I typically don't read a whole lot of scifi/paranormal fiction. It's not that I dislike it, I mean, I did watch Buffy back in the day, but I find it to be a bit too much sometimes. However this book was good. We are introduced to Tamara, a nice fairly simple girl. She's getting ready to settle in for the night and then next thing we know she's woken up in the middle of some street. Tamara comes back home to find next to nothing is the same, and she's been up to some shady business while she's been "out". While searching for answers to what happened to her, she run's into Jensen White, who's just the man to provide them. We learn that she's been possessed and it goes on from there.
I found this to be an easy, fun read. Tamara is a little annoying at times, as she can't always keep her emotions in check but that's what makes her so real. It takes a while to figure out everything and the real action doesn't start until the last fourth of the book, but there is enough there in the interim to keep you interested.
This was an enjoyable read and the way it leaves off it could definitely develop into a series....one that I would continue to read!
A very enjoyable supernatural romp. Tamara comes to with months missing from her life. She gradually comes to realise that she has destroyed her former life through her actions. Actions that are the direct opposite to her real character. She has lost her family, friends and job. Determined not to just wallow in shame and hide away, she fights back. Demonic possession is the answer and Tammara, along with another victim plus a couple of angels, go hunting for the demon. The consequences are unforeseen. Recommended reading.
*Spoilers Included In Review* Wow! This book was so well written! I usually don't do spoilers in my review but I have to this time. Tamara is one minute enjoying her life and the next moment she finds out everything has come crashing down on her hard. Once I started reading this book I was invested. How could 3 months of her life be gone without Tamara knowing it? Every relationship she had managed to be destroyed in that time. As much as I hated the devastation in her life and felt incredibly bad for her I could not deny this made for a really good storyline. I have an incredibly open mind and realizing that if demons do in fact exist we could go through exactly what Tamara did. Well to some degree. The fact that her and White were basically, I think they called it meat skins or meat suits for these demons was pretty scary! I just loved everything about this book and if I could give more than 5 stars I would. Bottom line this is a book worth buying especially for the price! Kudos to the author!

One day your life is going perfectly normal. You are the person people can count on to be on the ball. Then you go out for a cup of tea and find yourself in the worst part of town dressed like a Streetwalker. But that isn't the worst of it, even your own family won't talk to you and the antics that Demon got up to? Well, let's just say your bank account is flush, your boss hates you and you're recognized anywhere you go.
Then things get REALLY strange. This story deals with a lot without going into graphic detail. And the Twists and turns are a lot of fun.
This was a fantastic story. The detail about where they were, the possessions and every part of this book were outstanding. When I hit the end I was super invested in the characters and wanted there to be more. This was a wonderful and exciting read!
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
Really cool book! Pulled me in right away and never let me go! I loved the characters, they were really well thought out and written. The story is kinda crazy, but in a good way. Definitely gives you something to think about! ;) All in all I frigging LOVE IT!
I was blew away by this book absolutely loved it! It was a quick, and smooth read for me. This was the first time I had read anything by this author and I can tell you right now she is absolutely amazing. I look forward to reading more from her.
I believe there is nothing scarier than losing one's identity. One minute you are laughing and talking with your best friend the next minute 3 months have passed and everyone you know wants nothing to do with you. Tamara lost 3 months of her life..Others tell her things she did or said that was nothing like the person she was known to be. This was an interesting story that pulled you in within the first few pages. I wanted her friends and family to see her and realize the person they knew would never do the things that she did. They would have fought hard to get her psychiatric help. It's a story that takes you on a journey, gives her life a new purpose that has no true ending.
What would you do? One minute you are doing good in life and really making progress. The next moment you are walking down a street dazed and confused. Time is missing from your life and you are alienated from your family and friends because of your actions. How was she possessed and was there something she did to become possessed ? How does she find out and what can she do to protect herself? This is a really fast paced action packed read. Phenomenal book.

This book contains prostitution, attempted murder, and not having control over your own body.
