She looked him directly in the eyes. “I don’t have any plans to kill you tonight, Wolf Boy, so catch some z’s too.”
Despite the flare of irritation he felt at the ridiculous nickname, Conall also felt more than a flicker of amusement. “But you plan to kill me eventually?”
She was silent a moment and then she answered, and his instincts told him she was being honest. “I don’t know. What I do know is that there’s someone else after me and you’ve saved my ass twice. I can’t get rid of you so I may as well make use of you.”
Her words caused a stirring somewhere they shouldn’t. Poor word choice on her part. “Make use of me?” his voice was gruff.
She flicked him a casual look as she kicked off her shoes and got into the bed, fully clothed. “Bodyguard.” She reached up and switched off the lamp at her bedside.
Surprised, Conall snorted. “And here I thought you didnae need a bodyguard.”
“Me too. Until a vamp punched a hole in my chest.” Although she tried to hide behind levity, he heard the slight tremble of uncertainty in her words.
“Is that the closest you’ve come to death, lass?”
“No,” she whispered, the duvet rustling as she turned her back to him. “Death and I are old friends.”

Marching away from the reception and prying eyes, Conall bounded up the stairs to the next floor, feeling Thea’s presence grow stronger. Anticipation flooded him, making his heart pound, and his hands flex. Glancing down through the drop between the railings, Conall realized he could take this back staircase to the exit without having to go through reception.
Perfect.
Thankfully, the hallway on the next floor was empty as Conall tried to move his hulking figure as quietly down it as possible. He stopped outside the door of the room at the farthest end of the hallway and rested his palm against it.
Thea was behind the door.
Brat.
Grabbing the door handle he gave it a jarring tug, hearing the lock break with satisfaction. Conall strode inside, coming to an abrupt halt at the sight of Thea in fighting stance, facing him.
She had her fists held up to her face like a practiced boxer, her knees bent.
Exasperated at the thought of delaying their journey with a fight, Conall swung the door shut behind him and crossed his arms over his chest.
Her olive skin was a little pale, her features strained from the obvious painful toll the mysterious drug had taken on her body. Dark circles were still visible beneath her wide tip-tilted eyes. She was still weak.
Good.
“I have no wish to fight you.”
Thea grunted. “You’re trying to kidnap me, and you don’t expect me to fight you?”
“Are you capable of fighting in this state?”
She narrowed her eyes. “I could kick your ass any day of the week, Wolf Boy.”
A growl erupted from him before he could stop it. “Call me that again and see where it gets you.”
“I’m not afraid of you.”
Conall tested the air and realized he couldn’t smell any hint of fear from her. Huh. Maybe that should give him pause.
It didn’t.
“Listen and listen carefully.” He took a step toward her and her lush lips pressed tightly together. “I’m no ordinary werewolf. You can run from me, Thea, but I’ll always be able to find you. So let’s give into the inevitable and not make a big deal out of this.”
Thea let out an incredulous laugh and Conall tensed at the musical sound. “You’re delusional, Wolf Boy, if you think I’m going anywhere without a fight.”
If she called him that one more time, Conall was afraid he’d change right in front of her. He tried not to curl his hands into fists, giving away his mounting anger. “I’m not kidding. How do you think I found you when others have failed? How do you think I found you here? I hear you have talents, abilities… well you’re not the only one. I have your scent, Thea Quinn. You’ll never be able to run from me again.”
She studied him a moment, perhaps trying to deduce if he was lying or not. She wrinkled her nose. “Well, that’s not creepy.”
Ignoring her sarcasm, he gestured to the door. “Let’s go.”
Conall waited, studying her impatiently as she considered him in return. As her soulful eyes wandered over his body, an electric awareness shivered through him, reminding him of the call of the full moon.
Ashforth was right. She was a dangerous creature in more ways than one.
She relaxed her fighting stance, exhaling wearily. “Fine.”
Relieved but still alert Conall nodded. He’d barely turned a millimetre toward the door when he felt the blast of a forceful wind against his back. A dark blur shot past him but his reflexes were fast and he reached out for what he hoped was the scruff of her neck.
Making purchase he shoved her against the door and slammed his body into hers.
She gasped, her cheek pressed hard to the door along with the front of her body. With a grunt she pushed against him but Conall leaned his entire weight into her. “How?” she panted, looking up at him in shock.
Conall tightened his grip on her neck and bent his head to her ear. “You may be fast, lass, but I’m faster.”
Her upper lip curled. “I’m not at full strength.”
“Aye, well, I suppose we’ll see how we get on when you are.” He took hold of her wrists and brought them down behind her back.
Thea squirmed, and he tightened his hold, knowing it must be painful, but she never showed it. “Let’s go.”
“You really think I’ll believe you’re the world’s best bloodhound without testing that theory?” he heard the warning in her voice.
In the name of expedience, he transferred his hold on her to one hand and quickly pulled the syringe out of his back pocket. Just like that the coppery, blood-like tang of her terror filled his nostrils and Conall forced down a prickle of guilt. He couldn’t imagine she felt guilty about all the people she’d murdered. He didn’t want to use the drug now he knew it messed with his ability to track her, but she didn’t know that. “Easy way… or hard way?”
“I… I can pay you more than Ashforth.”
“By stealing from people. No thanks.” Conall kept the syringe in one hand, while he yanked open the door and quickly grabbed her arm. His huge hand wrapped easily around her small bicep. For a fairly tall woman with generous assets, she felt fragile and small beneath his touch. Most human females did.
But she wasn’t human, he reminded himself, as he yanked her out into the hallway.
“I would think someone who is mercenary enough to hunt a woman he knows nothing about for money wouldn’t care where the money comes from.”
Conall stopped and hauled her close, bending to enunciate the words in her face so she could make no mistake about his determination to finish this job. “Ashforth isn’t paying me. Someone important to me is dying and I hear you’re the cure. I bring you to Ashforth to answer for murdering his wife and he’ll give me some of your blood.”
If she felt anything about this information, she did a wonderful job of not showing it. Instead, she tilted her chin in defiance. “I’ll give you some of my blood, if you’ll just let me go.”
“No can do.” He shook his head and continued to pull her down the hall with him. “I struck a bargain with this man and my word is my honor.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me, right?” she sneered, trying to yank free of his hold and failing.
Conall gritted his teeth and held on tighter. If she kept fighting him, he’d inadvertently hurt her. Stupid lass. “Keep moving.”
She stopped as they entered the stairwell. “Seriously. My life is more important than your goddamn honor.”
“There’s a trail of bodies from the east coast of the US through mainland Europe that makes the latter questionable.”
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Exasperated, wishing he could drug her without causing her pain or him to lose his connection to her, Conall let the growl show in his voice. “Let’s cease talking entirely.”
To his surprise and relief, she did.

