Everything is perfect.

Until the other side fires back.

The darkness of our past is always looming, and for once I’m not sure we can beat it. When our trials turn into tribulations, will I be able to save us all and fulfill our destiny? Or will everything we've been working to build be destroyed before I reach an assassin's version of happily ever after?

Alexa and the guys are trying to get their anti-League up and running to train rogue assassins like them to do good rather than harm. In order for their plan to succeed they must get the mysterious Archer to join their group. There are also some assassins from the former league that seem intent on continuing to do harm and have targeted Tylin's group. Alexa wonders if perhaps her father isn't as dead as everyone thinks.

Ugh, where did this book go wrong? I gave four stars to the first and second books, but this one did not live up to the previous books. Perhaps my expectations were too high. The plot had flashes of promise, only to be overshadowed by a multitude of soap opera scenes (even the authors aptly named the setting the "Hormone House") as all these previously solitary assassins come together to hook up with one another. And don't even get me started on the ending. The big anticlimactic finale for the series was abysmal. I would rank it right up there with the stories that end with "and she woke up and it was all a dream". I think the whole scene was over in 3 pages, with a resolution, sure, but no explanation as to what lead the characters to this moment or their motivations. It was disappointing.

So basically nothing happened in this book until like 80%. Even having finished I’m still not sure what the point of the series even was. Now they are refurbishing this house and training assassin’s but not to be assassin’s lol. In book one Alexa is sent to kill her guys and I have yet to find out why she was even given that order. It was less than shocking that Derek was alive and then just anticlimactic when he was killed. Again. 🤦🏽‍♀️ What was the point of all this because I do not know 🤷🏼‍♀️ The heroine personally wasn’t likable this time around either it’s like her voyeuristic tendencies were amplified and she literally became a sex crazed lunatic, it was a little exhausting. So much of her time is spent gawking at her guys I can’t even call it relationship development smh. More like Ogling 101. There were a bunch of one liners and snarky comments that just came off forced and didn’t work for me, they certainly weren’t funny. I’m just so disappointed overall. I mean for a series about assassin’s they never even assassinate anyone. Sure they have falling outs with their enemies, yada yada but nothing worked for me, everything like their life stories is told to us not shown. Is it too much for assassin’s to be badass killers. Which reminds me, who what where when and why to everything lol. Why were they all even working as assassin’s for Armond? He had his own personal army of assassin’s who he sent out to kill who? Enemies I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️ How did he “bring out powers” in all these people? Are they all creations? Ahhhh I’m getting more frustrated because there’s so much unknown I don’t even get the point of the series as a whole lol. Not a fave unfortunately.

I'm going to say 2.5 stars. So there were a couple things I enjoyed about the final book in the Huntress series here. The first thing is it seems like we get our original Alexa back. Original as in the same Alexa that was sarcastic and funny like in book one. She also displayed her bad A ness to the max even if it was kind of anticlimactic after 3 books of.. honestly I can't remember what the original fight was even about and I'm pretty sure I don't remember any refreshers here in book 3. The reason this book kind of fell flat for me here is its supposed to be the last hoorah in Alexa's story here but all the interesting things were happening to Scarlet. The authors spent a huge amount of time setting up Scarlet's story and I'm honestly on pins and needles to find out what happens there. There really wasn't much story for Alexa.... it was almost like all of a sudden shes riding shotgun in her own story. That makes me as a reader feel like this story really should have been summed up in book 2 and then there could have been a Novella or something with all this business with Scarlet.. shes getting all the business over there. That hooker..lol.

Ive mentioned it already, but as far as endings go.... there is a bang for sure, but in all honesty I felt like it was pretty anticlimactic like as in I'm not really even sure you can call it a battle... I was just disappointed when it comes down to it. If I'm really honest I felt this story went down hill after book 1.

These are short books (around 200 pages each), and I read through them fast enough that I honestly am not sure where one book ends and the next starts, so I am writing the review for the trilogy on this book. That means a lot of the below is going to be in spoiler tags, but there are a couple general things I want to talk about first.

I didn't hate this series, and there were parts I liked a lot, but it was overall disappointing. The characters and their interactions didn't really have any forward momentum - I feel like I don't really know much more about any of them now than I did in the first half of the first book, and aside from gaining some trust (and the sex), their interactions haven't changed all that much either. This made for a bit of a 2-dimensional, fun and fluffy read. And look, that's okay ... sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered. But personally I'd like to have seen some growth in their dynamic. Like, even in this last book, Tylin still wasn't including Alexa in the planning - she was always flying blind, with no info about what he was doing, just like in the beginning when he didn't trust her. That was silly, and it grated. Especially when, any time she seemed to grow a spine and press about it, they threw sex at her like a comfort blanket, and all her objections went away. Yuck.

