Cora Kenborn is a USA Today Bestselling and Top 50 Amazon Bestselling author whose readers have affectionately dubbed her the “queen of plot twists that’ll ruin your day in the best way.”

Best known for her dark mafia romances, Cora has an insatiable bad boy obsession, which she believes started in the third grade when she chose Bruce over Todd in the Sweet Valley High books. To this day, give her an unhinged antihero who falls hard for a feisty heroine, and you’ve won her heart.

As a native North Carolinian, Cora claims the domestic Southern Belle gene skipped right over her. Her villain origin story was the day she tried making her mother’s famous biscuits and gravy, only to turn them into paste-covered dough bricks. That’s when she decided fiction was better than reality, and microwaved mac and cheese counted as fine dining.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five Stars!

I had some small issues with this one at the beginning but it was so compelling and twisty that they didn’t end up detracting from the whole. Sometimes in a book, I can ignore some missing background information, but when it keeps coming to mind that if it were real life, something could never happen like it is portrayed, then it begins to bother me. This is a retelling of Anastasia, a story reminiscent of My Fair Lady, where a con man is trying to pass off an imposter as a lady, or in this case the long lost heir of murdered Hollywood Royalty.

Dominic McCallum is the owner of an entertainment news website and his business is in jeopardy of going under. He wants to save it by producing Alexandra Romanov to the public. Alexandra Romanov was the eight year old daughter of Hollywood royalty and when her family was murdered the little girl was not found with them. Speculation over the 15 years since the crime is at an all time high and there have been several girls that have claimed to be her, all have been disproved.

Dominic meets a waitress in a bar named Angel who looks just like the age progressed picture of Alexandra. Angel is struggling to make ends meet and agrees to come forth as the lost heiress. Angel is a failed actress and Dominic is the reason for her situation. Since he wrote a story years ago that outed a famous Director who was abusing women. At the time, Angel (under a different name) was set to be the lead actress in that Director’s upcoming film, and Hollywood assumed she got the role on her knees.

What kept bothering me at the beginning of the book was that there weren’t really any Henry Higgens/Eliza Doolittle moments. By that I mean, there seemed to be no preparation before they went live with the story. Dominic didn’t even ask Angel about her background. I mean if you were going to try to get a million dollar reward for the return of a lost heiress using an actress, wouldn’t you at least ask if the girl has relatives, friends, former school mates, that will come out of the woodwork and say they’ve known her all her life and she can’t be Alexandra? Dominic puts out a press release and has Angel in front of Paparazzi before he even asks about her background.

Though like I said, as the book progressed and got better and better, I just shoved those thoughts out of my head. I think in the end the stuff I thought was missing was just inconsequential in the greater scheme of things. The book wasn’t about how they perpetrated the crime, but what happens after the world believes Angel is really Alexandra. That story was brilliant.

There were so many characters and storylines that it seems like it would be complex, but it is always so great how authors can take a bunch of different and complicated storylines and have them weave their way through a book and tie up coherently in the end. This was one of those books that all came together so well and everything I thought was predictable was turned on its tail by the end. I mean, some of those things turned out as I expected, but some didn’t and even things I predicted ended up blowing me away because they were surrounded by other surprises.

The romance between Dominic and Angel was killer. It was super steamy and I would give it five out of five flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. There were just the right amount of intimate scenes to add to the book without taking it over. This one was more story focused than romantic and the storylines were so good. Angel’s past, Dominic’s criminal past, the Romanov murders, Dominic’s reason for going after revenge on the studio executives, Angel’s acting career, and more. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book.

This came incredibly close to being a DNF for me. It just took far too long to get into the actual meat of the story and pick up pace. In fact I must have skim read/totally skipped at least a third of this book, and probably getting on for more like 40% of it. And I didn't really miss anything important. It was only cat killing curiosity and a couple of 3 star reviews mentioning the great ending, that had me bothering to read the last third. And that last third was amazing.

Brutal honesty says that this book needed a lot trimming from it, in order to improve the pace. I also couldn't give it 3 stars because, whilst the ending was jam-packed action with more twisty turns than a world-class roller coaster ride, it was a little overdone. Plus the whole "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, he walks into mine. That was just far too big a coincidence/stretch of the imagination.

