Harper Harlow #7

Ghostly Asylum

Rate this book
Something haunted this way comes … and it means big things for Ghost Hunters, Inc.
It seems Phantoms, one of the most popular shows on the Independent Ghost Hunting Network, is interested in doing a location shoot at Ludington Asylum, which just happens to be located on a small island near Whisper Cove.
Since childhood, Harper Harlow has been infatuated with the story of a crazy doctor gone rogue and the resulting investigation that found numerous missing patients (but no bodies) at the former institution. Producers want to feature Harper and Zander on their show, and Zander is happy to oblige despite Harper’s reticence.
Sensing his girlfriend is struggling under the weight of her worry, Jared Monroe takes some vacation time and decides to tag along on what’s supposed to be a three-day excursion full of mayhem and madcap adventure.
Not long after landing, people start disappearing and Harper’s not convinced it’s the ghosts running roughshod over the group. It seems they might have a killer in their midst, although unraveling the hows and the whys of an old mystery overlapping with a new one is anything but easy.
It’s a race to the finish for Whisper Cove’s favorite ghost hunter. She has to solve a mystery with ties to the past, save her friends and the man she loves in the present, and find a way to help the trapped spirits so they can look forward to a different future.
Of course, Harper has to survive herself to do it. Someone is bound and determined to make sure that doesn’t happen, and it’s going to take everyone working together to survive until the final day.

Higher hopes....

I always hope a series will get better as it progresses but with this one sadly has nose dived into the pits. It is nice to show a love interest in the plot but this one has become creepy. The constant need to touch and protect and threaten is beyond reason and after a bit of it I wanted to put it down and walk away. I felt this book was misleading even in the title. Nothing scary in a haunted asylum and for a place full of ghosts only two were seen. Again more effort was given to touching feeling and threatening anyone near Harper . I read it but found it very disappointing and will not read another in the series.

The characters ruined the story

The plot of the book wasn't bad and I would have enjoyed it if not for the characters. I do like how Harper and Zander verbally spar but the relationship between Harper and Jared is pretty sickening. "Heart" ? Really??? And hinting excessively about their bedroom activities to anyone and everyone was ridiculous, not to mention everyone else having something to add. The other characters were flat and not well developed.
Without all of that I'd have really liked it.

Never have I wanted so much to punch a character in the face. Jared is just asking to have that happen. Big man. "I'm a cop."

He needs to wake up on the floor with his teeth scattered around him. Then...he might be a believable character.

Plus, Harper seems to take a stupid pill every time there's danger around. Enough, already.

Ghostly Asylum -A Harper Harlow Mystery Book 7

I was so excited when I started the story. I thought wow this is gonna be super. Harlow in a scary place with numerous ghosts supposedly present. Wow!
The research for the history of the asylum for the time period sounded correct. It is as awful as you can imagine. Harlow had wanted to visit the island where its located since she was a young girl. Her parents and Uncle Mel wouldn't let her and Zander go. Now she gets offered a lot of money to go with a paranormal investigator tv crew. She's actually scared to go but goes for Zander. All manner of strange things happen at the asylum. People start disappearing and no one knows who to trust. Harper meets a nice ghost and gets some info from her which helps them in the long run. They then try to find the missing people. All sorts of things happen and its truly dangerous. I don't understand why Harper and Zander continue to snipe and argue in this instance and the same goes with Jared and Harper. It got old in this story! Same thing with Jared freaking out about Harper's safety. Her getting mad. How many times do they need to continue to argue and discuss the same things. Harper needs to chill and grow up. Jared is not gonna leave her just because they had an argument! Especially now that the "L" word has been used. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because overall I did enjoy the book because of the end I guess. I never guessed who the killer was til he/she found them. I would have given it more like a three and three quarters. I think this story could have been so much better. Great idea just not carried out as well as it could have been.

