Hand Over My Heart Duet #1

Under a Different Sky

Rate this book
My life is a mess.

I'm walking around with a black eye. My position on the hockey team is questionable at best, and if that’s not bad enough, I think I'm falling for my dead girlfriend's best friend.

Every day, it's a fight to feel alive, and yet, I drink to numb the pain. Everyone is standing back, watching me fall apart.

Everyone except Hannah. No matter how many times I push, she's there to pull me back. She refuses to let me spiral any deeper. And after one kiss—she’s impossible to ignore.

Unfortunately, it seems she and I aren’t the only thing being kept a secret.

I absolutely loved this book and read it within a couple of hours and couldn't put it down, this was my first time reading from this author and have to say I'm already reading her other books.
I had so many emotions with this book and have to say I loved the characters it switches from Hannah's POV to Nick's, I loved them together throughout the story and can't wait for to read more of there story.
It's a story of love loss and heartache and so much more than a simple love story, the author really made me feel the book and their emotions, It took me on ride an amazing ride

OH. MY. GAWD! This book... Where do I even begin? Under A Different Sky is so much more than just a simple love story. It's a story of loss and heartache. It's a story of strength and never giving up. It's a story of finding yourself again after the darkness tries to take over. It is a story that will tug at your heart strings from the very beginning.

I absolutely loved Nick and Hannah! The chemistry and pull these two have is extraordinary. They both struggled internally with their feelings, but each in their own way. Nick lost his first true love and doesn't know how to live without her. He doesn't know how to let her go and how to move on. The raw emotion in him as he struggles was absolutely heartbreaking to see. And Hannah, she lost her best friend in the world. On top of that, she made some promises to Mia that she wants to keep, but is struggling to uphold.

Watching Nick and Hannah together was a beautiful sight to see. The happiness they found in each other while trying to heal was absolutely magical. They were two halves of a whole who completed each other in every way. They had they type of love that every girl longs for when growing up. But their journey wasn't an easy one. There were lots of bumps and bruises along the way.

Under A Different Sky was such an emotional trip. The writing was phenomenal. The author didn't just make me feel the book. She made me live it, experience it and breathe it. I loved each and every swoon-worthy, heart fluttering, heartbreaking, painful and devastating moment. It gave me all of the feels and I couldn't possible ask for more. This story is one that will touch everyone's life and take you on the most amazing ride. This book deserves all the stars and more.

New Adult/Young Adult | Forbidden | Emotional Romance

Under a Different Sky was a book I bought based solely on the gorgeous cover. There's just something eye catching about it and the minute I had a second I tucked right in and started reading. While I did have a few minor problems with the story, I think my overall enjoyment outweighed them tremendously and I'm excited to see what happens between Nick and Hannah in the next one.

About the Book:
This is the first book in the Hand Over My Heart duet. As with all duets, the books must be read in order. I waited to read this one until the next book released because I wasn't in the mood for another cliffhanger and the wait to see what happens. If you do the same, you will be happy to know the second book is live and you can find it here WAITING FOR THE SUN.

This is a new adult forbidden romance duet. The characters are actually in high school but I consider them to be more NA than YA because they are a little older (I believe 17 or 18). Also, there's sex and sexual language, drinking, etc. Anyway, the book starts off with the hero saying goodbye to his girlfriend who died of cancer. This is sad of course, but were quickly forwarded to a point in his life a few months later. During this time, the best friend of his dead girlfriend becomes a huge part of his life. She is there for him when he's sad (which is pretty much throughout the entire book) and she helps him when he's in trouble (getting into fights, getting wasted, etc.). As the two get closer romantic feelings between the two start unraveling and well, you can guess what happens from there. The problem is though that they are keeping their relationship a secret because they feel guilty actually being together. So when they get CAUGHT at the end of this one things get... sticky. And some secrets that were being kept come to light and make the situation even worse. That's where it ends and in the second book we should be getting all the answers we need along with seeing what happens with their relationship.

Sounds like a pretty good book, right? I think many readers will agree that it all makes for an intriguing storyline.

WHAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK
▶ I love forbidden romances and while I didn't realize that was what this book actually WAS I found myself really happy with the forbidden aspects of their relationship. Dead Girlfriends best friend? JUICY!

