Taming the Heart #9

Taming a Wicked Rake

Rate this book
A wicked rake and a ruined lady…

Lady Madeline Maddox has a secret. Actually, Maddie has several. The worst one isn’t that she accidentally kissed a known rake, Lord Adam Ridgely, in the garden at the Everston’s Ball. Nor is it that the editor of the London Standard published her scandal for all of London. Her greatest error was sending a series of letters to that same publisher detailing her deepest desires for social change. Even though she sent essays under a nom de plume, they have the power to bring real harm, not just to herself, but to her family as well. But how can she protect herself and them as a ruined woman? And why can’t she stay away from the rake who ruined her? Lord Ridgely will only make her problems worse, won’t he?

The Earl of Ridgely learned long ago to keep his dalliances short and sweet. He has no use for emotional attachments, they only provide unnecessary complication. But when there is a case of mistaken identity in the garden and he inadvertently ruins a respectable lady, Adam has no choice but to offer marriage to Maddie. Except that the duke’s daughter grows more and more interesting with each passing day and her past… well it’s not so innocent. In fact, the lady needs his help. The question is, can he give her what she requires without losing his heart?

Oops! Lady Madeline Maddox brazenly kissed a stranger in the garden, even more disturbing, it was the wrong stranger. NOT that she went around kissing men, but never in her wildest dreams would she have thought she would have kissed the notorious rake, the Earl of Ridgely and now she is ruined. The man she thought she was kissing has also turned out NOT to be who he claimed to be, a man whom she has shared her rather unheard of thoughts regarding women in society. Yes, she is ruined, but an offer of marriage from the Earl could save her reputation, but Madeline wants more.

Can Adam and Madeline form more than a union of propriety? If Tammy Andresen has anything to say about it, Madeline may just be the one woman able to take on TAMING A WICKED RAKE!

Another feisty female, independent beyond the times, a damaged and footloose rake and that crazy thing called love! Another fun, engaging romance with just enough spice to savor!

She thought he was the man she was suppose to meet. It was so dark she could not really make him out but he called her name and his voice alone sent shivers. She was sure it was Charles, the newpaper man she had been submitting articles too and letters as they got to know each other. Maddie calmed when he drew her closer and could feel the connection. As he kissed her, she knew life would never be the same after tonight.
Oh no, I'd say it shockinly would not because the man that held her in his arms was none other than Lord Kingsley, rake extraordinaire, that she had just met in the ballroom. But she did not know that at the time. Unfortunately Charles had seen her in his arms as he later whispered that through her carraige window, while she was waiting for her brother. Oh yes, a tangled web ensued!
I have to confess, I just want to tell you about the entire story, it was so delicious, but you need to read it for yourself. Kinglsey, was sin itself and Maddie was just so beautiful and really wanted to find a true love, someone not just wanting her fortune, but her.
Intrigue, hidden secrets, jealousy and blackmail and of course an undeniable attraction that just might grow into something more.
I want to say this is one of my favorite stories of this series, but I am sure I said that about the last one! What can I say! Love them all!

Tammy Andresen’s Taming the Heart series was the series that introduced me to the author, and since the start I have been addicted. I’ve been eager for the next generation of stories, those telling the children’s stories, and am happy to power through them. With Taming a Wicked Rake, however, I found I wasn’t quite as in love with the story as I have been with the prior books in the series.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is another great addition to the series, but it didn’t quite pack the same punch as the prior books. It was a short read with plenty packed into it, as all Tammy Andresen stories are, but I was expecting a wee bit more from this one. Due to this, my rating is a three-point-five-star rating. I debated whether I would round up or down, but, in the end, I opted for down.

The reason for my rounding down was the predictability of the story. Our leading lady was a bit too naïve for my liking, which resulted in a storyline that happens far too often. I’m accustomed to a wee bit more from Tammy Andersen and had been expecting a wee bit more from our leading lady. Don’t get me wrong it was a fun read, certainly worth reading if you’re a fan of the series, but this one is not my favourite of the books.

I’m super eager for the next book, though.

A well written totally captivating read which I read in a sitting. Strong characters who are well portrayed in this long novella. It could be read on its own but the whole series is delightful & we are now reading the stories of the children of the Duke & Duchess. The story flows efortlessly & I was drawn in from the start & left with a smile on my face.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

What happens when you kiss the wrong man? Read Taming a Wicked Rake
by Tammy Andersen the 9th book in the Taming the Duke's Heart series to find out. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. I never grow tired of reading Tammy’s books and she has the most delightful characters. Her stories are original and really give you the feel for the regency era. This story has scandal, blackmail, evil, a rake, kindness, writing for the newspapers, wanting to change the world, loving brothers, awful parents, understanding and love. I highly recommend you read this book!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Tammy Andresen has written another delightful book with marvelous main characters that will win you over in the first few pages.

Lady Madeline Maddox is the sister of a duke, well dowered, has had 6 seasons & is secretly writing essays under an alias to a London publisher & also letters regarding her desires to bring more rights for women. But Maddie has even a worse secret, she unknowingly kissed a known rake in the dark gardens at the Everston's Ball - Lord Adam Kingsley, an Earl that has had arrangements with 1/2 of the Ton's widows. The publisher is blackmailing her after he alerted the morning news to seeing her & an unknown gentlemen kissing in the gardens & will publish her letters about women's rights if she won't marry him.

