A dark and steamy take on the Legend of Tarzan and Jane!

When I first saw the pictures of Alexander Skarsgard and his new abs in the early trailers for the latest Tarzan movie and heard that Margot Robbie was playing Jane I was excited to see it. I was very disappointed in the result. Though, I must say they do make the perfect characters for this book. Karzan has Long blonde hair and lots of muscles like Skarsgards’s Tarzan and Janey has red hair similar to Robbi’s strawberry blonde as Jane in the movie.

The biggest mistake that most of these Tarzan movies make is having too many “civilized characters” and taking Tarzan back to England to be “Civilized”. He is the King of the Jungle for a reason and that is where he belongs. That is one of the many things this book does right. It keeps Karzan and Janey in the Jungle. Also it is quite steamy which I like in books, and it also has a dark curse.

Rather than Karzan’s parents dying in the Jungle as missionaries leaving him as a baby to be raised by jungle animals. In this retelling, Karzan’s father’s people are shifters and the shifters are at war with the humans who are his Mother’s people. The King (Karzan’s Father) gets a prophecy from the Gods on what will end the war and bring peace. It is told to him that they are not better than humans because they can shift into beasts. He is to go find his mate who is a human and their child will bring about peace along with a chosen one.

However, the King’s evil brother will never believe that they are not better than humans and overthrows and kills the King. Though the Queen gets away and raises Karzan in her old village with humans, while the Gods put a curse on the Island for many years it remains in darkness and the beasts cannot shift from their human forms. Some of them start going crazy.

I was very surprised when Janey and Karzan dreamed about each other at the beginning that his beast was a wolf. I figured he would be a gorilla since Tarzan has always been known for being raised by Gorillas. I was a bit disappointed at first. But it gets explained later in the story and I liked the way it is explained. I hope that does count as a spoiler. Overall I really enjoyed the book and will definitely read more of the sinister fairy tale collection and more by M. R. Leahy.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Legend was such an interesting and unique twist on one of my favorite stories, Tarzan. Jealousy and evil drove brother against brother, invoking a curse upon everyone in the jungle. Hatred of people who were different led to centuries of needless war. Centuries of unnecessary death. The bad guy sat on the throne, ruling with an iron fist, feeding the hatred and wickedness, determined to break the curse and continue his reign. But the prophecy could not be denied and so when the chosen one finally arrives and finds her way to the rightful king, nothing, not even the blind ambitions of the false king, could stop fate. The gods had spoken and it shall be done!

I'm always up for a retelling and from my first read ever of M.R. Leahy, she definitely found a new fan in me with this story. I would have loved more relationship development between Karzan and Janey. Much of their story was lead up and it took a while for them to even meet. Once together, it was either hot sex or rescuing her from the bad guys. Not a lot of time for them to get to know one another. But I guess small talk isn't really necessary when you've been dreaming about each other for so long. With underlying themes full of horror, immorality and ignorance, Legend is an easy book recommendation to make.

So this a short tale in the sinister fairy tales collection.
This one is influenced by The Tarzan and Jane Legend and while it didn't wow me I certainly enjoyed it.
The writing itself is good but I just never fully connected on any deeper level.
So this story is set in the jungle and it's all about a cursed island full of shapeshifters and humans who live in the trees. a prophecy, fated mates and a chosen one.
It's short and sweet and lacks depth but it was still somewhat interesting with some hot and heavy
scenes.
We have a half shifter/human Prince Karzan the son of the former king and his human mate.
He has been hidden away all his life among the humans to protect him from his crazed uncle the king.
Janey is the chosen one destined to break the curse and unlock his beast.
This is insta-love and insta-lust and the finale easily arrived it.
I also felt I never really got a real sense of Karzan and Janey beyond the superficial.
This was an easy quick read that didn't tax me and my first Tarzan retelling.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Legend.

This is a short story in the sinister fairy tales collection. A dark retelling on Tarzan and Jane story with a clever spin. Entertaining with lots of action and adventure it's a quick read, so there is no fluff and stuff in between moments. In saying that though, because it's so short, I felt it in lacked in depth, the connection with the characters were not as strong.
Karzan and Janey have an instant love/lust connection giving us some hot scenes so you won't be disappointed in the mattress department. Shapeshifting, old prophesy’s and destiny’s unfold in this fast paced dark romance.
A good quick read if you are after something not too deep but still entertaining.
I give this 3.5 Stars

A twisted fairy tale retelling of Tarzan and Jane.

