My whole life I’ve ignored the dead, now I need them more than ever. ~ Hazel Sampson has always had the ability to see the dead. But rather than let it drive her crazy, she buried herself in work.
However, what lies in the spirit world cannot be ignored. ~ Learning to accept herself, and trust the spirits that watch over her, Hazel must defeat an ancient evil that fights to destroy everything she holds dear. But walking the spirit realm is a hard task, and Hazel will find not only herself, but a love worth ending the world for. ~ The truth will set her free, but the evil that haunts beyond is waiting. Working together, Hazel and her guides must repair the connection between the spirit realm and save the world. Will she succumb to temptation or end evil for good?
Amazing book! I could not put this down and thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The characters are interesting and well written. Our female lead Hazel has had to fight to live the life she wants to lead. Struggling to lead a normal life when she see's the dead. But this is not your average ghost story. When she gets caught in a sticky situation will she be able to trust those she finds herself with? Are the dead out to get her or are they trying to help? This story is told brilliantly and there is never a dull moment in this book. You will definately need to make sure you make time to read this book as you will not want to put it down. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Well done Ms Fisher in a great start to the series! P.s can i have the next book now...
Fantastic read once I got sucked into it. I will admit I have not read something like this before therefore it took me a bit to get into it... However once I was into it, I was into it. The story jumped back and forth between the present and the past which at first was confusing but I go the hang of it and in the end I really liked the mixed in back stories. The plot was good, and ended with a cliff hanger. Beware! I enjoyed the characters and the story within the villains created:) I really enjoyed the pop culture references throughout the book and literally laughed out loud in several spots of the book. Over all I found it to be a fantastic read and I eagerly await the next book in December!
Hazel thinks she's crazy! Maybe she is?? I loved Hazel, especially the way she approaches her 'condition' and the way she interacts with others because of it. There were a couple of scenes that had me laughing -sorry no spoilers ;)- As well as having it's funny moments, there are parts that are incredibly sad so bting your tissues! This book also has some hauntingly beautiful scenes especially in relation to the MC, who I'm definitely in love with!!. There are so many twists and turns in this book that you wont be expecting. I had some serious WHAT!! Moments. Finally the secondary characters were as interesting to me as the main ones. There's one in particular I'm dying to know more about and I hope we find out more in the next book...
Ever wondered if you have an affinity? No doubt you will if you read this book. Hazel has always kept her affinity hidden until someone tries to strip her of the power that she never fully embraced. How can she embrace something when everyone told her she was crazy, but wouldn't you feel crazy if the veil had slipped and you could see spirits? Her life has not been easy and yet she is willing to help others with affinities, despite the struggles that she continues to face. Wonderful read and looking forward to reading more.
Hazel can see dead people (film pun there, lol) as you can guess not everyone wants to know or hear this. This is a refreshing take on a somewhat ghost story except Hazel not only sees ghosts she has other powers too. So that makes her pretty special especially to other parties. It took me a little while for myself to get into this book but when i did it hooks you in and doesnt let you go. Its a fast paced joyride of a book that i loved being on. Roll on with the next book
Fantastic start to what is sure to be an amazing series. This first book is slow paced but it gives you a chance to get to know some of the key players in the story. Once you start reading the story slowly gets its claws into you and won’t let go. Fascinating world building and character development. A lot of suspense and intrigue is thrown in and leaves you on the edge of your seat. A bit of a cliffhanger at the end keeps you wanting more and I can’t wait for book 2.
Wow this was beautifully done! The main female character Hazel is relatable and strong! This isn’t the normal ghost story that you’ve read before it was unique and fascinating! From the first page to the last you’ll enjoy!!!