Each character was somehow connected to everyone else, and some of those connections were either too convenient, a little unbelievable or were just plain unnecessary . It was like a game of Six Degree's of Separation and a visual showing of those links would look somewhat like a spiders web. Definitely a case of where less would have been more.

The overall writing and story flow was good, with me able to follow and understand what was happening. Dialogue feels realistic and descriptions are nicely detailed. However the pace is just too slow, the story is too dragged out and for a long time reading this felt like hard work.

I have read the author previously and really enjoyed that book but this one simply didn't offer me the ability to bond with the characters and believe in their emotions. Others have loved it so whilst it's clearly not for me, you may well enjoy it.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit and was excited to read this as its a contemporary retelling of one mine and my daughter's favourite films Anastasia.
Loosely based on the story of the tragic Romanov's this by-line captured my imagination and attention instantly.
This really was a fascinating web of intrigue and mystery with threads entangled so deeply it all seemed to be built on an empire of misdirections and half-truths.
A dark tale that deals with broken pieces and fragments this showcases the rotten underbelly and corruption of success.
Its told dual POV so we get to see both of these imperfect individuals and learn what makes them tick.
Angel is the girl who has agreed to step into the spotlight and be the face behind the tragedy.
She has no idea the media storm shes now stepping in to and unleashing and Dominic is the one leading this sacrificial lamb to the slaughter.
He's perfectly aware of what he's setting in motion with his actions but due to his own life unravelling the end for him justify the means even if his pesky conscience is whispering otherwise.
Angel herself did seem collected and together and all attitude originally but beneath this sass lies a fragile and damaged psyche one that starts to gradually emerge once her new life takes a hold and digs its claws in peeling back the layers to reveal the truth underneath.
Dominic did at first seem such a selfish out for himself douche but the more we dig under his skin the more we learn and there is so much going on beneath with him.
At his core, Dominic is hugely protective his armour may be a lot tarnished but deep down he cares greatly.
So my one complaint here was that this did seem to take a while to get to the point.
I felt this was much longer than it needed to be and could have done with some condensing.
I loved the start and the finish but the middle did drag slightly.
I still enjoyed this a lot this was fabulously written and the flow was great I also had no trouble connecting to the story itself.
I also appreciated how all this was tied-up neatly and loved the finale.

Reading Starlet I was wondering why did I have to go through that and wait for after 40% of the story so that my interest would be intrigued????
If I can not get invested in a story from the start there is no reason for giving myself a hard time... Dnf @ 28%

I actually haven't read an Anastasia retelling before and I think Cora Kenborn did a beautiful job with it! This story was dark and twisted and utterly heart breaking... and sweet? Kenborn illustrated what some may see as the ugly and unseemly underbelly of life in Hollywood. As they say... not all that glitters is gold. Honestly, with how shattered and confused this story made me feel, I was startled by the warmth and kindness that blossomed amidst the depravity.

Dominic - a celebrity news heavy hitter, he had hit rock bottom and he had plans to get back on top. Those plans included finding a missing person, the lone survivor of a horrific homicide. There's a $1 million reward and there's a lot he can do with that money. When he happens upon a sarcastic, confident waitress in a rundown bar, he thinks he's found his shot. Little did he know how much this slip of a girl would change him.

Angel - a girl who doesn't remember her past, she's found her way in the world. She doesn't have much, but she does have hope. Hope that things will get better. Hope for her future happiness. Hope that won't quit. When Dominic offers her an opportunity that could bring some of her dreams to reality, she grabs on with both hands. How was she supposed to know that it would be a breeding ground for her nightmares? How could the glitz and glamor of Hollywood hide the most wicked and evil of deeds? How far would she have to go to find her true happiness? What would she have to sacrifice?

I found this story to be a bit too long and it seemed to drag in parts. The writing was beautiful though, so while I didn't love this story, I can tell that Kenborn is a brilliant storyteller.