I had a good time with this one.
I loved the supernatural elements and how they were portrayed.
I absolutely loved that Thea was amazingly powerful which leads me to the reason why I rated this 3 stars. I wanted her to want the power, I wanted her to explore it more, to want to understand it and own it as a part of her and what makes her who she is. Because the fact is that she grew up being different and powerful and it wasn't something which she gained later on.... so this leads me to the disappointment of reading how much she resented being strong and how much she resented being a freaking goddess (in my opinion) . Annnnnddddd to top it all off - she did give up her powers to be faithfully in love and mortal and less powerful than the male lead BECAUSE duh, we can't have her be bigger and badder.
I'm tired of this freaking plot line. I want women to know they are amazing, I want them to welcome their power and use it. I want them greedy and completely at peace with being a badass bitch!
If you don't care about the stuff I mentioned above then this book will be a win, because it wasn't bad by any means.

2 - 2.5 Stars
This just didn’t blow it away and I have no idea why. It has SO many PNR ingredients that I adore and love and I truly cannot figure out what was missing for me. It actually reminded me a lot of Kresley Cole’s A Hunger Like No Other, which I really enjoyed...maybe it felt like a pale comparison? Maybe the characters just didn’t click with me for whatever reason? Who knows. All I know is, I should have loved this more and I honestly can’t figure out why I didn’t. Oh well. Onward.

Standalone Series
*Cue in a flourish of MOON HOWLING wolf noises*
Fans of paranormal romance out there, let’s R-E-J-O-I-C-E in the fact that this book exists to quench our thirst for the supernaturals, those otherwordly beings who make our pathetic mundane lives seem less boring bcs they’ve got more interesting stories to tell that our minds would gladly indulge in!! This book was so good. I loved it.