▶ I liked the pace of the story. Books that are emotionally heavy sometimes tend to drag in areas but that isn't the case for this book. I appreciated the time it took for the hero to grieve and find himself (sort of anyway) before messing with Hannah (she's the DG best friend).

SOME MINOR ISSUES FULLY EXPLAINED
▶ I was pretty annoyed at the temper tantrums the hero was throwing. I mean, I get that your upset that you lost your girlfriend and I totally understand acting out because you don't have any other way to release your anger. But it happened SO MUCH in this book that he came off as childish and it looked as if her were throwing tantrums. Now, some may disagree and say this is a normal part of the grieving process which is FINE, but at the moment of reading Nick sort of annoyed me with it. I wanted to think of him as a strong hero and seeing SO MUCH weakness made me cringe a little. On the other hand it was fairly realistic as everyone grieves differently. I suppose I;ll see how I feel about it in the next one.

▶ The girlfriend who passed away was such a large part of the story because everyone was grieving her but we never got any real glimpses to WHO she was and WHY she played such a huge role in everyone's lives. There's small tidbits here and there about her but it FELT like the author just threw her death in for the sake of adding something to the story. She never became a real character to me and I would have really liked to have known about her. Perhaps in the next book we'll get a little more insight into why she was so important to Nick? We shall see!

▶ This is supposed to be an emotional read but I never felt sad when reading it. I think this may be because the girlfriend who passed was nothing more than a thought (see above) and I wasn't able to grieve her with the characters- that would have allowed me to build connections to them.

WRAPPING IT UP
Overall, this is a good, solid story and I do look forward to reading the conclusion to Nick and Hannah's story. There may have been a few issues that I got nit picky on here in my review but when I went back and really THOUGHT about the book I can understand why it was written the way it is. I;m excited to discover many more books by Lindsey Iler!

I’m so conflicted.

On one hand I absolutely loved this book and on another I hated it.

" You happened out of nowhere, and I realized I can still feel the way I did. All was not lost when she died. The stars still shine up there, and the Earth still spins, and that’s because of you. We’re just under a different sky, Hannah. ”

When I read the blurb for this I was so intrigued so I bought it without reading any reviews. At 30% I found myself so caught up in the story and I honestly haven’t read a book that I liked for the year so I was really excited.
I absolutely fell in love with Hannah, she’s feisty as hell, has a very dirty mouth and a take life by the balls attitude.
Nick is not my favorite hero but I was still able to connect with him and I did enjoy his character.

This story is about Nick and Hannah developing feelings for each other while grieving the death of their best friend/girlfriend Mia. Throughout the story I was torn because I felt like too much of their relationship was based on Mia but then death is never easy to deal with so I wanted to be patient towards them. Then there’s the issue with Nick and his spiral, his parents allowed him to spiral too much out of control. He’s a 17yr old kid and it doesn’t matter how much he’s hurting as his parents they definitely should of stepped in instead of giving him so much freedom.
I actually enjoyed the relationship that Nick and Hannah developed and I was definitely rooting for their HEA but....at that 95% mark! I was fucking furious!!!!!
I don’t care about little kids promises!!!!
Hannah always loved Nick! Mia knew how she felt and made her promise that she will look after Nick but never be with him. I’m sorry but that made Mia a fucking bitch. To make that request of her best friend while on her death bed is beyond me. I would want the two people I love to be happy even if it means being together. She’s selfish and any good feeling I had towards her was obliterated after this. And to top it off Nick completely fucked up when he choose his dead girlfriend over the person who he grew to love all because he read the letter when Hannah promised Mia that she wouldn’t be with him. I’m sorry but that’s to stupid for me to comprehend! I was so fucking pissed when I read how Nick treated Hannah at the end of this! How can he be so fucking mean to the person who was there to pick up all of his broken pieces! At this point I don’t even know if I’ll read the second book because WHAT THE FUCK!!!!

Wow, wow, wow!!! This book took me on a whirlwind of emotions from page one. And I still feel like I’m on that whirlwind even after finishing! My love for Nick and Hannah, just omg!! Every single character in this book has been through the ringer and back, but none more then Nick and Hannah. Watching them navigate through the journey that is this book was like no other. And I absolutely can’t wait for the next book on this book and to see the ending I know threes two deserve. My heart is still pounding and I seriously need book two ASAP! Ms. Iler has grabbed me in and pulled me close and gotten me so entirely invested in these two and the rest of these characters. I seriously can’t wait to see what happens next!