Starlet by Cora Kenborn is definitely not a fairytale. This is a vicious and mindblowing attack on my heart and soul. This is the torturing, dark, depraved and twisted journey through sins and salvation. This unique story left me in a mess of emotions!

Angel Smith needs money to move from the hellish job as waitress in a dingy bar in Chula Vista. Dominic McCallum needs money to get back his once hugely successful news outlet Behind The News from bankruptcy after Hollywood's king came after him for exposing the king's certain tastes. And another Hollywood royal family the Romanovs are offering one million dollars to find their sole living heir Alexandra. Who probably survived a massacre fifteen years back. Angel and Dominic will stage a big con. But some pieces are not matching. What are the flashbacks and dreams Angel keep on having? How does she know things Dominic didn't tell her? Why does certain words by Dominic triggers memories? Is Dominic hiding secrets? Are they in danger?

I will say this story will shock you. There is no way you can prepare for this mindfuck. I thought I was going crazy as this beyond complex story unveiled. I cannot believe the author took me through that twister. Dominic and Angel started as friends for monetary benefits but soon they feel there is something special between them. Dominic has a dark past. Life wasn't kind and he did whatever he could for surviving. And that includes some shady things. Oh wow I just love this tormented, bossy, broken and dangerous man. And I have no words for Angel. This woman's body and mind have been abused, bruised, destroyed and defiled. But she came back each time. Like a Phoenix. The Author took me inside her fractured mind and shattered heart. She is incredibly strong and resilient and brave and beautiful and a whole lot of imperfect. Angel and Dominic's story is written in the stars. They faced Hollywood's politics, the press' attacks, the mafia, the death traps, the mind games and everything together. And then at the end, the author just made everything crashing down. I stopped reading because I was hyperventilating so badly! I went back and re read to be sure she ACTUALLY PULLED THE STUNT. What an epic conclusion!

Suspense, action, Hollywood, love, lust and revenge everything mixed into this enticing and captivating creation by Cora Kenborn. Starlet is an example of some next level of genius writing. A dark romance that you cannot miss in 2020!

Starlet takes us on a journey through the dark underbelly of Hollywood, where secrets are currency and the truth is a dirty word. This book consumed me, grabbing me from the first page, shaking the heck out of me and I still don’t think I’ve fully recovered!!

The wit and pace of Cora Kenborn’s writing is a joy to experience. It just seems to leap off the pages, tugging smiles and producing tears when you least expect it. The characters are haunted, intelligent and multi-faceted. The story was breath-taking (literally!), the twists and turns will leave you stunned, and Dominic is the most gloriously sadistic alphahole I’ve ever come across! My God, that man…. He does things to me that I’m not sure are legal!

(As an aside, as someone who worked on Hollywood movies for decades, this book totally nailed it on that front. The research was impeccable)

In short, I LOVED the wicked bones of this book, and it’s shooting straight to the top of my 2020 list.

Starlet blew my mind.

I'll admit, I went into this book with HIGH expectations. It was on my "looking forward to" list for 2020, and Cora Kenborn did not disappoint me. Actually, she completely obliterated my expectations and left me speechless.

This is a dark retelling of Anastasia which is one of my favorite historical tales (see notes above about high expectations). Cora took the story and twisted into a tale of Hollywood decadence, underscored it with a heavy dose of mystery, and sprinkled a sexy hot romance on top. The result was a brilliantly crafted story that captivated my attention from page one until the end.

The twists and turns in this tale are incredible.
The romance between Dominic and Alexandra/Angel is hot and believable.
The mystery is riveting.
And the storytelling is pure fire.

I don't just give this book five stars, I give it seven out of five because seven is my favorite number and this book has landed itself on my favorite shelf for life.

Absolutely incredible. Strongly recommend for those who enjoy suspenseful dark romance with thorough storytelling. There isn't a dull page or a slow point in this book; it just flows and flows, and I loved every minute.

