So-so. Some ideas could be knew. Or not. Too much scare-mongering (like, OH, THEY SEEK TO MANIPULATE YOU!). It would be really nice to consider what would happen if parents didn't manipulate their kids into eating their veggies.

Good information in this book that’s very digestible but not very in depth. While I’m happy with what I’ve learned this book seriously needs an editor. It feels like it was written on an iphone with autocorrect on.

It felt like a collection of Facebook self help posts. There were parts with grammatical error. This book lacks coherence and fluidity.

First law: hide your intentions, lying is the oldest and most effective form of manipulation.
Second law: attention-seeking. Three: Behaving emotionally. Fourth: Playing the victim. Fifth: taking credit where it's not due: Sixth: Depend on me. Seventh: selective honesty. Eight: Pretending to be a friend. Nine: non-committal. Tenth: playing dumb. Eleventh: pointing fingers at others. A manipulator will always try to keep their hands clean by first, never assuming responsibility, and secondly by always trying to point the finger at someone else whenever there's a problem. Twelfth: telling you what you want to hear. Thirteen: Controlling your decisions.
the Manipulator has selfish intentions, he's a lier, he tries to persuade you to do his dirty work for him. Signals to watch out for: too much flattery to a point it seems insincere, superficial charm, false sympathy, verbal intimidation, passive-aggressive behavior, they never appreciate you, they make you feel bad, you're always getting blamed, they come to you when they need something, when they need something from you, they behave like you're their best friend. The persuader, instead, is honest, he tries to get others to act and change for the better to create a positive impact, trying to promote awareness among others regarding important issues.
Steps you need to manage the manipulation in your life: stay away, start defending yourself, not let them pressure you, say no, do not expect anything from them, determine your boundaries, how to invalidate a conversation to invalidate them, ignore them

(CONTAIN SPOILERS)

The Book in three sentences: Basic cues that you are being manipulated. Point of view of a manipulator. Overview about the dark triad and other psychological disorders.

My top three quotes:
• “Manipulation puts you in a position of power…”
• “It’s hard not to feel good when you’re being flattered…”
• “No one likes knowing they have been manipulated.”

Summary + Notes: This book explains what is behind the mind of a manipulative individual and makes you think as one in order to identify them. The solution that the author proposes in these situations is to “trust your gut”. I think this book could have been excellent, but it lacks scientific support and corroborable information, which puts the credibility of this information in doubt. It does not provide references or any other type of notes that can lead the reader to do more in-depth research on the topics and studies that the author talks about. It should be noted that the format of the diagrams is horrible, not pleasing, not captivating and does not provide much value to the reader. Topics are all over the place and many sentences lack of coherent syntax, not to mention the myriad of grammatical errors including duplicate text. I would not recommend it.

How the book changed me: It changed my mentality in a great way… I got to do my research before starting to read a book.

This book takes on a broad topic like manipulation and limits it to basic laws that any teenager would be able to breakdown. The first chapter itself denotes the restriction of tackling this topic in an eclectic way. In general, it doesn’t provide any special information to the reader and thus I rated it 1 star.

Side note: this book has grammatical errors💀💀

At first, I thought I had gotten an unedited version of the book (hence all the spelling mistakes) but reading some of the reviews made me realize that I was, in fact, reading the published version. Reading a book with so many (and basic!) spelling mistakes felt like an insult and it's something I had never experienced before in a book.

To me, anything I could've liked about this book loses all credibility because of the horrible (or lack of) editing.

This book requires a strict edition. It has drastically wrong misspells. The flaws are understandable, but not acceptable.
Moreover, the writer introduces every single individual as a manipulator. I think whoever reads this book, will find at least one characteristic in his own personality, which the writer mentioned as a manipulator's characteristic. I don't know if the personality traits which mentioned in this book have scientific prooves, but me, myself can not accept all of them as a manipulator characteristics. (However some of them were right, and I could observe them around myself)
On the othe rhand, the last 2 chapters were a little helpful. They were about body language, and tricks to prevent being manipulated.
I don't recommend this book.

It's quite ok to pick this book up....few points are good...but so many repeating senses are used....in the midway of the book I became so bore that I slept so many times..... it's obviously not an engaging book....you have to make sure to pay attention so that you get the sense of the writer.
You can easily get the points through a summary but few points you need to read(not as summary) to understand.

The book on average was very informative however the author doesn't really go in depth nor is it really backed up by any evidence to prove what's been said which is fine I guess. The way the book is written is easy to read and could help. The only other criticism I can add is that it doesn't give you a full analysis which most books do. Would I read this again...probably not, would I recommend this book... probably not.

I found this book really informative and not to over loading so it was a nice light read in a way. The review on this book will be quite short I feel because it is more an informative book rather than a story.

This book helps you understand how people work basically and whether they are persuading you or manipulating you. It also allows you to see whether you are one of these people because it also gives you a few scenarios and the outcomes. It gives you a good insight in a bad person been manipulative and how they control people they are around and how it effects others. It also gives you potential reasons why they are manipulative and a semi in depth cause for each reason.

It also touches on body language that people display when they are speaking to other people and what it means which allows you to understand a bit more whether you are been manipulated or not. It’s also great because you can just start to analyse the people in the street and the people you work with and get an understanding on how they are speaking to you as a whole and what they are truly meaning.

