It's anything but a good time. Her bond to Auryn is painfully diseased, Keon wants a divorce, and Akoni is well... Akoni. And he might have tried to murder her. Maybe. Just saying. His father definitely tried to set her on fire.
The magnetar's traversal is about to complete, and time is running out to find a lost ship. Helena's father has flagged her passport, her consorts won't stop fighting, there's a murder investigation, a lack of coffee, and enough stress and heartbreak she's coming apart at the seams.
The Queen of Kludges will need all the duct tape and paperclips at her disposal to salvage this, except it's not her imagination the strain is tearing her apart.
She's a geode, and the hammer has fallen.
Bound By Chaos is the second installment of the slow-burn epic sci-fantasy reverse harem romance for fans of brilliant heroines, space dragons, weird news headlines, and Schrödinger's cat. Contains some naughty language & sexy times.
Merry is a dark sci-fi and fantasy author that currently lives in rural Alabama. She enjoys tormenting her main characters and doing excessive research to make sure unrealistic things are as realistic as possible.
When she's not writing, she enjoys coffee, vodka, painfully bad movies of all varieties, documentaries, coloring books, and knitting.
I feel like this should be the motto of the walking human ball-of-chaos, Helena. The world of dragons keeps throwing things at her, and I'm afraid for what the next book will do to make her crack even more.
But we did get some answers on the Gate, calling Homeworld, the voice in the void, and a teeny bit of progress in her relationships...not enough for me to be doing a happy dance for them atm...but hey, progress nonetheless.
Also, damn you dragon politics!
Can't wait to see if my speculations on whose involved in setup actually comes to fruition.
This book reminds me a lot of some like end-of-the-world shit. So, Merry, pray tell. WHAT DO YOU KNOW?? ALSO, WHAT DO THE SIMPSONS WRITERS KNOW??
People, people. We are not asking the right questions?!?!
I mean, hello.
So anyway. Helena is a chaos dragon. tada. As you can see, I am thrilled with this revelation (read: bored) because it was so unbelievably shocking (read: predictable).
I think I’m truly done with this series. Like Dekka, I’m very much checked the fuck out. Helena is on her own now
I don’t know what’s got me so put off: the technicality of everything (read: science behind it all, etc), Helena’s character entirely, or the fact that while the world and plot are set up nicely and are very intriguing.. there’s just something lackluster about the execution of it. ...Ask me for a wish and call me Akoni, I’m just being honest.
So, this concludes my time with this series. I do suspect more books in the series. The way it ends leaves for more, right?
Idk. I’m not saying I wasted my time but I absolutely could have spent it better.
Helena went from 1 damaged relationship to 3. Auryn had left her Bereft for 2 years, but the tethers still existed. Now she has tethers to Keon and Aykin. Keon immediately takes off for topside and demands she not contact him. Aykin does a 180 from mocking and avoiding her to cuddles and heat. For now. He refuses to mention a future. But relationships have to wait because the dragons are still having air issues. A Wyrm has them on a quest to find one of the old ships. They need that core for the gate so they can contact homeworld. Because their other option is to reveal themselves to humanity. And if movies are anything to go by, that will not end well. For the dragons or humans.
Spoilers ahead. These are really well thought out plot arcs and character developments. Nothing is stagnant. We learn little details of culture and history for the dragons as the story unfolds. Friendships bloom and others wither. Enemies are revealed and others are hinted at but kept hidden. There are a lot of moving parts to watch dance and spin.
The second book of chaos picks up immediately from book 1, with Helena and her consorts coming to terms with the cosmos plans. Another great story by Merry Ravenell, Bound by Chaos unravels a lot of the assumptions you make in book one, and in case you don’t figure out what was happening to Helena in Book 1 and the portal, you will have it spelt out for you by the end of this book. Sex: Yes. It’s a very slow burn, and there is only one scene that is relatively detailed. Plot: well written and intricately woven. The unique imagination Merry showcases with her story’s and plots is on par with Rachel Vincent. The second book drives the plot forward while filling in a lot of the back story. The only issue I found was reference to things from the first book with no explanation, not allowing for the break in reading the two books. World: As with the first book, the World is amazing and creative. The research showcased in the writing with all the physics, engineering, geology, and geography is fantastic and teaches you things you would probably never have known. Seeing things from Helena’s experience also means you get a bit of explanation to all this. Recommend? Yes, but you will need to read book 1 first, and if you haven’t read it in awhile, I suggest reading at least the first few chapters before starting the second. Book 2 also finishes on a revelation which is a bit of a cliffhanger. Honestly, as the last sentence of the book finished, I had the sloth from Croods in my head ‘Da da daaaa’.
The intrigue and twists keep coming. It's a good addition to the series, but series should be read in order. The romance is why choose, rh and is still developing. As far as spice goes I would say it's on the lower side with a mix of hot detailed moments and some fade to black. This one definitely ends on a cliff hanger can't wait to see what's nexr
Wow, amazing storyline, well written, this lady knows her stuff when it comes to quantum physics, but writes it so simply to follow, (also a simple to follow appendix, thank you), chuck in a very slow burn why choose and heaven is created. Ready for book 3 please
I waited for the second book in this series and devoured it as soon as it arrived in my kindle. I'm impressed with the research that's been done by the author.
I read this book a little over 2 years ago and remember nothing about it. Just realized this as it was on my read section in kindle unlimited...oops...
I'm honestly addicted to the stories of Merry Ravenell. She catapulted herself into my top favorite author-list with Alpha's Oracle and I just want more. More of everything. I basically stalk her Wattpad page and everything else I can get my hands on from her. Original ideas, strong characters, soooo many feels, everything is broken and twisted and perfect at the same time. I love it. If what the end of the book states is true we can expect 4 more books this year (god, do I hope that's true) and I can't express how excited I am about that (and how much I crave them). I don't have anything to complain about. I'm not an engineer, english isn't my first language and although I'm quite confident in my skills, some of the stuff stated just goes way over my head, while some of it is explained plainly enough that even I can follow along. There is a pattern with "universe hold my beer", a love for stones (in both the Iron Moon series and this one) and other small similarities that don't take anything away from the story and make them almost more endearing to me (if that is possible). And I like the witt and humor of the author. And *sigh* did I mention I love these books?
