Was sad for the book to end. Loved the whole series

There are so many amazing characters in all of the books from "Balanced on Blades Edge" all the way through " The Golden Dragon". Starting with Ridge Zirkander and ending with Trip. I need to have more stories and there are so many possibilities. The Author stated that she had "all the major plots wrapped up" but I think there are still many plots and questions that need to be explored. Does Kaika help the King and country with more female soldiers. What happens with the Dragonlings? What about Trip and his new found powers? And Pimples and the princess? Shillings Arya, does she find love.... So many stories. I have read other books by Ms. Brokers but none of the other characters have kept me wanting more!!

Heritage of Power

Masterful! A wonderfully fantastic fantasy series that drew me in from the first page. I loved how original and entertaining the story was. The characters were an absolutely blast to read! I loved not only our main couple but all the side characters as well.

I’ll give it a 5 because I started resenting interruptions but I gotta say, if I’d found it in the beginning, I’d have never gotten past the first book. I hate cliffhangers and for a 200 page or so book…? Fortunately, I got the complete series so didn’t have to wait for the next book.

So our H has a reputation for hunches leading to taking side trips while on assignment. This irritates his CO but…it also gets the attention of those outranking his CO so he gets transferred to Wolf squadron. Over the course of the series, he discovers a lot about his past, falls for the h, and helps come up with a way to stop unfriendly dragons.

Also, the king finally gets kiaka to tie the knot.

Heritage of Power is a 5 book series by Lindsay Buroker. A few days ago I began reading Book 1 and I couldn't stop! Now I've read all 5! Each book in the series is a page-turner! It has lots of action and adventure with witty banter and romance. It's full of rich world building and fabulous characters. Trip is a wonderful male hero and Rysha is pretty awesome too. My favorite dragon is definitely Shulina Arya. She has so much character! Lindsay Buroker is an amazing storyteller. I hope she'll write that book about Trip's siblings and Shulina Arya's own love story.

Although the series sets itself up as more serious fantasy, the narratives become increasingly ridiculous but without the humour of the Death before Dragons series. Too many caricatures and though there is extensive world building, it feels unconvincing, as though she is making up points on a whim. A bargain, if you want an irritating but easy read: I am a little stumped as to how Buroker is making money if she’s selling 5 books for £0.75.

Once it gets going...

This is first book series by Ms. Broker that I've read and I rather enjoy it. I wasn't excited by the first book, but once it got going, I loved the characters, the fantasy mixed with 20's universe, and the settings that they found themselves in. It's a worthwhile read and I'll be tackling the original series next!

Trip is a military pilot slowly discovering more about his magical heritage in a time and place where magic is considered suspicious and dangerous. I enjoyed the banter between the characters, but some of it was too juvenile even for my lowbrow tastes. I wondered if this was an earlier Buroker work, and she hadn't yet hit her stride with snarky dialogue (2019 publication date). I was interested to read that the author didn't originally intend to include dragon characters in the prequels to these books, because the dragons are some of the most interesting characters. I enjoyed it overall, and rate the series four stars.

Limited but jaunty

Not much to say about the series apart from the fact that it seems very limited so I assume it might be for kids or young adults.
The main character I understand is supposed to be wholesome but at one point is too embarrassed to enter a room with women breast feeding which is just silly?!!

The “jokes” fart and sort of sex jokes are relentless and rubbish.

Some of the stuff doesn’t really make sense when there is conflict between the supposedly Uber powerful dragons and puny humans, who seem to kick dragon ass with ease as the powers the dragons have seems to exist at one point and be forgotten at some other point.

I could be here all day, many little faults with this but I suppose it’s good for and enjoyable mindless jaunt through a simple fantasy that doesn’t make sense in parts but is benign and slightly vanilla

Loved this series!!!

I truly enjoyed reading this series. Great adventures with odd, quirky and endearing characters. I was sad to reach the end. I was thrilled to find out in the author's notes that her tale had actually began with a previous series, Dragon Blood. I do hope Lindsay Buroker will revisit the Heritage of Power series again because I would love to see what happens with all these characters and with Trip's siblings as they come into their own powers. Off to find the other books in this world!!!

I read the first in this series when it came out in 2017, and enjoyed it enough that I noted in my review that I'd want to read the rest. But when I re-read it in this boxed set, I remembered hardly anything, so it clearly didn't have a big impact on me.