↠ Intriguing, action packed, sometimes gruesome storyline
The story was very gripping. There was never a dull moment where I wished I wanted to stop reading. The beginning of the book held such a strong premise for the rest of the story bcs it already had an interesting start. and Honestly it stayed true until the end bcs our author did not disappoint.
I revelled in every single part of this book from the moment we met our protagonists, the hunt our hero was sent on to chase our heroine for the prize of saving his sister and the pack, the dilemma of choosing between love and duty, to the part where they teamed up to defeat the bad guy and ultimately the happily ever after.
↠ Toes curling, thighs clenching, moon howling alpha couple romance
The romance in this book was something to be devoured. It has that enemies to lovers dynamic. It was all consuming seeing how both of our characters’ emotions gradually shift from hostile to having mutual attraction and understanding until eventually feeling immense and intense love for one another.
I loved that despite having everything happened between them in the span of a little over a month, the pacing of this book was steady and it didn’t make the relationship feel too insta love-y. The heat from their passionate love making was practically blazing!! It was wild, and it happened for the first time only a little after passing halfway through the book.
TO SUM UP :
Reading this book had been like coming home to a world of supernaturals. I love paranormal romance, and this book delivered just how much I overjoyed reading about werewolves, mating bonds, and other wolf-y pack business. It really made for a highly addictive read. It felt like I was in my element. I believe this is something we can all admit to when reading from one of our favorite genres.
While this book only focuses on two characters, it has a well constructed and engaging plotline with lots of badass action sequences and the electric whirlwind of a romance. Not to mention, the story is set in Scotland and its neighboring countries that bound to captivate you with their natural beauty. For a first timer paranormal writer, this author has undeniably shown a staggering feat with this impressive werewolves tale.

WAR OF HEARTS: Is a full length standalone paranormal romance novel by Samantha Young. (This is her first time writing a paranormal novel). Spoken in 'Dual POV's' This is Thea Quinn and Conall MacLennan's story. Whilst this was a standalone, it made me believe that there may be more books in the future.
4 WOLF BOY STARS
I’ve not read many paranormal novels, I can count them on one hand so I was nervous about reading this one, but took that leap of faith knowing who the author was!! And I am soooo glad I did!! This was so unexpectedly easy to get into, from the storyline to the characters themselves made for an exhilarating read! Before I knew it I’d inhaled it! If this book is anything to go by I definitely need to dip my toes into this genre more!
Twenty five year old Thea is on the run, moving from city to city never staying anywhere for too long, trying to outrun a pure evil man named Ashforth who insists Thea Quinn is a supernatural creature of unknown origin and he's out to cause her harm. Thea really has no idea what she really is, but definitely knows that she is not 100% human.
If being hunted by one man wasn't enough now she has another one on her tail, and that is Conall MacLennan he's the alpha king belonging to one of the last werewolf packs in Scotland. If he can apprehend Thea, Ashworth has promised that her blood will cure his sister. Conall is good at his job, he can track like no other by scent alone. Ashworth has informed Conall that Thea is a dangerous killer and is not to be trusted.
Thea has no chance in hell when it comes to evading him.
The banter and interaction between these two characters was nothing other than perfection, their sexual chemistry simmered away in the background which I loved.

God, she loved him.
Oh my gosh! War of Hearts was everything I didn't know I was looking for. I am by no means a paranormal romance connoisseur but I can tell you that this book had everything I wanted in one.
The pacing of the story kept me on my toes - from the cat and mouse chase to the action packed scenes, I was completely enthralled. I was never once bored or wanting to skim pages. I read everything word for word, relishing in the gripping world building. Even though the paranormal creatures were nothing new, I felt like S. Young really weaved a great tale and set up a great foundation for, what I believe, could be a great series. I also really liked her style of writing - the beautifully written descriptions of Europe made me want to travel so badly!
I loved both MC's SO MUCH. They're both badasses without being OTT and cringey. You know what I mean? They're strong but not eye-rollingly so. Thea (25) is definitely one of my favorite heroines to date. She had such a tragic backstory but her will to live and desire to push on made me respect her so much. Conall (31), the hero, was definitely put in between a rock and a hard place so I didn't envy his position at all. It took me a while to warm up to him but I ended up falling in love with his honorable and protective heart. While they both started off as enemies, I was soooooo eager for them to give in to the attraction between them. I can't remember the last time I squealed so much. The push and pull definitely made the wait so much sweeter.
I was also glad that there were a lot of strong secondary characters. Even the antagonists were very interesting. Everyone had different motivations and reasons for the side they fought for.
I'll admit the story was very (and I mean very) predictable from start to finish and the ending was borderline cheesy but you know what? I'm ok with that! I went in for a good time and that's exactly what I got.
War of Hearts, despite it's predictability, definitely ranks up there amongst other favorites. It's a strong start to what could potentially be one of my favorite series. I can see myself rereading this book in years to come. I highly recommend this book! To those unfamiliar with the paranormal-romance genre, I think this book is a great place to start.

