I was very kindly sent a copy of this book from the publishers to feature on my Bookstagram account.
This is such a unique and inventive book! it's such a magical baking book and is full to the brim of beautiful photography and stories to accompany the delicious recipes. So much thought and effort has clearly gone into putting this book together and it really shows! , this is such a brilliant book and would be pride of place on any kitchen cook book shelf , or just on any bookshelf!
From the beautiful glittery cover and title writing , to it's many gorgeous photographed bakes, this is such a wonderful collection. I really loved the theme running all the way through, and how the recipes are sorted into fairytale sections.
I found the recipes very easy to follow and very well explained, i made the Baked Raspberry cheesecake which was delicious!
This is for sure a book i will keep going back to time and time again.
A beautiful volume full of tales as well as recipes, but I found it hard to follow the thread of inspiration and there were too many chocolate recipes for my liking.
Despite the enticing cover and promising subject matter, this did not hit the spot. Yes, there are fairytales (4 of them, and refreshingly not all common ones), and yes there are recipes, but that's about it. There was no narrative - story or otherwise - connecting the fairytales to the recipes. The author is kind enough to include both metric and US measurements, but flips back and forth within each recipe which comes first. That's less an actual problem and more a peeve while trying to bake. All in all, not the best literary inspired cookbook I've come across.
Maybe I’m in a mood but I expected the fairytales to be connected to the recipes and they’re not. The cookbook highlights 1 of 5 classic fairytales at the beginning of each chapter and then shares various desserts not connected in anyway to the fairytale. Maybe the recipes are great. The pictures are certainly gorgeous. Problem is, if the chapter is about Snow White then I expect recipes like Poison Apple Strudel, or Unpoisoned Apple Strudel, or Seven Dwarfs Sachertorte, True Love’s Kiss Tartlets, the Evil Queen’s Biscotti. Without the connection to the fairytales I’m just offended.
I enjoyed reading the fairytales that were in the book, but the recipes did not seem to connect to the fairytales at all. I read a lot of themed cookbooks, and I prefer when there is some context about a recipe, especially the placement in the book. The book has lovely pictures of each recipe, but honestly none of the included recipes had me excited to get into my kitchen to start baking. Nice concept, poor execution.
I can't WAIT to create one of these featured desserts. The photographs throughout are quite stunning. Love the way this incorporates fairytale and baking - would be great for a party planner, a Pinterest-loving parent, or someone who wants to throw a fairy tale themed party for herself & her friends just for the heck of it! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
This book was so disappointing! I was hoping for time-period, story-related recipes, but the theme of the book was really, "Delicious baking can delight the senses just like a good story..." I had not read some of the fairy tales, and they were well written, however.
This was a pretty book with an awesome setup. I did not like it as an overall baking book, the recipes were too intensive. With that being said each “chapter” had a story intro and the pictures were gorgeous. Sadly I was only familiar with a couple of the fairytale stories.
The recipes are delightful to the eye. Combined with the fairy tales made this an irresistible choice. My ONLY disappointment was that the red wine cake mentioned in the introduction was not included.
The fairy tales included in the book are charming. The photography is stunning and the recipes look divine. I appreciate that the recipes are easy to understand and follow. This is a teeasure trove of deliciousness.
Schöne Rezepte, aber nichts für den Alltag. Für die meisten Rezepte sollte man etwas Zeit einplanen, ausserdem sind evtl einige Zutaten dabei, welche man nicht im gewöhnlichen Vorrat hat.
Not really sure what the recipes had to do with the fairytales provided. I liked that it gave the entire fairytale and the recipes are tasty but the through-line is lacking.
