Why Men are Suspicious of Yoga: And Other Very, Very Funny Stories

Rate this book
“...Jump in for a series of fine escapes from the pickles that life, at present, delivers. This is one fine attitude adjustment resource!” Grady Harp.

This book has been revised. There are seven additional essays. The author thought that all the essays in the first edition were funny. He has found out that most agreed, but certainly not everyone. Robert believes that there is nothing more subjective than humor!

The now deliberately “Not So Funny” stories

“Against All Odds” about two incredibly brave men. They faced the battlefield of life and won. By doing so, they changed America for the better.“The Car Ride.” Although he was only five years old, this presents an experience Robert will never forget.“Paul’s Special Birthday” is a story about one of Robert’s older siblings. Paul was one of the many unsung heroes of the “Greatest Generation”.“Learning How to Just Watch” reflects Robert’s response to one of life’s most difficult moments. He'd appreciate hearing your reaction to this piece. “Father’s Day with My Mother-in-Law” and “Daddy’s Little Girls” are additions to the Family section. Robert hopes you will enjoy reading them as much as he enjoyed writing them.“Two Writers Meet, One Speaks” witnesses the magic that allows writers to recognize each other, even without any visible clues. There is more about Robert’s family in his new book, Wham Bam! NYC in the Roaring Sixties. Watch your fingers. That book is hot!!

Name : Why Men are Suspicious of Yoga
Author : Robert 'robear' Isenberg
Genre : Humorous short stories

My 💭 :

First of all guys, I am SO damn proud of myself for reading so many interesting non fiction books this year! I think I am reading non fiction after 10 or 11 years!

Okay, so I chose this book only because of my fascination for the book title. The first thought I had after reading the phrase "Why Men are suspicious of Yoga" is that this must be a funny conspiracy theory book with full of humorous anecdotes. And I was partially right!

This book is filled with many short stories that will make you go like "hey something similar to this happened to me too!". The narrator relays all his stories in a manner that almost seems like he is talking to his close friends. We, readers, do have a very close knit relationship with the author while the reading a book and in this case, I, as a reader, felt like the author and I are having a good laugh about telling our lives' stories.

Some of the stories were very painful, like witnessing your family members die from diseases at a very ripe age while you have to stand helplessly. We human beings, are wired in such a brilliant way that when life gets too heavy for us, then we suddenly start taking everything humourously. Like some sort of defence mechanism, as therapists would say. So, in this book, it is the funny sad stories that touched me the most.

Lastly, coming to the story with the book title, what IS it with men and their definitions of 'correct masculine things'? I speak on behalf of the entire women race when I say this: nothing puts us off than when men try to SHOW that they are men in everything. We will always choose understanding and caring men with whom we can share our daily life. In this story, the guys are always saying no to yoga and all self-care things because it's not an common acceptable masculine thing to do. But when you say gym, everyone will line up. How come? Why is there a line drawn between men and women things to do? Guys, we are humans first, men and women comes later. Let's not divide the small pleasures of life over a fictional gender battle.

All in all, this book was very interesting to read and quite different from my normal reads!

🧘🏻Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing. A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road

🧘🏻 Good humor is a tonic for mind and body. It is the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment.

🧘🏻 Well for the book in focus today I can say the same, "Why Men are Suspicious of Yoga" offers a wide variety of humour. It's a collection 61 stories which are composed into 7 section which individually represents an aspect of life. Some funny and some not so funny.

📌 Its one of the those books which you just pick up and has everything for everyone. It's different for every person, whichever story suits your level of sense of humour and will feel relatable to you the most.

📌 The writing style is casual and simple, which will most probably would feel like having a normal conversation in your everyday life. I personally enjoyed reading it and liked the casual and candid conversation with family and friends, and their relativity.

📌So it's a treat for all those with a good sense of humour and If you're one of them, then this might be a good fit for your bookshelf.

Do you like reading short stories?

