"We're like rabid dogs, ready to be unleashed upon the world.” Engrossing, suspenseful and very satisfying! The combination of SciFi, aliens, fantasy, thriller, mystery and suspense is taken to a higher level, with compromised government echelons, powerful and military factions, secret societies and cults..it is a fascinating read! Triptych explains his characters’ backstories so well, it’s realistic, with down to Earth characters, no heroes, no contemplation nor favouritism. The worldbuilding and descriptions are basically spectacular. I soon became lost in the world the author created, so captivating and engrossing it was. I could feel the tremors, the terror, the despair, not knowing whom to trust, and felt as one with the characters. This is one of the best alien invasion stories I’ve read in long time! I’m definitely going to follow the series! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.
Writing Style - 2/2 I actually enjoyed the way X War: Infiltration was written. The paragraphs flowed together well and nothing felt over or under-worded. I also liked how the chapters weren't too long and each one changed POVs, which kept things interesting. However, some of the interactions, especially between Jeff and Piper were a bit unnatural and even cringe-worthy.
Story - 2/4 I have never read a book about an extraterrestrial invasion before (although I have seen a lot of movies), and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. The book had a lot going on to keep my interest. I like getting multiple POVs from people all around the globe. My main complaint is that there were a few plot holes and certain facts that weren't very believable. However, the story was solid enough.
Pacing/Length - 1/1 I thought the pacing of the story was fine. It could get a little slow because there were so many different subplots. If I got really into one person's story, I would have to wait a while until it was revisited. No issues with the length of the book.
It's nice to read a global threat being addressed by a global cast. I'm not surprised that this writer takes that as a given, I've read other things that he's written. It's uncommon though in U.S. science fiction fiction, which tends to the parochial and whose writers are less than cosmopolitan in their understanding of what the world looks like today and can not truly describe a plausible future.
That gives the book a big boost and the story a good starting point. The writing works and the characters seem worth following. It's an ugly scenario but alien invasions of earth often are. It's tense already and the aliens are just beginning their campaign. I expect that this quasi-thriller will provide good reading through the entire series.
You are taken on a journey that will seam unrealistic but it is happening and people don't believe it. We are dealing with aliens that had entered our air space and possibly already are here and around us and not even know it. But these people are somewhat different and strange , that is the beginning of trouble for us. The author did a good job with the book.
Intense battles between humans and aliens and imaginative characters who are tasked with searching for the aliens and the fanatical cult that is helping them. Great intro to a continuation of the war which I sincerely hope will be written and released soon!
A tad conveluted, the stories get long and twisted as POVs change. The writing seems very juvenile, almost YA and some things are nonsensical. Jeff was an interesting character at first and became silly and childish. The villain M is laughable.
Excellent premise but I think the book should be classified for young adults, the language and sentence structure seems like it might be more appropriate for juveniles?
I picked up this book because I needed an X for a reading challenge.
It was totally outlandish but in the best way. The characters were diverse and interesting and I got totally caught up in the story. I’m intrigued to see what happens in the rest of the series.
I have been reading this for nearly a month now and I went to read more of it tonight for the ebook to break completely. I couldn’t turn the page, go back pages or even check how many pages were left until the chapter was finished. This is a DNF but not by choice.
