Wow, what a fabulous edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller this was. It's been a long time since Netta has released a book but it was well worth the wait.

Lizzie is hired by Miriam to look after her brother, Charlie, a footballing legend, who is sedated 24 hours a day in end of life care and then Miriam goes off travelling. Lizzie slips up with Charlie's medication and he wakes up. This is where the book really takes off, well that and when a girl's body is discovered at the bottom of the garden.

Twist and turns galore with this one and the ending... well, I didn't see that coming at all. No intentional red herrings which infuriate the reader, just a great all round mystery.

A fabulous read, Netta never fails to deliver gripping thrillers. Highly recommended.

Lizzi Yates is the home nurse assigned to tend to Charlie Maidley, a man with a brain tumor and not expected to live long. Unknown to Lizzie, his doctors have agreed to let his sister take him home as long as he is fully sedated at all times. His sister is hiding a secret from the world .... because of his tumor, he is dangerously violent with a history of assaulting women.

When Lizzi forgets his medication one time, Charlie awakens, is lucid and she wonders why they have him in an induced coma during his final days. Taking it upon herself, she makes the call to not medicate him any further. With his sister overseas, Lizzi makes the decision.

But later on, when a young woman's body is found at the bottom of her garden, she wonders if she has made the right decision, after all.

This one takes creepy to a new level. Charlie seems just fine, but is he really? Is Lizzie next on his list? There's Nigel ... the neighbor from hell. He takes a dislike to Lizzie when she tells him off .... he likes to watch her and she's had enough. The thing that man does .... gives me the willies. Then there is Phil, her neighbor, a widow with two children. There's an attraction, but he may be harboring secrets of his own.

It was a little show starting for me.. but when it started moving, it moved at a pace guaranteed to keep you hooked on the story until the unforgettable ending.

Many thanks to the author / Special Arc Group (FB) for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Wow, a fantastic thriller with a big twist at the end!! You Can NOT decide who the killer is, and the person arrested Will blow your mind!! Another story by an incredible author that will keep you turning pages and holding your breath as you meet an array of different, strange and interesting characters as a nurse, Lizzie, is staying in a home taking care of a brain tumor patient who is kept deeply sedated. The man is an ex champion football player, and no one must know that he is there...
Lizzie wonders why this man is so sedated, one night she falls asleep without administering his meds, but in the morning he is pleasant and without pain..Quite a situation for a nurse to be in! She cuts his meds down slightly, and enjoys her time with the man. Then a body is found in their back creek, the neighborhood is on edge and Some one is Not what they seem to be!!
There are several weird neighbors to choose from...or has the Past returned?! Could Lizzie be next..
A psychological thriller that will keep Your head spinning until the smashing end!!!

Rage by bestselling author Netta Newbound is an intense, nail-biting psychological thriller; I admit that I had no idea what to expect as the writer was new to me, so I was pleasantly surprised. It revolves around a pretty unique premise. When Lizzi Yates is called in to nurse renowned footballing superstar Charlie Maidley through palliative care she has no idea how complicated agreeing to care for him effectively incognito is about to bring. He is allowed to go home to die, the place most of us would choose to pass, however, Lizzi disagrees with the doctor's adamance that he must remain comatose due to his history of assaulting women as a result of his brain tumour. She, therefore, decides to let the sedatives wear off and allow him to be fully conscious again. But was she right to do so or does she now have blood on her hands?

This turned to be such an original and well-constructed twist-fest and turning the pages was a pleasure and not a chore. I've been having a little bit of a hard time focusing on books and reviews of late due to poor health, but this has reignited my passion for tense fiction. Hooking you in from the very beginning, not only are you taken on a thrilling ride with the characters but also an emotional one too. The book draws attention to the timely and relevant issues of the social care crisis/end-of-life care and reminded me that doctors have far too much power over the lives of those they don't even know. Rage is a thriller that snakes its way along delivering surprises right and left and a whole heap of mystery thrown in for good measure. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Sarah Hardy for an ARC.