When beasts and humans started havoc among themselves God brought a solution to the King of Beasts, King Klayton to find a mate thus shall unite the beasts and humans. When the King finds his mate, his Queen, a human Kala many were against this choice. The kings brother Kircheck being one of them. Klayton stripped Kricheck of his titles and Kircheck, angry for this he acted on it,

“They want us to bow down to the humans. They want us to share our wealth, our knowledge. This newborn prince is an abomination; a threat. The king has been bewitched by his queen and is not fit to rule us any longer. Stand with me, and we will conquer the humans once and for all. Peace will be given when we take it by force. Fear will propel them to bow to us. Follow me, and we will destroy this prophecy!”

Thus true rebellion was born. Kircheck gathered many of his followers killed his brother and set to kill his brother's mate and their son - Kala and Karzan, who already ran away on Klayton's orders. The prophecy then told,

"Hidden throughout time, you will cease to exist, until the chosen one appears with our God-given gift. When the marks unite, the prince shall change, and the one true king will take his name.”

The story was sweet to compete sinister. The jungle setting with shapeshifters, history, betrayal was a wonderful way of playing Legend. Janey finds her way to Karzan, each of them having a mark on their hand. When the marks on their hands unite the curse will break. It was really heartbreaking to see the end of Klayton and Kala but the author gave them a satisfying "eternity together". This book is a quick read and was entertaining.

A bit (lot?) of a "me not you" situation because technically there wasn't anything wrong with the technical writing, plot or pace, but this just didn't engage me emotionally. It's quite a short read and felt more Lion King than Sinister Fairy Tale but it's still a decent read and well worth trying for yourself.

It took too long, in my opinion, for the H and h to meet and I know they are fated mates and I know they had dreamed of one another BUT there was no attempt to develop any other type of connection between them. It was all just very instant (as in next second instant) and I'm just one of those PITA readers who needs convincing of a bond.

The story was nicely written and easy to follow, the world building was decent, though I didn't care for the overuse of the F word - it didn't fit the low technology setting. I expect the word in Mafia, MC and even contemporary romance but it felt jarring here. However it's a fairly minor thing and I'm sure many of you would disagree on that 😊.

Whilst it isn't a dark read, it is steaming hot (when Karzan and Janey do eventually meet) and entertaining.

WOW. this is part of the 2019 Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, and i CAN'T wait to devour them all.
'Legend' is the retelling of Tarzan & Jane, but in this book they're Karzan & Janey. i'm hooked from the prologue but i think that they might have given away too much since the prologue is rather long!
Janey had a recurring dream.. of a wolf, until a few weeks before her 18th birthday, the dream changes. As for Karzan, he's waited a long time for his mate, his queen. When they finally met each other, that's where the real adventure begins.
overall, i felt that it's not as dark but by no means is your children's fairy tale, and my only complaint would be that its a little too short ;(
i finished this within a night and honestly, i felt like i'm in 'that' island too lol

"When the time is right, he will not just be the King of the Beasts... He will be the King of the Jungle."
Karzan is indeed the King of the Jungle! 4 stars!

This fairytale retelling/reimaging was everything I could have imagined. Karzan is the hidden prince and true king of the jungle, but he doesn't know this until the chosen one comes of age. Janey has taught all her life that she was special and destined to do great things. This play on the Tarzan and Jane story kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. I loved this experience and looked forward to reading more books from this author.

It lacked depth and character development which caused me to feel disconnected and dissatisfied with the story. It had the potential to be great but it was too short to fulfill that potential.

Legend is just one of the many books in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection. Each book is based on a childhood fairy tale we loved and adored, only these ones are a little darker and a little dirtier.

Before I dive into a novel in this collection, I like to guess which fairy tale is going to be retold. From the title, I honestly thought it was going to be the lion king. And if truth be told, there were a few references while reading which had me leaning more towards the lion king. But because one of the main characters is Karzan, It's safe to say my assumption was wrong.

I really enjoyed the way M.R. Leahy spun this story. I loved the dynamic between two kings fighting for the top spot and then centuries later the reigning prince, and rightful heir, finally finds the power within himself to protect his future land and his people. My only issue, I wanted more depth and I needed more chemistry between the characters. This novel was so unbelievably short, and even though i liked the premise, I was left feeling unsatisfied. I wanted more substance and that is why I decided to rate Legend with a 3 star rating.

Overall, Even though this novel was just okay for me, I still plan on checking out M.R. Leahy's past work. Let's just say, I'm intrigued.

Another Sinister Fairy Tale and another interesting addition to this collection.

I have to say I was not expecting Jane and Tarzan's story so I was certainly taken by surprise with this one. It was definitely re-imagined from the cartoon my kids watched. On an island hidden away by a curse, Karzan, is about to find out that he is more than he was led to believe he was. Having no idea that he is part of the legend it is time that he "wakes" up to who he really is.

