Aide-de-camp (ADC) of the then King Birendra Shah, Sundar Pratap Rana, has for the first time come forth with his account of one of the darkest days in the country’s history — the royal massacre that happened 18 years ago. His experience of that day and his relationship with the royal family have been brought together in a book that will soon be available to the readers.
So much of emotions, so much of information and so much of questions! A must-read! I had a hard time keeping down the book at the first and last part as it gives an overview of the royal massacre. I am very thankful to the author for sharing his 17 years of experience with the Royal family. I'm sure he had a hard time reminiscing his precious moments with His Majesty, especially the six minutes drive to Chhauni Army Hospital from the Narayanhiti palace after the massacre.
While starting to read this novel, I wanted to know what happened that night (Jestha 19). That was my sole purpose for picking up this book — I expected clarification about ADC Rana. But after the novel ended, I was moved. What I realized was that whatever happened that night didn't matter at all. What happened was an unpleasant accident.
I believe this book filled the gap between the life of the durbar and the common man. It forces the reader to introspect the very nature of life itself. What I realized is that we are all characters in a story. No matter who you are, characters change — but the story keeps going. If that gap had been fulfilled before, many conflicts could have been avoided.
My humble condolences to King Birendra and his family. Rest in peace. You will live in the heart of every Nepali..
Very useful book to know about the history of royal family and events around royal massacre. I miss King Birendra very much. He was real patriot and good king. But unfortunately he had tragic end. Written in very simple language and easy read. Recommended for every Nepali..