Never thought I would be disappointed with Harper and Zander

This book has been my most eagerly anticipated for the Harper Harlow series so far. An old broken down haunted lunatic asylum on a deserted island, what could be spookier and right up Harper's street. with a TV company wanting to hire Harper and Zander to go out there and do an investigation looking for ghosts while being filmed. Best book yet. But no, i don't know what went wrong but from the moment we are introduced to the film crew it's just bad. Jared, who insists on going along to protect Harper, starts throwing his weight around, using his authority as a police detective as justification. There's a lot of bickering between the film crew and Jared which is very irritating after a while. Then when they start the investigation in the asylum the only female member of the T V crew disappears and nobody is really worried in fact they even stop the half hearted search to cook and eat a meal. In Jareds defence he thinks the crew have set up her disappearance to manipulate Harper but her own crew show no sense of urgency. There is no sense of danger whatsoever. So there you have it i could continue but do not want to give away more of the plot. There are good moments in the book, you do still get some snarky moments between Jared and Zander and Zander and the TV crew, there's some funny moments as you would expect and it is an easy read. It's not the best but it's also not the worst, I do so enjoy spending time with Harper and Sander i just expected so much more.

So much fun!

Harper sees ghosts. She stopped caring about what others thought and opened a ghost hunter business with her bestie, Zander. Enter Jared, the new detective in town who doesn't believe in anything he can't see. Of course, sparks fly when they meet over a dead body.

I absolutely love the characters in this book. Harper is awesome - strong in that she doesn't let anyone else tell her what to do or how to live her life, but vulnerable in that her only true friend is Zander, who she both lives and works with. Zander is absolutely ridicilous (and seriously loveable), but 100% pro-Harper, no matter what. They are joined at the hip, and anyone entering into a relationship with either has to accept that. Jared figures that out, and actually does pretty well at accepting Zander's position in Harlow's life. Every one of the side characters are also great, well developed and multi-dimensional.

Episode 7: Is GHI going to be on TV? Zander thinks that's a great idea, and Harper has always wanted to see the asylum, but she's afraid of the ghosts that must be there. So many horrible things happened there. In the end, they go. And people start disappearing....Is it the ghosts, or a member of their team? Or is someone else on the island with them?

The Ludington Asylum is hidden away..

.. on an island in the lake. Reports of misdeeds by the staff, inhumane reasons why it's inmates were incarcerated there and missing people all serve to create a powerful history that's now drawn the attention of a film crew from the Independent Ghost Hunters Network and they want to film Ghost Hunters Inc at work on the site.

From the outset our crew, Harper, Zander, Eric and Molly, have mixed feelings about the job.. Zander's imagining fame and fortune, Harper's torn between giving Zander what he wants and the reality that any spirits they find will likely be troubled and therefore trouble, Eric and Molly have other concerns and they're not exactly getting along right now. Jared and Shawn decide to go along with them as added security suspecting that the crew have plans to ensure that they get footage come what may and worrying about the potential danger to their loved ones.

When members of both crews start disappearing and tensions between the two groups reach breaking point it's going to take the combined efforts of the GHI team and a helpful ghost to get to the bottom of it.. lives will be in danger and it's going to be a close call to save everyone and capture the right person.

entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow is a ghost hunter/whisper. She can see and speak to ghost. Along with her best friend Xander who she’s known since kindergarten they own a business called ghost hunters Inc. They live in a small northern town in Michigan and they go around it The area helping ghosts crossover and dispatching them from peoples properties. Her boyfriend is a local police detective and his partner is Xander’s uncle. Every so often Harper runs into a ghost that is the victim of one of her boyfriends crimes. Other times it’s a ghost from a crime from the past or some other issue. When were the other the whole crew gets involved in the end up figuring out what happened and how to help goose cross over and then they clear the property. It is a fun and entertaining series with lots of action lots of fun and a bit of history. Check it out

Awesome add to the series. I love the adorable couples and the mystery, funny lines have me laughing out loud. The only problem I have with this series (and a few others from this author) is the scenes where shes trying to make the main woman character strong and independent "I can take care of myself!" but it comes off whiny and childish. Yes, am all for independent women and they can take care of themselves.....but if there is a murder, or something with crime it is smart to let the detective do his job because well.....its his job and he's better at it then you are. Just like Harper would be better at dealing with a paranormal situation. I just didn't enjoy the drama/fighting where Harper was throwing a fit when in reality things would go better if you took a step back. That's me personally thou, and I still love this author and series. Can't wait for the next.