The Basics:
This Urban Fantasy is narrated by Tamara who just lost three months of her life. One second she’s on the phone with her BBF. The next, she’s in the middle of the road in clothing and a wig that she doesn’t recognize. What happened?!
My Thoughts:
I loved the premise of Inner Demons, but the plot never actual went anywhere. It started off great, so I had high hopes! After Tamara finds her way back to her apartment, only to not recognize anything around her, she does the logical thing: she calls for help! Well, she calls her best friend–it turns out that they’re not friends anymore because of something Tamara did when she was “out”–and her parents. After that she seriously considers that something medically must be wrong to have caused her to lose three months of her life! That is great! Too often, characters just run around in circles and ultimately accept their condition, without considering that something might be wrong that’s not paranormal.
Of course, Tamara’s problem was paranormal, not medical. She was possessed by a demon! An ex-priest turned demon hunter finds Tamara and fills her in on what happened. Inner Demons then takes on a roadtrip twist as Tamara and White hit the open road to track down the demon who ruined her life. Unfortunately, this is also where the plot lost me. It was fun while it lasted, but then they find some angels and I simply find angels boring as heck. There was nothing interesting about them at all. It turned into the cliched angels versus demons type plot, with nothing new to make it stand out.
The most disappointing part about Inner Demons was that it just ends. There’s no closure for Tamara after the big show down. Before she left she wrote to her friends and family about getting help and wanting to make amends in the future. Did she ever go back home? Did her BFF and mother ever call her or write back? Did they forgive her? What happened?!
Tamara is living her normal, happy, successful life – when she suddenly wakes up, in strange clothes in a strange place and with 3 months of her life missing
Her home is no longer her own, she learns she has done terrible, alien things in the time she didn’t remember – and she has no idea what happened or why her life has been destroyed until Jensen offers her a possible answer:
Demonic possession – and there are more demons out there and something big is coming.
Demonic possession is not uncommon in the genre – but we rarely see it from the lens of Inner Demons. When we see the demonically possessed they are usually victims to be rescued. Or background furniture in some horror as their body is used to do terrible/disgusting things. Or, maybe, they’re just a vehicle for the demon with little actual character of their own.
Inner Demon is told from the point of view of Tamara, someone who was possessed. We see the horror and sheer violation of her losing her life. We see the terrible things the demon made her done - terrible because they go against the very essence of who she is and her image of self. The demon destroyed her life and we see this really starkly. Just how she recoiled from little things like her house being redecorated and furniture changed – that simple violation destroyed her home for her. It was almost more powerful than the more gross and obvious violations that so destroyed her self image, her relationships and generally left her life a ruin – because it was more subtle and it was so close to home and worked in the context of that violation.
Tamara really conveys that horror and that loss – from the terror she has from simply not understanding what happened to her, to the grief and then, finally, through to the rage that consumes her. It’s true that the angry Black woman is a trope, but in this book it works excellently since it is woven into part of her experiences. It would be unnatural for her not to be angry, not to be utterly furious in the wake of what has happened to her and what she has lost. Her rage is not just a reaction to what happened but a part of her very real depiction of PTSD because she is traumatised, she is wounded.
So she’s angry and she often fights for control – but it works with her because it is made as a part of her character rather than a clumsy trope addition
Tamara’s character is also very well informed by being a Black woman – her race is not just a brief biographical note. From her reminiscing of her past experiences to the experiences of her family and even how the demons try to attack her. Her rage at how the demons control people – how they enslave and imprison people is partially routed in her experiences and history as a Black woman in the US. Her outrage over other beings not having choices or free will is, again, rooted in that social consciousness. No matter the circumstances, the idea of any beings being slaves outrages her and feeds her growing rage.
I received an ARC through Goodreads. This is going to be a strange review. First of all I normally would not be interested in reading a book about this subject matter but I thought I would give it a try. To be honest the first 50 pages had me captivated which pleasantly surprised me then I drifted from I'm not sure I want to continue to this is an interesting part, let's continue. Well I got to page 170 or so and decided that I had read enough and it was getting to weird for my tastes For someone who likes to read this genre I would probably recommend it but for me it wasn't to my taste.