I am a huge fan of this authors books and have been dying to read this since it was published. Netta Newbound is an author who never fails to deliver a well and truly electrifying read!

Right from the off there is something a bit off with the whole arrangement that Lizzie finds herself in. Miriam certainly isn’t an overly likeable character and I wanted to scream at Lizzie to run for the hills. Things are about to take a darker and even stranger turn when Miriam goes away leaving Lizzie and her patient alone.

I loved Phil and his daughter Kate. There isn’t a vast amount of characters in this book of which you would think it would make things easier as to who the killer is. Well it doesn’t. I kept swapping my mind and hoping for all it was worth that it wasn’t a couple of different characters as I liked them to much. It really keeps you on your toes as you wait for everything to unravel.

Rage is an absolute page turner of a read that will consume you. I read it in two sittings only putting it down to go to sleep. The author is a mastermind at shocking revelations that had me on edge through out as I knew they would be there somewhere, just not when or how. Another cracker of a read by the author and an absolute must read for fans of dark, twisted psychological thrillers.

Plot

Lizzie yates, a nurse is offered a job in palliative care, like home help\suuport. The patient Charlie Maidley, an ex famous football player, has an incurable brain tumour and is sedated. Everything is going okay until things don't make sense for Lizzie, First, she accidentally forgot to give Charlie his medication which keeps him sedated and pain-free. But to Lizzie, he seems perfectly fine, not violent, nasty and starts wondering why he is being sedated etc? Then a school teacher, Erin goes missing and night Charlie Sister's dog finds a body...

This is dark and intense. Also has a few heart-warming moments entwined. This is a such a fantastic quick read with actions and twists at every corner, even when you think you know, you absolutely don't. This is such an epic, exceptional thriller and is definitely up there with the best of the best.

Netta newfound is a new to me, author, she sure as hell won't be a new author after reading this book. Another must-buy author on my list.

Characters

All the characters are fantastic and unique in their own right, Nigel has to be my favourite because the author really has put in the CREEP factor with this guy, whereby I literally felt goosebumps, like someone walking over your grave, feel sick to your stomach kinda feeling, totally bad vibes.

Lizzie and Kates relationship throughout the entire books is so beautiful.

Writing Style

No nonsense and no fillers. Just good writing and storytelling and which quickly draws you in, like heroin you become addicted.

Pacing

Quick, refreshing and perfectly paced.

Cover

It's dark, creeping and frightening just like the story inside.

Mini-Review.

I've actually loved every book that I've read by Netta Newbound. Rage was no exception. I'm not sure whether to rate it a thriller or mystery/suspense. Perhaps it should be all three.

I particularly love a book that keeps me guessing all the way to the end. This one does that. The story revolves around Lizzie although there are many characters to get to know. Hired to take care of a patient who is dying and must be constantly sedated Lizzie has a lot of time to think--and forgetting to give him his medication one night opens up some serious questions she has
to ask herself. If her employer finds out she'll be fired, but her patient deserves the opportunity to live just a little before he dies, doesn't he?

Add a handsome widower who lives next door, his adorable daughter, Kate, and who doesn't love a curious puppy--until he discovers a dead body near the garden. Who killed the young teacher? Could Charlie have done this on one of the nights she didn't sedate him? And what is Phil hiding and why does he seem so guilty?

You'll have to read it for yourself to find out. A definite five star read for mystery lovers. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent psychological suspense thriller!!

I was completely gripped by the story and even though I did guess part of the plot, there were still quite a few unexpected twists that I enjoyed and the ending was perfect!!

I really enjoyed the way that the different character’s personalities developed as the book progressed. They were well-rounded and I think the author nailed them, I really liked some, hated others and a few I was a little indifferent too and that made for such a good book as I found myself completely emotionally involved with the story!

