This is an eccentric book. The author is rather too addicted to repetitive ghost stories involving restless spirits padding about inconsequentially and opening the occasional door. However, it provides some interesting background on the development of castles and baronial estates in the Cēsis District since the time of the Livonian Order and Latvia's troubled and disjointed history. There are some interesting photographs and illustrations.