Well, they are my favourite. They always put me in a better space when it comes to reading and this book by Robert Isenberg is no less than an exciting ride full of surprises. I was intrigued by the title of the book and was curious to know the not-so-funny stories.

Easy and relatable, with a pinch of humour, Robert weaves interesting tales capturing insights of daily lives making readers think about the ordinary moments that are sometimes extraordinary. Short, crisp and fascinating, that's how the stories are. Each story is brilliantly narrated giving us a different perspective. While some stories will make us laugh, some will make us feel content. What I loved most was the way he described the situations. With a candid and captivating writing style, he takes readers on an exciting journey altogether, with fun settings. The title of each story captured my attention, they are too interesting.

Each story is a masterpiece in its own way. The funny and not-so-funny stories are insightful, especially ‘Father's Day with mother-in-law’. That story stayed with me. ‘Food Voyeur’, ‘Life of the Party’, and ‘The next time someone tells me they're a witch, I'll believe it’ are a few stories I enjoyed reading the most.

In all, it's a light, fun and refreshing read that you can count on if you want to read something light and fun.

Robert Isenberg brings in this book a collection of short stories, almost all from his life, a parcel of laughter and humour. In this revised edition of the book, he has added seven new essays, most of which are ‘not so funny’, including The Car Ride, Against All Odds, among others.
The book is divided into seven themes, showcasing stories and essays around the said themes. A lot of the book is essentially Isenberg making fun of himself or being made fun of, which in my opinion is exactly what humour is: being comfortable in making fun of themselves.
The writing is concise, and light-hearted; well, for the most part. The stories that are ‘not so funny’ are not completely sad but they make you ponder on a lot. Especially The Car Ride, this story was very well written accommodating a wave of emotions that made me put down the book for a while after I read it.
Isenberg also comments on politics, sports, and seems to have a fun time in general pointing out things we don’t feel comfortable enough to do. The addition of Mr. Fridge was peculiar to me, yes, but an enjoyable one.
If you are looking for a collection of stories to help you get out of your reading slump, Why Men are Suspicious of Yoga by Robert “robear” Isenberg is a book I would definitely suggest.

Robert Isenberg's collection of fifty-five short pieces, "Why Men Are Suspicious of Yoga," is a lighthearted and invigorating read that will make you smile. Isenberg addresses a wide range of subjects in his lighthearted manner, including international leaders, pets that have attitude, and even his own confusion.

I think a lot of the events and situations that Isenberg describes will strike a chord with readers, enabling them to fully enjoy the humor and laugh at the experiences that are shared. I believe that "robear" possesses a true talent for storytelling, skillfully incorporating comedy into his stories. Every chapter is humorous, whether it's about a silly pet interaction or a hilarious miscommunication in a personal connection.

The way in which Isenberg describes his unending confusion about comprehending the opposite gender—as demonstrated by his wife, daughters, and granddaughter—is one of the book's highlights.

Isenberg made a funny comment about learning more about fast food and beds while watching football, and I couldn't agree more. It was a very amusing observation.

Why Men Are Suspicious of Yoga" is a really fun book that provides a break from the daily grind due to Isenberg's gift for writing and ability to find humor in everyday situations.

Why Men Are Suspicious Of Yoga - Some Funny Stories & Some Not So Funny by Robert "Robear" Isenberg is a book of humourous tales, anecdotes, essays, and stories.
While reading this book I felt like I was in a direct conversation with the author. All the short stories were so relatable. This book was a perfect blend of human emotions along with humour and wit. The title was so intriguing, I was expecting it to be a funny book but the book was much more based on the raw and pure emotions. Stories show the hard times and grief parts. The book cover was eye-catching and beautifully illustrated. The language was not so easy and it was suitable for intermediate or pro readers. However, I found this book interesting. Such books are a gem. These not-so-funny,  heart-touching stories will Stay with you forever. The book shows the absurdities of human life. The Author recollected all his lifetime experiences, Emotions and humour in this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I would love to read another book by the Author shortly.

