MELT's reign of terror continues unabated as friend and foe alike bow to its unyielding influence. Hope shines on the horizon - but it is distant, faint, and marred by darkness.
A new, intensely thrilling series, MELT has received unanimous praise from beta readers and early reviewers alike. Written by JJ Pike and Mike Kraus, MELT examines a part of our world that we often take for granted. Add in a dash of real science and a glimpse of what the future might hold in store and you're presented with the recipe for MELT: a frighteningly real post-apocalyptic thriller.
MELT is a novel-length series will be released on a monthly basis.
Oh boy! Down to 3 stars this "epidode". I'm so very tired of the mental conversations with each character.
Agatha "talks" to each of her parents mentally, but not really. It's just constant echoes of their past teachings. She's upbraided and congratulated, depending. She doesn't really talk to anyone else, ever. Only when she's pushing to get her way. I'm not saying she's spoiled and tantrums, just that she only opens her mouth to argue her way is the best way. Otherwise she constantly, mentally, critiques everyone around her.
Paul is constantly mentally talking to his sister, Petra. In their toddler speak (eyeroll), Latin, or you know, regular English. I'm not really sure WHY he was in this book. He doesn't DO anything. He's constantly foggy, falling asleep, trying to focus, etc. He was a totally useless cog in the machine. When he's not foggy and unfocused he's emotionally unstable. His "feelings". He talks about his feelings constantly. He's more girly than all 3 of his sisters combined. Emo, he's very emo!
Petra doesn't do anything either. Aggie is constantly trying to get her on board to get stuff done.
Betsy and Mimi, the "grandmothers" of story only argue against common sense.
Oh, and let's not forget Widget and Goobz. These guys are radio people. Not a station, but a prepper site. I'm not sure why we have chapters and chapters of these guys. They mostly are just filler, so the authors can TELL us what's happening in the world, rather than showing us. And we also have an anonymous caller "Ella" who is slyly and frustratingly feeding them bits of info (facepalm).
Thank goodness this is KU, and I didn't buy it.

The situation with MELT is just getting worse. An addition to this book in the series, though, is a radio guy announcing what is really going on, doing interviews, taking calls and so forth. It's a really good way to cover material that could otherwise take more time and maybe be boring.
It makes reference to Executive Order 10995 which is real, by the way. Otherwise, there's a rebellion in the camp, Hedwig kills a thug, there's more thieves and more really nasty people and MELT shows itself at the home. The series is, I think, fairly realistic as far as it shows just how nasty a lot of people will become if put into this type of situation. The characters are still interesting and the basic plot is interesting enough to see where everything goes from here.
Unfortunately, this book returned to the internal soliloquies found in prior books, but not in book 5 (which was nice). I'm not a fan of that mechanism as it drags on and substitutes these phantom conversations for actual dialogue and plot. The twin telepathy is just lame. Also not too fond of the odd pair that are doing the radio broadcasts. There is some decent story revealed but hard to spot it in the inane and silly presentation. And there is now another survival group who feels entitled to steal from other groups and kidnap their kids? Makes MELT not seem so bad. Having made it this far, I intend to finish the series, but hope this really improves in the final books. After Book 5 which was a good book, this was a big letdown.
A JJP/MK. SYFY. Action Adventure (P) (MB.- 6) (ATPASS)
JJP/MK. have penned a SYFY action adventure novel, which begins with the bad news that keeps getting worse. The life ending virus has just about run its course and the deaths are in the hundred millions. Those that still live will be scarred externally and internally for years to come. That is a living situation. However, the nuclear plants are failing and when they do radiation and radiation poisoning is released. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I’m still enjoying the series however this book is entirely in the heads of the characters. Agatha has her mother and father talking to her, Paul has Petra and his mother. I don’t recall the previous books being like this. Add in the radio show and I found myself skimming the pages to get to more action. Sorry guys, this one didn’t do it for me, but that won’t stop me from reading the next book in the series.
Purge is an intense installment in the apocalyptic thriller Melt series. Many of the characters have become favorites of mine and Purge shows some dealing with tragic and/or desperate situations. I am anxiously awaiting book 7 to discover what happens next. I highly recommend the entire series.
The twists and turns that you have written are amazing. Glad you have not written out the survivors as yet. Paul is going to have to keep going. Thank you for the suspense and can't wait to see how you will continue the suspense.
This book has plenty of action and mystery. The characters are rather odd and there is a lot of pages devoted to their inner thought process. Imagine reading the mind of a sixteen year old girl.
Melt series just keeps you wanting more. I have told you that the characters are great, the story line is intriguing and thrilling. It never fails to make you want to read more.
Really like this series but I was a distracted by the voices in everyone's head I felt it was a bit too much at times and distracted me from the really great imaginative story.
I keep reading because I like these characters and the storyline just seems to get more convoluted . It frustrates me that I can't figure it out. That makes the series a bit in my book!
The writing team of JJ and Mike is amazing. The MELT series is hands down my favorite! The MELT tragedy continues to spread while the full cast of characters interact in ever-deepening ways. Never a dull moment. Now on to Book 7!
Love this series and these characters (as I keep saying). This might be my favorite yet as there were several twists I DID NOT see coming, not one bit.
