriydi. Brandon Sanderson asla boş bir olay anlatma gereği duymamış ve karakterleri derinleştirmeyi, ilginç bir olay oluşturmayı iyi başarmış. Psikolojik rahatsızlıklara bolca değinilmesi de beğendiğim bir noktaydı. Bu kitapta yine bir maceranın peşine düşülürken Stephen Leeds'in yaşadığı sorunları anlatıyor. Bir yandan da artık konuyu toparlayarak finale hazırlıyor. Her ne kadar hızlı bir bitişe sahip olsa da bana yeterli hissettirdi. Yarı açık bir sondu ancak insanın sinirlerini allak bullak eden cinsten belirsizlikte değildi ve nereye bağlanacağı görülebiliyordu. Bence Lejyon serisinin en iyi kitabıydı. İlk 2 kitaptaki konular daha heyecanlı olsa da bu kitaptaki duygusallığı daha çok beğendim. Sonuç olarak keyifle okuduğum bir seri oldu. Well, I suppose it had to happen sometime. I'm rating a Brandon Sanderson book less than four stars. He's written about five million of them, so statistically this was a very likely outcome, eventually. And now it has, and we can all move on with our lives.

I really enjoyed the first two novellas in this series. The premise is great (a genius who has schizophrenia channels his illness into the creation of imaginary people who he calls aspects, all of whom are experts in one field or another). And it was so fun seeing it in action in the first two books! But here, everything starts to fall apart. There were hints that Stephen was losing control of his aspects in the first two books, it was intriguing to see where Sanderson took it, and even while he's falling apart here, it remains interesting. My problem was with the ending.

I did not feel like the ending worked as a resolution to the story I was reading. Sanderson has said that this series, and especially this third novella, are really personal to him. And I get that! But sometimes when you make it really personal for yourself, it doesn't always translate to other people. I wasn't reading a story that had anything to do with paralleling Stephen and his aspects with the way a writer thinks about his characters. It's just not something that resonates with me in relation to this story. So the fact that the ending was keyed towards resolving something I didn't need resolved, just made me feel like the story I was reading doesn't have any resolution at all.

Oh, well. I guess you can't win them all. I'm sure I will again in the near future enjoy a Sanderson book. (I have high hopes for Skyward!)

Lejyon Yitik Suretler tam da beklediğim gibi bir kitaptı. Stephen'ın halüsinasyonlarından biri olan Armando ortadan kaybolur ve bu durum Stephen'ın eski kabuslarının geri gelmesine neden olur. Halüsinasyonları bir bir çekip gidince Stephen ne yapacaktır?

İkinci kitapta Stephen ve halüsinasyonlarının arasındaki bağ hakkında edindiğimiz bilgilerden sonra bu kitapta okuduklarıma çok şaşırmadım fakat şaşırmıyor olmak üzülmeyeceğiniz anlamına gelmiyor. Özellikle de en sevdiğiniz halüsinasyonların başlarına gelenleri okuduktan sonra kalbiniz bir parça kırılıyor. Onlara ne kadar alıştığınızı fark ediyorsunuz ve Stephen’ın yerinde olmayı hayal dahi edemiyorsunuz.

Kitabın adı zaten konuyu ele veriyor, çok detay vermeye gerek yok ama Sanderson yine çok çılgın şeyler yazmış. Önceki kitaplarda üstü kapalı anlatılan konulara nihayet bir açıklık getirilmesi güzel oldu. Serinin devamı gelir mi bilinmez ama gelmesi gerektiğini düşünenlerdenim. Bu olay burada kapanamaz, henüz cevapsız sorular var.

This was the third and final book of the Stephen Leeds trilogy and I loved this so much. I just wish they were longer or there was more to the series.

Unlike most of Brandon Sanderson's works this is more of a contemporary mystery book. Steven Leeds manages his multiple personality disorder by externlizing them as separate personalities he interacts with. So he has a little multiple personality disorder mixed with sichzophenia. He sees and hears his personalities and interacts with them. Each personality has a different set of skills that Stephen Leeds can utilize at any time just by interacting with those particular entities. This is so unlike anything I've ever read and it was such a pleasure to read.
