Ashara Konrad, rock music photojournalist and vampire, has a secret. One she hasn’t spoken of, in over a century.
Now, that secret has come back from the grave, hell-bent on destroying the most promising musicians of the age, in service to an old voodoo curse.
If Ashara hadn’t seen her vampire twin, Zariaz, dismembered and scattered after going on a killing spree, targeting musicians a century earlier, she would think Zariaz was behind the slaughter, looking to fulfill her 1000 Musician curse.
But it takes more than dismemberment to keep a bad vampire down. And this time, Zariaz is looking for revenge against the twin who betrayed her and the musician she's in love with.
Will Ashara be able to keep her new love safe from her deadliest secret? Or will he become the latest musician to feed Zariaz's curse?
Dark Duet is a haunting and lyrical vampire romance, set in the music world, during the Age of Aquarius. The author, Staci Layne Wilson, is the daughter of a rock star and pin-up model. Her own travels and upbringing in the music world help weave a rich tapestry for this series.
Staci Layne Wilson is the bestselling author of over 20 books, including the Rock & Roll Nightmares series (fictional short stories and nonfiction, all set in the world of rock) and the Immortal Confessions dark fantasy series (vampire rock stars). She is also an award-winning filmmaker whose work includes the documentary The Ventures: Stars on Guitars, and a rock & roll sci-fi comedy, The Second Age of Aquarius. In her capacity as a Hollywood historian and rock music authority, Staci Layne Wilson has appeared on MTV, Reelz Channel, CNN, Bravo, and the BBC.
First off,let me start by saying that I won this ( in paperback form) in a giveaway from signing up for the author's newsletter. It really is a gorgeous paperback. The cover, the way it feels in my hands, to the size of the font. All perfect. This is the kind of story that is easy to lose yourself in for a few hours.it has a bit of everything ranging from vampires, a love story, drama, suspense, and music lyrics. Adding music is always a fun touch to a story. I'm somewhat amused by vampires. Often, after reading something like this, I wonder how an author knows so much about Vamps. Is it something you research, or is the author really a vampire? Could that be how they know so much about these mythical creations? In all seriousness, I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy vamps and love stories. Oh yeah, the ending!!! Absolutely a great start for a sequel!
I actually won this entire series in a giveaway awhile back put on by goodreads and man did I hit the jackpot with this win. I just finished this first book of the series and I absolutely LOVED it. I loved how original it was and the rock n roll theme plus vampires! Heck yeah.
Dark Duet follows Ashara. She is a vampire that has lived a few centuries. She is currently in the decade of the late 60's going into the 70's. She is a photojournalist for rock music and follows famous musician's and bands all over the world. I knew that I'd be sold the second I read about Jim Morrison, which is right off the bat. Ashara meets a guy, while working, that is in a new and upcoming band and they instantly hit it off. Meanwhile, Ashara's twin sister is in the works of trying to sabotage their relationship and continue cursing many people along the way.
This was the first I had heard of this series or author and I'm so glad that I won this giveaway. I can't wait to finish the rest of the series.
Highly recommend to those who love vampire fiction with romance, magic, voodoo and rock n roll. Hands down one of my favorite series I've read.
This is book 1 in Wilson's Immortal Confessions and while it can be read as a stand alone, the ending has me eager to know what's next! This is an incredible read / listen all on its own! Captivating from the very beginning and the storyline keeps you guessing with twists and turns throughout. I didn't know how the storyline could end with me being content but Wilson did a great job of bringing all the pieces together. Well written and absolute perfection with the dual narration - Yves smooth voice is perfect for our main character Ashara and her sister Zariaz. Grayson's voice and accent made me all swoony. I love the dark, rock n roll / twin / vampire romance of this story and while dark, still offers hope. Definitely a listen I would recommend!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
Ms. Wilson is a new author to me. I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook courtesy of a promo code. This storyline and character development was amazing. The flow was easy to follow and kept me interested. I fell in love with the characters.
The narrators Lillian and Vincent voiced the characters giving life to the story. I appreciated hearing Lillian voiced the female characters and Vincent the males. It enhanced the book tremendously. I loved Vincent's deep and sexy voice. I am excited to listen to the next book in the series!
These are some of the best vampires I've ever seen. I spent my formative years reading Anne Rice so I get really picky about my vampires. These may actually be my all-time favorite vampires. The creation lore is absolutely spectacular.
So I’m on on the fence. Had I not been out walking for miles. I am not sure I would have made it through the book. The beginning is very slow and more like a autobiographical novel meets contemporary romance. Granted it has amazing music references but I was just eh. Then the sister actually shows up. It’s much better from here! It’s twisted and she’s crazy but she brought spice to the story. I loved the twists it took and that ending had me on the edge of my seat because noooooo. Of course it ends in a cliffhanger and now I’m dying to know does she listen to the voice in her head?!?!? So like I said I’m on the fence. Half was a 2/3 the other half was. 4/4.5 read for me. Since it left me wanting a lot more I’m going to go with how the second half made me feel for the star review. The narrators did fantastic! My first time for them and I enjoyed them immensely.
Dark Duet, the first book in the Immortal Confessions, is a very well-written paranormal vampire tale with a unique premise warped in the world of music. The storyline is nicely composed, with romance, passion, and darker elements, making it more intriguing. The story reads almost like a memoir; I found it both refreshing and appealing. The character development was excellent; I connected and emotionally responded to predicaments. Hopefully, the second book, Music at Midnight, will be released soon. Need to find out what happens next!
The narration by Lillian Yves and Vincent Lee Grayson is absolutely fantastic. They captured the essence of the characters, emotions, and animation, literally breathing life into the story. All in all, the Dark Duet is a very intriguing paranormal listen, one I'll recommend.
Fantastic mix of rock and roll, monsters, and the occult. Loved all the music references. Vivid characters. Wholly original. A fun and very memorable read.