♥️🌼”The Biggest Mistake I’ll Never Regret”🌼♥️
STARLET is Cora Kenborn’s addition to the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, and it’s her version of the classic, Anastasia....STARLET is not an easy book to read...it’s dark and scary, but I couldn’t put it down and my stomach is still tied in knots...I‘m not going to re-tell the whole book here, because (1)You should have the pleasure of discovering this book yourself, and (2)I would never find a place to stop....I can promise you STARLET is one of Cora Kenborn’s best books, if not the best, to date, and trust me, you want to read it....♥️🌼
Dominic, Dominic, Dominic......He is just such an as-h-le....but he’s one of the hottest as-h-les you’ll ever meet...I’m not going to tell you what a good person he is, or how sweet he is, just because he’s the H, because he’s definitely not either of those things....He’s selfish and narcissistic and shady as....well, you know...But, you will still fall in love with him...because...well...he’s Dominic....and there really is a big ole’ heart beating somewhere in that gorgeous chest....♥️🌼
Angel is a different type h for us...She’s stronger than she appears, and she’s survived a childhood no kid should have to experience...Angel’s mind was fragmented by the tragedies she’s locked away, and she’s spent most of her life trying to...just be...Angel is one of the most complex characters I’ve read...and I love her...♥️🌼
Obviously, child abuse and mental health issues aren’t sexy or fun or happy subjects....And we have all had some experience with some form of mental illness, whether it’s a friend, a family member or ourselves....I admire and respect Cora Kenborn, even more, for, fearlessly, tackling such sensitive subjects and kicking them where it hurts..... Her blood, sweat and tears are splattered on every single page of STARLET....She’s just a RockStar... Saying she’s done an excellent job writing his book is a bit of an understatement......♥️🌼

Can I please give TEN STARS?!! STARLET, WOWZA! Hold onto your hats for this ride! I'm still breathless!

STARLET, words off the page and into your heart and soul! So moved by this gripping tale, I need to re-read immediately - IT'S THAT GOOD!
Truly a MASTERPIECE by Cora Kenborn.

Without spoilers (since you need to unwind this dark, deliciousness yourself,) STARLET is way beyond a good summer read and one of, if not my favorite books of all time! The lead characters, Dominic and Angel, breathlessly take you through their heartwrenching lives in a gritty, page turning story. It twists and turns so effortlessly - you'll think you have the plot figured out while, holding your breath, and it veers seamlessly into an 'ooohhhh' different, unexpected path-EXPERTLY WRITTEN FROM BEGINNING TO END. Even ter the last page, I'm still deeply invested in this story, processing, spent in the best of ways I could hope to be emotionally and mentally engaged within a story.

Just INCREDIBLE! From one of the best selling authors, CORA KENBORN again is able to weave words into magic - gripping, action packed storyline with heated, passionate characters - can’t get enough from Cora Kenborn and STARLET will leave you not just wanting more, actually needing her next brilliant work. Just Fabulous!

You know when you start a book and can just feel it in your heart, your bones, your soul, that it will be epic? Well, Starlet is that book. I don’t even know where to begin with my review to bring this book the justice it deserves and not give away any spoilers. Dominic and Angel are my new power couple, who will forever be in my world. This story takes you on such a dark, twisty, unbelievable ride of which you never want to end. It made me emotional, and I loved every minute of it.

These characters are so perfectly described by this author that I can envision them in my mind. Dominic is rough around the edges, crass and sometimes cruel, but you can’t help but fall in love with him. And Angel, is a strong, beautiful young woman who you just know if she was real, you would want to be friends with. There are some parts that may be difficult for some to read, but let me just say, everything in this story was handled with grace and dignity.

I have read books before by this author, but this one is by far my absolute favorite. She has proven to me again, how incredible she is, her words are perfection and the story is just plain brilliant. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m telling you to run, don’t walk, and read this phenomenal story.

Amazing dark retelling of Anastasia

Strap in and get ready to feel all the feels. ALL. THE. FEELS. I have never been so invested in a story before. I was hook from the first line until the last. I stayed up all night reading because this book was that dang good; talk about unputdownable.

