What happens when you die? Do you simply disappear? Or does some part of you live on forever, perhaps in the hearts and minds of those who cherished you?
I, Brianne Marie Harlow, never thought much about death. Sure, I had a few close calls here and there, but the thought of actually dying at age eighteen wasn’t something I considered — does any healthy person think about death before they turn twenty?
Nevertheless, I'm trapped in a dark place and unsure how to get out of it. A powerful and familiar voice tells me to keep hanging on because my existence has a far greater purpose than I could begin to fathom. However, the clock is ticking, and I don't think I have much time left to figure things out.
When the power in the dark finally reveals itself, I discover that I'm not some average student with a few extra gifts. Not at all. What is revealed cannot be undone, which makes me question if fighting the pull to sleep forever is worth it.
The only things stopping me from letting go completely are my family, my adorable familiar, and my Notorious Four. In the depths of the darkness, I hear their voices, and in moments of despair, I can see exactly what they're going through while I wait.
For me, Semester Five is up in the air, but one thing is certain: if I get the chance to live again, there won’t be any innocence left in me. I'll be reborn into something stronger, braver, and wiser.
And I’ll take on Semester Five with everything I’ve got — because it’s time for payback.
My problem with this book is that the author is trying to change the whole plot mid-story. NONE of what happened in this book really makes sense, especially the new development with Elijah.
But, beyond all that, this series is making less and less sense as it goes on. The shadow people are all even more weird now and make even less sense.
But, I still like some of the characters. I miss the extreme innocence of the main character, because that was funny. I still like her relationship with Jax, but he doesn't seem as "cool" as he did at first. He almost seems more immature than he was when the series began.
I still give it 2.5 stars because I still want to know how it all ends eventually.
I am a little worried that other series that I have started by this author are also going to be sucked into the whole "portal" and "four to save the world" retcon plot and get messed up, too.
I only wish I could give more than five stars!!! OMG this semester is JAM packed with action!!!! Not to mention a surprise visit by none other than Silver Solange from the S.S.S. series 😁😁😁😁. We pick up where the last book left off with Bri crumpled after taking the hit by the car that the evil cow had driven into her. While in a coma let's just say she comes to learn some MAJOR things about just who and what she and her loved ones are. Everything at Witchling Academy is NOT what they believed. There's a prophecy where four chosen one's will unite. Anyone think the others might join Silver from the other series written? I refuse to spoil the massive reveals, but trust me this is the most epic of the series so far! Villains revealed, truths surface, personal growth galore and uni kitties 💖💖💖. I adore this series and now more than ever can't wait for semester six!!!!! Bring it on!
The first 2 books draw you in the 3rd and 4th were a waste of books. I feel that most of book 3 could have been cut in half and then added to book 2. Book 4 could have been reduced to a couple of chapters and started what is book 5. I get the author wants to make money and if I had actually paid for the last 3 books I would have been feeling pretty cheated. I think this could have been a great series of maybe more time was between books and more thought into the structure.
This book doesn't make sense at all, it's like the author suddenly had no idea how to go farther? No action to speak of, 80% dialogue , characters behaviour is completely flipped as if they have multiple personality, what I don't understand though is the high rating ?
Here comes Semester Five full tilt and the drama gets ramped up with this book. Prepare for some serious surprises and a nice dose of the guys as well. This book picks up where the last one left off but with a shift in perspective, too. Instead of the initial character, we are greeted by being Brianne we get the guys instead. I absolutely love this because it allows me to have the same build-up from before but from what they are seeing, thinking, and feeling. I think this is a genius move on the author's part and it kept me hooked and page-turning. There is so much going on and I love it! The guys are developing due to the stress that they are being put under by the situations that are presenting themselves, but there is more!! Now, this book series has mostly been higher YA from the beginning, but in this book...that changes. Which the author makes a point of making at the very beginning. So in case you're wondering "when are things going to begin to shift more between Bri and the guys..." this book is it. There are some serious surprises in store and as I am seriously biting my tongue on not dropping any spoilers...that's all I can say. Haha. But if you grab this book...you'll see why and you'll love it. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to what the author has in store for this series and I intend to be doing some sniffing around with a couple of others. This book does have a few slower moments, but they just add to the build-up. The truth comes out in more ways than one for us readers, but the characters get some tidbits but not the whole truth. Prepare for some serious insanity to come and yet another cliffhanger that will have you begging for the next book. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I'm loving where the author is taking this series and I love that there are more books lined up to come. Things are getting seriously intense and I can't wait to read what happens next.
