Mating The Alpha

Rate this book

Shifters are powerful, virile, and never short of a willing mate—but even that can’t stop the plague slowly choking their kind into extinction. Bear, wolf and panther Alphas alike need their clans to reproduce fast, and their only salvation might lie in the human women once considered off-limits. But first, the females are going to have to overcome some ‘cultural differences’, such as mating with a clan’s entire inner circle before being accepted as its Queen. Our sweet heroines are falling hard and fast, and they have no idea what’s about to hit them…

Book One
In the midst of darkness four brothers find hope.
But lust, obsession and envy soon follow...
Johnny and Evelyn’s story could end in love, or total destruction.

Book Two
Alpha Dominic has an unpopular plan,
And a visiting scientist, Olivia, is the key to its success.
Will she let the beast into her heart…and his three lieutenants into her bed?

Book Three

If curiosity killed the cat, this kitty is in Big Trouble.
Blair finds a savior, but Jacob’s hiding some grizzly secrets,
And his friends have a disturbingly hungry look in their eyes...

Book Four
The Alpha’s daughter is ready to wed…
And the shifter who mates her will rule the clan.
It’s too bad Dylan is forbidden, which only makes Nylah want him more.

These sinful Alphas know it takes a team to satisfy a Queen, and they have friends on hand to help. Each standalone story is packed with forbidden fantasies as our lovers follow their hearts, despite impending disaster.

I want to preface this review, with a warning. There is a lot of spoiler information as I try explain why I had so many issues with this boxset. When I can't give a positive review, I feel obligated to explain and hopefully give helpful feedback. This was an ARC from a new to me author, it took me a lot longer than normal to read due to it's length and due to editing and consistency issues.

This boxset has four distinct but related stories about four different shifter clans over a period of time. With the initial story starting with the wolf clan, and is mostly about finding a cure for the shifters fertility and infant mortality problems. The Elders tell Johnny that the answer lies with a human scientist, which is against the clans rules and ends with him taking a human as mate.

Jonny's clan is in trouble, their babies are dying and he must find an answer before his clan dies out. Evelyn specializes in extinction in animals, Johnny's Elders send him to her, telling him she can provide the answers he seeks.

There's a bit of a disconnect in the story for me, at times it reads like they are in a South American jungle then the United States. Plausibility was also an issue for me as they're close enough to be only a half mile from a drivable road but no human has ever been in their village. Electricity? but no explanation how. All the brothers have intimate moments with Evelyn but don't address it when Johnny claims her as mate? Evelyn falling into sexual situations with each of the guys didn't work for me either. The series is called 'Reverse Harem' but it appears after the initial sexual interaction she was only going to be with Johnny.

The next story is about a panther clan leader that has to find a human scientist to synthesize the serum and also ends with a human mate. Olivia is actually an archeologist but her past studies qualify her to make the serum. Dom finds her working on an archeological dig near his clan, there's drama with the co-worker she was sleeping with on the site as well as convincing his inner circle to accept her and her to accept being intimate with all of them. Dominic went a little crazy with jealousy when each of his inner circle had Olivia, it seems unbelievable he could allow it to repeat annually.

The third book is farther in the future and revolves around a grizzly clan reduced to four, infiltrating a lab that was suppose to be aiding the shifters but turns against them, hunting and experimenting on them. Jacob rescuing an imprisoned scientist, turns out to be his mate.

The fourth book is about the half breed Nyla from a moose clan, and her father's efforts to find her a mate, gather the clans to fight Biotech and convince the clans to accept humans. Dylan is alpha of a Californian bear clan, he's skeptical about humans but 100% behind taking down Biotech. Once he meets Nyla his view point changes. Dylan comes across as a little immature and Nyla is too often a doormat to her father. When Nyla can't win an argument she closes her mouth and does her own thing. The fact they gave her an aphrodisiac and took their turns with her one after another for the ceremony, didn't come across that they cared very much about her and that the ceremony of sharing her was more important than she was to them. On the plus size, the clans were finally able to end the Biotech threat once and for all.

There's a lot of interesting ideas in these stories and things may have changed before release, but the copy I received had a lot of consistency and editing issues, not only within a single book but also across each story. I really wanted to sink myself into this new world, there's a lot of interesting characters but I was not able to do so. Some word choices were jarring and even troubling as in one story she describes the man 'sawing' into her, made me shudder. If shifting ruins their clothing why do they rarely take the clothes off before shifting? These things start whirling around in my head and I can't stay in the story.