This book had me from chapter one. My heart instantly broke for Nick and everyone involved, so sad for someone so young. Everyone had their struggles but nothing like Nick and Hannah. I like to think it was the rainbow after the storm for these two. They struggled to be with each other for good reasons but eventually overcame. I don’t quite remember a book that has left me so emotionally attached like this one. Their love story was so beautiful and raw and true.

Anyone who has ever experienced losing someone you love knows that life is broken into two parts. One part is life with the person you loved and the other is trying desperately to find a new normal after that person is gone. It’s a heartbreaking thing to experience and Nick found that out at the young age of seventeen when his girlfriend Mia died. He is completely lost and deals with his grief in the only way he knows how but that his friends and family do not approve of. He is constantly drinking, fighting and hooking up with random girls. My heart broke for him over and over as he tried to find himself again and deal with life without the one person her thought would be his forever.

“The thing is, there’s nothing left of me for them to take. Mia took it all with her last breath.”

Hannah made a promise to her best friend Mia before she passed away to watch out for Nick and make sure he is ok. Hannah is trying desperately to make good on what she said she would though Nick doesn’t make it easy at all. The thing is Hannah may just be in love with her dead best friend’s boyfriend. After months of them hanging out and trying to help him find his way out of the darkness, it seems he feels the same way.

“I’m going to kiss you, and once I do, everything is going to change.”

I honestly wasn’t sure how I felt at first when these two started to get together so soon after Mia passed away. They both felt the same way too, like maybe people wouldn’t understand so they tried to hide how they felt. It becomes such an emotional roller coaster for them because they have this pull they feel towards one another but they both feel like they are betraying Mia and her memory. I was a big fan of Hannah. She is a force to be reckoned with and Nick was just so lost I was hoping they could help each other find a new normal. As much as I wasn’t sure how I felt at first about them getting together so soon as the story went on and secrets are revealed, I wanted them both to be able to love each other the way they wanted to see that you can’t help who you love. This book kind of ended on a cliffhanger with things up in the air and I can’t wait for the next one to see if Nick and Hannah get the chance they deserve.

“You happened out of nowhere, and I realized I can still feel the way I did. All was not lost when she died. The stars still shine up there, and the earth still spins, and that’s because of you. We’re just under a different sky, Hannah.”

I received an ARC for this book from the author. I have been waiting for this one for what feels like FOREVER. Lindsey is the best. She has honestly been a really truly great friend to me. She has helped me with writing my own book, and she is so interactive with her crazy readers, she makes you feel more like a friend, and less like a crazy author stalker.

"My life is a mess. I'm walking around with a black eye. My position on the hockey team is questionable at best, and if that's not bad enough, I think I'm falling for my dead girlfriend's best friend. Every day, it's a
fight to feel alive, and yet, I drink to numb the pain. Everyone is standing back, watching me fall apart. Everyone except Hannah. No matter how many times I push, she's there to pull me back. She refuses to let me spiral any deeper. And after one kiss- she's impossible to ignore. Unfortunately, it seems she and I aren't the only thing being kept a secret."

This book was everything. Lindsey is so good at storytelling. She connects you with the characters so effortlessly. She knows how to pull you in, make you fall in love with these characters, rip your heart out, and then make you die as she slowly pieces you back together. Sometimes.

Nick has lost his girlfriend, Mia. He also has lost himself. He has turned into someone he isn't and he isn't sure how to handle the pain. Hannah, was Mia's best friend, and she promised Mia she would look after him, but it seems like an impossible task. The more Hannah tries to help Nick, the more she likes him, and the closer they become. Now the two of them are stuck in a place where they feel guilty about their feelings, but they also don't want to miss this opportunity at love.

"What I can't put a finger on is why Hannah is so hell bent on pulling me from the darkness."

I loved Hannah. At first glance she seemed like she might be reserved and keep to herself, but she was actually the complete opposite. She wasn't afraid to tell people what she was thinking, and she was always up to defend not only herself, but her friends. She was fiercely loyal, especially to Mia. It literally broke my heart to feel the guilt she had for falling for her late best friends boyfriend. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Without giving too much away I will say I was not happy with Mia, I know she died, and she isn't there to defend herself, but I felt like she was selfish in something involving Hannah, when you read the book you will understand what I mean.