No spoilers of any kind included. So all I’m going to say about Witchling Academy: Semester Five is I loved it. So it’s a big HECK YEAH I definitely do recommend this book but if you haven’t read the books before this one then I highly suggest that you do that way you don’t get confused as to what’s happening and who’s who.
Very weak storyline. Author skips over everything, merely putting in stops for some supposedly emotional moments. Skip over recovery, skip over summer, skip over relationships, completely skip over the whole semester 5.Yes,you heard me-not even a day of semester 5 in the book that is supposed to be about it.The storyline does not proceed smoothly, author constantly pull it in different directions depending on idea she had at that moment, resulting in complete loss of logic, consequences or any kind of reasoning. All characters become illogical, their previous actions become understandable and without any logic.Elijah being the most absurd development. Overall the whole book is a mess.Stupid, empty, annoying mess that does not propell forward the base story at all.Drop in confusing multiple reincarnation (multiple in the sense of several bodies in the same timeline for each character as well as multiple timelines and explained in few sentences at the end ) and you have this cringeworthy book. I don't know.In my opinion the author should have noted down at least the general directions, goals and events for whole series. Because now it looks like she have no idea where this is going and she unsuccessfully improvised as she writes. Seeing as so far this is the last book published, I suspect it ends here for me.I have lost any interest I had in the beginning and the 5 book so far was so uneventful and forgettable that by the time next installment will be out,I won't even recall ever reading them.
I can't recommend it to anyone unless I wanted to hurt them.
Wow another exciting semester for Brianne, Jax, Connor, Finnick and Kaito. Just when you think you have a handle on the direction Avery is going she up and drops a huge twist. I know I say this often about Avery's books, but I can't wait for semester six.
~REVIEW🖋~ The Quick and Dirty: Super innocent 16yo enters magic academy with the gift of spell traveling and meets several elemental shifters who end up becoming her love interests. The group has to survive trials and by book 5, discover the purpose of both the school's creation and their attendance there.
The series transitions to New Adult and the substance of the story really develops. Brianne must confront her rivals and prepare for the battle of a lifetime. Secrets about her identity and that of her guys are revealed. There are recurring themes that fans of Avery and her alternate pen name can expect: whimsy, amnesia/love interests from childhood, confidence issues that eventually turn into strength, sensitive but strong men, mild m/m themes within a RH and a female lead that starts off in a sea of self doubt that becomes a bad bitch with a protective streak a mile wide.
And **MILD SPOILER**
There is a CROSSOVER! It's from one of Avery's other series and those who follow her can likely guess but it's epic! Can't wait to see where the next few books take us in the story!
** I was provided an ARC of this book in return for a voluntary and honest review.**

SYNOPSIS (of Books 1-6): This story is set in a world where magic and non magic users all live together. The FC is a strong witch with a gift of mimicking other‘s magic and travelling to places. The Books cover the FC, Brianne, and her best friend going to Witchling Academy together and the FC meeting 4 MCs for whom she falls. The Books cover the development of the FCs relationship with the MCs and the issues she has with the resident mean girl, her best friend and being bullied. As they progress they go into the deeper reason for the existence of the Witchling Academy and the existence of Gods and Goddesses.
🌶️/🍆🍆 - there are minimal sex scenes and those that there were I found to be quite cringeworthy I‘m afraid.
The story is fine and there are not too many typos and editing issues. My main dislikes were the juvenile dialogue and the characters who came across as very young. I enjoy academy books and maybe this is just aimed at a much younger audience.