I have always been a huge fan of Samantha Young and have read a bunch of her traditional adult contemporary romances, but, WOW, she has proven she can also write a spellbinding and all-consuming paranormal romance as well. It’s been a while since I’ve read this genre and I’m realizing it’s time to dive back in. ”WAR OF HEARTS” is an epic story filled with intrigue and incredible main characters whose romance will steal readers’ hearts and souls!
Conall is the Alpha of Clan MacLennan, the most powerful wolfpack in all of Scotland, if not the world. He is a man of honor who loves his family fiercely and will do whatever he can to protect them and his pack. Conall’s younger sister is slowly dying from an incurable illness. It is for this reason alone that he agrees to track a woman on the run for a wealthy American businessman. Normally humans avoid trespassing on his compound and Ashforth’s arrogance rubs Conall the wrong way, but when Ashforth tells him that the woman’s blood can cure his sister Callie, he proves that he has a bargaining chip that Conall can’t resist. Five stars!!! Five stars!!!!!!! FIVE. FREAKING. STARS!!!!!! This was the best PNR I’ve read in FOREVER! The drama, the feels, the characters, the romance, it was all so vivid, so addicting, so perfect! I’m in love with every word. I can feel one hell of a book hangover coming on! Just wow!

Holy...WOW. I am HOOKED. Line and sinker on all of the words. On this amazing world. On what I'm desperately now hoping will be a series. Because this book seriously blew me away.
I'm a HUGE PNR fan, and so it goes without saying I'm also ridiculously picky when it comes to the genre. But considering how much I adore Samantha Young's contemporaries, I knew without even reading the blurb to this book that I had to have it. And when I finally read the blurb? I was frothing at the mouth to get my hands on it.
If there's one thing that is especially hard for PNR books to do, is the world building. All too often I'll read a PNR story that ends up being a data dump of epic proportions or there's just not enough world building to truly grasp or understand. This was none of those things. This felt like a movie reel unraveling behind my eyes as I was turning the pages. A magic, fantastical world that I couldn't get enough of.
Thea Quinn is on the run but she's no weakling. As a matter of fact, she's frightfully strong. But the most frightening thing is she has no idea what she is or where her strength comes from. She's been on the run for years from something that threatens everything for her.
Conall MacLennan, is the Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan, and one of the most fearsome and strong werewolves there is. When a man comes to him and offers him a deal to save his terminally ill sister in exchange for him hunting down a dangerous fugitive, it doesn't take him long to make up his mind. Being one of the best trackers, it doesn't take him long to track down Thea. Unfortunately it also doesn't take him long to figure out that neither Thea or everything else surrounding their situation is what it seems.
The story was an action packed page turner. There's nothing I love more than a strong heroine, and boy did Thea check that box for me. The woman is fierce. At times, her power overshadows even that of Conall. But what I loved the most is that it never diminished Conall's intensity. If anything, watching the way he handles it just added to his appeal.
The romance is a slow burn, and while it's a little tamer that what I'm used to from this author, it was no less satisfying. I loved these two together, but I especially loved the unraveling of their unique world and learning more about many of the mysterious secondary characters. There's enough of a hook at the end to make me think that there will be more to come in this world and I can't wait! If you're looking for an addicting and unique PNR, look no further. This will check all of your boxes!

I REALLY loved Samantha Young’s foray into paranormal romance! In WAR OF HEARTS, Thea has lived on the run for years, hunted by paranormals and humans alike. She doesn’t know precisely what she is, just that with her healing blood, everyone wants to capture her and lock her up as a prize experiment in a lab. No thanks. Conal is in a bind. King of the werewolves, and his sister is dying. The only cure? You guessed it. Thea’s blood.
Conal arranges with her former “guardian” to track her and in exchange, his sister stays back at the guardian’s castle as collateral until he delivers Thea. You can guess since this is a romance what happens next. This was wonderfully done, with great chemistry between the characters, some good world-building and a thrilling sense of hunt and chase throughout the novel. I thoroughly enjoyed and hope to see more of these from Samantha Young!

It has been years since I've found myself so thoroughly immersed in a paranormal romance story. Samantha Young has created an exotic world with richly developed folklore. The pace is solid, the characters are appealing, the adventure is page-turning. I felt like I was reading a Jason Bourne Supernatural edition story. I'm excited to pick up the second in the series and continue on.

