This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
The sequel to Way of Aloha: Lania picks up 20 years later. Elder Taylor has come home, married and had children. He has published the first book and it has experienced success. At this point it is a little difficult to distinguish the author from the fictionalized version of himself but it doesn't really matter. In a short period of time he finds himself on a new Hawaiian Island and reunited with Manu for more lessons. This book is longer so the teachings have more space to breathe,
And we get quite a bit. More parables, stories and history of the Hawaiian people and some powerful insights into the gospel.
The story of the priest in the leper colony was especially impactful. I won't lie. I got choked up.
I am LDS but listened asking myself how more mainstream Christian would appreciate the teachings - and outside of a few references to the temple I again believe that Christians would be able to enjoy this book and the insights it offers immensely.
Benjamin Fife is back as narrator and adds another welcome addition to the cast. He goes a grew job embodying very different voices and making them authentic. In my last review I failed to mention he sings in both this and The Way of Aloha: Lanai. Each time he gives a stirring performance without sacrificing the ability to understand we what is being said.
I am looking forward to future volumes in this series.
If you are looking for a book to get you thinking...
and then get you to see things differently, and finally one that can lead to being a better you, this is the book for you.
Interesting to keep you reading, and thought provoking to keep you thinking about it after you stop. The only question is will you let it lead you to change?
He is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I could read his books every day of my life. He is a great storyteller and I learn so much from him. I cannot wait to read his next book!!! He is funny, charismatic, and keeps your interest from page one through to the very end.
I have learned so much about the Hawaiian culture and the gospel. I wish I could go on tours of Hawaii with Manu, Naniwaiwai, and elder Taylor. I definitely recommend ya'll read this, but only after his first book in this series, "The Way of Aloha Lana'i".
A great sequel to the first book, very insightful, although I didn't enjoy the storyline quite as much. It mostly follows Father Damien's life and parallels it to that of Jesus and his teachings. Still a great read, but not as many interesting stories as the first book.
I loved this book. It was amazing to hear about the strong faith of the people of Hawaii. I always enjoy hearing stories about the Church. Benny is a wonderful narrator!
The writing style of this book wasn’t my favorite. A lot of the dialogue felt long and forced. However, the stories and the messages were great and very uplifting.
