I should have died in the car crash. When I woke up from the coma, my mother told me my twin brother was dead... I wanted to die too.
I knew nothing would ever be the same. I just didn’t know how right I was.
The crash left me with irreparable brain damage. I’d never be normal again. I was labeled a defect by everyone at home. A flaw. God took the wrong twin. I was stuck in a nightmare.
But when I met her, everything changed. My sunflower. She shone a light on the twisted lie I’d been living. I was forever grateful for her friendship but I couldn’t get too close. I was broken. I broke everything I touched... And I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if she crumbled because of me.
Danielle James is a wife and mother of two, who has written and published over twenty romance novels. Danielle’s work spans from sweet and romantic to dark and taboo. She prides herself on writing bold romance for bold readers. Her books are sexually charged with alpha female characters that leap off the pages. Each book sucks you into an entirely different world with steamy scenes, drama, and amazing plot twists along the way. Her goal is to hook you and keep you addicted so you'll come back for more.
Can I fangirl for a minute?! I discovered Mz. James’ writing a few months ago and haven’t looked back since. Her writing is fresh, original, and I am in love with the way she tells a story. Miss James’ characters always seem to have to fight for their love and once they find their way to each other its them against the world. Her characters are mature and ready for love. None of that break up to make up BS and I love it! Her books gave me just what I needed at a time when I was completely bored with my book choices.
Now…This. Book. Ezra. Ezra. Ezra. Young man. Young man. Woo child!!!!!!!!!! I can not say enough about this little boy who was all man. He was more man than I could have ever imagined. As I sit here and reminisce about scene after scene, I want to read it all over again. The things he said. The things he did. Gah!!!! Ezra!I can’tsee any other book boys but him right now! Ezra reformed me and made me into a one book boy woman. As a matter of fact Fcku a book boyfriend! I settled down with Ezra. I have no understanding of the yogi ish he pulled but I’m done. I am his.
Solo and Ezra set my kindle on fire with their energy and love making. Solo was the Ying to Ezra’s Yang. They were perfect for one another. I adored how they stood and fought together against the toxicity in their lives. Solo played no games!!!!!!!
This was a beautifully written highly emotional read. There was tremendous heartbreak on these pages, but Ezra and Solo’s love eclipsed that ish. That’s how love is supposed to be. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just had an AHA moment! Danielle James’ stories are REAL LOVE stories. No matter what’s thrown at her characters, they stand fast in their love for one another. And that my fellow readers, is the most romantic thing EVA.
I wasn't completely sure about this story until I could not leave this book until completion. Parts of the story were hard to read , and others emotionally charged. The couple's age difference was not too much of a problem. The way Solana and Ezra bonded was too much at times. They helped the other heal after very traumatic experiences. I was so happy sweet little Malachi found a loving place to call home.
Setting: Contemporar/modern day, Inglewood and Radcliff California.
Trope: Older woman/younger man. Ten year age gap.
Main characters: 1. Solana Monroe, heroine, 28 year-old yoga/tea shop owner, vegan eating divorcee who hopes to gain custody of her ex-husband's son. 2. Ezra Feddrich, hero, an 18-year-old high school student who is traumatized by the loose of his twin brother and the love interest of the heroine.
This story did many things well... emotional trapan at the lost of a sibling, a manipulative, deceitful and controlling parent, physical and mental abuse of a parent and spouse; however, it failed as a romantic story between these protagonists. The author did a good job in portraying the emotional anguish of Ezra at the death of his twin brother and it made since of Solana's concern and desire to gain custody of her young step son. Ezra' s mother and Solana's ex-husband were villains and the author portrays them well as antagonist. This story failed to establish Solana and Ezra as a romantic couple with chemistry indicative of a couple in love as opposed to a couple in lust. Ezra's sexual prowless is beyond his years and Solana's desire to partake of his sexual expertise is wonton despite her referring to him as boy or child. Didn't buy the author's instance that Ezra and Solana loved each other. Their"HEA" is unrealistic and unbelievable .
First time reading a book from this author, but I'm hooked. This was a powerful story of two broken and damaged souls, who had an intense and spiritual connection; that blossomed into love. Wasn't sure how I felt about the age difference at first, but they needed each other. It was meant to be. They helped each other overcome challenges and the demons they faced. Ezra's mother needs some serious help! Just wanted to punch her in the throat! Just evil! So glad Malachi was saved from his monster of a father. He deserves a good life. Wonderful story!
