On a snowy night in February, Angela‘s life is shattered in a car accident that kills her boyfriend and leaves her severely injured. And also reveals her heroin addiction. An outcast both at school and at home, Angela retreats into relative silence, pushing everyone and everything away. Eight months later, she finally tries to put her life back together.
Author A.M. Henry likes telling stories, collecting stories, and seeking out adventure in the perilous wilderness of Upstate New York. She works full time as a legal secretary, enjoys Classical music and gothic country, bird watching, hiking, and canoeing. She has also recently discovered a love of illustration.
She dreams of one day becoming an outlaw in the Wild West, but would settle with moving to Colorado.
This novel touches on very real issues that challenge today’s youth. The reader is granted access to the inner workings of Angela’s mind, a teen struggling with serious challenges at home and at school. Though addiction is at the core of the story, the guilt resulting from Angela’s past actions—and how she deals with it—is what really struck me.
The story unfolds in a subtle way that makes it easy to believe that you are seeing the world through Angela’s eyes and feeling her pain. I felt like I was back in high school again, which for me was a very long time ago. I learned a great deal about the difficulties facing teens today, and just how easily one can find themselves tangled up with addiction.
I LOVED this book!!! I felt so close with the main character. Reading about a dysfunctional family was fun and also difficult at times. I am in my 50's but still can relate to a teenage girl with all that she is going through. Very well written. I couldn't wait to read it every night. I didn't want it to end.