"If you love him, even as complicated as you'll make it, you'll find a way to let him in."

My heart hurt for Nick. He was in such turmoil. He couldn't figure out how to move on, he couldn't figure out who he was without Mia, but once he finally was moving on, he felt this agonizing guilt. It was so heartbreaking. I wanted to reach through the book and give him a hug. I wanted everyone to understand how these two people could fall in love. "I loved Mia, but, fuck, I want Hannah."

"Hannah Barnes doesn't know it yet, but that girl owns me."

This love story was agonizing, it was heart breaking, but it was beautiful. I could see how these two fell in love, how could they not? It felt like torture to see these two people, who deserved to find happiness, just fall apart. The guilt they felt about what was happening between the two of them was awful. I desperately wanted them to just say to hell with everyone else and fall in love like they deserved. "We did something no one will ever understand. We may never recover from this."

"You happened out of nowhere, and I realized I can still feel the way I did. All was not lost when she died. The stars still shine up there, and the Earth still spins, and that's because of you. We're just under a different sky, Hannah."

This story is sticking with me. I am dying for book two, because the way this one ended was just unacceptable. I need to know these two are okay, and I need to see what happens next for them. They have a long road, they have a lot of people that won't understand what's happening between them, and they are going to have to figure out if they way they feel about each other is worth the fight. Lindsey is a master at the angst, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

Overall, I'm obviously giving this one 5 STARS. This book was amazing. I fell in love with these characters, I'm invested in these characters, and I am in complete agony over the pain they are both going through. I'm desperately hoping they get that happily ever after that they both deserve.

"A girl willing to break a promise to her best friend.
A girl who did everything in her power to keep the one promise that didn't matter.
Is it possible to mourn the lost love of someone you never truly had?"

I know I should probably wait a minute before I write this review but oh Jesus, do I love Nick and Hannah.

Nick and Hannah’s story where do I even start? The chemistry and pull these two have is out of this world. The internal struggles they are both battling in feeling the way they do is profound.

Most of us know what it’s like to lose someone we love, and some of even know what it’s like to lose a husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend and the aching pain you’re left with. Now imagine feeling that pain at seventeen and not understanding how to deal with it. The raw emotion in Nick is enough to bring you to your knees and cry. Every once of pain he feels you feel. The struggle he has with moving on you feel. The happiness he feels with Hannah you feel. Nick’s story is real, this happens in everyday life.

Hannah’s struggle although not the same kind of struggle as Nick is just as unyielding and messy. The promises she made she wants to keep, but she’s struggling to do those and is positively heartbroken about it.

Nick and Hannah’s love is beautiful and freeing. The happiness that they have when they're together is magical. They are like two puzzle pieces that have finally found their match. The way Hannah is able to just heal Nick by just being next to him was just perfect. It’s that fairytale kind of love every little girl wants with a whole lot of real world thrown in.

Their relationship came about three months after Mia died, so they knew no one would understand. They both agreed to keep their relationship a secret fearing the worst when people found out. Their love is a struggle, and I mean emotional. Neither of them fully understand their feelings.

Every character had a purpose and an impact on the story no matter how big or small. Nick’s dead girlfriend’s brother is his best friend.

Under A Different Sky had me on the edge of my chair from the very first page until the very last word. I wanted to read faster but didn’t want it to end.

Lindsey wrote a phenomenal book left me in tears and begging for more at the same time. Lindsey’s writing brings the characters to life. Every smile I felt, every tear I cried. Every word in this book was written from the heart, and you know it just from reading.

Nick and Hannah’s story is everything I hoped it would be and so much more! It’s a gut wrenching, emotional roller coaster, and you never know if you’re going to drop 50 feet or go up 100 feet.

I give all the stars in the Sky to Lindsey and Under A Different Sky!

So, funny thing about this book - I didn't even know I signed up for this tour until I noticed the ARC on my kindle. I didn't know what it was, nor have I heard of it...  but then I read the blurb and was instantly SOLD. Under a Different Sky turned out to be one of my TOP reads of the year (yeah, it's only June, but it's true)!

What an angsty and emotional rollercoaster of a story! Gahhh... Nick and Hannah.. those two ripped my heart to shreds. I LOVED them so much. They had so much passion and intensity between them, it was clear as day that they were meant to be. While my heart ached for the both of them, I hurt so much more for Hannah! That girl deserves the world and so much more, I just hope she makes Nick work for it!