It doesn’t go into a whole lot of depth on these topics but it does give you an insight to understanding whether you are been manipulated or not or whether you are manipulating other people. It also helps you with portraying your message better if you develop the body language points. This book also give you sort of advice and guidance on what to do if you are been manipulated and how to deal with this person and behaviour.

The book isn’t the best wrote and has quite a few auto corrections from what I can tell throughout. The punctuation and sentence structure isn’t the best but you can get by and you can gather the information that you truly need. I actually found this book really helpful and have discovered that a few people within my family/friends circle are manipulative people. I also discovered that I have a few manipulative traits too but I think every person we meet will it just depends on the reasons why we become manipulative and what we use it for will mean whether we are a good person or a bad person.

An ok-ish book. Deals with the subject quite superficially. Could use a lot more detail.
Author/publisher should have also hired a proofreader before publishing this book as the text is littered with errors.
Rated 3 stars as it is not all bad.

Can only be used to identify a narcissist or a manipulator.

Should've been deeper with more insights.

Nothing inside that's related to the title of the book.

Manipulators can come in all shapes and sizes.

In a short notebook-like form, How to Analyze People gives quick, bite-sized chunks of knowledge that are minimally solid enough to help one build a compass and start revaluating others' relationships with him, as well as his with them! I liked how the author started the book with the Solomon Asch Experiment, and found that a rather smart way to tackle the issue of whether interpersonal influence even exists or not. I also enjoyed the consistent emphasis made on the need to differentiate between manipulation and persuasion. It all boils down to the hidden intention behind each of them.

Nevertheless, in addition to its short length, the book didn't develop much the idea of Dark Psychology; yes, it came across the Dark Triad, but I didn't personally find all that was included that satisfying.

I think the book warrants the minimum amount of knowledge over which one can ulteriorly base his later search and reads, and owing to this I recommend it.

This book was really interesting and I finished it quickly. It gives very good information about mind control and the differences between persuasion and manipulation. Lots of examples are given for each; many of which occur in everyday life, so are fully relatable. The book shows the ways in which people are being manipulated everyday but perhaps don't realise it.

The book also talks about how to analyse someone from their handwriting, body language and words they use. It also shows the warning signs of a manipulative person and provides good advice on how to deal with these people in your life accordingly, whether they be friends, acquaintances, work colleagues or a partner.

This book excellently explains the depths and lengths that some people will go to hide their manipulation and gives insight to know when this may be happening.

Highly recommended

Before I found this book, I wanted to learn more about reading people and get better communicating. Sadly, this book didn't help me at all. In fact, I start to consider that it was a waste of time.

First of all, the book title doesn't match what the book is about. There is only one chapter that writes how to read body language. Other chapters are only about manipulation. Not only that, the first two chapters don't give any information at all. The author is literally explaining how horrible are manipulators and doesn't get to the point. I can say, that there isn't any practical information in this book that you can actually use. There are a couple concepts, but they don't mean anything in terms of reading people.

If you expect to learn anything from this book, you won't. Don't read it, because it's a waste of time.

I love this book despite there are some of the typo and grammatical error however overall this book is a short read and very informative. This book uncover layer by layer about manipulation, the consequences and tips on how to avoid it. Sometimes we are unaware of the manipulation at play in real life situation. Manipulation is everywhere but it is difficult for us to retract or decipher it since it has been ingrained deeply within us. However, this book is helpful for us to recognize and providing tips on how to overcome it. Also, this book provide us information on how to read body language which is helpful for us to recognize something bizarre occur.

Personally, I don't understand the negative feedback towards this read. It's short, concise, and captivating in a number of ways as well as informal. Although it did feel a bit redundant at times, I felt the information was fluently presented in a novel fashion. Surley it could be improved but it definitely doesn't feel ☆2.7 worthy as the teachings I found to be beneficial and educational. I'm definitely ignorant and ill-informed to the subject matter of psychology so this might aide to my review, but I found it enjoyable nevertheless.

It wasn't too bad but it wasn't a book that stands out by giving me information that I didn't already know or could have googled it. My biggest pet peeve with the book was the terrible writing style. There were numerous grammatical and spelling errors in it that it felt like the author's baby toddler was writing it instead of an adult! It was difficult to read but entertaining enough for me to survive through the coronavirus lockdown in my country.

1. Manipulation is everywhere, now I know because of this book. Thank God
2. A manipulator's just a figure, the real one is the politician, the bosses, the people who had power and taken control of someone else.
3. Surprisingly, the system of manipulation not only from the living thing but also from the nonliving thing, *social media,* the most world addicted to it, it was manipulating us as well.

This book would help you understand the darker side of manipulation psychology and its minute difference from persuasion psychology techniques. The 13 points of manipulation and its brief explanation provided by Daniel Spade would definitely help people to differentiate persuasion and manipulation. The book has included few body language reading techniques that most manipulators use and will help avoid people with those personality traits.

I read this book as part of a bundle of books written by the same author, I will write the same review for the three of them because they were equally bad; full of typos, bad editing, and the content seems to be a copy-paste from random articles found through random searches on google. I am not claiming the author plagiarized anyone because I have no idea, but the content had a very clichéish feel to it, in my opinion. I do not recommend this book at all.