Angel and Dominic's chemistry sizzles off the pages. And baby Dominic will have you fanning yourself like it's 100 degrees inside. Cora Kenborn did the damn thang with this one; in the words of RuPaul she slayed the house down boots! This is the first retelling of Anastasia, besides Disney, that I've run across and it is definitely not a powder puff retelling. This book is gritty, raw, and powerful. It's one of those stories that stay with you long after the book has ended. Bravo Mrs. Kenborn 👏👏👏 a definite top ten 5 star must read book.

This was a new to me author that I've been excited to try as I have heard many good things about, and even from just the blurb and the trigger warning, I could already tell why. I was instantly hooked by this book, trying to figure out hidden answers in confusing statements.

I was puzzled and second guessing my guesses from page to page and the further I got I realized how skilled this author is and I probably won't find out the full picture till the end of the book. Although I don't normally like being so confused, it definitely kept me reading.

The suspense/plot really made the book as I struggled connecting to most of the characters as couldn't figure out their end game. By 70% though you'll be so glad you stuck with it as your mind will be blown and you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't trust yourself on some of the answers sooner. Up until that point I was sure it would be a solid 4 star rating but the last 30% is worth all the stars.

***4 Stars***

A modern day retelling of Anastasia with all the hoopla that comes with finding the ‘lost heir’?

Sure, I’m down and I have to say that I really enjoyed how the author brought it to life in modern day Hollywood, where power is everything and there are more than enough people willing to do anything to get and maintain it.

I really liked Angel and Dominic. Both have lived hard lives and still are. Angel, for all that she’s been through, has a good heart and with a moral compass that may be a little off track, but still rules how she wants to live her life. Dominic was interesting. He may appear to have no moral compass, and at times likes to believe that he doesn’t, he actually does when it counts. Their journey ~ and they both go on MANY journeys, not just to their HEA ~ was all kinds of twisty turny goodness. The chemistry between them was intense from the start and though they both attempted to ignore it, they both failed miserably, and thank god they did because despite how chaotic their road was, they were perfect for each other.

I’ll admit that I am one of those people who have something of a sick fascination with what happened to the Romanov family and have done my fair share of reading all about their history and the various stories of the many women who came forward as Anastasia, so I found this re-telling to be quite an enjoyable ride. I think the setting was perfect and I really liked how she kept the bones of story, but added twists and turns that made it her own. And speaking of twists…some of them are doozies and a couple, a couple had me going WHOA. My one issue was the pacing of the story. While I was hooked, there were times where things that dragged for me and had me speed reading a bit until it felt like the story was picking up again.

As for the supporting cast of characters, they were all very well written ~ no matter which parts they played. I loved Violet, Luciano and Javier and wouldn’t have minded being able to spend a lot more time with them.

Wow! Just wow, is all that I have to say at the moment. This book wasn't what I expected at all. This author seems to have the ability to blindside you with her stories and make you look at things so differently. It makes you second guess your views. It makes you see situation differently. Her books aren't simple stories and the love stories in them, aren't always easy.

Now I really don't want to say anything in respects of the story, the characters or the outcome. The blurb gives as much away as it possibly can. I fear any words I write here could completely blow the story wide open and spoil so much. However I will say. It's a shocking and sad tale that will leave you stunned and emotionally drained.

Know that I loved this book and totally recommend it. I am purposely being vague as I feel that you need to have the same experience and enjoyment as I did. With every word and page that is read. This book is a huge contender for my book of the year.

Ok WTF!!!! I have read every single book in this collection, and I will say this one takes the cake on mind games. I just finished this book and my mind is spinning.. I mean I am dizzy from all the damn spinning. If you are looking for a book that will literally fu$k with your mind look no further. Cora Kenborn leads us down a dark and twisted path that zigs and zags throughout the whole book.
I will say that even though I gave it 4 stars there were parts that really drug for me, but she makes up for it with all the mind playing that she does to us. I know this review is all over the place, but I am trying to figure out just how to word this review without giving anything away. There is so much that takes place in this book. There is a twisted kind of love story that takes place. I'm all about dark and a little unhinged love story. Dominic and Angel's story is not for the fate of heart.