As always, Samantha Young doesn’t disappoint. I’ve been reading her books for so many years that I’ve lost count by now. From young adult paranormal to new adult contemporary to adult contemporary and now, adult paranormal...I’ve loved every book that I’ve ever read from her and this one is no different. I do have to say, though, that I think this is one of the best books that she’s written in a while.
I love love LOVE Conall (werewolf) and Thea (hehe, what is she?). They were so sexy, so funny, so compelling and so sweet together in this world (ok fine, mostly Scotland) filled with werewolves, vampires and all manner of paranormal creatures. Conall and Thea were a pair of broken souls who found a way to heal and find family in each other. It was just so beautiful and I can’t wait to continue on with this series!

Do you know that feeling when everything fizzles out somehow?
This is what I felt most of the time
And I can tell you the exact moment when all my excitement faded away. Tension ran high until the "enemies" part turned to "lovers". The transition was logical but kinda 'sudden' and therefore fell totally flat for me. People will probably disagree but this is just how I felt.
And then it began... I found myself doing other stuff and felt absolutely no desire to pick up the book again (for ex., I had 3% left. 3%! And even then I was dragging my ass.). Things were happening on page but my feelings remained numb and my face unimpressed. Sad but true.
So yeah, I didn't love the book as much as I would have liked but I still think you should give this book a try. I'm just in a strange mood and you'll probably end up loving it.
I mean, 3 stars are not bad and if I could, I'd give 5 stars for the first part alone, it was that good. The premise, gosh, I freaking loved it! The hero got fed with false information about the heroine and now he's bound to bring her in or else his sister will die. Uhm hi dilemma! Let me welcome you with open arms lol.
There was lots of action, so exactly how I like it when reading paranormal. A kickass heroine is also a must for me and let me tell you, she.was.BADASS! Plus a sexy alpha-werewolf as the hero? What's not to love, right?
This book is a standalone but the ending does hint at a sequel with new protagonists, and even though War of Hearts wasn't a huge hit for me I will definitely anticipate S. Young's next releases.
Trigger warning though: This book was a lot more gruesome than I anticipated. I didn't mind but squeamish people should probably stay away from it.
PS: I found the wordplay with "wolf" absolutely charming btw. I couldn't help but grin every time I came across one of them (there weren't that many but still). Big compliment to the author for that lol. It just made the big, grumpy werewolf so much more adorable.

But don't worry, I didn't hate it by any means.
Plot: Unfortunately the ENTIRE plot was laid out for the reader VERY early on in chapter 2.
HOWEVER, any romance reader also knows that it's about the journey, not the destination. And Conall and Thea's journey, while predictable, wasn't without it's moments of brilliance.
Let's try this again.
Plot: Conall is a werewolf with an extraordinary ability to track prey who agrees to find a murderer in exchange for the cure for his sister's illness. The murderer turns out to be Thea, a woman who's been on the run for the last six years and is more than capable of taking care of herself.
The initial stages of Thea and Conall's relationship were my favorites.
But SO many people loved this one. Don't take my word for it, lol. Especially if you love your wolves. <3

Thea looked up at him and her lush lips parted into a slow smile. "Not today." [...] "But there's always tomorrow."
Calling what he felt for Thea a mistake seemed like a betrayal.I truly wish I could have loved it more. But the execution of the story was always just slightly off for me. The flashes of borderline cheesy dialogue, the mostly irrelevant 'history', and the over-explained twists all grated on my nerves until I ended up having to round down.
But SO many people loved this one. Don't take my word for it, lol. Especially if you love your wolves. <3

4 Stars! Haven’t read a good paranormal/supernatural book in a while and so glad that I’d heard about this one! Author Tillie Cole gushed about this book on Instagram and I knew I had to read it!
She’s right to gush - it’s fast paced, action packed with loads of emotion and strong characters!!
Would love to read more books set in this world. I could see that happening in companion novels, which I hope will happen *fingers crossed*

On Dublin Street is one of my favourite OG contemporary romance book series. So when I heard that Samantha Young was writing a paranormal romance, I wanted the book…no-no… I needed the book ASAP!
War of Hearts reignited my love for paranormal fantasy. What a thrilling and exhilarating read this book was!
Everything about this book was intoxicating addictive! Thea Quinn is such a badass heroine! I love female leads that exude power and beauty. Conall MacLennan is DIVINE!! Male perfection at it’s finest. He’s a little bit possessive yet fair-minded. He is protective of Theo but he doesn’t bulldoze over her.
Samantha Young’s War of Hearts is action packed, filled with angst, steamy senses and suspenseful to the T. I couldn’t put this book down and I guarantee that you won’t be able to stop reading it until the early hours of the morning.