Adam Kingsley, the Earl of Ridgely knows how is feels to be days away from marriage & having his fiance announce to the entire family & his friend that she is expecting his friends child & ending their engagement. Since then, he has never let himself become emotionally involved with any female - they both filled one another's needs & when the time came, they left on amicable terms. That was before in accidently kissed Maddie in the gardens which was a case of mistaken identity on her part but then the news tells of her secret meeting & he unintentionally ruins virtuous lady.
He may be a rake but Adam knows honor will have him offering marriage of convenience to Maddie.

Every day Adam is around the duke's daughter, Maddie is another day she pulls down his emotion blocking walls & she finds him the perfect man for her. Maddie not only needs a husband to kill the gossip in the Ton buy she needs help to protect herself from the publisher who is a very dangerous man & won't give up on having Maddie & her dowry. Can Adam help her without giving his heart to this interesting, beautiful lady?

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

THIS WAS PERFECT. SHORT AND SWEET.
ALTHOUGH I DON'T LIKE LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT STORIES, IT WORKED EXCEEDINGLY WELL HERE.

HERO may be a rake but deep down he just wants to be loved. On his prowl to secure the flavour of the month, he bumps into his future wife, a beautiful siren who jolts him to life and has him hankering for a taste. Finding her in the darken gardens, he steals a kiss only only to realise that she has mistaken him for another man. Burn! When word gets out that she's been seen kissing a mystery man, he makes an offer. Him! A rake! What the hell was he thinking? Yet the idea of this woman belonging to anyone else but him just drives him mad, especially when an upset suitor endangers her life with blackmail. Adam isn't hard not to like. He's so damn sweet and charming with Maddie, it's obvious they are going to be a great couple.

HEROINE is open and loving. Her story is way more intriguing than Bar's story. All her life, she's reknowned for her beauty when she wants a man to appreciate her for herself as well. Thus it got her writing and exchanging letters with a man she decides is her match and agrees to meet up at a ball only to kiss the wrong man. Her other beau caught the act and blackmails her with it, leading her to ruin and eventually being engaged to Adam. Maddie isn't hard not to like as well. She's kind, determined and full of heart.

OVERALL a sweet treat indeed!

Dubbed “The Siren”, very few people realise that beyond the beautiful face there is an intelligent woman with deep desires. Lady Madeline longs for a marriage where she will be valued for whom she is, one where her husband will respect her views and share his with her too. Unfortunately, this results in her making an error of judgment that lands her in more hot water than she ever anticipated when she keeps her rendezvous in the rose garden. Adam Ridgely has been badly burned and has absolutely no intention of ever allowing himself to be pulled into the marriage trap. That is until he unwittingly compromises the beautiful Lady Madeline. However, one touch of her lips and it is as if the past never existed. This book is well written and has all the very best components of a Regency romance: a strong and very likable tarnished hero; a beautiful lady with an independent mind; a plot against her and an attraction that cannot be denied. I, unfortunately, started reading this story after dinner, resulting in my being severely sleep deprived the next day! It is one of those books that lingers in your mind long after you have closed it. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Taming a Wicked Rake is the ninth book in the Taming the Duke’s Heart. This was a short, sweet romance and another great book in the series. Lady Madeline was supposed to meet Charles, the editor of the newspaper she is secretly writing essays for. Instead she finds Adam, Lord Kingsley, who steals a kiss in the garden. They are seen but supposedly no one knows who the man was. Madeline tries to keep it a secret that it was Adam because she doesn’t want to be married to a rake with his reputation. Adam offers for her and as they get closer to the wedding their attraction to each other grows. But Charles is determined to have Madeline. Will Madeline and Adam get their HEA? The book was well written, fast paced and an easy book to read. The author was able to write a great story even with the book being so short.

I think this is probably one of my favorite books I’ve read from this author. This was a shorter read, and I think my only real complaint is it could have been a bit longer, there were a few areas that seemed a bit rushed. This is a fun and romantic historical, and the characters were easy to enjoy. There was just enough intrigue to keep me guessing what the bad guy was going to do, and I cheered the strength of Maddie. All in all, this is a good story for a quick afternoon read.

The author has a fantastic way of creating characters that makes a reader want to hear their story, and enough of a romantic build up with suspense to keep you turning the pages.

Taming A Wicked Rake is a fantastic historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has given readers a well-written book loaded with phenomenal characters. Madeline is going to meet with the editor that she's been sending her essays to at a ball. When she mistakenly kisses Adam in the dark garden they were watched. When it's posted in the news that Madeline was seen kissing someone her reputation is in tatters. Madeline and Adam's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved reading Taming A Wicked Rake and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. Taming A Wicked Rake is book 9 in the Taming the Duke's Heart Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another rake reformed. Even though the development of the story was predictable I very much enjoyed reading it. I liked that Maddie was standing up for what she believed in even if she was a little naive at times. And Adam, oh Adam, is the kind of rake I would marry in a heartbeat. All in all, it's a great story.

Accidents happen in love

Maddie wants a new world where women are in charge of their choices. Adam is a rake who accidentally stumbles into a kiss. This was a beautiful story, written with romance and misadventure. You can feel their loss and pain, their fears and doubts. You will love these two.

Wonderful book!

The book about Maddie and Alex started out shaky for them and it ended wonderful. There hasn't been a book I have read of Ms. Andersen 's that wasn't great. Please read all of her Regency book's. Cyndi

Maddie is seeking social change, and Adam is a rake who has been burned by women in the past. They're the unlikeliest of couples, but they work so well together. I enjoyed their story.

Tammy Andersen can write a very good love story. I've read several and this one may be her best. If there is a better one I want to read it as well. I would recommend this book to anyone.