The author has an excellent writing style and I thought the book had an excellent flow to it.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, I thought it was an addictive read and I will definitely be looking out for more of her books in the future, this one was excellent – it is a fabulous read!!

This was an absolute fun read. A light suspense story with moments of intense thrill. I loved the way the author allowed my pulse rate to come down before making it shoot up. Oooh my heart did get a good workout.

Lizzie, a nurse, is hired my Miriam to keep her brother Charlie sedated all the time 24*7. Apparently, he had a brain tumor and was in intense pain, prone to violent attacks. One evening, Lizzie forgot the meds, and Charlie woke up. She found him to be pain free and sane enough. Taking an independent call, she decreased his dosage. A woman was found strangled down the garden the same night. Was it Charlie? Had Lizzie made the biggest mistake of her life?

My first book by Netta Newbound, and with such a beginning, I knew it was going to be quite exciting. So I decided to don my Detective hat. Was the patient faking it, the doc in me asked the question. I needed to know the truth. Armed with my magnifying glass (I just increased the size of the font on kindle😂), I looked at all the characters with suspicion.

The neighbor Ben with his links to the dead woman, the gross neighbor Nigel across the street with no respect for women, Charlie, who was supposedly sedated but wasn't, with his tendency to batter women, or Lizzie herself who appeared to be a bit too friendly with Ben. Was she in with him? Netta's easy to read way of writing got all these questions wrapped up in my mind. I could feel my brain cells zinging to and fro trying to eliminate each suspect.

But the author one upped on me, every time I laid a suspect to rest, she wrote something which made me doubt them again. I kept going in circles. Then the author brought in another abusive murder. What the freak!! I hadn't solved the first one yet. The characters were seriously unlikable to me now.

Then the book raced on to the finale which was explosive. I had a slight inkling of the identity of the perp by the process of elimination, and the murder mystery was ultimately solved. Did I not tell you good cardiac workout?!!

A breakfast read, I had galores of fun reading this book. Got to read the rest of her books. A talented writer, for sure.

Reading this book has reminded me that I really should read more of this author's books. I've only read one of her back catalogue - An Impossible Dilemma - and I remember really enjoying it (although I am now a bit scared of a certain animal) and I can't help but wonder why I haven't read any others. I will endeavour to rectify this heinous error of judgement as I also really enjoyed this one.
Lizzie Yates is a nurse who has been recruited by Miriam to provide end of life care to her brother, Charlie Maidley, former footballer and all time legend. There are a couple of conditions to this appointment. One, she keeps his identity a secret, and two, she abides by his medication routine which pretty much keeps him unconscious all the time. Quite early on, Miriam goes away leaving Lizzie alone with Charlie. She's a bit bored so makes friends with the little girl who lives next door who is in love with Miriam's dog and, through her, gets to know the whole family. One night Lizzie forgets Charlies medication and he wakes up. She is shocked and surprised at how lucid he is and start to question the ethics of keeping him under and decides to allow him to wake up. But then a body is found and fingers of suspicion start to point at the neighbours. But was Charlie also awake that night? Was there a reason he was being kept sedated? Is she in danger - and, if so, from whom?
This was a wonderful book that actually pulled the wool over my eyes pretty much every step of the way. Yes, OK I thought I had it worked out, and it was looking quite good for a while there but - oh my days - she only went and pulled the rug out from under my feet at the eleventh hour and I was so wrong! Right about something - but nah - she done me good and proper there! No mean feat considering I eat, sleep and breathe this genre book.
Characterisation was good and there was just the right amount of suspects to keep me guessing without getting overloaded. The final reveal also had me reeling and gasping in shock but, at the same time, kicking myself cos, yes, there were clues along the way. The author just did a cracking job on me with her diversionary tactics that were so cleverly worked into the narrative that I had to applaud rather than feel duped or cheated.
All in all, a cracking read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm off to add a bunch more of the author's books to my bulging TBR - help!