Janey, a girl who had long been fascinated with the legend of this hidden island and the future king finds out that her whole life has been leading up to this prophecy that she had only heard about in bedtime stories.

Like I said this was really an interesting take on the story. The evil of the jungle, a long lost prophecy, cursed beasts and man. This story was short but certainly packed a punch. It was also my first book by this author and won't be my last. I liked how there was little downtime and the story really moves and holds you. I do wish it had been a bit longer though because I felt like I wanted more.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝟒/𝟓 𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓡𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰: Legend by M.R. Leahy is book number seven in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection! If you haven’t already guessed it, Legend is a dark retelling of Tarzan! But this time around we have Karzan and Janey. M.R. Leahy is a new to me author and since I’ve stopped reading the blurbs until AFTER I’ve read the book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going in. Told in multiple POV’s, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Legend.

The humans and beasts have waged war against one another for years, and after the tragic killing of the King of the beasts, King Clayton, the Gods have had enough and curse Isula Sacra and all its inhabitants…
❝Tʜʀᴏᴜɢʜ ᴅᴀʀᴋɴᴇss ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴇʀᴇ ʙᴏʀɴ, ɴᴏᴡ ᴅᴀʀᴋɴᴇss ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ ʟɪᴠᴇ. Bᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴏᴡᴇʀs, ɴᴏ ʟᴏɴɢᴇʀ ᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ sʜɪғᴛ. But before King Klayton was killed, his human Queen gave birth to a son, Karzan.

Over in a small country named Upryae is a young girl named Janey Porter. For years she’s had the same dream, over, and over, and over again.

In her dream is a wolf. A beautiful wolf.

But unlike you would think, Janey, isn’t scared. Instead, she feels like she NEEDS this wolf.

But her dream always ends with the death of both her and her beautiful wolf. Every single time.
❝Wᴏʀʟᴅs ᴀᴘᴀʀᴛ, ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ᴏɴʟʏ ɪɴ ᴏᴜʀ sʟᴇᴇᴘ, sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ɪɴ ᴍᴇ ᴋɴᴇᴡ ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ᴀʟᴡᴀʏs ᴍᴇᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ.❞
Until a few weeks before her eighteenth birthday when the dream suddenly changes. Janey’s father has always told her legends about a cursed island and after she tells him about her strange new dream… he makes her dreams come true.
❝Wᴇ’ᴠᴇ ᴀʟᴡᴀʏs ᴋɴᴏᴡɴ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴊᴏᴜʀɴᴇʏ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ᴀ ᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴏғ ʟᴇɢᴇɴᴅs.❞
Together, can Karzan and Janey lift the curse of Isula Sacra?

Now, although I did really enjoy reading Legend, I must admit that it wasn’t actually a “dark” read. Or not anything I would consider dark anyways. But, I found that I didn’t even care. I was into the story and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. This one was a very quick read but it was a good read with a wonderful, unique, storyline.

If you like fantasy or PNR, I think you would enjoy Legend.

💙 (𝓗) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸: I really liked Karzan. He was strong, devoted to his people, and devoted to his path.

❤️ (𝓱) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸𝓲𝓷𝓮: Janey was a great character. She was fearless in the face of adversity and stood by her mate through it all, giving him the extra strength he needed to complete his task.

🔥🔥🔥 𝟑/𝟓 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓶 𝓕𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓸𝓻: Karzan is half man… half beast and he’s waited a long time to find his mate. Need I say more?? Although it takes years for the two to actually meet besides in their dreams, once Janey finds her way to The Island of the Accursed it takes no time at all for these fated mates to fall in love. There aren’t many steamy scenes, but the ones we do have are sizzling!

🌪 𝟏/𝟓 𝓒𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓯𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓻 𝓦𝓪𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰: Nope, no cliffhanger. Karzan and Janey have a happily ever after and the sweetest epilogue wraps up their story. I’ve never read a Tarzan retelling before and I’m absolutely in love with it. Leahy did such an amazing job with it. It’s short and a bit instaloveish but it was still amazing. I loved the legend building around it and the way the characters were written. I connected with them almost immediately. It was steamy and entertaining. I couldn’t put it down. I loved it

Legend by M.R. Leahy is part of the Sinister Fairy Tales Series.
Karzan lives on the island of Insula Sacra where he has been kept in the dark of this true self. Janey doesn't live on the island of Insula Sacra but has heard of it and wants to find it. Once she is there it seems the curse has been lifted and Karzan starts to know his true mate is near him but can he save her before it is to late?
Enjoyed this dark read.

