After a disastrous first marriage, Will Jeffers hasn’t the stomach for another emotionally entailed union. All he needs is a wife to cook, nurse his mother, and look after the homestead. But good women are few and far between in Colorado mining country. A mail order bride is the perfect solution.
Amelia Johannasen is running for her life.
Her brassy mother has decided it’s time her daughter joined the family business, shattering Amy’s dreams of marrying for love. Imagine her surprise when she is mistaken for Will Jeffers mail order bride. She has a talent for spinning tall tales but no notion of how to cook, nurse, or keep a house. Can she reach the heart of a man once burned so badly, he’s sworn off love?
Kathy L Wheeler is an award winning author in her contemporary and historical romances that include suspenseful twists. Her current series Rebel Lords of London is now available beginning with The Earl's Error,. Number six, Captivated by His Countess is scheduled for March 7, 2023. :)
Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, the NBA, musical theater (don't ask how her how many times she's seen Phantom of the Opera (12); or Wicked (7)), travel, (Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico, All over the US), reading (practically a book a night), writing (15 books and counting) and karaoke (well....what can I say). She assists other authors in critiquing, formatting, and creating covers for their publishing dreams.
She writes contemporary and historical stories where the heroines save themselves and the heroes who honor their courage with suspense and humor.
She recently migrated from Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest with her musically talented, lawyer husband, her adorable dog Angel (who lives up to her name...mostly) and their snooty cat (who is truly a snob), Carly.
I hadn’t read Western Romance in a long time, but this lovely story reminded me of why I enjoyed it. Amelia is an intelligent, resourceful heroine, and she does what’s necessary to survive while keeping her sense of right and wrong. Will is a wonderful hero, coming to the rescue when necessary, yet appreciative of the talents of others. The story is full of surprises and kept me reading. There are several fascinating characters, so I’m glad there’s a sequel. Looking forward to Book Two!
I just finished Mail Order Bride: The Counterfeit by Kathy Wheeler. It was quite an excellent read. The story-lone was involved and kept moving. The characters were well developed and believable. It seemed that every chapter added something new and intriguing to the plot. I never really got comfortable reading before some new drama interrupted the existing story. Well done. I think that Mail Order Bride: The Counterfeit would make an excellent book club selection. Jeff Bailey, author of Not On My Watch.
I love historical novels with strong female heroines. This book has a madam’s daughter who is about to be introduced to the family business. Amy escapes, and ends up being mistaken for a mail order bride.
Will marries Amy, and brings her to his home where she is needed to take care of his invalid mother, and cook for him. Amy can not cook, nurse, or keep house. She is trapped in a web of lies, and tries to fake her way through.
Loved the book, characters, and plot. Give it five stars.!
Enjoyable read. Will and Amy Please were likeable characters. The only thing that was a little far fetched was the mom that loved her daughter yet demanded a horrible life for her. I received a free copy of this book and I voluntarily reviewed it.
A fun romp with a feisty protagonist and a clever twist at the end. I'm new to the Mail Order Bride genre so I'm glad I started with this one! Looking forward to book 2, Mail Order Bride: The Breakaway!
I'm unsure how long this writer has been honing her craft, but she needs more work. There were too many coincidences (the real mail-order bride just happened to toss her clothes in the bushes while Amy was watching, etc. Will's first wife was having a fling with his boss until she fell off a horse and died(she was an expert horsewoman).
The story's author had plenty going on to keep readers turning the pages, but it sometimes seemed rushed. In the end, everything was nice and pat. I don't feel compelled to read the story about her twin.
This story of unknown twins with a mother that ran a brothel is fascinating! She left one behind and took one and almost married the same man! They ended happy and the twins reunited.
