About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

உண்மையில் இதை ஏன் அவர் எழுதினார் என்று எனக்குப் புரியவில்லை. கதைக்கு தலையும் இல்லை வாலும் இல்லை. கதையில் எதுவும் நடக்கவில்லை. போலி அறிவியல் கருத்தைத் தூவிவிட்டு போயிருக்கிறார்.

Like all other books of Sujatha, this book is also filled with misogynist comments and body shaming dialogues. Vasanth is a pervert. Sujatha sold this pseudoscientific crap with a pervert protagonist to the readers.

சரி, ஏதோ போலி அறிவியல் பேசுனார் அதை விட்டுடலாம்னு பார்த்தா அதையும் ஒழுங்கா பேசல. கூடு விட்டு கூடு பாயும் போது இன்னும் விட்டலாச்சாரியார் படம் மாதிரி நீல நிற ஒளி பாயுதுனு எழுதுறது செம சிரிப்பா இருக்கு. கொஞ்சம் கூட மெனக்கெடாம போற போக்குல எதையோ எழுதிட்டு போயிருக்காரு. அதே போல கூடு விட்டு கூடு பாய்ந்தாலும் குரல் மட்டும் மாறாம இருக்காம்.

இதுல சுஜாதா தான் தமிழின் ஆகச்சிறந்த அறிவியல் புனைவு எழுத்தாளர்னு வேற சொல்லிட்டு இருக்கோம். என்னத்த அறிவியல் இருக்குனு தான் எனக்கு தெரியலை. ஒவ்வொருத்தர் குரலும் அவங்க அவங்க உடல் அமைப்பைப் பொருத்தும் குரல் வளையைப் பொருத்தும் தான இருக்கும். உயிர் உடம்ப மாத்துனா எப்படி குரலும் கூடவே வரும்? வராது. ஆனா கூடு விட்டு கூடு உயிர் பாய்ந்ததுனு மத்தவங்க எப்படி நம்பறது? அதைக்காட்ட நிறைய மெனக்கெடனுமே! அதெல்லாம் எதுக்கு செஞ்சுட்டு, குரல் மாறிடுச்சுனு எழுதுனா முடிஞ்சிது, யாரு கேட்கப் போறா!

The climax was really abstruse without any explanations or even a small clue about the actual happening. On the other hand, Vasanth's jocosity helps in progressing the story line. Without him, this story would have been a bore for the readers.

மொத்தம் 54 பக்கங்கள் கொண்ட சிறிய நாவல் என்றாலும் இது கணேஷ் மட்டும் வஸந்த் இணைந்து வரும் துப்பறியும் நாவல். கதை என்ன என்றால் செல்வரங்கம் என்ற நபரின் அழைப்பின் பெயரில் கொடைக்கானலில் இருக்கும் அவரது மலை மாளிகையில் ஒரு வாரம் தங்குவதற்காக செல்கிறார்கள். அங்கு போகும் வழியில் காஞ்சனா என்ற பெண்ணை சந்திக்க நேர்கிறது . மேலும் மாலை அவரது வீட்டிற்கு சென்று அவரை சந்திக்க நினைக்கும் போது சில எதிர்பாராத அமானுஷ்ய நிகழ்வுகள் நடக்கிறது. இதற்கு பின்னணியில் யார் இருக்கிறார்கள்? உண்மையில் அந்த பெண் யார்? செல்வரங்கம் அவர்களுக்கு என்ன நடந்தது. என விறுவிறுப்பாக கதை கொண்டு எழுதி முடித்து இருக்கிறார் ஆசிரியர்.

உண்மையில் இந்த கதையில் நடக்கும் சம்பவங்கள் அறிவியிலுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டதா. அல்லது pesudo science என்று சொல்லப்படும் போலி அறிவியலா என்பதை படிப்பவரின் விருப்பத்திற்க்கே விட்டுவிடுகிறார் ஆசிரியர்.

புத்தக அனுபவம்:

எனக்கு இந்த புத்தகத்தை படிக்கும் போது ஏற்கனவே இதே போலவே அவர் எழுதிய கொலையுதிர் காலம் என்ற நாவல் தான் நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது. கதை சற்று மாறுபட்டு இருந்தாலும் கதையின் முடிவு என்பது கிட்டத்தட்ட ரெண்டும் ஒரே மாதிரி இருக்கிறது.

"மலை மாளிகை" நாவல் எனக்கு ஏமாற்றத்தையே அளித்தது. இது ஒரு முழுமையான நாவல் போலத் தெரியவில்லை, நீட்டிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு சிறுகதை போல உள்ளது. புத்தகம் மிகவும் சிறியதாக உள்ளது (சுமார் 48 பக்கங்கள்).

ஆரம்பத்தில் இருந்த மர்மம் நன்றாக இருந்தாலும், கதைக்களம் மிகவும் பலவீனமாக இருந்தது. குறிப்பாக கிளைமாக்ஸ் சுத்தமாகப் பிடிக்கவில்லை. கதையை அவசர அவசரமாக முடித்தது போல ஒரு உணர்வு. சுஜாதாவின் தரமான மற்ற படைப்புகளுடன் ஒப்பிடும்போது இது மிகவும் சாதாரணமாக உள்ளது. நேரத்தை வீணடிக்க விரும்பவில்லை என்றால், இந்தப் புத்தகத்தைத் தவிர்ப்பது நல்லது.

சுஜாதாவின் மற்ற நாவல்கள் போல் இல்லாமல் மிக மிக சுமாரான ஒரு நாவல்.
கொடைக்கானலுக்கு வரும் கணேஷ் & வசந்த், அங்கே அவர்கள் பார்க்க வந்த நபரை மலை மளிகையில் சந்திக்க செல்லும் போது ஏற்படும் அமனுஷ்ய அனுபவங்கள் தான் கதை. கூடு விட்டு கூடு பாயும் வித்தை போல எதோ ஒன்றே செய்யும் அந்த நபர் கடைசி வரை என்ன செய்தார் என்று சரியாக சொல்லவில்லை.
கிளைமாக்ஸ் எதோ அவசரத்தில் எழுதியது போல உள்ளது.

Sujatha's infamous ganesh and vasanth duo's portion is good & humorous. But ends in a cliff hanger. did not have a logical end. The usual Sujatha who stood in the side of science and not stupid myths is seems missing in this work.

Metempsychosis

Story based on transferring the soul of a human to a new body. As mentioned in the intro it was written in a weekly in the initial days of his career. Very basic story with no logic or clear explanation for the ending

Accidentally started reading this book. This was my first intro to Sujatha and was happy that this was a short read. The mystery kept me engaging for most part but I wasn't fully satisfied with the ending.

Read the book within a few hours. Kodaikanal is a good choice for this story. Ganesh Vasanth duo always rocks. Learnt the meaning of a few medical terms and the way how Sujatha linked science and psychology is great. Thank you sir!