Lindsay Buroker writes books that are entertaining, full of fun banter and well-described adventurous moments, but are also lightweight and largely interchangeable. Usually, they're excellently edited, but these ones had a few scattered glitches: typos, including a few words missing from sentences; vocabulary errors ("incredulous" for "incredible," "liberations" for "liberties" and "hurling" for "hurtling"); a comma splice; the increasingly common "may" instead of "might" in past tense narration; a couple of missing quotation marks. It's still a great deal better than average (fewer than 10 errors per book), but below the standard I've come to expect from this author.

There are also a few inconsistencies or continuity errors. For example, in the first book, the viewpoint characters suspect another character of having sorcerous abilities because he can see in the dark, but by Book 3 he's stubbing his toe in the dark because he specifically does not have that ability. A journal is put into a pocket, that set of clothes is subsequently soaked through, and it appears to have no effect on the legibility of the journal later on. In the fifth book, the female lead is happy that her love interest has finally said he loves her for the first time - but it isn't for the first time, he said it in the fourth book.

Worse than that, there's an outright deus ex machina at a tense moment in the fourth book, which is the kind of cheat I don't expect from this author.

Still, is it entertaining? Absolutely. The snarky banter, the urgent quests with personal stakes, the fun magical technology, the explosions, the desperate fights, the slow-burn romance between people who feel like they don't fit in - all of these elements are what I come to a Buroker book expecting, and here they are. I've described her books as the Subway of fast-food fiction, and I stand by it. You know what you'll get, it will be good but not truly excellent, you'll probably be glad you bought it and go away reasonably satisfied, and the next one will be very much the same. This one has a few minor flaws which weren't fatal to my enjoyment, but did almost drop it out of contention for my Best of the Year list. It enters at the Bronze tier, just barely, because despite everything it is better than the average light fantasy. The world doesn't feel like it's made out of scenery flats, the characters grow and change at least a little, and overall it's a fun ride.

so many positive comments to be made, and nary a negative one to be found

I am so very, very glad that Lindsay decided to return to this universe and write a second series. This was an astounding series in several respects, not the least of which was the ultimate ending in the final book. It is classic Lindsay Buroker and absolutely perfect, and I do mean absolutely PERFECT in every possible way. And although I know I used this in a prior review, I will say that this clearly upstages Miss Mary Poppins who only managed to reach PRACTICALLY perfect.

Is a shame, purely for purposes of reviews, that I did not read this series when it was originally launched or as individual books. So I haven’t had the opportunity to review them individually, and I really feel it as far too much to take the time to do so here as nobody wants to read that much in a review. But these books came years after the initial series, and the growth and evolution in Lindsay’s writing is eminently obvious. Anyway, you cut it, they are simply purely phenomenal.

So if you’re looking for a talented and creative mix of steampunk sci-fi mixed with high fantasy and romance that’s been seasoned with a dash of mystery (because, let’s face it, who isn’t?), then this is for you!

I guarantee it’s worth every penny and you will ENJOY!

Lieutenant Side Drip ...

Give me a break. It is riding the ignorance so often displayed where idiots believe disobedience is ever accepted much less tolerated. The grant dishonorable dies to those incapable of obeying orders way back in basic training. It is the Elite troops who are trained and thus trusted to make advanced decisions and operate or complete missions in their own. Not disobedient losers.

But no doubt the author thinks this is one either reality, two she cares less how intelligent her audience is or three has been suckered by other authors and thus carries forth such folly.

A marine in the old days was not just cannon fodder but fast assault troops. They had no special forces back then. Just became legends by their daring obedience. Today they have their own elite units but let's not forget the airborn, rangers, seals, berets or delta force. Silent Professionals who are and were trained to think for themselves. Try that sometime. A true rebel or in truth an independent Elite all others respect.

Sadly except for such as above I liked the series overall if let's face it. It's really written for kids.

Dragons, technology, swords, guns, and quirky heroes await the reader in Lindsay Buroker’s Heritage of Power series. Across five books, the protagonists, the half-dragon sorcerer and pilot Trip and special forces lieutenant Rysha, cross a broad arc of self-discovery, world-saving fun, and even love.

This is a character-driven plot centered on the two heroes as the world confronts the return of dragons after thousands of years of confinement. The epic tale spans across continents and kingdoms. Politics are straightforward but important, and the relationship with dragons in the world is more complex than most stories.