Legend is a unique retelling of Tarzan and Jane that will captivate from the beginning.

A legend that was created through a prophecy. By fate two will be mated, the chosen one. The young prince who will rebuild after the destruction from his uncle.

Absolutely loved this retelling in The Sinister Fairy Tales Collection. Definitely a must read!!

It's me not you

It's not the Author's fault it's mine. This book is just too slow for me. I am at 50% and Karzan and Janet haven't even met. So for me that is too slow and It isn't keeping my interest and the skimming starts. When that happens well....

But take a chance and read yourself most will love it!

I think the best place to start this review is to say that I have never actually read the original Fairy Tales. I know the Disney versions well. If you have read any of the other books in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection you will already know that these are absolutely nothing like the Disney versions of these tales. So once I finish this collection, I think it's time to read the original Fairy Tales.

This is story is a little harder to guess from it's title. This is a retelling of Tarzan, with a paranormal twist. Karzan has lived on a dark island for his entire life. Having a weird dream about a woman he has never met. Janey has lived her life in the outside world. She has heard all about an island with a curse on it and a prophecy to release their curse. She to has had a weird dream about, of all things, a wolf. Janey's father gives her everything he has for her 18th birthday in the form of a ship so she can go look for this island.

Karzan is a strong alpha male character. With strong morals and the will to take care of his people. Janey, while a little bit annoying when it comes to the sexy scenes, is a woman with ambition and willingness to put aside her fear for the good of Karzan's people. This book was a quick and enjoyable read.

Janey's heard the legends and she's about to find out if they're true or not when she meets Karzan. Karzan's home has been cursed and it's up to him and his mate to lift that curse.

I've been loving this series of dark retelling of famous fairy tales. This time around it's Tarzan and Jane. This is a whole different world than Tarzan's jungle, though. It's filled with shifters and curses and dark deeds and betrayal. While I can't say it is my favorite of the Sinister Fairy Tales series, it's still entertaining and sexy. Janey and Karzan have chemistry to spare, and their world is lots of fun to read.

“I’m not sure how to even start explaining the greatness of this book. I never in my twenty something old years thought I would read a retelling of Tarzan neither the darkness and twistness of it but here I am after finishing it with a feeling of joy and lostness. Before this book I didn’t knew Megan R. Leahy and after finishing this one I cannot wait to dig into her other stories.

Legend, I wasn’t even sure what to expect about this retelling! It was dark, twisted and full of the power when finding your soulmate. Not gonna lie, some parts where hard to read, right before finishing the prologue I was already crying with my heart broken.

A story about sacrifice, destiny and love. A whole new story of the “King of the Jungle” a.k.a Karzan. Geez, I really suffered for him, my heart ached through out his journey, a man destined to rise to power and free the kingdom of the curse. Handsome and hot, yes! Absolutely! Karzan was so much more, I’m gonna let you fall in love with him without spoilers. What’s a King without his Queen? For the men and beasts of Insula Sacra, she was hope… Janey. I can only praise this character. She was so fierce and strong!

Karzan and Janey, two characters that now have a special place in my heart. Loving them was so easy! I connected with them in such a special way that I cannot go without mentioning their connection! They had a very unique and so special bond that before they even met destiny knew they belong to each other. Mates.

Love, passion, darkness, war and a prophesy that made this story an other incredible addition to the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, don’t judge this book without giving it a try, trust me!

So well written, interesting, captivating and so addictive. I put it down until I finished it. Like I said I never though I would read a retelling of Tarzan and I’m so glad this story came into my life. Congratulations Megan for writing such an incredible book!”

Yet another brilliant story from the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection .
This one is called Legend , and it’s by Megan R. Leahy.
Forget about all of the Tarzan films that have been made over the years , and you can definitely forget Disney’s Tarzan . This is the new & improved ‘ Karzan , King of the Jungle’.
This story gave me goosebumps, it also gave me a full body shiver once or twice .
While I was reading it , it was like the book was playing in full technicolour right in front of my eyes .
I absolutely love this story and Karzan and Janey’s primal, fated love .
A must read .

Karzan has lived in darkness for all of his life , not only literally, but figuratively too.
He knows he is different from the humans around him . He has always had dreams of a girl, as he gets older the dreams become clearer, and the girl becomes older.
When his mother tells him who he really is , only then does he know what he has to do , find his mate , the one . Only together can they rid his island from the darkness .

Janey has been told stories , by her Papa, of a secret island , full of humans and beasts , since she was a little girl .
The dreams she has had since she was little become stronger as she starts to reach her 18 year. The dreams of her man, her beast.
She is told by her father that she is ‘ the one ‘ , and she must search for her destiny, her mate , her beast .