I've been a reader of Samantha Young's for many years, but I'd never read any of her paranormal books. When I saw the announcement for War of Hearts, I was so eager to check it out. I haven't been able to find a ton of new books in the genre to catch my eye, so this was a more than welcome treat! You get a little bit of everything with this one: action, suspense, forbidden love, and mystery regarding Thea's identity. It's all firmly packed together in one heart-pounding package. I read this book in a 24 hour period, completely drawn in from page one. Which is quite remarkable considering the detailed paranormal world that was introduced here. Typically you have some dry spells in the plot where you're just taking in information, but for me it felt so natural and seamless. There wasn't a moment of boredom or difficulty in holding my attention.
Thea Quinn is on the run from a monster. After miraculously surviving the plane crash that her parents perished in, she was taken in by a man who became her worst nightmare. Horrifically abused, and used for her rare supernatural talents, she barely escaped the prison she escaped from. She'd rather die fighting than give up her freedom, so she travels from city to city, always looking behind her shoulder. Thea is a proud woman, very strong mentally and physically, and she has a soft heart despite the tragedy and mistreatment she's been through. This heroine is one of the most badass I've read in quite a while. Her power is almost limitless, yet untapped. Without full knowledge of what type of supernatural being she is, she lacks the awareness of her capabilities. They're used only when necessary-for others' protection as well as her own.
Conall is the alpha of the last wolf pack in Scotland, Clan MacLennan. Though they can't compare in size to many other packs, their strength is undeniable. His parents were both alphas and head of the pack before they died, and he's continuing their legacy. His home and family at Loch Torridon are everything to him. He's protective, fierce, confident, trustworthy and honorable. Someone you could trust with your life if the situation arose. But what if he were the one working with your enemy to deliver you to the devil? He's the last person you want tracking you because once he has your scent there's no escaping him. Out of desperation to help his fatally ill sister, he agrees to deliver Thea in exchange for a miracle cure. What should have been a fairly simple job for him gets complicated fast.
Conall is expecting a cold blooded killer, but after his first run-in he immediately starts to question everything he's been told about her. Nothing is quite adding up and his intuition is pricking him at the most inconvenient time. He grew attracted pretty quickly but fights it hard, knowing that his sister's life must come first. Of course, she wasn't about to roll over and accept defeat easily so it became a battle of wills between the two of them. There were a lot of adrenaline fueled fight scenes, narrow escapes, and betrayal as they made their way back to Scotland. Thea has become a target from another unknown source that puts everyone's lives in danger even further.
I loved the revelations about Thea and the history regarding her identity. I was absolutely riveted after the truth came out and couldn't put it down. Even though the romance had limited time to develop in between the main conflicts, it never felt rushed. Thea and Connall had the kind of tension and chemistry that make you just a little bit giddy as you wait for their resistance to snap. There were a million reasons why they shouldn't be together, but one very big reason why none of them mattered.
There was right and there was wrong; there was loyalty and responsibility. Everything he felt now was complicated and confusing.
This couple was incredible and easily one of my favorites from the author. Even though this is listed as a standalone, the epilogue leads you to believe that there is still more to be told in this world. You're definitely going to want to get in on this addictive book now, as soon as it's out! I cannot recommend this one enough.

I found the beginning rather slow going with a lot of world building but thoroughly enjoyed the second half once the pace picked up. Loved the whole fae and immortality plot line and that both characters are strong and take no prisoners and the bonus, not on TSTL moment either.

The paranormal romance genre has a special place in my heart, and especially books that are about shifters/werewolves. This is one of the genres that I am very critical of, and I want the story to be a perfect blend of action, romance, and paranormal events. I think the author did a pretty good job in creating a story that had all the before mentioned elements. I especially loved the mysterious aspect of the main character Thea Quinn not knowing what she is. While she is running away from an evil and dangerous man, she is now also being hunted by Conall MacLennan, Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan, the last werewolf pack in Scotland, who was hired by this man. Conall is a true alpha who would do anything for his pack, and especially his immediate family.
I loved how action-packed this book was, and I loved the dynamic between the two main characters Thea and Conall. Thea doesn't trust easily and has no reason to do so with Conall, however she also doesn't feel in danger when she is around him. I enjoyed the pace of how their relationship developed. It wasn't rushed, and the author took her time for the characters to trust and get to know each other. Thea has gone through so much in her life, and I just loved how strong she was. She didn't give up and is definitely one of my favorite characters in PNR. I love the world S. Young has created for this book, it was very well-thought-out and original. So I really hope for more books set in this world. I recommend this book to any reader who love paranormal romances. I would also recommend it to readers who haven't read this genre before, because you should always try to read a genre you haven't before, because who knows, you may find a new favorite.