Cora Kenborn hit the jackpot with this skillfully composed spin, laying down a killer storyline and riveting plot, making Scarlet one dynamic book. Let me just say her characters Angel and Dominic will have you hooked in an instant and take you along on a journey you will not soon forget. Dark, emotional (tissues needed), and so much more. Kenborn’s writing is crisp and refreshing, mixing in just the right amount of tension with non-stop action. I found myself stopping at the end of each chapter, almost dreading what was going to happen next. I would highly recommend this book. I would give it way over 5 stars too.

A story that truly kept me on my toes! Starlet is a dark retelling of Anastasia, and it was a tale that I was unfamiliar with. I fully submerged into the intrigue and angst of the story, quickly connecting with both Angel and Dominic.

There was occasions where I did start to question threads of the storyline and kept thinking there is no way they’d get away with the plan to fool millions, but Cora Kenborn had it all under control and weaved a story full of suspense and genius twists, that by the time I reached the last word, I was entirely satisfied and literally said “wow” out loud.

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for this Starlet.

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a Star? Then Starlet is a story where the phrase 'Be Careful What You Wish For' is very apt. This story delves into the Sinister side of Hollywood where the streets aren't always paved with gold.

Cora Kenborn thrusts us into a dark and seedy world full of violence, secrets, lies, sin and depravity. It's full of twists and turns and shocking revelations that'll make your toes curl. I loved the mystery and suspense of it all, it was a thrilling multi layered and deliciously dark fairytale.

OMFG!! Dominic.....he's as ruthless and devious as they come.  A man with no scruples when it comes to getting what he wants. He's very charismatic and seductive but cold and calculated too.
Angel is head strong and determined I liked her grit. She's a very complex and intriguing character, I loved her to bits.

The intense situations in this book ripped my fuxking heart out at times. There were so many overwhelming emotions to the story. It was brutal, passionate and very powerful. Dominic and Angel consumed every part of me and I loved every minute of their breath taking journey.

I'm just gonna finish by saying I have massive love for Luciano in this book, he is such a fantastic character. 🖤

Holy hot and crazy 6 stars. Yeah, she just had to pick my favorite number to, ahem, mess with in this one, but I am already digressing in the second sentence of this review. Might be a record quickness, but Starlet is just that kind of mind, ahem, mess. Full of contradictions that, ahem, messed with me in all the best ways.

I'm not crazy about actual fairy tales (heh, digressing again already, but for months a line from a song from my favorite band has been haunting me - I don't believe in fairy tales and no one wants to go to he...ck - guess it was just waiting for me to get my eyes on Starlet) but I have a really soft spot for the modernizations. And, I *really* love the darker twists and turns. Not the FSOG type so much (which, as I have said since the beginning, Anne Rice did so much better eons prior with her Sleeping Beauty trilogy, but, yeah, digression disease....but I guess that was probably the first time a fairy tale spin caught my attention.) Then there are the Romanov's. I have been intrigued by them for as long as I can remember. A story destined for Hollywood spin if ever there was one, but no one could come close to spinning it quite the way Ms. Kenborn has done with this book.

I have been a fan of Cora Kenborn's since I stumbled across the first Lords of Lyre book shortly after it's publication. Rockstars always draw me in like that, but it kept my attention for so many other reasons that I have followed this talented author ever since. Whether she's making me laugh myself to tears in inappropriate settings (you try to read Swamp Happens in a doctor's office waiting room....) or keeping me on the edge of my seat with the Carrera Cartel and everything in between in her standalones, she always keeps me devouring the next words.

Starlet did even more. Having just finished it, I am considering something I never do...an immediate reread. There is simply no way that I caught every little thing as I rushed through the roller coaster of these pages. And, quite frankly, I am not willing to walk away from Angel and Dominic just yet. Love, hate, fear, sadness, joy, triumph, sex - can't forget the sexy or the twisted... it's all there, all beautifully twisted. I am intentionally not dwelling too much on the plot; I would rather you jump into this story blind. So many twists and turns...some you will expect, others hit much more randomly, and all will not end quite the way you think they will. This one will haunt you far beyond taking your eyes off the page.

Grab a bottle of your favorite wine and a nice Mason jar...you will break the stem from the tension if you try this with a traditional wineglass... but you might as well have a traditional hangover to go with the book one this will leave you with.