The heroes and their companions are quirky, fun, and unforgettable. This includes the friendly dragons who have unique relationships with humans. With a fun technological base comparable to a steampunk world, the reader can enjoy a unique world through the full five book series.
I downloaded this book after listening to The Writing Podcast, and I’m pleased with the read. I will miss the characters in the years to come, but if you are looking for an escapist moment, Lindsay Buroker delivers.

Although these books are not technically steampunk I believe they would be enjoyed by lovers of that genre. These books contained everything I love. Dragons, magic, a good story and conflict between the goodies and the baddies. Throughout the series queries are thrown in the readers path such as why is Trip so strong in magic, will he and Rysha confess their feelings for each other? I have to admit the first couple of chapters I couldn't get "Those Magnificient Men in their Flying Machines" song out of my head, but then it moved on to the magic, and humourous angle as well as the flying. Also entertaining were the nicknames of the pilots which tickled my sense of humour. When dragons appeared my satisfaction was complete and I read the books in a very short time, then discovered there was a previous series which led into this one so I went and purchased that too. Well done Lindsay Buroker, brilliant books which are difficult to put down once I started reading.

The romances are hollow but the story is great

I really loved Trip as a main character and I loved the plot of this series but I cannot stand the humor and obsession with sex of the people. My favorites are the dragons and the soul blades and Trip WITHOUT Rysha. The romances are always hyper focused on sex and when they're going to have it and why they're not doing it at all times and it comes off as unnecessary. I don't think any of her characters truly love each other, they're just horny at all times. I friggin love old man Azarwrath and Phelistoth, I love characters with way more wisdom than libido. And it's like this in all of her books, these hypersexual people. Christ, can they find anything else to talk about? No depth to the romances or the people in general. Great plots though! That's why I keep reading them but this will be my last because I get disappointed every time.

I started with the Dragons Blood series because, well, DRAGONS! But it wasn’t enough and I continued on to the Heritage of Power series. Good to see old friends like Wolf Squadron but soon came to look forward to Trip’s adventures. I love that the Girl Power was embraced for these books. Love the nerd factor throughput. I fell in love with Shulina Arya. I’d love to see how Lt. Pimples and his princess progress and of course more about Trips siblings. Do Shulina Arya’s parents know more about them? There’re mothers? Are there truly twins? Will they both have ‘Z’ names, will they be ‘A to Z’, Will their powers be the same? Complimentary? Or total opposites? Will the little ones be able to shape-shift? Will King Augulus and his elite bride produce an heir?
So many questions. A good series does that to me.
Thanks for. The adventure.

is one thing to know that there used to be dragons on the planet thousands of years ago but quite another thing to be confronted with them having returned to the world again...causing havoc.
More so, they are magical and intend on relegating humans to subservience.
Midst of all this chaos a single "odd" young man, a pilot, seems to be the sole person in Iskandia who might sway the course of distriction ravaging the land.
If not for his total ignorance of the fact.
This Heritage of Power, with five books in a box set, introduces the reader to an epic world of magic and dragons to thrill even the weariest of souls.
Author Lindsay Broker is a very capable epic fantasy writer, able to subtly and quickly immerse the reader into a memorable world of fantasy, outstanding characters and a plot to keep your blood pulsing from one chapter to the next.
Enjoy

Another Pern?

Long time from last all the Pern dragon books. First time dragons were main characters, and not bad guys. Outstanding storyline; especially like the dragon blood theme. Always understood in other novels but not developed as this series. I'm going back to read the originals and just loaded 5.5. I wish I had found this during COVID; to pass the time. Keep up the good writing one joyed Trips development and character misgivings and moral qualms. Having an arrogant soul sword as Azzie, a good foil. Great opportunities with Trips siblings as they come into their powers. Excellent series and I enjoyed the female empowerment asa former Naval officer, I'm highly appreciative of our 🐑 ale officers in all jobs. Unlike this current administration. Keep up good Work.

The series revolves around the return of Dragons to the world, actions taken to to try and stop attack’s from the Dragons and the realisation that one young pilot is not what he believes he is.
There are some old characters who make an appearance, but it is the new characters that take centre stage and which the story revolves around, including some very a typical Dragons.
The authors writing style makes these books effortless to read and that coupled with an engaging story and interesting characters is what makes them a pure delight, which is what reading should be.
If you want to enjoy your reading, be entertained and find yourself smiling at the banter between the various characters, this will certainly fill the bill, especially as it is only 99p. An absolute bargain.