When I see 'reverse harem' I expect a woman is in an on-going sexual relationship with several men, with the woman directing the various relationships. That is not the case in this boxset. There is an alpha male, a shifter clan leader that has an inner circle. Each of his inner circle must share and accept his mate in a ceremony before she can become his queen. After the first time, being with the inner circle either isn't repeated or is allowed once a year, (inconsistent between books). Each of the alpha's had a difficult time sharing his mate, which made the premise that this was part of the culture ring false. I would have expected acceptance, pride and more but not a jealousy that puts them on the edge of violence. While there are tender moments and chemistry between each mate, there is many scenes that indicated a lack of regard or caring for the lady's well being.

I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review. That said, my copy had significant editing issues, some of the things noted in my review may change with the published version.

4 fantastic shifter stories about 4 different shifter clans who decide to take human women as their mates because of the loss of fertility in their clans. The only thing I didn’t really like was how the women were shared with others in the clan before their mate was allowed to be accepted as their queen and their alpha females, yes people I know it’s a Reverse Harem but I didn’t like that they had to have sex with her to accept her. But apart from that I did enjoy these great stories and I recommend this book it’s well worth the read.

Book 4

As I read through the first 3 books, I was pretty optimistic to read book 4, as the author had adequately spaced out the theme of each book. Book 4, the last chapter, really blew! How can you write a series, only to cram every conceivable answer into the last few paragraphs? It thing the experience, cheapness the author and soured me on reading another book, never the less,a series of hers ever again. If you can't take the time to write a couple more chapters, then so be it.

Mating the Alpha

This series of books were wonderful. It just goes to show opposite attract but big sexy shifters and humans mixing has never been heard of before and is banned by the shutterbug times change and to make sure the clams continue into the future shifter and humans have to mix but it's not as simple.as that when you have me scientist wanting to make hybrid. The only thing l.didn't like was how the last book ended l think there could have been a little .more to it

Alphas are no joke

Each story was thrilling and kept you in the edge of your seat. Sometimes, it is worth following tradition of it the end result can fulfill a woman's fantasy. I can truly say each heroine was happy with the end result. All the stories were not and heavy. If your not feeling the mood, these adventures will definitely wake up your girlie parts. I would recommend this series to everyone.

Delightful shifter stories. Four tales of different shifter clans who search for a cure to the decline of children being born among their people. Some don’t agree with the solutions, which causes problems for others. Four alphas who finally find their mates, must overcome this prejudice as well as defeat a human threat, before they can find their happy ever after. I enjoyed this series.

I absolutely loved this box set. You just keep on giving us what we want to read and keep us hooked until the very end. Knowing what happened in book was a great lead up to last 3 books. I hope that we keep on getting more books just like these ones. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.

A very good boxset. Each book has an alpha finding his mate but there are some weird traditions to claiming his mate.
There is also the problem of solving the mystery of why pregnant females are losing there babies.
Then there’s Biotech kidnapping different shifters to experiment on.
Four books and four excellent reads.

These books all revolve around the issue of shifters trying to resolve issues and provide their clans a safe future. There are some interesting storylines.

I wouldn't call them necessarily reverse harems in the sense that the women have multiple mates but they do have involvement with multiple members of the clans.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

I really liked this shifter reverse harem read. The stories are fast-paced with plenty of drama and suspense. The characters and steamy chemistry and the stories really draw you in. I was hooked from beginning to end. An entertaining collection.

Very Creative

A great spin on the shifter world while keeping to a traditional theme as well. It was an alright theme on the reverse harem side, I personally like a more permanent harem in my reading but they were really good books.

This decidedly adult exploration of the struggle of an endangered minority takes about four days to read. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.

Dreadful

The writing was terrible. The story kept on changing and ideas that one person was supposed to have come up with were then someone else’s idea. Don’t waste your time!!!

A good box set

Not a bad read. Characters are likable. Could use a little fleshing out of storyline and a smoother flow better books. But still very readable

Not very good

Someone good story line but the writing itself was very childlike - couldn’t get through it and I usually never don’t finish a book!

I was extremely frustrated with the back and forth narrative. The story started taking off and then boom it ended. It felt unfinished and I decided not to finish the collection.