I've been thinking about this book ever since I finished it and it's STILL hard for me to find another story that will measure up. I will definitely be stalking the author's page until I get my hands on the second part of this beautiful and heartbreaking duet!

This story is an emotional rollercoaster that provides all the feels. Under A Different Sky had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page until the very last word.
This book pulls at the heartstrings from the outset. Lindsey Iler delivers a heartbreaking story about loss, grief, friendship and love.

Nick and Hannah’s story was amazing. The chemistry and pull these two have is incredible. The internal struggles they both battle in feeling the way they do and their each other love is beautiful and freeing. The happiness that they have when their together is just magical. They are like two pieces of a puzzle who finally find their match. The way Hannah is able to just heal Nick by just by being near was gorgeous.

This is my first book by Lindsey and what a wonderful writer. I cant wait to read more by her. This is a must read.

Nick and Hannah weren’t meant to fall in love but some things can’t be stopped. Though it seems there are secrets that could change the entire course of their relationship.
I really enjoyed the premise of this story. Nick’s a hard guy to handle but he’s been through a lot and luckily has people in his life who refuse to give up on him, one of those people being Hannah. Hannah is sweet and a little naive in thinking she can change a guy who is so intent on self-destruct. I liked these characters as individuals. Hannah is likable and even though Nick is so angry at the world you can see how he would have been easy to love in the past. Unfortunately I had a hard time with their romantic relationship and that’s the reason for my 3 star rating. I just didn’t feel the romantic chemistry between them. I think it was a little abrupt for my liking and so I didn’t have time to warm up to them as a couple.
I also had a hard time following the storyline because the transitions didn’t make sense or there wasn’t any at all. A few examples would be how they’d be sitting on the bed having a discussion and then all of a sudden the next sentence they’re changing their clothes and then once again all of a sudden they’re talking to other people in a different room. They’d lock eyes across the room and then all of a sudden they’re talking face-to-face. They’d be laying on the bed then all of a sudden she’s standing staring out the window. Things changed so abruptly that I had a hard time following and unfortunately it affected the flow of the story.
The ending was great if you like cliff-hangers which I don’t mind. It would have been nice to have a heads up but of course an author is not required to do so. Am I intrigued about the future of these characters? Yes. Will I read the second book? I’m not sure. But I will say as having read most of this author’s books I do think her creativity and ability to give her audience a good book has grown.

My emotions are all over the place, i’m a mess right now. This book is SO emotionally packed I can’t even. This is the first book in the Hand over my heart duet by Linsey Ilser. Hannah and Nick aren’t meant to fall for each other. They can’t even if they want to because of Mia, Nick’s dead girlfriend whom he loves the most and she also is Hannah’s best friend.

From the starting to end there is a push and pull going between the Hannah and Nick. They do try to push each other because they can’t be together without feeling the betrayal and guilt. But the pull is so strong they can’t resist it. Hannah made some promises to Mia and these promises cause a lot of problems in her relationship with Nick. Sad because when everything feels right and they are with each other without thinking about the guilt everything goes downhill.

Can’t wait to read the second book in this duet!!