HOLY WOW! This was one heck of a wild, heart-pounding, angsty, twisted, and suspense-filled ride that left my mind reeling and my mouth gaping open. This is my favorite dark read of 202o and definitely a top 2020 read. I am not going into detail because this book is too awesome to be spoiled.

Starlet is a dark and sinister retelling of Anastasia. It is a dark and twisted tale that is shrouded in secrets, lies, deceit, and mystery. It will leave your heart beating fast and mouth gaping open, wondering what is going on. Then just when you think you know what is going on, BAM! You are thrown another curveball. Dominic and Angel's love story was very unconventional and definitely twisted but it was sexy and romantic at the same time. Their sexual tension was palpable. Their coupling was sizzling and steamy. Their love story was EPIC!

If you love a dark read, this is a MUST-READ! It was such an incredible and unique story that I devoured in one day. The plot was amazing! It was so well-written and perfectly paced. I felt as if I was living the story. The emotions and feels leap and pour off of the pages. I was hanging on the edge of my seat wondering what was going on and what would happen next. The characters were wonderful, engaging, and captivating. It was enthralling from start to finish. I inhaled this book. I have such a major book hangover. The only problem was that I hated to see it end. This book will stay with me for some time to come. This book consumed me, heart and soul! This was my first read by Cora Kenborn but it won't be the last!

Starlet…
The story of Dominic and Angel in the sinister retelling of Anastasia.
Usually I have so much to say about Cora Kenborns books but this, this one completely stumped me. I’m lost for words at how amazing this book is. I literally spent the whole day reading and refused to stop until I read those infamous words ‘the end.’
I shouted, I sent messages, my heart stopped and I’m sure I had to remove my stomach from my throat so I could take a breath.

Starlet is the story of Dominic and Angel. You’ll fall in love with Dominic. He’s a ruthless journalist who’ll do just about anything to a story no matter what debris he leaves behind. Dominic McCallum is one dark hero I won’t forget.
And Angel is like none of her other heroines. She’s feisty and sexy and has a massive heart. I may have a little girl crush on Angel.

In true Cora fashion we have mafia, suspense, a hang on to the edge of your seat ride and more twists than a chicane. It’s dark and it’s purely brilliant! The one liners in this book were amazing and so were the quotes.

Tell a lie long enough and just like sand, before you know it you don’t remember the truth. Wear a mask long enough and no one knows your real face.

I won’t cry. Tears are a tool not a weakness.

“Well, rub my lamp and call me genie, baby.”

This book will make you gasp, maybe shed a tear, but most of all you’ll be astounded at the story and how it pans out. This author will amaze you with her talent, it’s so beautifully written. I’d read it again in a heartbeat!

So on that note I’m going to leave it there.
If I could give starlet a rating of stars I’d give it 100 - it’s that good!
So do yourself a favour and read it. You WON’T be disappointed!

You know when you just start a book and it just grabs you and you just literally can not put it down? Starlet is that book but even more. This book was EVERYTHING I look for in a dark romance, and even more.

Starlet is a retelling of the story Anastasia, and I have to say that the author made this story her own. This story broke me. It takes so much to actually make me cry from a book, however, Ms. Kenborn evoked that emotion from me not once, but twice. The story of Dominic and Angel is breathtaking. It is the story of 2 severely broken people trying to find their way in the dirty world of Hollywood, but they quickly find out that some secrets are best kept buried.

The way that Ms. Kenborn was able to build this world and tell their stories is amazing. She breaks them completely, and JUST when you think that you have it all figured out, BAM, she throws a monkey wrench in the story and leaves you screaming and asking what in the ever loving world just happened. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I was just sitting there reading with my mouth hanging open because I couldn't believe what happened, happened.

This story is BEAUTIFULLY written. The plot, the character development, holy cow the character development was OUTSTANDING. Dominic and Angel had explosive chemistry, and man it was HOT. This story is about vengeance, justice, love, hate, brokenness, hell, I mean insert any adjective in here and that is what it was about.