Netta Newbound has a new fan in me! I was instantly drawn into this story and the characters, and I stayed up rather late finishing reading. I had a theory on every person in the book, but Netta Newbound always found a way to throw me off and make me question my thoughts. That takes an incredibly talented author.

The characters are so well written. I found each one was unique and I loved that no one really seemed trustworthy. It just always felt like whoever I was reading about was a suspect and then BOOM, just kidding.

Loved this plot. I also really loved the finale. It wasn’t rushed, but I was flying through the end. When the reveal happened, I was completely thrown off. I had imagined the murder mystery being solved in many ways, but I loved this ending.

I highly recommend checking out Rage. It’s definitely worth the 5 stars, and it’s in the running for my top favorite books of the year! Don’t miss out!

Lizzie is hired by Miriam to be a palliative nurse to her brother, ex footballer, Charlie. Next door lives widower Phil with his two children, Ben and Catherine (Kate). When Lizzie forgets Charlie’s medications, she starts to wonder why he has been sedated permanently, what possible reason could there be? Erin, a local school teacher has gone missing, the police have no clues. Neville, the bus driver seems creepy but is he? Plenty going on in the street and nobody knows what’s going on in each other’s houses.
A brilliant psychological thriller from Netta Newbound. I could not put this book down, I was so determined to find out who knew what! Well written and great characters. I would highly recommend this book

If there’s one thing that this Ginger Book Geek likes, it’s discovering new authors. Netta Newbound is a new author for me. Having just finished reading her latest book called ‘Rage’, I am actually cross with myself for having left it this long to read some of her work. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Rage’ but more about that in a bit.
One of the main characters in this book is a lady called Lizzi. Lizzi is a qualified nurse, who is hired to look after somebody called Charlie, who is terminally ill with a brain tumour. Her client isn’t hard to care for but his sister is another story. His sister sounds like a nightmare. Lizzi hasn’t been caring for him for that long but the longer she is there, the more concerned she becomes about all the medication that Charlie is being force fed. Lizzi seems to be a kind, caring, sensitive, compassionate and determined nurse, who does her best for her patients. Lizzi starts to get to know the neighbours and each one set little alarm bells ringing for me. There was one neighbour who particularly gave me the heebee jeebies but I won’t tell you who it is because I would hate to give too much away. Not everybody in that particular cul-de-sac is as nice as they at first appear and there are lots of secrets to come tumbling out of the closet, which could prove dangerous for Lizzi.
Oh my flipping goodness, ‘Rage’ is one hell of a book that blew me away. I just can’t get over how much I enjoyed this book. It didn’t take me long at all to get into this story and I soon became addicted to reading the book. I just knew that I would have to cancel my plans for the rest of the day and focus solely on the book and on the book alone. For me, ‘Rage’ was unputdownable. It wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it went everywhere with me. Part of me enjoyed discovering what Lizzi’s neighbours were really like and learning about the skeletons that some of them were desperately trying to keep hidden in the closet. I guess that I am a nosy parker at heart. I soon got to the end of the story, which I was so disappointed about. I wasn’t disappointed with how the story ended, but I was enjoying the author’s writing style, the characters and the storylines so much that I just wanted the book to continue.
‘Rage’ is brilliantly written. Parts of the book are written from the point of view of Lizzi and other parts of the book are written from the point of view of the other characters. The chapters interlink really well and the story flows seamlessly as a result. The author has a way of grabbing your interest and keeping it throughout the book. I was certainly gripped by the story and on the edge of my seat throughout. Netta certainly knows how to ensure that the reader keeps turning the pages with lots of twists, turns, shocks and surprises awaiting the reader over every page. ‘Rage’ is certainly one of those books that kept me guessing. I smugly thought that I had worked out who the killer was, only to later realise that I had got the wrong end of the stick again. I love the way in which Netta has written about how appearances can be deceptive. People present one face in public, but behind closed doors it’s a whole different story. I love the way she has perfectly captured the atmosphere of a nosy neighbourhood. I ended drawing parallels between the neighbourhood in the book and the neighbourhood in which I live.
Reading ‘Rage’ was like being on the scariest and most unpredictable rollercoaster ride you could possibly imagine. There were more twists and turns to the story than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board. If you want to read a book that messes with your mind, gets your adrenaline pumping, your heart rate soaring and sends your blood pressure through the roof, then ‘Rage’ is the book for you. Believe me you will not regret picking up this book.
In short, ‘Rage’ has to be one of my top 5 reads of 2019 so far. The quality of the writing blew me away and the storylines certainly kept me on my toes. I will definitely recommend this book to other readers. I can’t wait to read what come next from Netta Newbound. Here’s hoping that we don’t have too long to wait. Whilst I wait I will definitely be catching up with Netta’s other books. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