Fantastic Side Trip

In looking through my digital library I alternate between space and dragons. I read the synopses & decided I wanted to read this series, but I really didn't know what to expect. This is a fantastic story! Captain Trip is a humble, relatable protagonist. I hated having to put this story down because I always wanted to know what happened next! The dialogue & interactions amongst all the characters was fun. I laughed out loud numerous times, particularly in books 4 & 5 at the dragons, the soulless & Captain Trip's & Rysha's awkwardness. I hated for the story to end! Now I am invested in this world & definitely have to seek out the other related books. Loved Ms. Broker's writing style, conversations & humor. Definitely looking for more books by her.

It was the best of books; it was the worst of books.

It was the best of books; it was the worst of books.

The author has an abundance of talent and skill. The books were entertaining with humor and thrills. I loved the characters and the imagery.

So what’s not to like? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, lowbrow sexual humor and innuendos. Really, the author seemed obsessed with sex. It was ok at first, I just skipped over it, but in book, after book, page, after page, it threatened to overwhelm the truly praise-worthy rest of the story.

In fact, it is a testament to the author’s skill and talent that I finished the entire series. If you don’t mind what I consider inane sexual humor and innuendo, you will probably rate it 5 stars. I certainly wish I could have — I wanted to.

Thank you for taking g is on this fabulous ride

I bought the first books to keep me busy on a lo g transatlantic flight and not did they,I put them down to eat but that was it. The characters are well composed and credible i their roles, there is murder, mystery, magic, pirates and a sorceress with a sword that is anything but just a sword. Love, hatred, distrust, deceit.....it is all found here, with a few Dragons thrown in for good measure. And who would ever have guessed just how a shoulders would talk a hole in your ear or commenting on your technique during soul sizzling sessions.....or cutting as she sees them. So fantastic books highly enjoyed by a mature reader

Dragons oh my!

I read this series before the series before this 1; so I went back and read all of those juse so that I had a complete picture of the world. I utterly loved every one of these books. I was really happy that this was a box set so that I didn't have to wait for the next book to be published before diving in to the next. Poor Captain Sidetrip all he's ever wanted was to fly and protect others and be normal. It's hard to be normal when you're considered odd by everyone. I want to know if Captain Pimples gets a princess and if a certain female dragon gets the romance and love she longs for.

Lindsay Buroker writes the best books

I think finishing the heritage of power books from Lindsay has been somewhere around 19 of her books that I’ve read in the last year. They are full, unbelievable, action, and wonderful romance, and heroic activities and gestures abound.

I read the first series of nine books, death before dragons, twice so I guess I’m a bit 28 of her books. I’ve read. So much relaxation, so much excitement, so much pleasure in her writing.

Thank you Lindsay. This year has been difficult in a lot of ways for me and your books have made it less difficult and given me a place to escape to and relax into. You are so good at what you do.

This five-book series finds Captain Telryn “Trip” Yert wanting only to be a flier and fight enemies of Iskandia. He’s always been a bit odd, afraid he’d end up like his mother who’d been executed as a witch. So when he discovers his true heritage, he’d rather hide it. Another soldier in the Elite Forces, Lady Lieutenant Rysha Ravenwood, finds him attractive because of his quirks and encourages him to embrace his destiny. Their love story develops as do his powers, and they must muster all their forces to fight the enemy dragons coming to destroy the capital city. If you like dragons with personalities and a heroic couple bent on saving their country, grab yourself this bargain box set now.

Loved it!

Thank you, thank you! I don't usually write reviews, but I love your stories and your characters. I can't stop reading about this world full of dragons and heroes, love and sorrow, joy and hope. I love to be carried away and entertained, and I love "good endings". I love that you don't take yourself too seriously, and that you love this world. I am a 64 year old grandmother who started Sci-fi at age 12, so I have read many stories, and will continue to do so (hopefully) for many more years. Thanks!!

When everything always goes well, it’s not as fun

I liked most of the series but was ready for it to be done at the end. The writing was decent but it seems like there are always variations of cultures like England, Arabia, India, Africa, South American, etc. And this is about the same. I didn’t get any sense either of the scope of the world, the level of technology, distances, dragon ex machina, or other threads that weren’t wrapped up well. Not my favorite but not bad. Also everyone was so horny all the time.

Really Fun Read and Great Heritage Plotlibe

I must admit some of the back and forth with the romance bored me to a small degree. However, I really enjoyed this series. I couldn’t put it down when I picked it up. There’s a rich heritage and deep roots in the mythology and history of this series (and others). The author did a bang up job in the character development and twists. One bite ruling: 8.9/10. Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to read the others in this series.
