This is actually a very good guide for entrepreneurs. The combination of classic business principles and some personal insights is commendable. Maintining our work-life balance is of utmost importance, apparently.
However, no textbook explains that and never goes on to deal with personal or family issues while oulining the steps for implementing business strategies, setting goals, monitoring performance etc.
Anyway, the sacrifices to achieve business success are enormous by all means. The author manages to incorporate real-life examples, keeps the human touch throughout the book and provides invaluable practical tips derived from experience and tested in everyday business life.
It should be acknowledged that this is a professional read, but at times it feels like an immersive narrative, including case studies, which also contributes to the overall positive impression. The holistic nature of the book is visible and could be felt while reading. The overall messages are positive, despite the problems being described and evaluated. Its approach is very realistic and down-to-earth.
Recommended to career-oriented people who are and/or would like to be high achievers.
This was not a book that I could zip through. I had to read and absorb, and then read some more. This is my third attempt to try direct sales, not counting the business endeavors that I only participated in to get the discount. This particular business is one that I hope to continue with after I retire from teaching, so I want it to be successful. This book is more for larger business entrepreneurs, or for those hoping to make it large someday, but I recommend this to anyone who has aspirations for being successful in their business no matter how big, or how small. Even in my little direct sales biz, where most marketing is outlined for me in advance and I am under strict guidelines of things I can and cannot do, I still found this book to be very helpful. I was in the middle of re-branding myself when I picked this book to read, and chapter three is one that I took to heart. I will more than likely revisit the book as my business continues to grow. Well written with excellent advice was given throughout.
T Renee Smith is so open and honest with her audience in this book. She graciously lets us into her life and mind by describing how to balance a business, personal life, and a relationship with your self. It's one of those books that makes you stop and think and digest and go back and repeat a few times. I learned a lot about branding and sales from her book as well. She is very good at asking the hard questions and organizing her thoughts in a way that makes her advice easy to follow.
