You know what the Wild West needs?

Vampires.

Until her fangs came out.

Now Pete’s gotta rectify his innate sense of justice with a growing desire to devour everyone in sight. A small cadre of vampire hunters would be just the place for him, but they have one condition…

...if he drinks blood, his partner will waste him on the spot.

To make matters worse, she’s the meanest, purdiest woman he’s ever laid eyes on.

The Wild West just got wilder.

Saddle up and grab your copy, let’s hit the trail before nightfall.

‘Cause night is when the real fun starts.

A different kind of western!

Silver Bullet by J.M. Thomas is a western, which I don't normally read, but if it has a vampire in it then that's a western I can get behind! It was pretty enjoyable for a western! I had read Western with a ghost or two but I did like the idea of vamps in the wild West! ( Were-coyotes too!)

Found on a free site, I was shockingly surprised at what a great story this was - not to disparage the author, but I thought the concept would be goofy, and fun..... NOT! .....It is really well written with great characters and a unique style in its story line. Will check out more by this author!

Most vampire stories written these days fall under either the urban fantasy or horror genres and take place in either the twentieth or twenty-first centuries. Thomas puts a nice twist on the genre by placing his story in the Old West and postulating that a war is going on between vampires trying to expand their numbers and lycanthropes striving to destroying them.

Pete is a lawman who finds himself turned, but not yet lost to the pure evil and bloodlust of full-on vampirism. He gets captured by a tribe of were-coyotes who give him a chance to prove that despite his new condition, he remains on the side of the angels. It’s a great way to introduce a new series, because Pete doesn’t know anything about the supernatural world he now inhabits and his painful lessons educate the reader as well.

Vampires prey on each other as much as people, running fight clubs in which they square off against each other as gladiators. Pete has to find a way to survive the club without completing his turn, while simultaneously figuring out a way to destroy the vampires abusing him. It’s a great first book to a promising new series.

I received this book free from Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.

If you're looking for fantasy authors whose names aren't already on everyone's reading list but who rise above the flood of new authors out there looking for readers, J.M. Thomas would be a good place to start

Deciding whether to rate this book as three or four stars was a real struggle for me. In the end, it didn't quite pass my, "Am I going to immediately pick up the sequel test?" and that's my break-point. If I'd liked the chemistry a little better between our male and female leads, the e-book sequel would probably already be on my electronic shelf as I'd be looking forward to finding out what happened to them.

The fact I'm even thinking about picking up the sequel says a lot given I'm not a big fan of either wild-west fiction or vampiric-protagonist fiction. I'll stick with either for a good story, but they really have to work for my attention.

I could list a few quibbles (like the time the first-person narrator visually described what was happening behind his back). And despite a strong hook that pulled me through it, I found the start of the book confusing, trying to sort our whether things being described were happening in the narrative past or present. After that initial confusion, though, everything settled down into a straightforward narrative that was easy to follow.

The audiobook narrator was solid and well suited to the story. My only criticism for him was it might have been better if he'd used a lighter touch with the in-book narrator's accent. By the time we got to the end of the book, I found it was wearing on me and I had to wonder if it wasn't feeling a chore for him to maintain it as well.

Whether or not I finish this specific series, I'm putting J.M. Thomas on my "to be watched" list and fully intend to pick up more of the author's work.

He meets the werecoyotes, who are Watchers and Destroyers of vampires. Among them is an alluring female named Feather, who becomes his traveling companion.

to control his bloodlust, or risk losing his humanity.

Then he is kidnapped and forced to fight other vampires for the entertainment of humans.

Can Feather and the Watchers save him before he drinks blood and is damned forever?

Great supernatural western! A different kind of vampire story.

Loved the narration of C. J. McAllister

Sheriff Pete, finds himself having to leave town after he was turned into a vampire and left to die.
Before the he is over taken by the bloodlust of full-on vampire. He is captured by a tribe of were-coyotes who give him a chance despite his new remains on the side of the angels. Among them is a female named Feather, who becomes his traveling companion. Pete doesn’t know anything about the supernatural, he now lives in, and needs to learn fast.

Fangy fun!

This is a fun twist on the vampire trope set in a long ignored fertile bed for fantasy. The old West is a great location for weres, vampires, and I'm sure plenty of other things that go bump in the night. I look forward to reading more of the Low Noon series. Hurry up and write them!

Western Fantasy with a Bite
I started to read a physical copy of the book and was really enjoying it. But when I saw that there was an audiobook, I had to give it a try. I'm about sing this book's praises, but let me just say that C.J. McAllister's narration was a heap of icing on the cake. It's like he was made to narrate this book. Honestly, I think it's worth it to fork out for the audiobook. It's so good.

Take that classy pulpy Western novel you always loved or wanted to read. Remove the pulp. Add a fast-paced, character driven plot. J.M. Thomas is highly creative, but the worldbuilding is tight. This is more than just a vampires in the Wild West concept. J.M. Thomas takes that idea to the next level. Pretty much on or around the first chapter, the book get a shot of adrenaline, while never suffering from pacing issues. The prose is sturdy with a just the right amount of zing. The characters are sympathetic. I want vampires in the Wild West to be real and I want Pete to be as real as Wyatt Earp.. The ending resolves nicely, but will make you want to pick up the next book in the series.

Go ahead and pick it up. It's a great ride with plenty of twist, turns, suspense, and action. I read J.M. Thomas' book The Secrets of Sarai, which was awesome. I'm glad to see J.M. Thomas proven as an accomplished writer in more than one genre. I look forward to picking up the other books in this series, but I can't wait to see what comes next from the author.

Great story!💜

This was a little different paranormal shifter story than I’ve listened to before because of the western setting however, I loved it. A few surprises and a little humor made this a great read/listen.
I loved the characters and the narration was absolutely perfect!!
I recommend this book!

This book was a little slow to start for me but picks up with some fun lore and definitely hits its stride and gallops to the finish. A nice quick little read.