The men are passive and there‘s a lot of new man crying and male angst. I‘m afraid I like the MCs to be strong and more alpha and these 4 MCs were the opposite. The FC is portrayed as very innocent to the extent that she apparently doesn‘t know anything about sex and is completely ignorant of when people like her. Considering she is 17 to begin with that just comes across as nonsensical. With books, TV and everything else no girl can remain so ignorant of sex. The result, I found was that the FC just came across as completely unbelievable and not very bright. As examples, a group says about Elijah and Elisha “they’re going to do it” and Bri’s internal monologue has her saying “Do What? … don’t tell me they’re going to do that whole “where babies come from” thing?” (cringe); In the same scene she’s called a who%e and her internal monologue has her asking what that is and “is that similar to that slut word?” 🙄
The relationships are insta like/love with yet another FC suddenly considered the centre of the MC‘s universe simply because the author says so with no evidence given to support why. There‘s alot of emphasis on bullying and how damaging it is but the author doesn‘t really seem to do anything more than go on about bullying with at least 2 of the main characters suffering from it.
The author also seems to have a thing about twins and those twins having almost exactly the same names - what on earth is that about? There are 3 main sets of twins called Mia&Miya; Akino&Akono; and Kito&Koyo - seriously? It’s as if the author wanted them to be one dimensional and lacking individuality.
Whilst the books are well written I lost interest around Book 3 and skim read more and more before giving up at Book 6 when things just became too confusing and, for me, ridiculous when you discover the deeper meaning to Jax & Brianne and Witchling Academy.
This is it. The transition from your adult to new adult. The action that we have been waiting for has finally happened. However, I’m looking forward involving the other guys.
Semester 5 is finally here. I freaking just New that there would be a crossover from her other series which is still currently under her other pen name but I know that she plans to eventually changed it. During my last review regarding that particular series, I mentioned about crossover from her other series but I wasn’t sure who were involved. There are 3 more female main characters involved as the two has been revealed. So there would be a total of 5.
A big event has happened in this book and not only with what Brianne has learned. I think I was more shock regarding Connor. I totally did not see that coming. Avery you just blew my mind. I’m begging you that I need to see an action with Brianne in between with either couple. My inner fangirl is bursting just thinking about it.
So back to the most important part. Brianne is part of an even bigger prophecy and I can’t really say the details because even I’m a bit confused on that part especially with Elijah talking about something quite important that even up to now my brain hasn’t fully processed yet. I think need a more detailed explanation especially with time travelling and reincarnation being involved. Makes things a bit more messy but interesting at the same time. The plot thickens I tell you.
I had an inkling about the Park twins and that they are very aware of what is currently happening. I’m so looking forward to their story.
Just one more month till the next book and I can’t wait.
I have mixed opinions about this series. In the beginning, I was drawn in by the MC and her relationship with the other characters. The books talk a lot about mental health and 'finding your path' and I think this is genuinely nice in a kids' series. However, at some point you have to question why your book on witches and wizards in school doesn't feature any incidents at said school.
Imagine if Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix were written in a way such that 3/4ths of the book was concerned with the events before Harry reaches Hogwarts and then the book just ignored an entire year's worth of school hijinks to fast forward to Harry rushing to the ministry of magic. You'd feel cheated right? Well, that is literally what happens in this book. I had noticed this creeping in slowly with books 3 and 4, but with this book, it has gone off the rails. Add to this the literal Deus-ex-machina that resolves the tension in most of the series's action events and we have a problem.
The author loves to take time to slowly and carefully iron out each of the emotional problems plaguing the characters and their relationships. This is something I really like about the series and is one if its' main strengths. However, when this is not paired with a proper action sequence or fight scene that has consequences and requires the MCs to struggle and fight, the book comes off feeling hollow. If the characters are not seriously challenged soon, I feel the series will just peter out to a forgettable ending with little tension.
OMG! OMG! OMG! This book is the best so far in the series. Not only do we get more perspective this time from both Jax and Connor but we also get a lot more backstory.
This book picks up just before the end of the last one. The biggest difference is this time we get the perspective of both Jax and Connor. We then get an awesome crossover with SSS, which just thrilled this reader, and the story develops into understanding more of what's happening. This book also ends in a slight cliffhanger so we're definitely looking for the next book to fully explain some things.
I am giving this book five stars because I feel it was amazing even though it left me with some questions, particularly ones I know that will be answered in the next book. I highly recommend this series and really feel you should read it as well as the other series that she writes. If you really want to understand this you should read the SSS series, The Hive Tracker series, and the Blazing series that is about to start. These books will, I feel, be intertwined and I'm just loving it. Can't wait for the next one.