This was a great book to read, had me totally hooked right from the start. It was a very descriptive writing style so you felt like you were there but it was easy to keep reading, especially when the body was found!

Lizzie was a nurse and she had been assigned to look after Charlie Maidley, he was one of Britain’s footballing legends and Miriam was his sister. He has a brain tumor and was in an induced coma under the instructions of his doctors when they allowed Miriam to bring him home and he had to remain in it until he died. Unfortunately, this wasn’t communicated to Lizzie when Miriam went on a business trip and Lizzie fell asleep, missing one lot of Charlie’s meds. The next morning, he was awake and was wandering around the house, a bit of a shock for Lizzie but she found it was nice having someone to talk too for a few hours.

She then started to wonder why Charlie was being so heavily medicated and after some careful thinking, decides to reduce his meds and wakes him, keeping a careful eye on him and at the first sign of trouble she could increase them again. However, not long after this, she finds the young body of a girl in the creek at the bottom of the garden which implicates her neighbour, Phil, who she really likes. Nigel across the road is really creepy, could he have had something to do with it?

A truly excellent read, I really enjoyed it. There was some tension, sitting on the edge of your seat and biting of the nails! 5 out of 5 stars from me. Will be looking for books from this author to read.

My best friend raves about this author's books; to my shame I've never read Netta Newbound's work before but now that I have I'm wondering how I let her novels slip through my fingers!

Nurse Lizzi takes on the job of private nurse to Charlie, currently living with his sister. Lizzi is completely unaware that her patient is kept sedated due to having a history of abusing women due to his brain tumour and when he regains consciousness accidentally and appears to be fine, she reduces his medication allowing him be awake on a more permanent basis. Then a woman's body is found at the bottom of the garden and Lizzi is worried about whether she has done the right thing - or not?

Such an easy read, due to the skilled writing and clever plotting, I just raced through this one. It's a very hard book to put down! It's beautifully structured, drawing the reader into the story and I felt an affinity with the characters very quickly. There is always something going on, questions popping up and the answers following. A rather awesome read, and one which has added me as a firm fan of this author's work. I'm delighted to have another on my tbr, looking forward to reading it already! There is no way I worked out what would happen in the end; in all honesty the ongoing events consumed me to a level where thinking about it never even crossed my mind. A spectacular novel, and as such fully worthy of five sparkling stars!

Before I start reading a Netta Newbound book I take a deep breath and ready myself for what is to come. Normally that involves getting to know characters who feel so real, that you get to know and care about and who get put through horrible things. The death count in Newbound’s books are normally also high.

Rage starts with doctors telling a woman that a man needs to be kept highly sedated for the rest of his life as he is such a risk to women. We learn that this man, Charles, is a very famous ex-footballer whose condition needs to be kept secret.

Lizzie is hired to nurse Charles, she has strict instructions to keep him sedated at all times and believing that he is in so much pain due to a brain tumour, she agrees. But it doesn’t quite sit right with her and so when she’s left alone with Charles she starts to wonder whether it is really fair to keep him so medicated.