The characters are all a bit of an X-Men rip off. I figured that out fairly early on, and it was reinforced in book 2 when we met Jameson's sister Scarlett, who has Scarlet Witch's power. But that's not grating ... until the last book, where it got self-referential and they started talking about how they are X-Men, but better because they are real. *eyeroll*

The biggest problem with the series is that I feel like the authors never actually hammered out the deal with their powers. I kept waiting for some clarification, and the last book not only didn't give it, it made the whole thing even more confusing with the intro of Archer. I'm going to put this in spoiler tags, but honestly, I don't know if it is much of a spoiler because we never got any real info about it and the trilogy ended with zero understanding. And guys, it's a problem that the authors never made any of this consistent or make sense. It almost feels like each of these 2 authors (the book was co-written) had their own idea about how the powers came to be, and never got on the same page about it. Really, really frustrating.

Then, in this final book we get some weird bits of what seems like retconning. In the beginning of this one, she says she hasn't had sex with Rory - that he could be dickless for all she knows - but book 2 ended up with all 5 of them finally getting together. Additionally, Allison says she and Alexa "have the pleasure of sharing father of the year." But in book 2 we were told they DON'T have the same father - they are half sisters that have the same mother, and Allison is here partially because she wants revenge for how they abused her mother. Again, what the hell? And then on top of the random retconning (that didn't even serve a purpose, as far as I can tell), we have Alexa being REALLY stupid. Come on, seriously. What. The. Actual. Fuck?

And lastly, we've got a desperate need for a copyedit pass on this series. There are lots of wrong word choices, or sentences with an extra word thrown in. And sometimes it is particularly confusing ... like in one book, Derek tells Alexa she's destined to be his predecessor. Huh? I mean, is that the word you meant, and there's some weird time-warping ability here (and that's not a bullshit question, because Alexa has some ability to manipulate time)? Or did you mean successor? And honestly, there's a lot of it.

So heads up. I didn't hate the series, but it never lives up to its potential, and it never really gets its story straight.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Everything we have been waiting for happens in this book and it made me so very happy!! I have been hooked on these characters since book one and this finale has been building nicely making me anxious to see how it was all going to play out. It blew my mind. An absolute must read!! I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Title: An Assassin's Destiny
Series: The Huntress #3
Source: Kindle Unlimited

I don't even know how to round up my disappointing with this finale book. In all genuine seriousness, I feel like it didn't need to exist. There was little to no action; bar maybe two scenes at most. It took place with The Lost Five and then some, renovating a house and dealing with their sexual tension. But I always want more from these kind of books. I wanted to see them engage with their assassin side a bit more, their vendetta against the Lifeless League reach peak capacity. But instead this book felt a little stagnant and I'm glad this series is done with.

Okay this is one of those cases where you think what is going on with the author. This series started as an assassin story and then progressed to a cheap BDSM book. I was lost and bored throughout. The finish was rushed and the characters were bland. For a group of assassins they could have done so much but in the end there was very little action and some major points for the first book were never answered.

5 stars for An Assassin's Destiny by A.K. Koonce. This is the 3rd book in the Huntress trilogy. Let me start by saying I loved all these books and the ending was absolutely fabulous. Alexa is becoming the ultimate weapon and needs to beat Derek. Alexa and the guys are falling in love and want nothing to come between them . They just need to figure out how to survive. Oh this book was filled with ups and downs. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I can not say enough how great this book was. I do not want say anything that would spoil this for anyone, so i will just stop here.

Excellent conclusion

This is the third and final book to this series and it does not disappoint. We see the relationships hashed out for good along with a hint as to the spin off series with Scarlett. I will absolutely be looking out for this series. Though I’m sad to leave this one behind. Alexa Hart is one of my favourite MCs and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed her and her men.

Much better than the first 2 books!!

This trilogy definitely ended on a high note when compared to the first 2 books. The flow of the story seemed more finely tuned and the relationships seemed to progress and grow that didn’t have me questioning everything. I’m still rather skeptical about Alexa‘a initial meeting with the 4 men and how unlikely and rushed it seemed. But that was far from my mind when I read this book.

I actually enjoyed reading about their attempt to create an Anti-League with all the ex assassins. It wasn’t non stop action but a more mellow pace. I still find Alexa to be somewhat lacking when she claims to be one of the best assassins but I can actually see how her character has changed over the course of the series.

There were a couple of inconsistencies that I noticed like the parents of Alexa and her sister. In book 2, we were under the impression that they shared a mother but in this book, it is mentioned that they share Derek as a father along with several other assassins. Yet they are considered half sisters so that means their moms are different.

The final battle with Derek actually seemed anti-climatic but the emotional agony in its immediate aftermath made up for it. Seeing the guy’s heartbreak from Jameson’s POV was powerful and emotionally charged.

While I was kind of a Debbie Downer and a Negative Nancy in my reviews for the first 2 books, I’m glad I decided to continue to the 3 book. It definitely redeemed the series in my eyes. While it still isn’t my favorite from these 2 amazing authors, I still plan on reading their other works as they release them. This one just needed more time with the authors and editors to work out the bugs and the kinks.