When a book is narrated in a comical, humorous and satirical way there's one thing guaranteed lots of underlying anecdotes and entertainment with a pinch of commentary on social topics.

'Why men are suspicious of yoga' is captures all the above things and more. A well-crafted and beautifully narrated book that makes a light-hearted commentary based on funny theories.

While the book makes you smile and at times laugh, what really grabs the readers attention is the way author narrates the story acknowledging the audience one on one.

The author address various topics talking about personal life, politics, culture.

It feels like a human library where the author is narrating his life events with added humor twist.

Overall this short story collection is a commentary on the absurdities of life in a subtle satirical manner.

I loved reading this book as it felt fresh, light, and intriguing!

This book is unique in its way. The author Robert Isneberg, who is syndicated locally has written this huge collection of articles.

Isenberg, who occasionally goes by the moniker "Robear," injects a healthy dose of irreverence into his collection of 61 brief essays covering common subjects such as stereotypes of New York, the excess of advertising, issues with air travel, and the distinctions between men and women and the disputes they lead to. Aside from the dad jokes and Dave Barry-esque humour, there are unexpected absurdist flourishes like the author's peculiar assistance, a talking, judgmental robot refrigerator that likes hats, and Isenberg's fictional wife, Dana (his real wife, Esther, also occasionally appears). The book begins with the unplanned weekend funeral for a mother who hasn't passed away being an annoyance.
This book is an easy light read and will surely tickle your funny bones.
I had a great time reading this hilarious and humorous book, and I am sure you will too.

The Book of the New Age! People will love this book as much as they love yoga!

The mention of this book pertaining to yoga is about his experience from his wife’s yoga class and why it felt odd for him and maybe even for most men. At the end of it all, his storytelling about that experience will make anyone laugh and understand the very nature of men when it comes to understanding the profound experience of doing yoga. You’ll see what I mean as you get to read Chapter 16!

In addition, this book also tells us about some of his experiences in his life growing up, meeting his wife Dana, having children, and being a writer. Most of it is “stuff” we all can connect to, most especially with his parents and siblings, however, it is told in a funny, witty and insightful way.

Read it and enjoy!

Exceptional because of the way it influences people and the way they think and feel. I loved Robert's writing and the way he puts a smile and laughter in people’s hearts. This is a wonderful and captivating book because of its humor and wit and there will be a lot of people who will enjoy reading his story.

This is perfect for your loved ones! I gave this book as a present to my mom. She and my dad loved it and they thought it was funny.

The humor behind the differences in men and women, men’s perspective about yoga, and Rob’s mischief growing up are some of the stuff that the readers will love and find the most humor in. But wait, there’s actually more! You will read other “fun stuff” from this book that will make you reconsider your own thoughts about the ordinary things and yet actually remarkable things in life.

Filled with anecdotes that leave us if not laughing then surely giggling or smiling is a simpler way to summarise this joyride of a book.
The book consists of several short stories and newly added seven essays (Two Writers Meet, One Speaks, is undoubtedly my favourite of the lot) that are filled with instances Robert experienced throughout his life, some that will surely leave you asking for more.
Reading this book at times felt like actually being present in the moment, I felt like I was a part of Sir Isenberg's life and if not, I had definitely stolen his personal diary.
Its one of those books that can be gifted to an older friend or colleague so that they smile remembering you.
Introducing us to several individuals from his life, Robert ensures that at no point the line between funny and insulting crosses boundaries.
A definite one time read .

Of meeting famous people, of doing yoga, and of sharing his life experience. Robert Isenberg nails it!

There were so many parts of the book that will make you rethink your own life experience and your own insights about mundane things. Mundane and ordinary things such as smiling, hugging, and then there’s about being a TV addict. Some of the important stuff was shared too and this was about him meeting Dana, his wife, spending time with his family, and meeting famous celebrities. In all of those mundane and important aspects of his life, he never failed to share the fun, spirited, and wise insights.