I’ve have read hundreds of books and this book by far was one of the best I’ve read. I went through so many emotions while reading it. I love Ezra and Solana, period. Their journey was flawed but beautiful.
Danielle James

♥️🌼DEFECT🌼♥️ Ezra is 18...A high school senior.....Very mature for his age... Just lost his twin brother in a car accident...Ezra suffers from brain trauma as a result of the same accident...Ezra’s mother is mentally ill...She lies and manipulates so he will be dependent on her...She has him believing he has permanent brain damage...♥️🌼 Solana is 28...owns her own business and has a crazy, abusive ex-boyfriend...Solana is trying to get custody of his little boy.....When the hot, young guy moves across the street, Solana is immediately attracted to him, but there is a 10 year age gap....It’s not long before age becomes a nonissue for both of them...their chemistry and energy is off the charts...♥️🌼 DEFECT was not a book you read everyday...I liked that it had a different subject than what we are accustomed...This was my first Danielle James read...and it was a good book!!♥️🌼
Characters = 5/5 Plot = 5/5 Romance = 5/5 Mystery = 3/5 Action = 5/5 Darkness = 2/5 Humor = 1/5 Stars = 5 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Would I recommend this book = Yes Would I read future books by this author = Yes
Loved this book! It was an emotional rollercoaster all the way through. I cried, I swooned, I got angry, and then I was happy.
The plot was great, the characters were likeable, and the romance was sizzling. Usually I don't read romances where the heroine is significantly older (10 years older) but this one was worth it. Ezra, Solana, and little Malachi deserved that happily ever after. Wow! I absolutely recommend.
Solana and Ezra felt electricity when they first touched. The author did a great job with the descriptions of the characters. Solana's beautiful Brown skin, long hair, and bright aura jumped off the pages. As well as Ezra's caramel skin, intense eyes, and overwhelmingly tall build. They were both immediately attracted to each other, but both were hesitant to pursue one another. She was worried about his age and what he might miss out on in life, while he was concerned he would dim her light. Their connection was so potent that they were unable to avoid it. There were some bumpy roads they travelled, but ultimately they found home and family in each other.
Whoooo, chile!!!! This book was a LOT. A lot of grief, a lot of pain, but also a lot of love and a lot of healing. I admit I was more than a little leery about Ezra and Solana being together given their SIGNIFICANT differences, but their potent chemistry couldn't be denied. This Book took me through so many emotions, but it was worth it! Excellent story! Brava, Ms. James!
Omg Danielle James wrote an amazing book. The raw emotions and story plot stole my heart. Solana and Ezra 2 characters who find each other in a time were they both needed each other the connection between them is explosive hot and I couldn't get enough of them together. I love that this book is also on Kindle Unlimited which I was able to read this book through.
Absolutely loved Solana and Ezra. Two beautiful wounded souls trying to find their way back to wholeness and thankfully they found that together along with love and family. Truly beautiful story about the family we make and the road to healing!
Wow, this story was awesome. Solo and Ezra had a connection that most people dream about. His mother was a piece of work, truly a sad situation. This was a great HEA. A must read.
Interesting plot, characters keep my interest. If Ezra were a wee bit older, the plot would have been a lot more believable - imo. Otherwise a good read overall.
wooow , it's the first book i read from this author and was FIRE i loved it so freaking much!!!!!! and his mom? i wanted to go in the book and punch her in the face :(:/ i loved this book and i'm looking forward to read other books buy Danielle <3
This book kept me captivated from begin to end. What Ezra had to go through was horrible. His parent deserved worse than what they got. Solo was a breath of fresh air. I loved the ending.
Me James is quickly becoming one of my new favorite author. Her books are passionate with characters that are relatable. Ezra and Solo were simply meant to be. Their connection was palpable. Please keep up the good work DJ
Another great book from Danielle James. Defect is mildly taboo with there being a 10 year age gap between the main characters. The yoga, Reiki, and energy references throughout the book were a source of extra intrigue for me.
I have one thing to say... Read. This. Book. This book got me crying, falling in love with these characters, and pissed off with some other characters. Good thing karma is a bitch. 😈 One of my faves from Danielle!!!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I recommend reading this book. I loved the characters, well written, entertaining and definitely a page turner. Danielle James is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her work!! I loved the story.
