Take…

Seventeen screaming Shifters without a smidgen of sense…

Five feathered femme fatales led by the most fantastic fuchsia Flamingo…

One broken-down, bramble-covered, behemoth of a building called Bailmore Hall…

And a hot-as-homemade-sin hunk of a Hound Dog with hazel eyes who makes me huff and honk and think of humping.

Throw them all together in the backass Swamp on the wrong side of Tallullu Parrish, Louisiana, sprinkle with a dash of murder, a pinch of mystery, and a helluva lotta mayhem and you've got my life.

My name's Maxine Monroe. We are the Maidens of Mayhem. Bodies buried with twenty-four-hour notice and a picture ID. Padded rooms and straight-jackets kept in the closet on the right ~ arranged according to size. And alibis provided upon request.

Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!

I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters,
a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked.
I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books
I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance.
I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!

REVIEW
Another absolutely hilarious read from this Author.
Maxi has to head back to LA due to the death of her father, which brings her face to face with none other than the sheriff JD who is her hound dog although she won't admit it.
Livvie has trouble with a capital T so it's the Flock of Bird Girls to the rescue or is that need rescuing? haha haha

The Magic and Mayhem world is amazing. So I knew the Maidens of Mayhem would be as well. This isn't the first book I have read with a flamingo shifter, but it was by far the most hysterical. Although it's the first I read about a hound shifter. And some of the others. The characters introduced here are off the hook. The banter is so full of heart and humor. From the very first page there is 'mayhem'. JB is a force that Maxine doesn't know how to handle. Although they know what the Fates have decide for them, there is something larger that they will need to deal with first. Only then will they be free to explore what they have together. Ms. Mills has done it once again. A story you will not put down. Between the laughs, mystery, friendships and love, you find that you just want to fall deeper into this world. I am happily and voluntarily leaving this review.

Disclaimer for those this affects...this book contains sexual content and profanity. Even with that said, this storyline is hysterical! The humor very much could be offensive for some, but this is truly consistent for this skilled author. Harmony ( a repeat character from another book) discovers more about her origins complete with more family a witch could ever want or need. Meanwhile she loses something extremely precious to her and seeks to defy fate. Easily read in a couple hours, this novella is a slam dunk with all its magical challenges and craziness. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

A town full of shifters of all kinds (flamingo, hound dog, owl...just to name a few)...I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
Part of the Magic and Mayhem world and a fun (and funny) start to a new series. It's filled with great characters, a little mystery, some danger, crazy friends, and smexy times. I recommend it.

I received a copy of this book via Prolificworks. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or remuneration.

A really good solid fun read.
Mayhem just about sums this up. The laugh out loud moments were plentiful and the characters insane.
Intertwined with all the mayhem is Maxine and her fated mate Jean Baptiste. These two keep ignoring the mate fact until they have to work together.
Maxi is a Pink Flamingo and if that isn't enough to make you read on, JB is a Hound Dog. Yep a bona fide Hound Dog.
This is my honest review of this book.

This story is laugh your pants of sexy with a side of drama mixed it. It is extremely well written and has amazing characters in it. It makes you wish it was longer and getting made into a movie. It is amazing list of support characters that just add to the mix. I loved Maxi and JB together. They have this banter that just blows your mind and have you laughing out loud. It is full of drama, mystery, humor, and romance. It is like getting your cake and your ice cream too. I adore Julia Mills books because they just brighten my day. If you love laughter and paranormal romances with a splash of mystery then you will love this one.

That Hound Don’t Hunt is the first book in the Maidens of Mayhem series. Maxi is back home, taking over her father’s job, avoiding one specific hound dog, when her best friend comes to her with a problem. She’s being stalked and doesn’t know who else to turn to, which rubs JB the wrong way, seeing as how he’s a detective and all. Between settling into old friendships, danger, and avoiding fate, will this sassy flamingo and hound dog solve the case, keep their friends safe, and accept love?

Wow, this book might be short, but it was chopped full of sass, friendship, and giggles. Maxi and JB are constantly circling around each other while they try their best to save their friends from a crazy villain. Maxi was bold, a natural leader, she had a whole lot on her plate, but always did her best to give her friends her love and support. I loved her sass, but her mouth could get her in trouble, too! We didn’t get too much of JB, but what we saw was that he was dedicated to his job and to his mate. Protecting others was what he was born to do. Their chemistry sizzled when they were together, and it either exploded into sassy conversations or a steamy connection. I loved that this group of friends were dedicated to one another, that no matter the danger, they had each other’s backs. I wish this book was a little bit longer, though, just for some more character and relationship development. All in all, a good, fast-paced, quick read that left me excited for the next in the series!