Suffering Succotash , this book has everything you ever might want/need in a book..and so much more! You will definitely need to have a huge amount of spare time to dedicate to this wonderful world and a nice glass of wine for
the hot times that are awaiting you!
Brianne Harlow has gone through so many ups and downs in her time at Witchling Academy and the more she learns, the more she realizes that everything that she thought she knew, is only half of the real picture.
With hair raising moments of tears and laughter, I could literally not wait to start a re read of this book, due to all the new information that it contains. With cameo appearances by some of my favorite characters from Avery’s other books, this book literally kicked it up 100 notches into the stratosphere of epicness!
What are you waiting for....hurry and buy your copy today! You won’t be disappointed and you will love all where this amazing story is headed!
Shocks, Surprises & Steam!!😳🙈🔥 4.5 Stars 🌟 Witchling Academy: Semester Five (Spell Traveller Chronicles Book 5) (Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Blimey, this book was one surprising shock after another. I'm still not completely sure what's going on, but I truly can't wait for the next book so that the remaining mysteries can be unravelled!!😍🌟
Each of our five main characters come to a decision that they individually need to achieve something during their summer break. It looks like Jax may need to work on something extra hard!!😳💥
This was a completely gripping read. I was so happy that the relationships are finally moving into more adult realms too.🔥💘 I'm so hopeful book #6 keeps going in this vein of explosive storyline & progression in all of the relationships!!💥💘
I really love this series, I’ve loved it since the very start! This one did not disappoint! I love the character development of Bri over the series, she’s seriously turning into one tough cookie! This book is actually a little different in that there’s more mystery to it, can’t say more than that without giving anything away, but there are twists and turns that are going to keep your nose glued to the pages and at the edge of you seat! Something also different is the writing perspective from Jax and Connor. I love the extra thoughts we get from them and how it adds to the story. ALSO: spoiler!!!!! There is a crossover with SSS in this!!! We haven’t had that happen in Avery Song book’s yet! So make sure you’ve read SSS so you know what’s going on!
The author is ruining this series. Book four and five focuses so little on the school experience and instead focuses on the emotional trauma of growth in one of two characters in the breaks before the school term starts.
The worst part of book five is.. SPOILER... Brianna has sex. I was thoroughly enjoying the fact that this series wasn't using sex scenes and specifically made the main character innocent and a little naive. I understand that she has to grow but I was hoping we would get the idea that the characters enjoyed a night of love making; not read about it. I actually feel dirty. I skipped as many pages as I could when I realized what was happening.
Avery Song has done it again! Our amazing powerful group of Badassery has exceeded another trial! The transition from innocent to adult thinking has been a fluid and relatable transition and is written perfectly. Our main character has grown up so much over the course of the books but especially has shedded her naïveté in this semester. I love the twist and suspense! There were so many moments I was confused and shocked and scared. I love the switch over that happened in the beginning of the book! I am so pissed that I didn’t see the similarities between the two series! But that was clever! I can’t wait to read semester six and figure out what’s going on with our girl and her amazing guys! The discovering of sexuality and crushes were awesome! Avery Song you rock!
I can’t sing enough compliments to this series. Each book turns the story in a direction I never see coming. Except the prophecy part, that I nailed. This book is a mark showing how much the characters are grown and they are getting more powerful and wise, and of course the story is getting hot. A lot of surprises awaits you about Bri and Jax’s background, the real purpose os Witchling Academy, about the power to change your destiny and about what they really are. The line in the sand is being drawn, where do you stand? Light or darkness? Could a balance exist? Let’s find out as we continue to read this incredible story.
I think this fifth book is the best of this series so far! Every page seemed to be a new adventure. The crazy twists and turns were out of left field but very welcomed. I tried to only read a bit of it, but it was way too good to not finish in one sitting! And then that cliffhanger!...
I will say that the only thing I am still slightly confused about was the whole Elijah being innocent in the bridge incident because that ending really seams to contradict itself. Don't know, either way I loved every second of this book! Can't wait to get my hands on the next book! Jax and Bri, as well as the rest of the group, will be coming back harder than ever before! This was so worth the read!
