Planes, Trains, & Broken Strings: The Laughable but True Story of an Impoverished Indie-Musician Traveling the World

Rate this book
After losing his job, girlfriend, and life as he knew it all within two short months, Tom Edwards decided it was time to live out his lifelong dream and travel the world. After turning to his guitar for income and selling most of his worldly possessions, he set out—along with two friends—with big dreams and grandeur visions of adventures.

Shortly thereafter when the group realized they had nowhere near enough money to support their journey, they found themselves sleeping under bridges, hitchhiking with drug dealers, befriending prostitutes, living as homeless persons, hopping trains, and finding all kinds of other trouble to get into. On top of everything else, when tensions arise between the three companions, Edwards wonders if he’ll be forced to go on alone.

Follow the hilarious tale of travel-gone-wrong, debauchery, and adventure in Planes, Trains, and Broken Strings, as a broke indie-musician tries to find his place in the world with the help of a cast of colorful characters he meets along the way.

Great

It took me a bit to get into it but once I did it turned out to be a great story. All the bad luck that came their way if their trip would have been easy , then there probably wouldn't have been a book. It's a must read book for anyone looking to go traveling like they did sleeping where ever you could find a safe spot and enjoy life-long the way.

So much for lock down in Liverpool....I've been backpacking with Tom, Corey and Aaron. Fantastic read. Feel the ups with laugh out loud moments. And then the true despair. I felt tired and hungry in some chapters. One of those rare books that you feel bereft to have finished. That somehow you've lost a couple of friends.

Hilarious!

The book was very enjoyable to read, especially if you appreciate good humor and artistically used swear words. Tom does a great job of articulating both the beauty of the countries he and his partners traveled through and the situations they found themselves in along the way (some great and others not so great, all made for good laughs and a great read though!). Highly recommended!

Pengalaman yang sungguh memikat dan nampaknya Tom memang belum terlalu memahami kultur lokasi yang akan dia tuju sehingga beberapa kali mengalami culture shock. Brave move though, salut!

I'm a musician and full time traveler, so I related to a lot of aspects of this book. I can't say that I would want to travel in the style or manner that he did but it was a fun read. He writes as if you're sitting at a campfire telling stories so it's very accessible. He's definitely the kind of guy that I could hang out with.