All I can say is READ THIS BOOK! Fantastic!!!

The Sinister Fairy Tale’s Collection truly saved the best for last with this absolutely amazing story! The twists, turns and the unknown will keep you mesmerized all the way to the last page! This book is certainly a 5+ Stars, so hats off to Cora Kenborn for creating this awesome story!!

I suggest reading without seeing spoilers or detailed reviews. Go in completely not knowing the characters or storyline! This way you can fully enjoy the twists and turns!

If triggers are an issue or you do not enjoy dark themes, I would advise passing this one up, but if not I highly recommend not passing this one by! You definitely will not be disappointed!!

You know when a book is that good you can’t and don’t want to put it down or to end. This is the exact thing that happened to me whilst reading Starlet.

I cannot express enough words to show how in love with this book that I am.

I’ve read one other book by this author and absolutely loved it, coupled with this book, this author has just secured herself another fan and most definitely in the running as one of my favourite authors. That’s how confident and in love with her words I am.

This book has everything. Tension, chemistry, intrigue, angst, heat, triggers, depravity and passion all rolled into one. The characters were well thought out, the plot was on point and the story held that much needed pull to keep me second guessing.

I genuinely can’t wait to read another of this authors books. Highly recommend!

As I started to read Starlet it was reminiscent to me of Blurred Red Lines - sassy bartender girl and strong ruthless dude in a bar but that’s where the similarities ended. The connection between Angelina and Dominic was instant - fizzing away like a live wire. She was a strong girl, oozing, sarcasm, wit and sass - He a dark brooding, arrogant dude.

Starlet is a dark, twisted and intricate story that was submerged in webs of deceit, with twists and turns aplenty. Some parts of the storyline had me guessing to the end - a great suspenseful read. Both primary characters had an abundance of skeletons in their cupboard, making this an interesting and captivating read.

Omg. WTF did I just read? 😱

Holy book hangover! I don’t know if I’ll ever be over this one.

It is so rare for a book to leave me stunned.. and bravo to Cora for leaving me absolutely speechless.

The best way to describe the way I feel about this book is similar to when you wait in line to ride Splash Mountain on a hot day. You wait and wait and excitement builds and you get on the ride, slowly inch up to the top of the steep cliff and all of a sudden it’s a thrilling, breathless free fall to the end. And you’d do it all over again!

Like other reviews have noted, it is a slow build and I found myself unsure what to think or where it was going.. but I was intrigued so I kept reading. And it was SOOO worth it!

This rendition of Anastasia in the Sinister Fairytales Collection completely rendered me speechless.

Dominic is a gruff, doesn't let no one or nothing stand in his way, complete alpha. He's on a mission to save his independent tabloid magazine from bankruptcy.
Angel is a complex, courageous and stronger than she thinks girl. She's had a rough go at life but still pushes forward.

You'll be swept away by their story the minute you start reading. Their bickering and one-upping each other back and forth made for some laugh out loud moments. The combustible heat between them had me drooling and fanning myself. The words uttered from his delectable mouth melted my kindle.

You'll be right alongside these two, experiencing all their triumphs and their despairs. They'll drag you down into their own little piece of hell.

It's an emotional journey, but in the end, you'll find some semblance of peace and just maybe not quite the happily ever after you were expecting, but a happily ever after nonetheless.

This is a most definite must read for those who like stories that grip you, tear you apart, and then piece you back together again; better than you were before you opened the pages.

OMG THIS BOOK!!! Let me first start off by saying this is THE BEST book I've read in a long damn time, and I read a lot of books. Cora has truly outdone herself with this one. But I knew she had it in her. All of her work is phenomenal. But this book? This book gutted me! This book ripped me apart! You know those books where you ask yourself, did she really just do that? Did this author really just go there? The answer is yes. She really went there. She really did just do that. Cora's going to take you to the edge. But she's going to bring you back again. This book is everything and more. From the characters to the storyline to the emotions she brings out, all of it is nothing short of incredible. To say that I loved it is one hell of an understatement. Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK! You'll be so glad you did. Now if you'll excuse me, I have the book hangover to end all book hangovers.