Poor Lizzie really has a lot going on in this book, there are bodies turning up, creepy neighbours, a lovely neighbour and a patient who is very dangerous. I often kept reading, desperate to see what was going to happen next. would Lizzie meet a grizzly end because of the neighbour? The patient? Or someone else?

Although there was a lot going on it was easy to keep track of it all and the story definitely kept me hooked. It was different from other books by the author that I have read, but I really enjoyed reading it and was disappointed when I had finished it. All in all the sign of a great book!

This is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning. Lizzie Yates is a Nurse who is employed to give end of life care to Charlie Maidley, a footballing legend, as he has a brain tumour . His sister Miriam arranged with his doctor for him to be nursed at home, he is in an induced coma as the tumour causes him to be aggressive to women. Miriam has to go abroad on business and Lizzie is given strict instructions not to allow him to wake up. Due to a mishap with his medication he wakes and Lizzie is left questioning why he is being permanently sedated. When a girl’s body is found behind the house on waste land the whole story takes a sinister turn. This is a brilliant novel and I didn’t want to put down. I do not want to give anything away, but if you like thrillers you will love this novel. Would make a great holiday read, sat by the pool or on the beach absolute bliss.

Yes, like all of Netta's books, I gobbled this up like it was covered in chocolate. Another who done it from this amazing storyteller. Bummer, I finished it yesterday. Yes, it's one of those books that leaves you wanting more!

Who could have done this horrible deed? Keeps you guessing. Phill? Charlie? Or that nasty piece of work across the street. Please don't let it be Phill or Charlie!

One must remember this takes place in the UK and for us Yanks, sometimes it takes a little thinking regarding their jargon. Don't let that detour you from reading this wonderful thriller. As it is where ever you live, the local dialect seems natural to you. I live in Georgia, USA, and I could write a whole book on the things we say here.

Mrs. Newbound, I'm patiently waiting for your next book. Please don't make us wait too long. In the meantime, I'm off for a cuppa!

An absolutely amazing book, it had me hooked from the beginning. This is a real page turner and you find yourself wondering what is going to happen next. Lizzi is hired to look after Charlie who is in end of life care. His med are suppose to keep him knocked out. However due to a slip up she finds him awake one day and this plays as he seemed totally normal. After meeting the family next door more mysteries keep popping up. I'm not going to give anything away so if you want to learn the secrets and their are many you will need to pick up a copy of this amazing book. Just when you think you may know all the answers another mystery comes along. I highly recommend this book I was really sad when I read the last page I didn't want to see it end.

What a brilliant book!!! Miriam Maidley employs Lizzi as a nurse to care for her comatose brother, Charlie. She is told he must always be kept sedated. In error, Lizzi fails to administer Charlie’s medication one day - the outcome of this error is the start of this tale of twists and turns.

It kept me enthralled and I could not put it down. Netta Newbound has excelled herself with this fantastic thriller and I highly recommend it.

What a captivating story. It took me by surprise, all the way through.

I loved the characters, apart from two, for different reasons.
Of course, I liked the nurse. What a difficult job she had taken on.

And of course, I liked the sound of the houses, in the upmarket area, until......

Full of twist and turns. Loved this story and it would be great if the story continued.

It's quite a while since I've read one of this author's books but she never disappoints.
Wow. Starts off slowly and builds up to a great crescendo. I just couldn't put this one down. The characters in this book really come alive from Miriam to Lizzi,Charlie and Phil. I look forward to more of her books.

WOW. This is an edge of your seat, nail biting story. I was engrossed from beginning to end. Lizzi, a nurse, is hired by Charlie's sister to keep him sedated at all times, if he wakes up it will be very dangerous. Lizzi forgets to administer his medication and he wakes up!!!!! What will happen!!!!! A brilliant plot with lots of twists and turns.