What a hysterically fantabulous story Julia Mills has given us again. Maxine Monroe is a Psychiatrist and a Flamingo Shifter, her friends - Edna, a Bald Eagle Shifter - Coleen, a Crow Shifter - Monique, a Mockingbird Shifter and lastly, Maxine's best friend Olivia a.k.a. Livvie, who is a Burrowing Owl Shifter (the last one in the US) and getting deathly threats from someone. They are all going to try to find out who is responsible. In comes the handsome & sexy Detective Jean St. Sabin (a.k.a. JB), a Hound Dog Shifter, who wants to do the investigation but agrees to let the ladies help. JB has been in love with Maxine for a long time and was just waiting for the right time to let her know. Hmm, what will Maxine think about it-she only remembers a skinny kid with thick glasses who used to pull her braids, not this handsome hunk!
The hijinks and chaos of these loveable and quirky characters is hilarious. Highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what they will be up to next!!

Maidens of Mayhem has all the hallmarks of being a fun, exciting new series.

Maxine is a flamingo shifter who uses her psychiatric education on humans rather than her fellow shifters. But after the sudden death of her father, she has inherited...well an insane asylum is the best word LOL!

After being home for a short time she finds herself wrapped up in the mystery of who is stalking her best friend. Add in one sex on a stick hound dog shifter Sheriff and a mating she is trying to avoid and you have a wonderful fun read. With Maxine and her flock of friends (think the Pink Ladies from Grease!) on the hunt for mysteries, the town will never be the same!

Southern Shifter Sass

I really enjoyed this first book from Julia Mills to fall under the Magic and Mayhem banner, though I'd like to have seen more of the set up of the clinic for shifters with mental health issues - I suspect a lot more will be dealt with as the series continues.
Maxine is a flamingo shifter who's just taken over the institute after her Dad dies.
Her BFF Livvie is an owl shifter with an evil buzzards stalker.
The Maidens of Mayhem along with Hound Dog Jean Baptiste have to investigate though Max just wants to eat the hound detective.
It was good fun, lots of sass and the romance was sexy but if have liked more.

Well Julia sure knows how to get a laugh out of someone! This book had me in stitches from the first chapter, and the characters are just that, characters! Dr. Max Monroe is headed back to the swamp after her dad passes away, only to come face to face with Jean Baptiste, her pigtail pulling, coke bottle glasses wearing one and only! However now, he is a Detective for the Tallullu Parish Sheriffs Dept. Together with all of Max's friends, they need to solve the mystery behind threats to her friend Olivia. Get ready for some of the strangest conversations you will ever be privy to, lets see if you can decipher the crazy! I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read!

Just like all of Julia Mills books, I loved it! I love how her women are strong, sassy, and dramatic. Both of the characters in this book go back to childhood, but I love how they butt heads and how when they accepted what they were, they didn't hold back. I love how she was determined to find out who and why her friends were being hurt and harassed and wasn't willing to take it lying down. Great funny read and definitely recommend reading any book this author rights!

Entertaining and fast paced

As the first in a new series, it was really entertaining and creative, and definitely pulled my interest in to read the next one! As usual, Ms Mills wrote some creative and interesting characters that were as funny as they were unusual. My only gripe is that it was a bit hard to decipher due to the style of speech (though that fit right in with the characters).

That Bound Don't Hunt

Maxine is a flamingo/doctor shifter. Her personality is awesome. She goes back to the swamp when her daddy got eaten by one of his pterodactyl shifter patients. Then all the magic and mayhem begins. Julia Mills, who is the author, has a way with words and descriptions that are beyond funny, they are hysterical. Her sassy characters are so entertaining and fun to read about. Loved it!!

Um, something wasn't right

The story was ok. My issue was the plot or maybe a lot of pages were missing. One minute she was on the phone in NY, the next she's running after a parrot operating her dad's business. Then later Livvie is telling her tale then Maxi is running for the door before the plot line ends. This continues throughout the whole book.I'm hoping the actual book had download issues because I found this irrating. I won't be buying any more.

Fantastic fun!

I’ve been a long time fan of author Julia Mills and this series will definitely not disappoint! This first book in the Maidens of Mayhem series is a blast! Maxine is a force to be reckoned with. J.B. is a hound dog with a heart of gold and the badge to match. When these two get together, feathers will fly. And when they each try to help a friend, the crazy gets really fun. Needless to say, I will absolutely devour the rest of the books in this series.

Laugh out loud funny!

Y'all I was laughing so hard I gave myself the hiccups. Laughter, mayhem, and a little sexy time made this the perfect read. I absolutley loved the snappy dialogue. I am no longer allowed to read Julia Mills books while my husband is sleeping. I just can't control myself.

Too thick with over the top attempt at humor.

My Momma taught me about masks. Some people wear too much makeup or wear too many pounds. But no matter what they do. They will eventually show you who they really are. This book reminds me of just that. The writer used too many attempts with southern linguistic humor. Too the point of a flat stuttering joke of a book.

It's funny, but there is no romance. It was like an after thought. Some times the language is hard to understand and follow. Its the equivalent of a short loud giggle that you forgot why you laughed 10 mins later. Not worth 3 bucks in my opinion.