Spooky, scary and a great freakfest of a read.

Harper, Jared, Zander, Shawn, Molly and Eric are off to on an island adventure but it will be unlike any other island adventure due to the haunted Asylum located on the Island...

Harper will do anything for her best friend Zander even agree to be on tv just because it's what he wants throw in loads of ghosts in a haunted asylum located on and island in the middle of a lake and you have an absolute nightmare for everyone to live through but what is worse is when people start going missing including Molly then things become really real and Harper is beyond not happy.

Talk about an awesome story that really was happily thrilling if thats even a thing...lol

I think this was my favorite book in this series so far.. We have Harper and Zander being asked to go and investigate a haunted asylum on an island.. Harper has wanted to visit that place since she was a teenager, and Zander wants to be on TV so they agree, and take the team Eric and Molly, and Jared and Shawn.. When they start the investigation into the asylum Harper gets separated from the group and meets a ghost who is surprising friendly.. Then people start to go missing, first a woman from the tv crew, then molly.. then eric and another guy from the tv crew..
So now instead of looking for ghosts to help, they are trying to search the asylum for the missing people..
When the mystery is finally solved, I was surprised by who ended up being the bad guy..

Aahh! Harper is really starting to annoy me. She has to argue with every thing. If I had a boyfriend or partner as kind as hers and he was looking out for my safety that much, I’d listen. Forget being a strong independent woman, have common sense. Two women disappeared while being watched, then she argues for a whole chapter about how she doesn’t want a protector and they only want to protect her because she is a woman! Well duh no shit, two woman went missing if it was two men and they tried to babysit her then have at it spend a whole chapter complaining but in this case they were absolutely right to do that! Just stop. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue now or not. Even the funny moments weren’t funny enough to wipe that taste out of my mouth.

As much as I hate to say this, “Ghostly Asylum” was not one of Ms. Hart’s best books, at least in my opinion.
I loved the concept of the story, but wish it had more ghosts for Harper and Zander to interact with.
But the biggest turn-off was Jared. OMG! He said, “I don’t want to be separated from you” so many times I thought I was going to scream in frustration. It was way over the top. Yes, we know Jared loves Harper with all his heart and soul, and we also know he lives to protect her, but - OMG - tone it down a bit.
Having said all of that, am I finished with the series? Not by a long shot. I still can’t wait for the next book.

Little to intense

Love the author, this is the 7th book in the set I will read all of them, but hard for me to read this one taking awhile to get though it. It just a little intense not a lot of light by play of main people with the seriousness of the plot so far(chapter12). It is still very good, 5 stars for writing, but I just give it 4 3/4 stars really just because having a hard time adjusting to the more serious plot I guess. Hard for me to really place why it just not as easy to read this book. I am still enjoying the book it, just hard for me to give it a full 5 stars.

Wow!!!

This story follows Harper, Jared and their small group of friends as they explored an asylum that is rumoured to be haunted for a TV show. The story behind the asylum is tragic and straight out of a horror movie.
When people start to disappear, things start taking a mysterious twist.
I enjoyed the interactions of everyone, especially Harper and her best friend, ,Sander.
Lots of twists and turns occurred in the story and another love story was revealed.
Fab read. Want to read more.

Harper annoyed me in this one

I really liked the story but Harper drove me crazy at times... in book 6 she got all whiny and annoying about having to stay in her house, give me a break it was for like 8 hours... your telling me that she can’t spend 8 hours inside a house without goin stir crazy?? Ridiculous... which brings me to why she annoyed me in this book.... oh no ppl are going missing and you have to stay with someone of the horror of being safe... how could anyone want you to actually be careful... hopefully she stops being annoying..

