Every time they kill me it hurts a little more…

The monsters of Savage Magic Academy need a whipping boy. Only, this year, they’re getting a whipping girl instead, and it just so happens to be me.

When the students’ magic burns within them. When their monsters rage inside of them. They won’t lose control on the unsuspecting humans outside our school.

That’s what I was brought here for.

But if I can make it through the year, if I can die over and over again without breaking, then I might get the one thing I need: my little brother back.

None of them want me to know the truth. They’re counting on me to fail. But what they don’t know? They aren’t the first ones to try to break me.

These students might think they’re monsters, but they’re nothing compared to my parents. And if my own flesh and blood couldn’t break me, these little sh*ts don’t have a chance.

ROYAL MONSTERS is a bully academy reverse harem romance. All the characters are over eighteen. There is swearing and sexual situations. It is also a series of “episodes,” like television episodes. Each story will be short, and it will end on a cliffhanger, but the next episode will come soon after.

Very short but very good. In episodes but quite a lot going on. I feel sorry for the guys in this one because Cat is fearless and can’t die, which is what she’s there for. Curious to see what she is. Plenty of death, sex and confused alphas with blood lust.

I absolutely hate when authors break books up into "episodes/parts". It's a money grab, don't tell me that it isn't. By the time the whole series is released, authors will have reaked in $10+, more than what bestsellers charge for a full length novel. This story isn't even up to the standards to charge that much. And don't get me started on the length.

The first 5-10 pages are, copyright stuff, the cover, table of content, a page with a logo, a page explaining the story, a page with a logo or whatever it is, and a page explaining the episodes.

So by page 12 or so, you get started on the story, but after every chapter, a whole page is taken up, for the damn logo again. So if it's, what? 6 chapters? That's 6 pages on nothing. Then theres the logo thing after the last page, books by the author, another logo page, about the author. And that leaves you with how many pages? Out of 45 pages in average, and half on all of that shit... So you have about 20, maybe 25 pages of story.

And she's charging $1.24 for each book... $7.49 for the complete collection. You know who charges that much for some of her books? Nalini Singh. George R.R. Martin does too. J.K. Rowling is a bit above at $10... And these are all kindle versions mind you.

I hate these collections, it's lazy as heck and it's a money grab. And then authors promise that because it's an episode system of a sort, we'll get the rest of the story fairly quickly.... Well, then it shouldn't be that hard to wrote the whole story and then release it as a full length novel instead of this halfassed joke of a book.

I hate books like this. They have the ability to be great. This could be a #1 best seller but for some strange reason, the author decided to chop this book into itty bitty pieces and publish them all separately. Books like this belong on wattpad and no where else.

Storyline wise i love it but my anger stops me from reading and more. Turn it into comic if ur gna cut it up so much. Sure there is a explanation but it's shit.

Royal Monsters is the first episode in the Savage Magic Academy, episode means it's hella short and leaves you hanging for more.

For the length of this book I felt there is enough to give a sense of establishing a plot. Would things be ten times more better if we had more pages? Definitely but it's not so bad that I feel absolutely disinterested in continuing with this episodic torture.

I liked Cat, she is one of those badass bold heroines. I dig the personality with how contrasting her role as a 'whipping boy' is made out to be. The guys are stereotypical and not much to have as characters yet.

There is nothing different about this PNR world, lots of elements mashed together that's already well seen in the RH genre but it's a quick decent read if you don't mind the episodic nature.

I love this series so far. It was short. Cliffhanger made me glad book 2 is already out.

Have you ever eaten something that tastes terrible, but you just can't seem to stop eating it because it might get a little better by the next bite? Or so you hope? Like month old chocolate, or maybe a pie that was supposed to be peach, but instead is some weird concoction of apple pie with a few notes of peaches (this may or may not have happened to me).
Its like this for example,

What you were expecting:

What a lot of this book ended up being like:

You think something is going to be BA and it splutters out. (sorry for such a weird comparison, but for those of you that are anime lovers and are particularly into the seven deadly sins anime/manga will seriously understand this reference.) But basically what was supposed to be a killer fight scene ended up being the worst.

Well, this book was exactly like that. I didn't HATE it, per say. I actually liked it in the beginning. The premise was interesting, the storyline reeled you in, but it slowly turned into that concoction that I mentioned earlier. There were great elements that just had a terrible aftertaste mixed in. Maybe aftertaste is the wrong descriptor because it was more incorporated than that, but its the best word I have at the moment.

For instance, I liked Cat at first. She was a character that had survived and was better than her past. She was a character that was able to handle herself and she had values that I respected. I agree however with everyone that has gotten past the fifth book. It slowly started to suck. At least to me, she became whiny and I didn't agree with her choices. Everything became rushed. The decisions she made, the guys reactions to those bad decisions, and then how quickly they all resolved their problems were all slammed within a few pages of the book. One minute Cat is creating plans to destroy the guys (even though they're pretty wound up for her and haven't outright messed with her, except for like the first chapter of the first book and never again afterwards) based on a few assumptions (that I will not mention, promise!) and the next she is all lovey dovey and they act like nothing even happened. I think that its the speed that everything occurred at that stripped the substance out of the situation.