Lindsey Iler yet again proves just how amazing she truly is.
She has managed to drag me into the world that is filled with Nick and Hannah, and oh man, I am not going to lie when I tell you, I did NOT want to leave.
Under a Different Sky has left it's mark on my heart, and I have a feeling that I am not going to be the only one who felt this way.
Nick and Mia have been friends since their memories began. Friends that slowly formed into best friends, and then to boyfriend and girlfriend. I don't even think boyfriend &girlfriend is a good enough description for the connection these two had. Their love was unique, sweet, beautiful, and could've lasted them a lifetime. Sadly, Mia is torn from Nick's life. She also was torn from Hannah's life. Hannah was her best friend, and they loved each other dearly. Mia made Hannah promise to watch after Nick, and that promise turned into a friendship during an unrelenting grief, that lead to Nick experiencing another unique form of love, and Hannah experiencing true love for her very first time. The two fit together like puzzle pieces..jagged edges matching perfectly to the other's jagged edges.
What would you do if you fell in love with your deceased best friend's soul mate? Would you take that leap? No matter how wrong it may feel? Would you carry guilt for having the one person they could no longer have?
Under a Different Sky takes you deep into feeling the reality of grief, the choices you make, &the guilt and heartbreak you feel when you reach a readiness to "move on"....."move on" may not be the right words actually, I am going to change that to "move forward". The story also carries a whole lot of happiness throughout it as well. It was able to touch upon so much when it comes to the emotions you feel when falling in love, creating new beginnings, and finding YOUR person.
This book is going to take you on a significant ride. You are going to feel these character's emotions right along with them. Lindsey has yet again shown you how amazing of an author she truly is. Don't allow yourself to miss out on such a poignant story filled with the deeper understanding of what true grief feels like, and the reality of what it is like to navigate out of it's deep trenches. So, yes, you will see these characters go through emotional and painful moments, but you will see so much more love, happiness, and the importance of friends that will always be there to support you.
I know some people do not like cliffhangers, but this duet is 100% worth having to wait to find out what happens next. Read it now. Don't allow yourself to wait. I think you will find that you needed this book in your life, and that you will be incredibly happy that you took the chance, and decided to deal with the expected cliffhanger.
Congrats Lindsey! You gave Nick &Hannah life, and I am SO happy to have been able to read your words!

I am not sure what to make of this just yet. Only bits and pieces were revealed and not very clearly.

Nick and Hannah have an emotional connection that’s driven by their loss of girlfriend and best friend Mia. There’s a push and pull between Nick and Hannah as they grapple with their guilt of their developing feelings for each other and it’s understandable, however, the back and forth for the majority of the book was starting to take its toll. Nick loved Mia deeply (as it’s repeated throughout) and that really turned me off on the sort of new relationship. I’m not sure I’m on board with this couple the way it’s layed out. I feel for Nick. He seems to not be over Mia but pursues Hannah. I also feel for Hannah and that she would never be his #1, so it’s tough reading how much he loved Mia (especially since she was such a saint - no sarcasm, it’s described that way - and this story is about Hannah and Nick romance) so fiercely and how Hannah broke him out of the darkness and well she’s the rebound. It’s hard to come to grips with their romance just like all the other characters feel.

Secrets were revealed at the very end (like last 5 pages!?!) that answered some of the anxiety of their relationship. But I didn’t realize this was not a standalone, so I’ll have to wait it out and reserve my final thoughts until book 2. Lukewarm for now, but I like the intent of the story as it’s not a traditional ya romance.

In her latest release, Under a Different Sky, author Lindsey Iler delivers so much more than yet another coming of age novel. Both beautifully and poignantly written, her words and evocative writing brought this book to life. I was immediately hooked by the raw emotion infused into this story, as these characters struggled with circumstances well beyond their years. In a desperate effort to reconcile the loss they endured, reckless and destructive actions send them down a road to no return. The internal struggles Hannah and Nick experienced jointly and separately were tangible. Combined with the undeniable connection and conflicting feelings they felt towards one another, they're heart break and a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. Like gasoline to a fire, their world is about to explode.

Under a Different Sky is intensely moving and downright soulful. This read will pull at your heartstrings, send your heart soaring, as well as rip it out entirely. All the feels, all the stars, and an epic read you can’t miss! Enjoy xo

Perfection !!!!

I knew from the first time i read the blurb and then the minute i saw the cover that this book was going to be something special, and boy was i not disappointed.

Nick is the all american hot sports player with the.perfect girlfriend and the future all set out for them ,until cancer happens and takes it all away leaving nick to deal with the devastation of loosing his first true love.the only person who seems to be able to get through to him is mia's best friend Hannah who promised her she wouldn't let nick fall, and hannah has every intention on not breaking that promise but along the way lines get crossed and promises made become harder to not break.

Nick and Hannah's story is one of love loss and heartbreak but also of hope love and healing if you just open your eyes and see what's right in front of you.

Im so happy i stumbled upon this author, lindsey truly has a wonderful way with words and i cannot wait to see what the future brings 💜

I thought that taking a day or two to get my thoughts in order to write this review and here I am, still unable to come up with words. I don't feel I could do this book justice with anything I say. Nick and Hannah's story is one of love, loss, and heartbreak. Heartbreak so real it bleeds through the pages and makes your chest hurt and eyes water. Grab a box of tissues and bottle of wine and get ready for angsty whirlwind that is Nick and Hannah's love story.

