I read Matsunaga-san when I want a pick me up, when I want to read about silly goings-on between teens/twenty-somethings and that's exactly what I got <3
This second volume continues directly on from the first where the cliffhanger confession left me wanting MORE dammit! We see Meeko and Matsunaga-san getting close on several occasions (eeeee) - I'm thinking of the hair cutting scene in particular *tugs collar*, and there is also an unexpected visit from Meeko's mom!
I know there are some concerns about the 10 year age gap between Meeko and Matsunaga-san but I really am rooting for them! Their 'relationship' isn't portrayed in a creepy, uncomfortable or distasteful way, and the way they interact with each other always makes me swoon so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Meeko's 'unrequited' love is returned!!
Ah, this series leaves me feeling all warm and happy and hopeful. All I have is love for these characters. Long may it continue! <3
It's official: our heroine Miko is a 17-year old high school student, and her love interest Jun is a 27-year-old professional publishing designer. And I immediately have to wonder if the English translator or editors adjusted her age up to marginally cut into the creepiness factor. Anyone know what the ages were in the original Japanese version?
That aside, the volume is rather slow, with lots of yearning, some fireworks by the river, a visit from mom, and a group date for Miko with some actual high school boys. Nice clean art at least.
I'm shocked at how fast I blazed through this volume! I mean, I read this is an HOUR! :o
I don't even think I've read a manga quite THAT fast!
It was very sweet and very fast though! Lots of new developments in this one that had me excited for the romance, but also wondering how "sweet" Matsunaga can be. LOL! (He definitely can be broody. LOL!)
I absolutely loved how everyone rallied behind Miko! That was one of my favorite chapters in this volume because it shows how quickly they have all become friends. <3
And that cliff hanger of an ending! :p I wish my library had the manga because I would love to know what happens next!
Let me be honest here: I don’t like Matsunaga, and I don’t see how his relationship with the heroine, having a ten-year age gap, is viable. I just don’t care for how this story is going, especially since Matsunaga seems to want control over the heroine’s every move. SIGH. It’s just not for me, folks. But the art is so cute...
💕1st read April 2020 : 4 stars 💕2nd read February 2024 : 5 stars
It was very sweet and very fast though! Lots of new developments in this volume that had me excited for the romance, but also wondering how sweet Matsunaga can be. delightful.🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🦋
Lol scoot over Meeko. I'm also in love with Matsunaga-san.
This feels like a very basic shoujo with outlandish situations and Matsunaga always seems to find ways to appear shirtless. Meeko is an adorable awkward blushing mess and Matsunaga is a grumpy protective cutie. I like that the other housemates are more involved in this volume. I find them to be an interesting cast of characters and I hope we can get even more from them in the future. I especially like the sister relationship Asako and Meeko are forming and I hope there are more situations with the two of them.
I'm still pretty torn about this series, but I have to say this was a cute second volume. While Matsunaga kind of bothers me with how short tempered he is (seriously, bro needs to chill the fuck out) he is a very kind and caring person as well as a good friend. I also love how quick he is to take action when helping others and how over the top he is. Miko's slowly growing on me, but spending the first, what, two-three chapters with her thinking about her feelings for Matsunaga? Yeah, that old got old really fast, I'm glad other situations came up to give readers a break from that.
The biggest issue I have with this volume is that one of my biggest pet peeves in romance manga, jealous behavior. Miko is going to a matchmaking party (I think that's what it's called?) and Matsunaga snaps out on her because he's clearly jealous. He ends up looking for her and even helps her when she loses something, but it's obvious that he was looking for her because he wasn't happy with her going to this party. First and foremost, HE IS NOT HER BOYFRIEND. If they were dating then yes, I could see the problem, but they aren't. If he's not in a relationship with her, then he needs to BACK THE FUCK UP and act like a responsible fucking adult. Granted, it wasn't as bad in this volume than other series (Say I Love You, anyone?) but it bothers me that it is 2020 and we're STILL seeing this bullshit trope.
Anyway, I am enjoying this series and will read the next volume, but I stand by my previous assessment that this is a nice, fluffly rom-com and that's about it. Nothing bad, just nothing special.
Such a good second volume! I am growing more obsessed with this story and the characters. Meeko continues to be so adorable and relatable. Her interactions with everyone else who lives in the boarding house really make this manga shine. I can't help but be drawn to the relationship between Meeko and Matsunaga. It's really sweet and I can't wait to see what happens between them. I need volume 3!
Age gap romance is a sub genre of shojo I've seemingly fallen into. The cover art drew my eye because it's similar to Waiting for Spring, which is adorable and sweet, and honestly, this series carries those same vibes. Everything is heartfelt and the feelings between the characters seem thought out and ring true. The boarders look out for each other and act like a big family. I love the elements of humor that catch me off guard and make me laugh out loud, and I love Matsunaga-san's affinity for wandering about shirtless. 🤤 The bonus story from the cat's perspective is cute, too.
¿A qué me refiero?
The art continues to be really good in this series. The characters are fun and Miko has some great interactions with some of her roommates. Matsunaga is inconsistent in how he acts and the direction of the series is really leaning towards them getting involved. I hope that all the other characters get to have their moments too as those have been really enjoyable. Also, the bonus chapter with the cat was quite charming.
I’m really not cool with the ten year age gap of her being 17 and him 27. It’s squicky for me. Would be better if he was the college aged guy. Not my cup, but if it’s yours, no shade. 3, I can’t get over that age gap, stars.