In fact, I felt like the relationships seemed stilted and one sided. She liked them, but I did feel like because of the guy's "overprotected-ness" and her need for independence, they were enraptured with her, but she was doing less to feed the relationship. If that makes sense. For example, they would try to keep her away from the bad guy, told her all about the danger of the campus, and then she just flounces off without telling anyone. Yes, I love independent characters, but even some of the strongest characters that I have read before (Mercy Thompson, Lips Anderson (I think that was her last name...), Anna McC0rnick, etc.) were a bit more conscientious towards their partners/lovers.

So, that was my very short spiel. I mean it should speak volumes that I ate this series up within a day (even if they were short "episodes."). So it wasn't that terrible, but it was no absolutely to die for kind of book either. Not to mention the notes of other books that I got from the book. Underwater lily? Yep, totally gave me Harry Potter vibes. But hey I can't spit on people who get inspiration from others, but I think it just irked me a little to see something so closely related. Anyhow, I think that I'll do a full review on the last book of the series, since that will be safe enough to sprinkle a few spoilers into my review.

Enjoy!

This is definitely a very unique book, and although I don’t really see it as a bully romance I can see why it is described as such.

Way too short (around 50 pages short to be exact) and I really dislike short "books", but it was such a great read that I just had to give it five stars. The female protagonist is so strong, damaged and witty - she makes up for the shortness of the book and the a**holeness of the guys.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. Royal Monsters is a bully academy reverse harem romance. All the characters are over eighteen. There is swearing and sexual situations. It's also a series of "episodes," like television episodes. Don't like episodes? Then, pick up Savage Magic Academy, the complete collection! I like Cat! She's sassy and determined and excited about the academy. I wonder when Carter will tell his friends about his night with Cat. Zach seems determined to make her suffer, but I wonder how much success he'll have with that. Cat didn't want to call attention to herself, but she just made a big scene. I hope it isn't too long before she can find out what happened to Simon. Dying to know how she will handle the vampire. I can't wait for the next episode it's such a juicy ending. It's full of horror and excitement and so much entertainment.I can't wait to see what happens next. The characters are an interesting bunch and I am eager to see what mischief Cat causes for them all. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I highly recommend to everyone.

5 stars

To keep it short, I’m in love with this plot. Like I completely love the idea and the authors writing skills are on point and there aren’t any grammar mistakes. So you’re probably wondering why I only gave it 3 stars. Well basically, I can’t stand it when books are put into short episodes. This isn’t a TV Show and the tiny portions of the story aren’t fulfilling. Not to mention it’s a lot easier to forget what happens when you have to wait even as little as 2 weeks in between ‘episodes’. Just write the book and publish it. Especially since this is the authors first series, she really just doesn't have the followers to be doing this (no offense author if you read this).

Business wise it doesn’t make any sense either. As a reader, no matter how much I love the book, I am quick to forget about it. There are books that I would rate 10 stars only to forget about it by the time the sequel comes out. Then I don’t read it at all. In my personal opinion, the best way to ensure you get the most consistent reads across all the books in a series is to release a FULL book, then in 2-3 week intervals release the next book until all the books are out. That's what C.M Stunich did with Filthy Rich Boys and everybody was on the edge of their seats until the next book came out. I'm not sure what I expect to happen by lowering the rating, not much but hopefully the author reads this and understands it from the readers perspective. Maybe my mini rant can guide an aspiring author.

Edit: I am giving back a star, because at the time of this review the next episode wasn't supposed to be coming out for awhile but the author did end up publishing 'episode 2' quite fast. I'm still not a fan of this whole episode book idea but since the episodes seem to be coming rather quick I'm ok with it. I am glad that I remembered this book because it's definitely interesting.

Unconventional Story

I wasn’t sure how I was going to react to this story. I’m getting tired of the bully reverse harems romances that seem to be popping up everywhere now, but I have a soft spot for the broken misunderstood paranormal guys. I hope the author continues to expand out from the “let’s all fall in love because the heroine is so bad@$$ she doesn’t react to pain anymore.” I want to see the characters clicking and growing together outside of those particular torturous scenarios. I think I’ll read the next one to get a better grasp on whether or not I’ll continue with this series. Currently waiting for the next book with fingers crossed.

Royal Monsters was surprisingly good. I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this book since lately new Indie writers are tossing more misses than hits on Amazon. The story, at this point, is rather unique. A whipping-girl, well done!

I don't like the episode format. It's too short and, as we see here, there is a huge hole in the background of the heroine which I needs to be filled in. Maybe there are plans for this in the later installments? Cat is a strong female character. Let's hope she continues on that way and doesn't lose her edge as she starts to get involved with the alphas.

I didn't like this at all. I read about the episode thing and I was slightly curious, but there wasn't anything about the story that was good.

I felt nothing for the characters. I wasn't even intrigued enough to go any further past this book.