A Killer Plot!

I think Ghostly Asylum has to be the scariest of all the adventures Harper & Zander have gotten themselves into so far. It has that edge-of-your-seat intensity that kept me captivated from beginning to end! Of course, though, what would a Harper Harlow book be without the snarky banter between the main characters & the love between Jared & his Heart! Lily Harper Hart has another winner in this series!!

Awesome Story

This was a great story with fantastic characters. A haunted asylum, filled with tortured souls. And a gruesome history. But even more is going on with the living people visiting the asylum, that is inconveniently located on a small island. This book was cringe worthy, sad, and unexpectedly funny in a few instances. But never boring, it was a fast paced page turner. I loved it.

Amazingly creepy and fun!

I loved this book. I love the series but this book in particular (so far) had and kept me in suspense. I still love the Zander-Harper friendship. So glad that Shawn is still here. Jared is still sweet. The dynamic between these characters is fascinating and exciting. Anna was my favorite! I'm supposed to go run errands but I think I'll start the next book first. Lol.

I really like this series

Yes, sometimes I want to slap everyone, except Shawn but I did enjoy the idea and the story it self. I also have to take breaks from the relationship that often makes me cringe.

I've read lot of the books by this author under this name and Amanda M. Lee with different but similar types of characters set in different settings and I have enjoyed them.

Sometimes they are the perfect get a way and I am glad she writes them.

Four and a half stars

This is another well-plotted mystery from LHH, and this time she ramps up the creep factor! The setup and location are perfect, suspects abound, and the gradual increase in tension is deftly managed. The loss of half a star is due to Harper and Zander; their utter childishness and self-absorption is really starting to grate as it pertains to their significant others. Boundaries, anyone?!

I have to say, I'm sticking with it because I'm now 7 books deep why are the characters taking a nose dive in to the pits?

Jared was way over the top and down right annoying during this book but Harper, jesus she takes the cake. Constantly whining and pouting because she can't be selfishly reckless and do whatever she wants.

I'm sticking with it for at least another book or two but I can't believe how childish this has become now. The constant sweet talk and petting is just embarrassing too.

Interesting story

A little dark for my tastes but I still enjoyed it. Love Harper and Jared, great characters. Visiting an Asylum many years after it was closed looking for ghosts, seems a little crazy to me. All the weird things that happen after reaching the island , something isn't right. A lot of twists and turns as usual, makes the story all the more interesting. Can they figure out what is going on before someone gets hurt?

This is another good addition to the series! The banter between Harper and Zander continues to be entertaining and the story line is interesting and fast paced.
The only criticism I have is that the character of Jared is starting to come across as clingy, controlling and irritating. I hope this isn't a trend, because it was somewhat distracting.

Another Harper Harlow Mystery.

I think I say this on each book, but I do love Lily Hart's books.
This one I really enjoyed because all of them was in the story. Harper, Jared. Zander had Shawn with him and also Molly and Eric.
It takes place on a island in a haunted abandoned asylum. What could possibly go wrong?

Too much snark

All crankiness aside, who acts like this. The arguing between Zander and Harper and innuendo between Jared and Harper continues unabated even when Mollie, et al, is missing. No seriousness, no worries. Just no. And so little ghostly action that it isn't worth reading. But otherwise, the plot holds together etc so a three is honest.

Things get serious

The whole GHI crew along with a film crew are on an haunted island asylum. And the dangers may not just be from the ghosts!

Perfect for a beach read, but these really need to be read in sequence to make sense. Good news - the whole series is a fast, fun, fluff of a read. Perfect for a week of vacation!

Good Story - Need to fix Formatting

As always Lily Hart has delivered a great story. However, they need to fix the formatting at the beginning of chapter one. I thought there was something wrong with my tablet until I checked it on my phone. Also a few words were misspelled and some incorrect wording. But all in all A GOOD READ!
