The first book in the Kate Darby Crime Novel series grabbed me and still owns me. The second book, Bang Switch, was even better! I will admit that part of that preference is because I am already vested in these characters. I have been a fan of Jamie Lee Scott for a long time but this series surprised even me. The emotional depth that we see in Kate, and to some extent in Zane, haunts me. I want so badly for life to be better for them. The action is well paced and the plot will hold even a reader who has no interest in Kate as a person. This book goes well beyond a police procedural but it offers a solid showing in that genre. The twists and turns are sure to bring readers back. I was so glad to discover that Ms. Scott is following the current trend of releasing the first three books close together. I hope that this is more than a trilogy because these characters are mine now.
Any reader could pick up Bang Switch and enjoy it but there are details presented here that are spoilers for the first book, so if possible, I recommend getting both books and reading them back to back. While the central story wraps up, there is a carry-over between the two books. I do not see it as a cliff-hanger but some might.
I pre-order the next book when I found this one was available. The series is that good.

Bang Switch finds Kate Darby healing from her rather serious physical wounds and needing to work on the mental aspects of what all she has been through as a victim. Kate must come to grips with the fact that she is human and has been through a horribly tragic event. In addition, being the cop that she is, Kate is anxious to get back to work and determined to find out who was behind her attack. Scott does a great job of weaving the threads together for a complicated story of small-town Texas cops and the challenge to deal with the Mexican Drug Cartels.

If you follow my blog, you will remember that not long ago I read the first book in this series, Angry Betty. I very much enjoyed it but was frustrated that the book ended without wrapping up the various plots in the story. Well this book, the second in the series, does a great job of wrapping it all up. I also want to admit that I would rather read 2 books around 250 pages each than one book of 500 pages. 500 pages also sound rather daunting to me.

Kate is still recovering from her surgery at the end of Angry Betty, and although she isn't sure how she ended up being attacked, she is sure that one of the cops she works with is somehow responsible. She also knows that Geo Newton's death is not as it seems. Kate is determined to get to the bottom of it, even though she's not on active duty and the case has been closed.

While she is on leave, a cop is murdered, and Zane is the detective in charge of the case. Things with the case just don't add up, and as a second cop is murdered, both Zane and Kate don't know who they can trust, besides each other. It is really hard to know who is corrupt, as everyone seems to be doing things that seem off.

The characters in this series are well written, you really feel all their emotions and frustrations, and the story really captures your full attention. It's a great read! I have already pre-ordered the next in the series!

“Bang Switch” is billed as the second title in the 'Kate Darby' series, but in reality it is the second half which was missing from the first book “Angry Betty”.
Having spent months in recovery and rehab Kate is back in Peculiar, Texas.
She hasn't decided whether to continue working as a police officer but she is determined to find out who betrayed and nearly had her killed.
The killings continue to mount and Kate knows that one false move will put her back in danger.
Her relationship with her ex-husband, Zane, continues to bemuse her.
And then there is the rather strange woo-woo aspect concerning the 'housekeeper' Azizi. Two books in it has come up several times but without any attempt at an explanation.
While it does reach a proper conclusion this time round, it is not quite as good as “Angry Betty.”

5 Stars are not enough for this book.

Kate Darby is on medical leave recovering from being shot and nearly raped by a drug dealer with connections to one of the Mexican Cartels.
Kate was sure she was set up by someone on the police force. She just didn't know who, or how high up the food chain they went.

When she returns from rehab. She finds her ex-husband is asking questions about a new officer who was killed while on break, and now someone is taking out several of the Peculiar Police Dept.

Lots of action, lots of emotion, and a great ending to this chapter in Peculiar Tx. You will not want to put this one down once you start reading it!

one of the best

This is one of the few murder mysteries I have ever finished. Usually has way to much not needed over the top language nut this one is well written. Make sure you read Book 1 of the series first.

The second in Jamie Lee Scott’s ‘Kate Darby’ series picks up where the first leaves off. Bang Switch keeps you thinking and trying to solve the crimes.
I highly recommend this book.

A good read. Not quite as good as the first one, though real close. I'll read #3 if it is a reasonable price!