I’ve been reading Samantha Young for 6-7 years, if my memory is not failing me.. I am very familiar with her style, with her stories and I always loved the message she manages to pass on. Family is the most important element she uses and throughout her books she inspires us to do the same and love each and every member of our family. Friendship is also valuable for her and this warm feeling is growing deep inside every reader, because the message is loud and clear, you can’t miss it. 😊
“War of Hearts” was such a pleasant surprise, a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings I didn’t think I will feel while reading a Paranormal Romance story. It was intense and it made me read for hours without budging, because it was that good. As the plot progressed I began to feel a little obsessed with finding out what comes next and it felt like something very worrying, because I usually don’t act like that. Even if I was used to “Earthly” characters from Samantha, I got very attached to this supernatural ones and instantly loved them because they were intense and felt SO REAL. This is what I want you to take from this review: even if the story is a supernatural one, with magical creatures that exist only in movies or myths, the characters felt very real, with real feelings that inspire you to love, to be loyal and brave. As I was already aware, unity is important in every book she writes, because it is part of who she is and of course, she had to insert it in her stories.
Thea is a very powerful character, one of the bravest and kindest I’ve read about. It was a pleasure meeting her and getting to witness her story, because she is really a lesson to learn here. Having lost her parents at a young age, Thea is being taken in by a family which soon will discover that she is different. Yes, she has gifts and this makes her really special. Even if her talents are not used and explored in anyway, her “father” realizes what she can do, in this way a nightmare is upon to start. She will be tortured in every way possible in order for him to understand her origins. I cannot begin to tell you what she went through and I nearly cried when she recollected that awful period. Managing to escape, she will not let anyone find her and tore her walls down. She will kill if necessary in order to defend herself and if running is the only way, so be it. She will do things she doesn’t want to do, but in order to stay safe and away from the person who hurt her, nothing seems difficult.
Her destiny will interwine with Conall’s, a very brave warewolf who will do anything for his family. When Thea becomes his sister only salvation, he must track her and bring her to his home in Scotland, were his pack is. Yes, if you’ve been wondering, he is Scottish, with a delightful accent and a “lass” lover. Conall is the definition of alpha in every sense of the word, from stature to personality and actions. He is brave, loyal, extremely passionate and also stubborn as hell. He has to find Thea because her sister needs her. He will soon discover that he also needs Thea desperately, but for other reasons. 🙂
Their relationship is the epitome of intense, because every scene together is powerful. Even if he is the leader of a great pack, Thea is soon to follow, having also the same passionate personality, but also a vulnerable side which opened Conall’s curiosity. What he believes about her will soon crumble, leaving aside a victim of a cruel man who didn’t do anything else but run. I liked the fact that they are both supernatural creatures, because I don’t recollect reading recently a similar story. In the previous one, one of them was human, mainly the heroine, and the hero was the special characters of the couple. So, points for originality. Beside, I liked the mystery, the permanent question pending in the air: “Who is Thea?” or “What type of creature she is?”
As I was saying above, this couple was real because it inflicted real feelings to the story. They fought an inevitable attraction, they revealed to each other secrets that were carved deep inside and they began to feel trust as the plot progressed. Speaking of the plot, it was exciting, dramatic, full of action and “OMG” moments, leaving you without air. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Callie and James. Samantha also managed to drafts a very good antagonist in Jasper Ashforth, even if I wanted to kill him from second 1, I have to admit that she did a very good job building his story.
I think this is my time to finally finish writing, but I want to say again how special this book was and what an amazing story I’ve read within the last days. Powerful characters that teach you great things about survival, love and loyalty + a great story to follow with your heart pumping fast and brain going with various scenarios all at once. It has been an amazing ride and the only question that remains now is if we will have a new series to look forward to. Anyone? 😀