My poor Nick. He was broken down and completely destroyed with the loss of Mia. He had his life planned out with Mia, but God had other plans. The all star hockey player who had everything going for him was now lost and alone, drowning himself in girls, fights, and alcohol. The one constant and person who never left his side was Hannah Barnes, his coach's daughter AND Mia's best friend. That confused Nick because of his unwanted feelings for Hannah.

"What I can't put a finger on is why Hannah is so hell bent on pulling me from the darkness."

Nick and Hannah's chemistry was as confusing to them as it was palpable to the reader. My heart broke for them over their struggle to do what they felt was right versus what they felt in their heart. They found solace in one another and that made them happy in ways they've never been before. They knew that others wouldn't understand and I hope they continue to fight .

"We did something no one will ever understand. We may never recover from this."

This books gave me ALL the feels. I sobbed my way through chapter one and was hooked the rest of the way. I FELT Hannah's confusion, her worry and indecision, her desire to help Nick. Watching Nick come back to live after the loss of Mia was beautiful. This is, hands down, a 5 star read and i'm anxiously awaiting the next book in their story.

"You happened out of nowhere, and I realized I can still feel the way I did. All was not lost when she died. The stars still shine up there, and the Earth still spins, and that's because of you. We're just under a different sky, Hannah."

Nick Kovac is 17 when his girlfriend Mia dies from cancer and his world crumbles and he struggles to find any light. He is drinking and partying while still trying to be the hockey star that everyone expects him to be.
Hannah Barnes was Mia’s best friend and slowly she is trying to be there for Nick as much as he allows her to be. Her dad is the hockey coach and she knows she is walking a fine line with Nick.
As Nick and Hannah both begin to struggle with moving on with their lives the two begin to grow closer but will people approve of their new relationship with the memory of Mia being so recent?
With promises made to Mia will they survive when they are discovered?
I understood completely how Nick was so devastated after Mia’s death as she was everything to him for so long and he really struggled to find his place without her and figure out how to actually go on without her. He was definitely falling apart which was evident with the drinking, partying, and fights he was getting into.
Hannah was such a great girl who was willing to do whatever she could to help Nick pick up the pieces yet it was evident she already cared so much about him but was scared to act on it because she had been Mia’s best friend.
There was so much chemistry between Nick and Hannah but both really struggled with it due to the obvious reasons. I loved the support they gave each other and how they both started getting their lives back together once they figured out that they cared.
The end with Grady was huge as it let everything out in the open and some people were not so happy!!
I was horrified what Nick said to Hannah at the end but I have no idea what she promised Mia and I need to know!!!

What an emotional roller coaster. This one is a little more emotional than what I typically read. It was emotional and quite angsty. It really isn't my usual preference but I couldn't put it down.

Nick has always loved Mia. She was his childhood friend turned first love. But she will forever be 17 years old. After her death, her friends and Nick are trying to find a way to cope and maybe move on with their lives. Hannah was Mia's best friend and she's been tasked with making sure Nick doesn't spiral too far. But in her efforts to be a friend to Nick, feelings are uncovered. That's actually more than I really want to tell you about the plot.

I feel like this had a very healthy dose of hockey in the mix which I was very pleased with. And I was feeling a lot of the angst filled emotions that our characters were going through. At times, it felt a little too sappy... like I just wanted them get on with stuff. But I had to remind myself that these are teenagers. In some ways this book reads a lot like young adult but it also has this current about it that elevated it too new adult for me too. But I couldn't put it down. It was a very fast read too because of the fact that I didn't want to put it down. I am very invested in these characters and I am looking forward to getting the rest of their story just as soon as I wake up tomorrow. If you like mature YA that borders on the line of new adult and like emotional stories then this book is definitely for you. This is a new to me author and I know I'll be reading book two. I'll also be looking to see what else this author has in store. I would definitely read more from Lindsey Iler.

Under a different sky

Ok Lindsey iler is a new author for me, and after seeing all the teasers for under a different sky .. I couldn’t wait to read it..

Omg this book killed me.. in the best possible way.. nick and Mia childhood sweethearts ..Hannah and Nicole are Mia’s best friends...