It feels like we're finally getting somewhere with this book 🙂 a lot more seems to happen in this one, which I like, however not a lot seems to be explained after it happens?
Things seem to happen with no explanation? Like what the hell is going on with Elijah aha?
I still don't understand how it's going to work with the guys with them liking each other AND Brianne?
I understand now that this series connects with S.S.S: Supernatural Spy Academys' world, so bad guys aka The Dark Kingdom, which is cool as I was wondering who the other girls were going to be. So does this mean each girl has their own series? If so cool lol.

This book was amazing. As usual Avery song is a book genius. Just when you think yo I have an idea what’s going on bam! She hits ya with something you didn’t see coming. Keeps ya on your toes. While it answered some questions it also gave some more that need explained. I can’t wait until the next book and that fact that it’s now NA -yay!- we get to see them grow even stronger together. I didn’t see this coming twist coming and I love it. Should’ve know she had something like this up her sleeve. Can’t wait for the next book.
Semester 5 is the transition from YA to NA and that warning at the beginning had me so excited!! This semester is so full of answers, romance, heartbreak, and adventure. Every chapter gave you new little treat of information as we finally start to understand what the heck is going on. With a surprising appearance of another beloved character, and an ending that was as thrilling as it was nerve wracking, Semester 5 was a giant step toward the end of the basics and the beginning of a world changing arc. It was fantastic!
I didn’t think this series could top it self, but it did. Bri has grown up so much from the first books and now she is showing her badass more and more. There is a crossover from another series in this one, and as i don’t want to spil anything all i will say is wow! Where semester four was more focused on mental health, semester five was focused on growth. There was a lot of new info, i am so excited to see where the characters and story is moving towards now. I cannot recomend this series enough. I have a feeling i will be devouring book 6 in one sitting and I can’t wait!!!
I truly loved that stories are combining and based on the hints given there are either more stories/series coming together or brand new ones are going to come from this!!! I don’t know but I will definitely say I cannot wait!! It has moments were I felt cheated with the jump forward. A character rant kind gave insight through but maybe that just means the next book will have more details! Will say I cannot wait until everyone has reached their full potential and the stories that go with showing how they got the potential.
This series is still just as great as the rest. All five books in two days and I am completely hooked on this series so much. I really enjoy every character in this book and love how they all get along and trust each other without question and are fiercely protective of each other and the ones they care about. This one picks up right where book four left off. There a tons of questions they have and with some answered. I love how at times something they do or say just makes me laugh especially with all the things they are going through.
ANNND i'm done with this series i think. This author writes books set in school but fr some reason doesn't EVER write about actaully being in school or going to classes or learning about powers which is literally THE POINT of being in school. 80% of this book is character interaction and set up for something that WE DIDN'T EVEN READ HAPPEN BECAUSE THE AUTHOR THOUGHT SHOVING SOMETHING WITH NO SET UP OR HINTS AT ALL INTO THE STORY AT THE LAST MINUTE WOULD BE BETTER THEN SHOWING THE RESULT OF THE ACTUAL SET UP!!!!!! 2/10 that's it i am done with this author and this series, at least for now
This series just keeps getting better and better with each book that comes out!!! That cameo though was everything. I so can’t wait to see what come of that in the future. You Avery Song are an amazing individual and I love you and your counterpart! You guys write amazing books and I’m never disappointed when I pick one of them up. Can’t wait to keep reading more and more from you.
Holy heathens!! Still loving Bri and the boys--they seem to be not only growing up but growing closer together. I laughed and cried (sometimes at the same time) thruout this book and still wanted more when I got to the end. They are learning that not everything is as it seems and it's going to take a lot of work to figure out what is truth and what isn't. I loved the crossover and hope to see more! All in all, I loved this book and am eagerly awaiting the next one.
Brianne and the Notorious four return for Semester 5. She was hit by a car at the end of book 4. Can they save her? What is the new magic they all seem to have? The prophecy is revealed. Each of Avery's Witchling books continue from where the prior book left off. The Trial in book 5 is the worst one yet . Join light or dark side is what Brianne and Jax must choose. The wrong choice and the world ends.