This was my first paranormal romance of Samantha Young’s and I really did enjoy it! PNR holds a special place in my heart so when I heard SY would be writing a new book in this subgenre, I was jumping for joy. And not only is it PNR, it’s SHIFTER PNR! War of Hearts dives us into a fantastic, new paranormal world that I’m really hoping we get more of. I loved the main characters (there’s even a scene where they’re forced to share a bed in a hotel) and even though the book wasn’t perfect, I definitely say give it a try if you love this author or PNR!
Thea Quinn is on the run from her abuser. She’s indestructible, has insane healing abilities, but doesn’t fit into the vampire/werewolf/witch/etc mold, and has no idea what she is. Conall MacLennan is the alpha of the Scotland werewolf pack, and in order to save his dying sister, he makes a deal to deliver Thea to a man in exchange for her healing blood. He’s told Thea is a lying, manipulative murderer, so why is it when he finds her and the more time he spends around her, the more he doubts that that’s who she is?
Thea and Conall are BADASS. Thea can kick ass like nobodies business – she’s had to learn to defend herself since being on the run for years. I also felt for her too. She’s been through so much awful things that you can’t help but hurt for her. As the alpha of one of the most powerful werewolf packs in the world, obviously Conall can hold his own too. He’s gruff and intense and 6 1/2 feet of gorgeousness. I loved all the action and fight scenes Thea and Conall get into. Samantha Young did a fantastic job at keeping you on the edge of your seat and glued to the pages with all the action!
As much as I loved Thea and Conall’s characters, I had some issues with the romance, particularly with the pacing of it. It’s pretty much non-existent for a good chunk of the first half of the book, except for some underlying chemistry. But that was fine, because I was loving the slow burn. But then the “oops, there’s only one bed in this hotel room” thing happened (which I’m a sucker for), and things moved at a warped speed. Yes, it is a fated mates kind of romance, which normally I love, but in this case I think it was a bit too fast for them to start saying “I love yous” so soon. Also, it was pretty obvious what Thea was pretty early on in the book. But I don’t know if it’s because I read a ton of PNR/fantasy romance?
Still, this is a solid read I would recommend if you love shifter romances. It’s full of action, with great main characters. We get to travel all across Europe along with Thea and Conall. We’re left with a little tease at the end and I do actually want more books from this world. I also have a feeling that many of SY’s contemporary readers will want to give this a try, and I say go for it!

This was my first paranormal romance of Samantha Young’s and I really did enjoy it! PNR holds a special place in my heart so when I heard SY would be writing a new book in this subgenre, I was jumping for joy. And not only is it PNR, it’s SHIFTER PNR! War of Hearts dives us into a fantastic, new paranormal world that I’m really hoping we get more of. I loved the main characters (there’s even a scene where they’re forced to share a bed in a hotel) and even though the book wasn’t perfect, I definitely say give it a try if you love this author or PNR!
Thea Quinn is on the run from her abuser. She’s indestructible, has insane healing abilities, but doesn’t fit into the vampire/werewolf/witch/etc mold, and has no idea what she is. Conall MacLennan is the alpha of the Scotland werewolf pack, and in order to save his dying sister, he makes a deal to deliver Thea to a man in exchange for her healing blood. He’s told Thea is a lying, manipulative murderer, so why is it when he finds her and the more time he spends around her, the more he doubts that that’s who she is?

This was a well-written fantasy story. There was a lot of cat and mouse going on with Connall trying to capture and return Thea to the man who wants her for her powers. The world building and magic were well explained and I really enjoyed the fantasy aspects of the plot.
The story did feel very tropey. It had a lot of elements that felt familiar and predictable. There were also some good genuine twists that I enjoyed. And at around 450 pages it was a bit longer than necessary.
The romance was sexy and fun and the H/h had great conflict between them. Thea is one tough cookie and I loved that she was never a doormat. Connall was the one who was usually being a self-sacrificing idiot and I rolled my eyes more than a few times at his choices and thought process, but most of those were over quickly and didn't drag on.
Overall, I think 3 stars is a good rating. The H/h had a great romance and I believed in their love. If you like fantasy, werewolves and vampires and an h who has powers that she doesn't understand, then you will really like this book.

This book I would describe as a contemporary paranormal novel. Does that make sense? I mean, it all sounds very plausible. I believe your story, Samantha Young. Maybe I have an overly active imagination but this...it could be.
So we have werewolves, vampires, fairies and humans. The tale is old as the time of power and morality. The choices we make. Our hero is an alpha wolf who is recruited to hunt down our heroine. She is something powerful that can heal the hero's sister. Through the chase around Europe, we lean that the hero is not the only one who has an interest in heroine.
This has very enemies to lover thing going on. I like the world-building. It is very believable and interesting, Premise is at the same time familiar and new, Writing is excellent. Our lead couple is everything I look for in PNR book. I would like that this becomes a series.
The only thing I disliked is that at certain points I stopped reading and needed time to get back to it. So as I am late to read this and write my review for this book I don't know is that the reason or just ...life. The anticipation of learning about what really happened...who really are our lead protagonists...and the banter, the great and amazing banter between them...when that stopped I was feeling a certain way.
I would recommend this book!!!