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Far, far away, hidden on Insula Sacra--Island of the Accused--lives a forgotten world of man and beast. Damed by the Gods, and forced to live in everlasting darkness, they continue to fight a war that has long since been burned in time. With each rise and fall of the cursed moon, they are reminded all they've lost. Desperate for freedom, they await the night the one true kind will rise to power and free them of the curse. The King, however, cannot rise without his Queen-both blessed with the mark of the Gods, they must end the war to save them all. Or so the legend says.

Legend is another book in the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection. This one just might be one of my favorites. This is a retelling of Tarzan. Don't judge though before you read if you are not a Tarzan fan. M.R. Leahy and her telling of this story will certainly change your mind. I loved it. I devoured it. And I can not wait for the next one in this series. I am loving all of these retelling stories from all these amazing authors.

Legend was an Amazing read! It’s part of the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection, it’s a dark retelling of Tarzan and it’s freakin Awesome! Short and to the point, this book doesn’t play around! There’s no easing you into anything or Bogging you down with detail. Everything is flawlessly written and flows so well, I was intrigued and captivated! It starts off by grabbing your attention and you're done for! The prologue had me! I was a goner! I loved the small bit of prophecy and history, it’s exciting! There was never any dull or lag, the story is so intense I just swallowed it whole! I loved it so hard! It was sexy and hot, the powerful connection the characters had was tingling! I was also surprised because I wasn’t expecting that emotional hit at the end, I actually choked back some tears! I'm extremely happy with this retelling it’s easily one of my favorites! It’s not a long story but it doesn’t need to be, it’s flawless! This was my first book by Leahy and she really enchanted me! This is definitely one retelling you don’t want to miss! I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Another great retelling of a fairy tale, but this one is not for children.

This story is of a dark time in the world that can only be repaired by the mating of two beings from different lives. The outcome could be disastrous, but by the whispers of the Gods it could also be the only way to save those effected. The only problem is that it will take years for the effects to happen and for safety and peace to be restored.

Karzan and Janey are destined to be together, but they have to overcome the distance between them as well as the dangers surrounding the island that Karzan lives on. He is unaware of his heritage, but he is slowly learning of his destiny and who he is to become.

I really liked this story. Ms. Leahy has done a great job with this story. It was dark, twisted, tragic and a great story of bringing two worlds together. If you like fairy tales and dark twisted stories, you’ll love Legend. I give this story a 5-star review. I whole heartedly recommend all of the Sinister Fairy Tale stories. They are twisted and depraved, and great reads.

If you are a fan of the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection (or just Fairy Tale Retellings) then you should definitely check out Legend. Tarzan is one of my favorite Disney movies and MR Leahy did a great way of tying in that story and creating a COMPLETELY different world but still gives you recollection of our favorite characters from the movie.

Legend is pretty short, but it is because it does not need fluff. It is straight to the point and walks you through a path to that is not just a romance, but LEGENDARY. All in all, this book is definitely a 4 star read in my book and recommend it to anyone that likes fairy tale retelling and Tarzan will 100% enjoy this book that can also be a bit dirty! ;)

PS: Thank you to MR Leahy and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

A genius twist on the Tarzan tale, Legend provoked vivid imagery in my mind and proved to be a gritty, gripping read.

Paranormal lovers will be delighted and I believe this story will appeal to those who normally don’t read this genre, due to the main characters being so identifiable. Many will know the tale of Tarzan, but I loved this take on it. Shifters vs humans and the gods being in control of destiny, provided many wow moments and the chemistry positively sizzled between Karzan and Janie, when they finally met. Fast paced, this story had me glued to my kindle and I finished it one sitting.

Legend is another fabulous addition to the Sinister Fairytales Collection which is proving to be an outstanding collection of stories.

This wasn’t bad, but it’s NOT A ROMANCE, NOT A ROMANCE, NOT A ROMANCE.... which was disappointing because otherwise it would have received a higher rating. I’ve never read this author so I will be more careful in attempting to read more books from them in the future, as I have certain expectations for how I want my books to end when I’m led to believe that they are a romance.

“Do you believe in the story, Papa?”
“It’s a legend, Janey. And legends always ring with truth.”

The remaigining of Tarzan with a little bit touch of Lion King only in the beginning. And the plot centers in Fated mates and I'm so here for it!

I’ve always been his. Worlds apart, connected only in our sleep, something in me knew it was always meant to be.

Another great fairytale retelling in the collections. So recommended!
