This is the history of the Orkneymen, Earls and Odallers of Norwegian extraction who established an Earldom of Norway in the northern isles of Scotland more than a thousand years ago, and whose descendants held sway over the Hebrides and northern mainland Scotland for several centuries.

Commencing with the conquest of the Isles by Harald Harfagri, the Saga relates the subsequent history of the Earldom of Orkney under thelong line of Norse Jarls, and is, for a period of three and a half centuries, the principal authority for the history of northern Scotland.

Aaaaaaaawesome.

Veneilyä, riehumista, taistelua ja hurjia tilanteita. Erittäin mielenkiintoisia, joskin rajuja, ovat nämä muinaiset saagat. Tällaista klassikkoa ei pysty tähdittämään, mutta lukeminen kyllä kannattaa. Se voi tosin olla hidasta, koska henkilöhahmoja on paljon, eivätkä itselle vieraat skandinaaviset nimet välttämättä hahmotu helposti. Antti Tuurin suomennos on erittäin hyvä. Lopun paikannimihakemisto on erinomainen ja ehdotonkin tarinan seuraamiseksi.

Decent saga but this ebook edition is a nightmare to read because it's obviously just a lazy scan with zero effort put into format or OCR correction. Ow my brain!

What a perfectly horrible culture based on feudal lords splitting their time between getting hammered together and cruising with their thugs up and down the islands and coasts to rob farmers of their crops and livestock, pirate merchant ships, and then come back to land to get hammered some more and kill each other in drunken revenge fights--not soon enough, in my opinion. They won't be missed.

Saaga kerto0 viikinkien vaiheista noin vuosina 700-1000. Tarinat ovat lopulta aika toisteisia: juodaan, taistellaan, käydään skotlannissa ryöstelemässä ja palataan kotikonnuille juomaan ja tappelemaan.