Slightly disappointed

SPOLIERS BELOW: This was a pretty decent conclusion to the series and still well written but I had a few issues. My biggest issue had to do with Alexis's personality being drastically different. Some change was expected, because sure love changes you, but the amount of change made her seem like a totally different person than the first two books. I was also disappointed with how the Archer situation was handled. She had reason to be upset and it wasn't about her not trusting them. They sent her out there to accomplish something for their new 'business' and didn't give her the information to do it and made her look like a joke. The resolution of the situation really feels like a missed opportunity for them to really grow closer because while she was let in they were still holding back - one night in a sex club does not make everything hunky dory. Mars was also a bit of a one dimensional bad guy and I wish that was fleshed out a bit more (this I could let go). And an academy? I feel a bit confused about how that makes sense. They are already trained, so why do they need to go to fight class? I get the need to train them for teams, but it seems more like a business venture than school. There were lots of open endings which may lead into the academy series they mentioned at the end. Still recommend the series, maybe these things are ok, or not noticeable, for you.

Potential spoilers.

Loved how the series started but after all the build up the ending with Derek all felt a little anti climatic. Also all the chemistry and sexual build up with Alexa and her men, then it would just skip the sex scenes giving it a more YA vibe which felt a little disappointing. For example, with Rory there’s just one sex scene experienced by the reader across the entire series. The end of this book with Alexa almost dying, felt a bit of a whiplash. One minute she’s thought to be dead, then next they are all sitting around the table eating. And the missions, did they work or not? Did they send out teams? What additional power did Archer give Tylin? I’m not a fan of books/series that just skip over things and prefer longer books with details kept in.
I really love all the characters created (I’m so hooked on Mason and need him and the guys!!) they are all so different and complimentary to each other. The world created is really cool too, it’s different and really interesting.

5++ love filled stars

A fitting and amazing end to an awesome and splendid series.
Loved the book ❤️❤️
Loved and respected Alexa from the very first book, instantly loved and liked Mason while the other three grew up to me with time.
I liked the fact that even after the last book, the guys didn't turn into sappy teens and maintained their personality. I was especially worried about overbearing Tylin and broody asshole Rory, but was pleasently surprised that they showed and showered Lex with love and adoration in their own personal ways without changing themselves. There were times when I wanted to kick Jameseon but that cocky guy is just so sweet and soft in the inside that he was successful a majority of times in melting my anger(didn't forgive him easily that one time when he lashed out Alexa after getting injured by Derek).

Loved the series 💓💓

Happy until....

the end. Yes we heard Tylin tell her he loved her, but she didn’t hear him. That scene where they both profess their love to one another while both conscious was missing. A scene from one of the guys when they find out she’s been taken and how they found her would have helped close a small hole in the plot, especially after just having introduced Derek’s shield. Other than that, it was good. A ménage (or more, lol) scene in the room Rory did would have been pretty sweet too, see just how much more intense things would have been for her and her men.

Fantastic Ending

Alexa is a sex crazed ex-assassin with so much snark that makes this book steamy and hilarious. I loved how her relationships with the guys progressed over the series and how this book toward the ending had such serious and emotional situation for Alexa which never really occurred until this book and because of her feelings for Tylin she had to be serious. This is a great and funny series and I definitely recommend it

meh what a disappointing ending. the ending was very lame especially when you think about how all three books had this same mysterious enemy that has been haunting them. it just seemed like the author wanted to finish it and made everything rushed. it wasnt well detailed, it came out of nowhere, and was just boring and anticlimactic.

also what happened to the mom????

while i did enjoy the series as a whole i cant help but feel that something was missing in the finale book.

I really enjoyed the previous books, so was excited when this hit my kindle. The entire book didn’t have much plot until the very last 10%, and then it felt rushed and over with quick. The end just felt too flat, which was gutting. Though the action was written well enough that I could envisioned it perfectly....

An assassin’s destiny

There were so many emotions in this series. It was like a rollercoaster that I never wanted to get off of. I’m sad that it’s over but the ending was absolutely perfect. It was everything I could have asked for! I’m really going to miss Alexa and her men. Preparing myself for the inevitable book hangover that is sure to come.

I don't want it to end!

This book picked up right where book #2 left off. Alexa and the guys are building their academy so the other assassins have somewhere to go. Everything is finally looking good but evil is lurking closer than they think.
Hot romance is guaranteed when reading this, as well as a lot of suspense, action, witty banter, and snark. I loved it!

Snark and Sass are Back!

Book 3 really brought back the snark, sass, wittiness etc from Book 1 that I really enjoyed. I deducted 1 star because the ending felt weirdly rushed and cut to an epilogue scene too fast in my opinion. Also... kind of hoping for another club outing event from Book 2

Fantastic!

The author of this series incredibly good. A totally different plot than I expected. Sure there are words missing from sentences but since they are mostly minor connecting words, it was not to confusing.

I highly recommend this series and this author. Compelling!