The first couple of chapters killed me .. so heartbreaking and breathtakingly written.. I cried 🤷‍♀️

Nick starts to spiral out of control and Hannah finally pulls him back , but friendship turns to more .. and I’ve never seen 2 people feel more guilt over their feelings for each other..you sit here reading every page hoping they can both break away from the guilt and live ,love, and just.. be...

“𝐈 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞, 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. 𝐈 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐭. 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬. Hannah made a promise to Mia .. one she keeps, and one that breaks their world apart..

Gahhh this book crushed my soul
And I need the second instalment to this duet now...

4.5 outta 5 stars, this book is heartbreaking and beautiful! How do you fully get over losing someone that you loved, especially when you are so young and feelings are even more vibrant and first love is something that you will never forget? That is fairly easy question to answer- it is a hard freaking road to go through.

Nick lost his HS girlfriend, his first love, to a horrible illness. He knew it was going to happen, but that does not make it any easier, in fact it just made him angry at the world. He is 17, SHE was 17, this is not supposed to happen. Nothing is making the pain easier especially when the entire world knows what happened and it is common knowledge.

Nick is not the only one that lost Mia though, she also had an incredible brother and best friends that are hurting just as much as he is. Especially Hannah, poor Hannah is hurting just as much as Nick and it is killing her.

These two find solace in each other after a long journey, but the feelings that begin to develop cannot be ok. She was his girlfriend's best friend and he was her best friend's boyfriend, people are not going to be ok with this.

Read this story. I cannot say this enough. It was absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking, but underneath it all is a little light shining through!

PS: I received this book as an ARC but am voluntarily and honestly reviewing it.

A beautiful story of finding love even when your heart is breaking.

Mia and Hannah are two different types of girls, best friends whom treated each other as sisters. A bond so strong that even in death one still feels they needs to keep promises and guilt when the lines begin to blur.

Hannah and Nick were best friends before Mia. Hannah had feelings but when she found out Nick kissed Mia she buried them deep. Before Mia passed Hannah devalued her secrets and even with Mia knowing how Hannah felt she still asked her friend to watch out for Nick. Asking her to promise and bury her feelings. This broke my heart more. I was annoyed that Mia would even ask her this knowing how she felt.

I felt for Hannah throughout this entire book. My heart was soaring for her but breaking at the same time. To be in love with your dead best friends boyfriend and not knowing what path to take has to be one of the toughest decisions to make.

This book will pull you in, it will pull your heart strings, and in the end it will break you. The conclusion of Nick and Hannah’s love story can’t come fast enough. These two deserve a HEA and I can’t wait to see how they get it.

Title: Under a Different Sky (Hand Over My Heart Duet Book 1)
Author: Lindsey Iler
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ARC read in return for an honest review.

Under a Different Sky is a beautiful and poignantly written, emotionally moving read which will pull at the heartstrings of even the hardest of hearts there are out there.

The story surrounds Nick and Hannah who are struggling with the loss of Mia, she was Nick’s first true love and he doesn't know how he’s going to live without her as for Hannah, she’s lost her best friend, one she’s made promises to, promises that she’s struggling to uphold. Together Nick and Hannah find solace within one another whilst healing from their loss of Mia which sees them both struggle with their feelings towards one another as they grow closer, the chemistry they have is extraordinary and beautiful to witness. The pair share the type of love I’d say all of us have longed for in our life’s at one point or another, their journey’s not any easy one but it’s well worth it in the end.

Lindsey Iler soars with UNDER A DIFFERENT SKY. I love this book. It made me cry more than once. In this story, seventeen-year-old hockey captain Nick Kovac is mourning the death of his girlfriend, Mia. The only person that seems to get what he is going through is Hannah Barnes; Mia’s best friend and his hockey coach’s daughter. The two become close, but a secrete might tear them apart. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for young adults.

My heart went out to Nick. He really struggles with Mia’s death. He has survivors’ guilt. Hannah promised Mia she would look after Nick. When everyone else is walking on eggshells around Nick, she understands him and grounds him. The two go through a lot together. Many things happen in this story and there are interesting obstacles that the characters face.

This is the first book that I have read by Lindsey Iler. I love her writing style. Her characters have a lot of depth. She really gets you into their heads. Her plot is skillfully executed. The story is believable and emotional. UNDER A DIFFERENT SKY ended in a cliff hanger. I cannot wait for book two. I recommend this book to people that enjoy heartfelt sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