This is a book I highly recommend for all! This book is an easy read and you will find every chapter enjoyable! Not a bore at all!

Witty, enticing, and just an easy and enjoyable read altogether! Loved it and I’m sure most people will too!

Men and their way of looking at things, especially yoga will be the core essence of this book. It got me thinking about my own husband trying out yoga and what might come off of it. For Robert, it was all about seeing the spiritual and yet odd ways of yoga. He found out that it had so much to do with getting in touch with your body which for him and maybe a huge population of men will never be able to understand.

If you are a wife and if you have a husband who shares his humor, gift this book to him! He will find that in most areas of Robert’s life, he can connect to it and he will surely enjoy it!

A good read!

I read this book because of the catchy cover. Moreover, when I started to get through to it I realized that it’s not only catchy, it’s also interesting, funny, and delightful!

Robert shared so many fun, insightful and extraordinary life experiences that most people will find relatable. If you have a partner, share this with them and laugh together.

This is a book I will recommend to all people! Young, old, and in between. This book will work for everyone because it’s a perspective of a man finding humor in all aspects of his life. We too can connect to him and find that some parts of his life are just like ours, especially the ones we share with our friends and family.

A great read, for sure!

So many fun parts of the book that I want to share with my wife. I read this because my buddy Sean recommended this book to me. He said that this is funny and that it will crack me up big time! My buddy Sean was right. I got my wife to read it and he said, Robert is quite a guy and that Rob is somewhat like me. :P Also, this book got me thinking about football and its controversies. In addition to that are “mundane stuff” such as advertising on TV, the things I and my wife do, and my relationship with my brothers. Rob has a way with his storytelling that will attract a lot of people and let them see the humor in things!

This is a good book to read for enjoyment and relaxation! Highly recommended!

Such a fascinating read. Funny, witty, and enjoyable!

Loved this. Anyone reading it will surely find it interesting and engaging as well.

I loved reading about the short stories of some Chapters of his life. He always knew how to inject humor in all of it!

The emotional connection from story-telling is what most writers would do, but Robert brought it up the notch by sharing the fun side of his life, not the drama and dread of our life experience. And, I liked it! He did it in a fun and enjoyable way of connecting with the readers, which is great!

If you like reading about real-life stories with light-heartedness and humor in it, then this one’s for you.

One of the most uniquely written stories because of the funny and smart way of sharing his life with people.

Rob used a lot of creative ways to share his story and I believe it's genius!

I think that it’s just like a stand-up comedian using a book to share his humor. In addition, his thoughts and insights are also quite relatable to a lot of men, and in particular, these insights can be found from his day-to-day interaction with his family, his wife, children, and his life as an individual.

I can’t get enough of this book and I genuinely hope for more books from the author!

Get this book, share it with your husband, your boyfriend, or just simply for yourself, and relish the fun and happiness that his life sharing will cause you to feel.

It’s a great experience! Reading this book will make anyone laugh hard and smile from his silly way of relating his life experience to the readers!

One of the funniest tell-tales he shared was about pillows and how it’s advertised on TV. He had shared that these commercials seem to convey that it’s such a wonderful product and that if it doesn’t work properly, then you can return it. But then he shared, why would a pillow not even work properly? Ha! And so, he got them!

This Chapter along with all of the rest is truly witty and fun to read! Anyone reading it will find joy and will surely recommend this book to their friends and the whole family!

Robert is very witty! He is able to share his experiences in a way that will make people see the fun side of it all! Part of what he shared was his experience with women and what he did as a young adolescent to get their attention. In connection to that, he had also shared this story about his next-door neighbor, a mechanic, whom he soon found to have hooked up with one of the ladies he had some fantasies of, growing up. This along with his life experience of being a man and being a father was truly enjoyable to read and anyone who will read this book will surely find the joy of it too!

Read this book if you want to crack up and enjoy your “me time” with a fun book!