You'd think you would feel something for a girl Who has been beaten and repeatedly killed her whole life but I don't. And I'm sorry, even though she goes into that room expecting to die, but ends up just having sex over and over again, and she is all good with it, for some reason bothers me.

Don't get me wrong I've read my fair share of RH books driven by sex, this book just wasn't done in a good way.

I hated this and won't be continuing.

I am so glad that this was only part one because I need so much more which is why I only could give it 4 stars instead of 5. It was such a good book, but I need a little more. For my first book by this author, I absolutely loved it. Cat thing's she is normal, but I know deep down she is anything but and the end of the book with all the reactions from the alphas proved it. She thought she was going to SMA just to find her brother, but she never thought she would meet someone like Carter. But wait there's more she is going to meet so many more. I cannot wait for book number 2.

Interesting

I'm very interested in this series. I wish the next episode wasn't so far away, though. I wonder when Carter will tell his friends about his night with Cat. Zach seems determined to make her suffer, but I wonder how much success he'll have with that. Cat didn't want to call attention to herself, but she just made a big scene.

I hope it isn't too long before she can find out what happened to Simon.

Cat imagined the day she was adopted would be a fresh start; a wonderful life. She expected white picket fences and loving parents. Instead she was beaten, burned, stabbed, shot and drown... over and over and over again. Death would have been a blessing.
Until the night they came and took the one thing she cared about. Ever since then she has been search and waiting. Now she finally is ready to get back what she lost. But at what price? And is it even hers to claim anymore?

This is not a whole book. It's like that app that give you chapters every day. At least it's not just one chapter... still it's released in parts. I would definitely prefer to read this all in a marathon and not in parts.

This is definitely a fun read. I've read till "Episode 5". Not sure If I'm going to pick up book sorry Episode 6 if this series isn't done yet.

For those who "can't finish a book" this series is definitely for you. ;)

A pretty good bully romance. The guys are assholes, some are quite forceful with her but they come around and she forgives them.
The thing about her is - she can't die. No matter how much she is beaten, cut, shot or not she comes around the next day. In fact, she dies several more times throughout the instalments. Some of those deaths are during sex which is a nice outcome sometimes.
I do recommend reading all the serials.

There are so many things about this series I don't like. The whole story in itself is confusing af. It jumps around constantly, so it's a short jumbled mess. It was completely illogical to make this a series. It easily could have been written as 1 book. The FMC pisses me off. 7 years searching for her brother but not even trying to learn more about herself in the process was incredibly irritating. The romance aspect was medicore. I feel like it was written by a bored teenager tbh.

The story is good. However, it is extremly short! Just a few chapters long. You have to keep on downloading new books to read what it should be the next chapter. As a result it feels disconnected and choppy. Also, I lost the interest real fast because who wants to keep on downloading new books to read chapter 5 and then 8 and etc..

This format is for Kindle Vella and not Kindle Umlimited. Real shame could have been great.

I don’t know why this author decided to break this book into “episodes.” It takes me out of the book everytime I have to go get the next part after finishing so few pages. I will probably finish the book, because it is interesting, but I will likely not read another book series from this author.
This could have been a good book, a great book even, but it’s ruined by it being chopped up. Unfortunately, good writing doesn’t often win out against annoying habits.

It was an interesting first part. We have angst, mistery and sexy times. The harem need to be brought down a peg or two but the FMC is up for the challenge. I feel really sorry for her, though, she's been through so much...

One thing that's bothering me is that several year gap between the time the FMC is introduced to later when she joins the Academy, it's such a big jump and so sudden that I'm struggling to forget she's not thirteen anymore

Well I think I’m going to enjoy this series a lot. While the episodes are annoyingly short, they make for a good late night read. I have a habit of starting books and not being able to go to bed until they are finished, so yeah, the episodes make it easy to read and then sleep peacefully lol. Will definitely finish the series

I grabbed this first book on the stuff your kindle day for free and this is my honest review.

Avery! I LOVE how you have divided the books the way you have. Yes the books within this series are incredibly short but wow! The world building, introduction to characters and plot line grabbed me from page one and I had to keep going with the series.

Plot was intriguing. Didn’t realize it was episodic, not sure I’m a fan of that. 3 stars because I was enjoying it but honestly being cut short just getting into it was annoying.

Actually two stars, someone brought up the good point of episodic books being a money grab and I can’t get behind that.

This is an episode - the series is a conglomeration of episodes - easy 40min to 60min reads - which is slightly annoying as it would be a great standalone book.
It also requires some editing and proofreading - the story is actually pretty good, the characters are strong, the storyline is a little weak towards the end...IMPO anyway.
If you're going to read, get the omnibus version, as this short read x8 is annoying.

interesting so far, wish they weren't so short though but I think that about most books. I dont normally like the serial/episode type books but this one grabs you and keeps you interested enough that its worth it. I'd suggest waiting til they are all out though

Treated like a science experiment, and enduring unimaginable pain and abuse from her adopted parents (They want to know her secret to coming back to life) plus a bully romance?

I don't feel masochistic today so no thank you.
